Re: [Bug 359975] Re: evince sometimes yield error Error printing: Too many failed attempts

2011-10-11 Thread Francesco Potortì
I guess this has been fixed long ago.

Not really long ago, but it is not a serious problem any more.

By chance, I had this error just yesterday, after months of not seeing
it, while printing almost simultaneously from two different evince
instances.

Re: [Bug 359975] Re: evince sometimes yield error Error printing: Too many failed attempts (Printing requires keeping the mouse moving in the window of the app)

2011-10-11 Thread Francesco Potortì
Francesco, if you have still such a problem and are able to reproduce
it, please report a new bug, telling which version of Ubuntu you are
using and assign it to GTK+2.0 if you are using Natty or older or to
GTK+3.0 if you are using Oneiric.

Thank you. Should it happen again, and should I be able to reproduce
it, I will.

Re: [Bug 359975] Re: evince sometimes yield error Error printing: Too many failed attempts

2009-10-16 Thread Galileon Galilei
Happily using Mac OS X for printing, so I'm not bothered with Evince
anymore. But thanks anyway to those who have been trying to fix it, and
sorry about that to those who have been trying to use it.

2009/10/16 Peter Gervai g...@grin.hu

I do not ubuntu :-) so maybe my comments aren't welcome, but since I'm
following the life of this bug here as well as on gnome bugzilla I've
 observed the latest comments...

I think this bug is important for evince usage (not grave though), but
 fixing it isn't easy.

OTOH suggested workaround (lpr) isn't really good unless you conjure up
how to set _all_ the printing options, which is (as far as I remember)
not really possible. Printing without these is crappy at best, if not
outright useless, considering the wide range of pdf material available,
which may require different resolution, color mode, and optimalisations
to set. I don't think it would be a good workaround, not to mention
 solution.

And I happen to be Hungarian, far from native EN speaker. :-)

Another suggestion is to remove Evince from the default Ubuntu
installation and put another PDF viewer.

Wouldn't that be a shame?

Are you kidding? Ubuntu developers and I suppose Linux developers in
general apparently don't really care about these little bugs that turn
out to be huge usability stumbling blocks, just like they'd rather stick
to a cumbersome form of software management that really only works well
if you follow the exact guidelines set out for you rather than wanting
to doing something like, oh, I don't know, updating to the latest
version of a program before the next distribution is released.

Nobody is stopping you from updating to the latest version of a program
before the next distribution is released. You can always build from the
source on your own. You can also run the latest distribution before it
is released. But it's not always a simple crap to do that, because
there can be a bunch of dependency changes, which might affect other
parts of the system. This is why we have releases, where everything is
hopefully in a somewhat stable state.

Try running Gentoo if you want to be able to upgrade to the latest
packages with little regard to how it affects the rest of the system.
It's a lot of work to get everything working together. This is the work
that the Ubuntu developers are doing.

Face it, Windows and Mac may be broken in a variety of ways, but simple
crap like this that prevents people from getting their work done, or
makes them have to work harder to get their work done, would just never
 fly.

If you are better served by Windows or Mac, then why are you messing
around with Ubuntu? Just use what's best for you.

 Try changing it to:
 AuthInfoRequired none

I don't have a printers.conf file, but none of the files in /etc/cups
contain the string AuthInfoRequired, and I still experienced this bug.
