[Bug 64264] Re: Editing the menu doesn't update correctly after changes

2006-10-20 Thread Pete Ryland
And here is another patch, which fixes the handling of .desktop files
with a space in their name (amongst other uri-encodable characters).
The problem was that gnomvfs converts spaces to %20 encoding. I've
fixed this by using gnomevfs's helper functions to do the encoding and
decoding.

[Bug 67077] After one sync, connections to a Tungsten T3 device fails

2006-10-20 Thread JoelParke
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-pilot

After one sync, connections to a Tungsten T3 device fails.
If you kill the gpilotd process, one can once again press the sync button on

It appears that the close of the first sync does not clean up completely?

"We ignore movements less than 50 pixels. So, I don't understand why walking by

itself and not the screensaver window then that's another story. Currently,
DPMS policy is handled within the X Server. I don't know of any way to tell it

[Bug 67077] Re: After one sync, connections to a Tungsten T3 device fails

2006-10-20 Thread Daniel Holbach
Thanks for the bug report. Can you try this:
   1. Kill gpilotd (you may need to remove the pilot applet from the panel, and
then do killall gpilotd from a terminal window).
   2. Now try running pilot-xfer: pilot-xfer -p /dev/pilot -l (or '-p
/dev/ttyUSB0', or '-p /dev/ttyUSB1', or '-p net:', etc)
   3. If that doesn't work, then you have most likely got a problem with your
kernel/udev/usb/cables, etc, not gnome-pilot.

It can also be useful to see the output from the gpilotd daemon. To do this:
   1. Kill gpilotd (you may need to remove the pilot applet from the panel, and
then do killall gpilotd from a terminal window).
   2. Restart gpilotd.

yes, but not the old original version. therefore the suggestion in the

[Bug 67099] blank message window when viewing a read msg from unread list

2006-10-20 Thread John Leach
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:

select "Unread messages" in the "Show" combo box.

mark an unread messages as read. (it should stay in the list)

Double click on it to open a message view. The message view window is
blank.

It has the menu bar, and the tool bar, but the message area is just
white.

Actually, if you watch closely enough, the message view appears then
disappears quickly.

[Bug 66995] Re: Keyrepeat in fresh install

2006-10-20 Thread Colin Watson
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 66929 ***

I'm not entirely convinced that this is a duplicate of bug 66929. That
bug occurs because console-setup puts X's tty into Unicode when X was
expecting it to be in raw mode; the symptoms of that do involve key
repeat, but it's generally not on the symbol you thought you pressed.

I'm not saying categorically that this is a different bug, but I think
Matías should verify it independently after I upload the fix (sometime
today).

[Bug 38181] Re: Screensaver freezes on Dapper (ATI Radeon 8500 LE)

2006-10-20 Thread Pascal S. de Kloe
Edgy became a release candidate and this bug is still wide open!

The only way to get rid of those freezes is to comment out Load "dri" in
xorg.conf. Maybe this should be the default for all modern ATI cards as
a workaround?

Also, why does this bug not show up at

[Bug 67134] Menu item change from "Édition" to "Éditer" depending on focus

2006-10-20 Thread Sylvain Defresne
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

The second menu item ("Edit" in the english locale) of the mail compose
windows alternate between "Édition" and "Éditer" depending on the focus.
If the focus is on the "Subject:" widget, it reads "Édition", otherwise
it reads "Éditer".

I think this is a problem in the localisation to french since they are
both valid translation for "Edit", depending on the context (first one
is the translation of the noun, second one of the verb).

[Bug 66175] Usage problems in install partitioner

2006-10-20 Thread Frank Murphy
Public bug reported:

Two things that bugged me when doing the Edgy Eft install. One is that
when trying to create a new partition from my existing Dapper partition,
the installer insisted on calling the to-be-created partition Partition
#1 even though there was already a partition 1 (and 2 and 3 and 5) on
the disk. I was nervous that it was going to overwrite my real hda1.
This #x should be the number of the hdaX that is going to be added to
the partition table.

The second thing is that before committing to the install, I went back
to the partition page, and a gparted window popped up, then disappeared.
Weird, but cosmetic. Not great to have cosmetic problems in the tool
thats touching partitions.

what the new partition number is going to be. We may be able to do

[Bug 67151] Edgy RC Installation Problem

2006-10-20 Thread Bob Rossana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gparted

I tried a fresh install of the Edgy RC using the desktop live cd. When
I get to setting up the partitions, I chose to manually edit the
partition table. I chose the second sata hard drive (sdb), I chose sdb1
for/, sdb6 for /var, sdb7 for /usr/local/, sdb8 for /home, and sdb5 for
/swap. I set it to reformat /, /swap, and /var. The installer then
tells me that I have not chosen a location to install the root file
system, even though I have selected sdb1 for /. This happens repeatedly

[Bug 65509] Re: deskbar-applet -- file:/// urls opened in firefox instead of gnome-default-browser

2006-10-20 Thread Chris Lee
I realized why this happens now. When the html file is local, the local
mime properties determines which application opens the file. So if
select an .html file in nautilus, select preferences->Open_with, then
select epiphany, then fie:/// urls are then opened by epiphany.

This make sense -- it seems deskbar is doing the right thing using mime
to select the application to open for a local file. Maybe setting a
particular browser as the 'prefered application' should update the mime
entry for html files?

specification. The underlying problem is that there is no clean way
that meets the specification to override the NoDisplay attribute of the
.desktop file without copying the whole file to the user's applications
directory. Matthias's suggestion would be to have arbitrary parts of
the system (like the panel, or any other menu consumer for that matter)
to change the .desktop files in the user's overrides, which IMHO is
simply not appropriate. Consider the use case that the user has
manually copied .desktop files from the system ones to ensure they don't
get updated with the system's ones. There is no way according to the
specification to determine that.

In other words, we can't automatically change something the user may
have set manually.

I would suggest one of the following solutions:

1. add in an attribute to the Filename tag of the .menu file format to
allow overriding of attributes in the .desktop file. That way, the
.desktop file can stay in the system directory, with any overrides
(like, the "NoDisplay" config) existing in the user's .menu file.

Something like this:

Accessories

nautilus.desktop

2. add in an element to the .desktop specification which allows inheriting from
the system one, like this:

[Desktop Entry]
Inherit=true
NoDisplay=false

This has similar benefits.

Both of these solutions, however, will take a change to the freedesktop
specification.

[Bug 62064] Re: Cancel button icons are not themed

2006-10-20 Thread Mika Fischer
I really can't believe this is still unfixed. Do you really want to
release edgy with that ugly cancel icon that can be seen all over the
place and will certainly put off many users?
