[Bug 25931] Re: Failed to initalize HAL.
deuce, if 'dbus start' fails that way, then it is already running. The easiest workaround is to just wait for some seconds at the login screen before logging in. The correct way is to rename /etc/rc2.d/S20dbus to /etc/rc2.d/S12dbus (this was recently done in Feisty). If it does not even log in, please get .xsession-errors from your home directory and attach it here (you can log in on a text console after pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1). -- Failed to initalize HAL. https://launchpad.net/bugs/25931 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 41871] Re: volume slider should not use PCM but software mixer or master volume
Also kmplayer uses PCM, and I had trouble with it (embedded in Konqueror) altering PCM volume without my consent. I would appreciate it if someone checked this and marked this issue confirmed also for 'kmplayer', as it wouldn't be proper for me to do it myself. It seems to me that the key to usability with colum control is _consistent_ behaviour across different applications and throughout the system. So, whatever the solution, it should not cause the kind of conflicts with different applications' volume sliders as reported here. (As an aside: Since a number of applications (I use mplayer) use and alter PCM volume, I've decided to partially circumvent the problem by making also the volume applet in my panel directly alter PCM volume instead of main. I find myself sometimes having to call up the mixer and change both of them, though.) -- volume slider should not use PCM but software mixer or master volume https://launchpad.net/bugs/41871 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 81608] Re: Please use DejaVu Sans Condensed as the default font
I personally don't like DejaVu Sans Condensed as the default font in OpenOffice, because it's different and does not match the rest of the Ubuntu desktop. If everything else in Ubuntu uses DejaVu Sans, then why should OpenOffice.org default to DejaVu Sans Condensed. In my opinion, this makes the menu fonts in OpenOffice look too thin, and out of place, like it doesn't blend in well enough with the rest of the Ubuntu desktop. I have unticked use system font, and added a font subsitution from DejaVu Sans Condensed to DejaVu Sans in OpenOffice in Feisty, and personally think it looks much better like that. No, I had not installed libgadu3. I wonder why it wasnt installed? I'd say this is a missing dependency bug, because gaim does look really odd in the account configuration dialogue if you have an old configured gadu account and no libgadu. And there is no apparent hint of any kind to the user that he needs to manually install extra libs to get the full functionality that is promised in the gaim package description. -- 2.0 beta6: various problems because oscar-icq https://launchpad.net/bugs/88647 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
