[Bug 25931] Re: Failed to initalize HAL.

2007-03-12 Thread Martin Pitt
deuce, if 'dbus start' fails that way, then it is already running. The
easiest workaround is to just wait for some seconds at the login screen
before logging in. The correct way is to rename /etc/rc2.d/S20dbus to
/etc/rc2.d/S12dbus (this was recently done in Feisty).

If it does not even log in, please get .xsession-errors from your home
directory and attach it here (you can log in on a text console after
pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1).

[Bug 91515] Re: ctrl-z makes Nautilus exit

2007-03-12 Thread Nicolas_Raoul
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: nautilus

  On an up-to-date Feisty
Always reproducible, here are the steps:

  1) Open nautilus,
  2) Type ctrl-z,
  3) nautilus closes immediately.

  gdb says Program exited normally.
Valgrind (as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind) says nothing.
When running it from a terminal, echo $? says 0.
So I can't give much logs, I hope you guys can reproduce it at home.
-
- In case this is a feature, I think it is not a good idea, CTRL-Z is
- usually to cancel file operations, just like in Gedit, Konqueror or
- earlier Nautilus.
-
- ---
- Here are some other steps that I have been thinking are the source of the
problem, but after all it seems to be unrelated, keeping it just in case, but
it is probably useless:
- 1) Open nautilus,
- 2) Select a file with your mouse,
- 3) Type ctrl-c to copy it,
- 4) Type ctrl-v to paste it,
- 5) Type ctrl-z to cancel,
- 6) nautilus closes immediately.

[Bug 89723] Re: PDA with memory card doesn't mount automatically

2007-03-12 Thread Martin Pitt
hal does not know anything about this drive:

  volume.label = ''  (string)
  volume.uuid = ''  (string)
  volume.fsversion = ''  (string)
  volume.fsusage = ''  (string)
  volume.fstype = ''  (string)
  storage.model = ''  (string)

Can you actually mount it manually? I. e. does

  sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt

work and give you the files in /mnt? (unmount it with 'sudo umount
/mnt').

If it fails, what is the output? What does 'sudo blkid' say?

Hy,
 I have a desktop problem.I have 5 partitions :1x ntfs(hda1) 1x swap(hda2) 1x

should be hda5 has an ugly name , some random characters. All partition are

[Bug 91515] Layouts

2007-03-12 Thread Nicolas_Raoul
It is always reproduceable, even after reboot.
Sebastian, from your questions I guess that it does not happen on your side ?
So it must be some special configuration on my side.

I didn't change any shortcut key bindings.
I have SCIM to occasionaly type Japanese characters.
On Friday my friend come over and she added a Japanese keybord layout, which I
unchecked a bit after. So now my layout look like:

Generic 105-key (Intl) PC
France (checked)
Japan (unchecked)
Separate group for each window (checked)

I have to go to work, this evening I will reset my keyboard layouts and
let you know.

2007-03-12 Thread Daniel Holbach
--- Comment #2 from Ray Strode 2007-03-10 17:43 UTC ---
I'm not able to reproduce this locally, with the latest yelp trunk.

Can you attach the schema file that caused the problem? Can you run

export GCONF_CONFIG_SOURCE=$(gconftool-2 --get-default-source)

valgrind --tool=memcheck gconftool-2 --makefile-install-rule
/usr/share/gconf/schemas/yelp.schemas

and report the output?

[Bug 41871] Re: volume slider should not use PCM but software mixer or master volume

2007-03-12 Thread kko
Also kmplayer uses PCM, and I had trouble with it (embedded in
Konqueror) altering PCM volume without my consent. I would appreciate it
if someone checked this and marked this issue confirmed also for
'kmplayer', as it wouldn't be proper for me to do it myself.

It seems to me that the key to usability with colum control is
_consistent_ behaviour across different applications and throughout the
system. So, whatever the solution, it should not cause the kind of
conflicts with different applications' volume sliders as reported here.

(As an aside: Since a number of applications (I use mplayer) use and
alter PCM volume, I've decided to partially circumvent the problem by
making also the volume applet in my panel directly alter PCM volume
instead of main. I find myself sometimes having to call up the mixer
and change both of them, though.)

[Bug 81608] Re: Please use DejaVu Sans Condensed as the default font

2007-03-12 Thread Robvdl
I personally don't like DejaVu Sans Condensed as the default font in
OpenOffice, because it's different and does not match the rest of the
Ubuntu desktop.

If everything else in Ubuntu uses DejaVu Sans, then why should
OpenOffice.org default to DejaVu Sans Condensed.

In my opinion, this makes the menu fonts in OpenOffice look too thin,
and out of place, like it doesn't blend in well enough with the rest of
the Ubuntu desktop.

I have unticked use system font, and added a font subsitution from
DejaVu Sans Condensed to DejaVu Sans in OpenOffice in Feisty, and
personally think it looks much better like that.

Just my thoughts on this anyway.

[Bug 65028] doesn't dim screen on SONY VAIO (vgn FS215M / Z1 RMP) (regression)

2007-03-12 Thread Paolo Borelli
Public bug reported:

This used to work well in the past, but on edgy it doesn't work anymore.

I failed to notice before because I usually prefer to keep 100% of the
brightness also when running on battery.

(May be a HAL issue, not sure)

1) From gnome-power-prefs, set brigthness on battery to 50%
2) detach power cord

expected:
  screen is dimmed

result:
  nothing happens

I digget in it a tiny bit and the proper script
/usr/share/hal/scripts/hal-system-lcd-set-brightness gets called.

I made the script do the following:

echo $HAL_PROP_LAPTOP_PANEL_ACCESS_METHOD /home/paolo/acpihasrun
echo $HAL_PROP_LAPTOP_PANEL_NUM_LEVELS /home/paolo/acpihasrun
echo $HAL_PROP_LINUX_ACPI_PATH /home/paolo/acpihasrun

 ...

# read value for set brightness
read value

echo ${value} /home/paolo/acpihasrun

and the result is:

sony

which looks rather weird and leads to no effects

[Bug 91637] Evolution displays wrong time after new dst

2007-03-12 Thread Eugene Cormier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I'm in the timezone atlantic/halifax and I've updated my timezone info
so that my system is working properly, but for some reason Evolution is
reporting the time one hour early.Evolution must have it's own time
zone info (I think I read somewhere that it was a package libical but
I couldn't seem to find that in edgy)

I assume this evolution timezone file should be updated (I'll keep
searching for it in the mean time)

I can confirm this behaviour on an up to date feisty. Additionally, it
only happens when you launch gimp from a terminal or the run

launches gimp-remote-2.2 %U and not just gimp:

2007-03-12 Thread Sebastien Bacher
This upload fixes the bug:

 gdm (2.18.0-0ubuntu1) feisty; urgency=low

 - Fix gdmchooser so the Cancel button works. (Ubuntu: #87026)
 - Fix desktop files so they include GNOME and GTK
and remove Application. Fixes bug #417350.
Now gdmsetup uses the full path in Exec, not just TryExec, so that
if gdmsetup isn't in the user's PATH it will still work.
 - Update of ConsoleKit parameter names. Fixes enhancement request #415181.
 - Fix memory leaks.
 - Translation updates
   * debian/patches/04_menu_changes.patch:
 - updated, list all the .desktop changes there
   * debian/patches/07_ssh_desktop.patch
 debian/patches/09_desktop.patch,
 debian/patches/09_menu_change.patch:
 - dropped, changes are listed to 04_menu_changes now

[Bug 91645] Re: IPW3945 unable to restart after suspend

2007-03-12 Thread thesoothsayer
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: hal

When I put my laptop, an AsusA8Fm running Ubuntu 6.10
  (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/AsusA8Fm) into suspend mode
and wake it up, the wireless driver ipw3945 is not loaded and the
interface disappears from /sys/class/net/ (originally it's called eth1).

Attempts to manually reinsert the driver with 'modprobe ipw3945' gives
the following output in the kernel log:

  [17182894.244000] ipw3945: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945 Network Connection

Attempts to remove (modprobe -r ipw3945) and reinstall (modprobe
ipw3945) the module gives the same result as above.

[Bug 88647] Missing dependency bug (was: Re: 2.0 beta6: various problems because oscar-icq)

2007-03-12 Thread Fionn

No, I had not installed libgadu3. I wonder why it wasnt installed?

I'd say this is a missing dependency bug, because gaim does look really
odd in the account configuration dialogue if you have an old
configured gadu account and no libgadu. And there is no apparent hint of
any kind to the user that he needs to manually install extra libs to get
the full functionality that is promised in the gaim package description.
