[Bug 588155] Re: randomly gnome-settings-daemon fails to start

2011-05-27 Thread Dawid Ciężarkiewicz
I think I know what is the problem.

When logging in the gnome-setting-manager with gdm's pid is still
active. This makes users gnome-settings-manager fail to start. After
some time gdm's one finally exits and users is left with gray theme.

The following in:

[mutex:/etc/gdm]% cat /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default

killall gnome-settings-daemon 1/tmp/log.1 2/tmp/log.2
killall -9 gnome-settings-daemon 1/tmp/log.1 2/tmp/log.2

has fixed my problem.

[Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity

2011-05-27 Thread WernerKerzendorf
After upgrading to 11.04 some weeks ago the first bug was:

  The system did not boot
This obstacle was removed by booting with a distro-CD, ... , chroot,
grub-config, grub-install

second bug is:
after the computer is idle for some time (no inputs keyboard, mouse)
I cannot do any input with keyboard or mouse.
The first, but useless, attempt of a workaround was (Screensaver
Preferences)
disable Activate screensaver when computer is idle and
disable Lock screen when screensaver is active
  Also CTRL-ALT-F1 did not work.
I found no other method than to apply an annoying reboot.

Unfortunately I do not know how to get a good description of my system, so I
leave this Comment without it.
By the way: Any suggestions to ask the computer to display the configuration?

[Bug 767266] Re: Update Nautilus right click menus

2011-05-27 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
I am deeply disappointed that you're proposing to add a Take This File
And submenu without including a Shove It item.

Seriously, though, this design needs a lot of work. For example:

- The Preview item doesn't exist currently. What would it do,
specifically?

- Why are you adding a copy of the default Open action, Open With
Whatever (default), immediately below the original?

- How are the items in the Take This File And menu conceptually
different from the items at the top level? In other words, how would
someone be able to predict whether an item was in the Take This File
And submenu? It looks like it could have been called Miscellaneous.

- The Print item doesn't exist currently, and implementing it would be
a few months work -- introducing an API for applications to launch
directly to their Print dialog, then implementing and evangelizing that
API for popular applications. Why not do this as a standalone project?

- How would someone be able to tell whether the Share and Publish
items were related to Ubuntu One, Dropbox, or something else like
WebDAV?

- If you're renaming Make Link to Create Alias in the shortcut
menus, does that mean it should be renamed in the Edit menu too? (And
is alias noticably more understandable than link? Why not
shortcut?)

- Are the Resize Icon and Restore Icon's Original Size items
intentionally removed? If so, that's fine by me, but what would happen
to someone upgrading from a version of Ubuntu where they had resized
some of their desktop icons?

[Bug 377175] Re: Volume Up button locks screen

2011-05-27 Thread frazzmatazz
It seem to me the problem may be hard coding of XF86Screensaver key
(which is volume up key on the Macally Icekey keyboard) in Gnome-
screensaver.

The problem has gone away for me since I disabled gnome-screensaver (from
memory couldn't remove it due to dependencies)
chmod -x /usr/bin/gnome-screensaver
chmod -x /usr/bin/gnome-screensaver-command
chmod -x /usr/bin/gnome-screensaver-preferences
And continued using Xscreensaver.

I can currently reassign the Volume up key to Volume up function,
without triggering the screensaver now. :)

xev tell me this about the Volume Up on Macally Icekey:

KeyRelease event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x501,
root 0x106, subw 0x0, time 15780915, (484,231), root:(489,361),
state 0x0, keycode 160 (keysym 0x1008ff2d, XF86ScreenSaver), same_screen
YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes:

Please run following commands in terminal to clear package cache:

Thank you taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
However, processing the crash report to get detailed information for the
developers failed as the retracer did not generate a useful symbolic stack
trace.
Please try to obtain a backtrace manually following the instructions at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload the backtrace (as an
attachment) to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your

[Bug 767095] Re: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet when compiz is the windows manager

2011-05-27 Thread Helge
It seems the best workarounds so far is either:
a) Reverted to an older compiz as described in #116 (disables Unity).
b) Use the command killall -9 notification-area-applet and reload the
applet when prompted. Do it a couple of times and hopefully the icon will
appear.

Using compiz --replace does not seem to be any more effective than
workaround b) and it takes considerably more time.

I would really like to see this fixed in Ubuntu Classic as Unity is
quite useless as long as I get severe graphical glitches when minimizing
a window.

[Bug 531419] Re: gtk_file_chooser URI opening broken

2011-05-27 Thread Radim
Hello,
thanks for comment, I was afraid my report just faded away.
I've upgraded to Natty and made a little research on my own. The bug is still
there. I've tried three different programs:
gedit 2.30.4
evince 2.32.0
file-roller 2.32.2

All behave the same in regards to sftp access.
Consider I have a ssh account at sftp enabled server.

Case A:
There is no active connection to the server, as per gvfs-mount -l.
I start the program, choose File Open and type following into address bar:
sftp://server/home/user/file
then hit Open button. The open dialog box stays numb. Neither error dialog pops
up,
nor error message is printed to console.

Case B:
There is no active connection to the server, as per gvfs-mount -l.
I start the program with argument sftp://server/home/user/file like this:
gedit sftp://server/home/user/file
Program starts, pops up password dialog. When confirmed, it opens the requested
document.
Suddenly, server appears mounted as per gvfs-mount -l.

Case C:
Server is mounted as per gvfs-mount -l.
I start the program without any arguments. Go to File Open and enter again
the full URI
of my document. Open dialog still stays numb. However mount is present in the
left-side panel.
If I use mouse to open my document (click mount point and locate and select
it), it happens so.

I would expect, that entering URI would either open the document and handle
mount process for me, or display some
reasonable error/warning.

I hope this helps.

[Bug 767266] Re: Update Nautilus right click menus

2011-05-27 Thread John Lea
MPT, to answer your questions:

- 'Preview' would preview the file in Gloobus. If Gloobus or another
previewer is not used this item can be removed.

- 'Open' opens the file in the default application. 'Open with' lets
the user choose an alternative application with which to open the file.
This functionality is currently in Nautilus, and the proposed menu
structure is only a minor update.

- The 'Take this file and' menu allows the user to perform actions other
than 'open' on a file. Applications will be able to plug into this
menu, and providing an appropriate space into which applications can add
actions. This option will save a lot of clutter that would otherwise
appear at the top level menu.

- Re. the print option, if this is very difficult to do I agree it would
sensible to spin it off into a standalone project. This feature should
not block the rest of the menu reorganisation described in this bug.

- Good point, these items should be updated to 'Share with Ubuntu One'
and 'Publish with Ubuntu One'

- The wording 'Make Alias' is used in OSX and 'Create Shortcut' is used
in Windows. We should use consistent terminology that is familiar to
users of other operating systems where possible to help new users
transition to Ubuntu. The wording Create alias aims to give a degree
of familiarity to users of both Windows and OSX.

- Re. zoom in and zoom out controls (is this what you were referring to
when talking about icon size?), these controls will remain in both the
Nautilus interface top tool bar and also in the application menu, so I
see no need for them also to be replicated in the right click menu.

[Bug 789172] Re: Evolution closes unexpectedly after moving a Google Calendar schedule

2011-05-27 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 789251] [NEW] okular displays pushpin over embedded video

2011-05-27 Thread Oliver Borm
Public bug reported:

Since ubuntu maverick okular displays pushpin over an embedded video.
This is the test file:

http://pages.uoregon.edu/noeckel/computernotes/movieExample/movie.pdf

This problem seems not to come from okular itself, bit from a newer
version of poppler. The crucial change was here:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/poppler/poppler/commit/?h=poppler-0.16id=82954ea5f8ba880276328765f104690a05adbd9e

It would be nice if one could access the options (at the moment they are
greyed out) in the widget in order to disable this functionality.

[Bug 448234] Re: epiphany-browser assert failure: epiphany-browser: /build/buildd/nspluginwrapper-1.2.2/src/npw-rpc.c:1225: do_recv_NPObject: Assertion `npobj != ((void *)0)' failed.

2011-05-27 Thread Robin Roth
Got the same bug on my machine with epiphany (but not firefox). This
showed up only recently, but it might be it's because I usually don't
use flash websites. See crash log attached.

Using epiphany 2.30.2 on ubuntu maverick

** Attachment added: Crash log of epiphany
