[Bug 55131] Bug buddy looks for non-existing Desktop when saving

2006-08-03 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
Public bug reported:

I'm running Edgy, updated as of today (2006-08-04) and when applications
are crashing, bug buddy wants to save them to ~/Desktop, which doesn't
exist because I run desktop_is_home_dir or what that setting is called.
All other apps that I know of honour this setting and looks for ~
instead.

[Bug 57753] Re: Some partitions in edgy get two icons on the GNOME Desktop

2006-09-08 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
I have something similar, but possibly not the same(?)

I have, showing on the desktop: hdb5, hdd1, Media, Media2 and Windows.
hdb5 and hdd1 are the same as Media2 and Media, respectively. The only
thing apparently different is that Windows isn't mounted via UUID (as
that didn't work when the change went in) while the two other partitions
are. There are no double entries in /etc/fstab.

Media, Media2 and Windows are the partition labels, of course.

Adding this info as it didn't seem exactly as the same behavior as the
other bug reports, since I have hd* names.

[Bug 57753] Re: Some partitions in edgy get two icons on the GNOME Desktop

2006-09-08 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
With the updated description, maybe I should mention that my partitions
are not made with Partition Magic or any of the parted variants, but as
far as I can recall only managed from within Ubuntu and its installers.
Nor are the affected partitions NTFS or FAT, they are both ext3 systems.

I'm not so sure about the wrapped partitions either... cfdisk does not
show anything like that, especially for hdd1 which is the only partition
on hdd (unless I'm missing something).

And again, the one difference immediately obvious (if this affects NTFS
too) is that the double entries are mounted via UUID.

Ummm what?? It only shows up in Firefox, it only affects Firefox,

[Bug 30857] Re: Firefox mistakes clicks for drag operations

2006-05-16 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
I'm not so sure those are actual duplicates, to me and many others that
has posted in forums (see those links), it is impossible to duplicate
this behaviour in anything but Firefox, not even other Geckobased
applications like Epiphany.

Menus, desktop, programs - you name it, they behave like they should,
but not Firefox. On three very different computers with wildly different
peripherials just for me! That means *something* has to do with that
application, yes? Maybe it only happens together with Xorg, I don't
know. I don't see how any info in those change anything about this bug,
and especially not how they make it not a firefox bug.

And if it's a Xorg issue, why isn't assigned there instead of silently
dropped into general limbo?

[Bug 64809] Gaim should refresh status for all accounts when returning from hibernate

2006-10-09 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
Public bug reported:

When hibernating with Gaim active, and then resuming later, Gaim looks
and behaves as if it has active connections and is connected to the
network - however, it may just display how it looked when hibernate was
invoked.

Eventually, it will come around and update its status by itself, but
I've seen this take up to about 20 minutes for an account before it
notices that it isn't still connected and refreshes. During this time,
there is no indication that the user is not in fact connected and
available, unless a message is attempted. Very undiscoverable.

The only workaround (apart from closing and starting Gaim) is to
manually set status to Offline, then back to Available/Away etc.

Solution: The system should notify Gaim that it should refresh its
status, in some appropriate way. Perhaps upstart could simply tell Gaim
to refresh all accounts via dbus or something like that, or maybe a
small, active-by-default plugin could be added.

Posting bug here in the first place, because best solution for Ubuntu
may be upstart-specific.

That would only be if/when network manager is the default in Ubuntu,
right? Also, my version of Gaim is not that version yet. Until then, it
will only work after manual intervention, by installing NM and upgrading

If it worked for you anyways, what protocol(s) were you testing? It
seems that some are quicker than others to react. Also, did it actually
go Not Available/Available as it should, or did you just have your
connection back this one time? And if it actually worked, how is this
possible? :)

I didn't understand that at all: uses the browser selected to the

And sure it is the default, maybe there is some technical reason to call
it something else, but the fact remains that:

On a fairly vanilla install of Ubuntu 6.10 that has not mucked with any

[Bug 74261] Show Disc Number next to Album (if exists)

2006-12-03 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
Public bug reported:

Small enhancement request:

I have all of my albums that contain more than one disc tagged with disc
number, and album name being the same for all the discs in the set
(after all, there's an entry for disc # so why not use it? :).

Rhythmbox currently has no way of showing this. It does sort the discs
separately so that they are grouped (because they are in different
directories on the drive maybe?) but there is no way to see which disc
is which or even that a socg is part of a multi-disc.

I would like for Rhythmbox to, if and only if there is a disc number
present in the tags, add it after the Album name in the same column in
some nice way. A few examples:

Album Name (1)
Album Name (Disc 1)
Album Name - #1
Album Name (#1)

I like the first one best, it's discreet yet informative, number two is
almost as good but perhaps takes too much space.

Also, if the sorting is only due to directories on disc, perhaps disc
number should be taken into account when sorting too.

There's at least one GNOME bug that is semi-related[1], but that is
about possibly adding columns for disc number among others, which is not
what I want, or at least I think that may be overkill though it would
also solve the problem.

[Bug 74261] Re: Show Disc Number next to Album (if exists)

2006-12-03 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
I disagree.

This is a small fix/tweak/enhancement to existing features, something
which has traditionally been handled in this and other bug systems from
what I can see. To draft a complete specification and have it go through
boards of review and all that seems a very backwards and wasteful way to
go. Looking at the specs that do exist, they seem to handle bigger
issues and completely new features, not minor fixes. I don't see this
report fitting in there at all.

The usual action for stuff like this is forwarding it upstream. I could
of course have reported it upstream directly, but I've been told that
Ubuntu likes to have it all filed here.

[Bug 30749] Tabs disappear in core Gnome applications

2006-02-07 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30749

Affects: gtk+2.0 (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
When opening more than a few tabs in Gnome applications like Gedit,
Epiphany etc, earlier tabs suddenly disappear with no warning and almost
without trace. All that is seen are two tiny arrows beside the tabs
which allows the user to scroll the tab list to reach the other tabs.

When this happens the first few times it's a very confusing, and also
scary and upsetting experience - where did my important tab go? Did I
save? Please, please, please be in my history.

After finding out what actually happens, and at least understanding it,
it is just incredibly annoying and unusable. The huge advantages that
tabs offer are totally lost: instant overview and one-click access.
Without those, might as well use separate windows like Internet Explorer
or Notepad, although they only get as inaccessible after their windows
have grouped on the task list.

Almost all other tabbed systems shrink their tabs when needing to, and
it works great for them. A few expand into multiple rows instead.

I thought long and hard before filing this bug, because this is a
sensitive question apparently - common opinion is that this is a
50/50-issue, some love this, others hate it. Personally I've mostly seen
hate, and I deeply, strongly feel that this must be addressed one way or
the other, so here goes.

Summary on current behaviour:

* It is scary, surprising and confusing
* It takes away the instant overview of tabs
* It takes away the instant access of tabs

I suggest that:

* GtkNotebook gets another mode of operation, where tabs shrink instead of
disappear when space becomes scarce.
* If use open an incredible amount of tabs, it's ok to disappear them though,
we can't do magic and there's just so many pixels.
* Old mode of operation is also kept, and a global preference for the whole
Gnome desktop switches all GtkNotebooks to either behaviour for all using
applications.
* Default is changed to Resize, because:
  - That is what any tab savvy user is used to
  - That doesn't scare by making things disappear suddenly
  - It's better usability with instant overview and access
* Nice to have: multiple row tabs as third option.

So, you heard me right. I propose to add extra options to Gnome. =) I
think it's warranted though. If it's such a 50/50 issue, there can
hardly be a good default. The current behaviour is scary and
unintiuitive, but have a loyal following. Those should be able to retain
their experience, just like there is spatial and non-spatial Nautilus.

For a more humorous rant on this frustration, I wrote this post a little
while back: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=124068 =)

[Bug 31199] Revert should be called Reload from disk, and a new Revert implemented

2006-02-11 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31199

Affects: gedit (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
File-Revert does not actually revert the file. Revert means to return
to a former condition, while what it actually does is reloading the
file from disk.

That file may have been changed by some other program, which is what I
actually use the current Revert for - reloading after external change.
However, that does not return it to a previous state, and it may be an
unexpected result due to the wording.

The warning says Changes made to the document in the last X minutes
will be permanently lost. even if no changes has actually occured. A
user that has made no changes may think that this is safe but become
very surprised if the file has changed externally.

If a Revert option is desired, then the application should make a note
of the state at open time and update it at every save - maybe a pointer
to a place in the undo history - that could be used to go back to this
earlier state. If undo is limited, a file could be used temporarily for
the session.

Ideally, there would be both a proper Revert and the current
functionality called Reload from disk.

[Bug 31295] Busy cursor flickers alot

Public bug reported:

applications, but it is most clear - and annoying - when opening web
pages in Firefox or Epiphany, perhaps because they use the combined
arrow+circle instead of just the circle.

Sometimes during the loading it stabilizes for a short while and looks
ok, so it has the capability - so I kind of assume that it usually can't
keep up somehow?

I've tried some other mouse themes from gnome-look and it's the same
thing.

The hardware should not be an issue since it is very snappy apart from
the fact that this is on a laptop, and the screen is one of those flat
ones that run in 60Hz only. That could have somethiong to do with it.
The cursor is smooth and nice on my Breeze desktop with much lower
specs, so it's either Dapper or that it's a laptop. In either case, I
think there needs to be some kind of solution, because I find myself
more and more annoyed at this.

If nothing else works, perhaps Ubuntu could provide a non-animated extra
mouse theme by default? (Thinking about future generations also).

[Bug 31295] Busy cursor flickers alot

2006-02-13 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31295

Comment:
Well what do you know, I found an easy testcase:
http://www.quirksmode.org/css/cursor.html displays different cursors via
CSS, and 'progress' (hand + circle) and 'wait' (circle) both flicker a
lot even without anythign else happening. So it isn't that the machine
has too much to do.

Then it is the question if it is the screen or something like that, and
if it can be made to work. Laptops are getting quite common... =)

[Bug 31295] Busy cursor flickers alot

2006-02-14 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31295

Comment:
Ok, after much digging and research it turns out that this seems to be a
bug with Nvidia and their drivers. It's the hardware cursor that is
borked in some way.

Setting SWCursor to true fixes the issue... for normal dekstop use,
but then it doesn't work in any accelerated environment such as video or
3D.

I guess that means that the bug is invalid for this package at least,
sorry to have bothered (but thankful for any tips). Still, perhaps a
non-animated alternative could be provided by default as stop-gap?

[Bug 31881] Nautilus always starts a Desktop unsorted

2006-02-18 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31881

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
See attached image. This is how it always looks for me at each login,
which means I have to invoke Clean Up By Name and that gets pretty
annoying after a while. Not to mention the bad impression it gives.

cartman is a SMB share on another computer, gamemaker.nu is a SSH
connection, if that could mean anything, since one seems to be sorted
alright and not the other.

Titled the bug this way because I sometimes switch Desktops by
symlinking ~/Desktop to new places, and each new Desktop is always
completely unsorted. This is more of a wishlist type of fix, but if it
could be in the same fix everything would be excellent. Something of an
auto-clean right after the Desktop has loaded.

Could probably be fixed by Bug #20284, which wants to always keep the
Desktop auto-arranged, but it could also be a separate issue so I file
this separately.

[Bug 31979] Screensaver should allow selective random

2006-02-19 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31979

Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I would like it to be possible to be selective about which screensavers
gets to be in the random list. I have a few favourites but currently it
is all or nothing.

A simplistic way to implement this would be to simply allow CTRL-
selecting in the screensavers list, see attached screenshot for mock-up.
It's not totally discoverable but OTOH it was the first thing I tried...
and it could be mentioned in the help for those who look for it. Those
who don't look for it will never notice.

A further step would be to have a separate GUI for this, but I'm note
sure if it's needed. An even better way to do it would be to introduce
checkboxes, that way individual screensavers could be previewed while
retaining the list.

[Bug 27143] gnome-settings-daemon crashes with evdev

2006-03-13 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/27143

Comment:
It's a pretty critical thing as it blocks anyone from using more than a
few buttons(?) on their mouse, so of course one is concerned if there is
any work being done?

I just tried the patch on the Gnome bugzilla and it worked perfectly on
a recent Dapper, applied against Gnome CVS.

Here are (somewhat loose) instructions for anyone wanting to try the
patch themselves. It includes downloading the relevant parts from Gnome
CVS and installing lots of dependencies most likely, as well as build
tools, so it takes some work.

---

How to test the patch for yourself: Open a terminal and follow along,
and line starting with $ is a commandline.

$ cd /tmp
$ cvs -d:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvs/gnome -z3 co gnome-control-center
$ cd gnome-control-center
$ ./autogen.sh

Fix any problems here, I had no autoconf1.9 for instance. Install with
apt-get/aptitude/synaptic

If needed after autogen.sh:

$ ./configure

and correct any dependencies until it's satisfied. Lots of hunting for
matching *-dev in apt.

$ make

Here I had to get the gstreamer 0.10 dev-packages, including for
plugins, and then run make again, configure missed those.

If you come to the point where it all succeeds, now try :

$ gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon

And it should fail as usual - warning, this also hangs Firefox for me.

Now we try the patch:

Download http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=57319 and save as
gnome-settings-daemon.patch in the working directory:

$ patch -p0 gnome-settings-daemon.patch
$ make
$ gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon

And now it should work, if the patch works for you. Now you can hit
CTRL-Z and type 'bg' if you want to free up the terminal and keep the
daemon running in the background.

-

I haven't tried installing it to the system yet, not sure if I will. I'd
rather have it fixed centrally.

Thanks! I wish information like this was a bit more readily available as
it seems that lack of testing is one of the biggest problems in cases
like these. Devs don't want to apply without testing and users don't
know how to test without applying, effectively creating a catch 22. =)

I still think it would be worth rolling in the patch and see if
something breaks - and do it as early as possible so there's time to
revert. Now it's getting late in the cycle... :(

[Bug 117751] Pressure sensitivity should be enabled by default for Wacom boards

2007-05-30 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

Starting with Feisty, Wacom boards work out of the box, except for
pressure sensitivity.

Steps needed to enable pressure today are (in Gimp, about the same in
Inkscape and maybe others):

1. File-Preferences
2. Input Devices-Configure extended input devices
3. For each of eraser, stylus and cursor: change Mode from Disabled to Screen
4. Save

For most people, this is just some invocation they have to do and most
don't even know what those steps do, or why there's an option to choose
Screen or Window and so on.

Given that the system correctly detects and activates the Wacom board,
it should be possible to just switch these settings on for affected
applications as well. For that matter, if these settings are just set
whether or not there is a board, does anything break or could this be a
reasonable default in the config files?

For the rare case that someone wants to use a Wacom, but without
pressure, this is exposed directly in tool in the Gimp, as you can
control what aspects pressure should affect. This setting is viewable
and changeable during use, unlike the actual activation.

Suggestion:

Activate pressure sensitivity by default, for everyone, for Wacom
tablets.

[Bug 117751] Re: Pressure sensitivity should be enabled by default for Wacom boards

2007-05-30 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
No, what I am looking for is to have it enabled, which it isn't by
default. You need to invoke strange rituals for that to happen, even
though the tablet is already acknowledged by the system and rest works
fine. It has nothing to do with levels, xorg.conf or PressCurve.

No matter what tablet is used, it seems to show cursor, stylus and
eraser and these need to be set to Screen to work properly. If there
is no tablet, these don't exist.

So, to my thinking, if they do exist, they should default to Screen.
Exactly how that is accomplished technically I don't know. For X,
xorg.conf contains Wacom entries no matter if you have a tablet or not,
that only appliles when there is one.

It's probably possible to do the same with the Gimps config file, as
nothing bad happens if I set this, then unplug the tablet.

[Bug 97185] D-Bus can't be used to start Gaim service

2007-03-27 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gaim

D-Bus can't be used to start Gaim service, because the gaim.service file
is malformed.

* Ubuntu 6.10
* Gaim 1:2.0.0+beta6-0ubuntu4

See also upstream Debian bug: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=404293

Steps to reproduce:

Run command: dbus-send --dest=org.freedesktop.DBus /org/freedesktop/DBus
org.freedesktop.DBus.StartServiceByName string:'org.gaim.GaimService'
uint32:0

Expected result: Gaim starts :)

Actual result (with --print-reply):

Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ExecFailed: Failed to execute
program ${exec_prefix}/bin/gaim: No such file or directory

This is because /usr/share/dbus-1/services/gaim.service contains the
line:

Exec=${exec_prefix}/bin/gaim

All other service files have hardcoded paths.

Eh... so that the media player is launched whenever I add a SSH server
in Nautilus is not a bug?

That sounds kinda weird, I don't think it is a desirable behaviour to
open my media player when I just want to browser a remote server, and
even before I tried top actually open the remote directory.

It certainly has never ever done that before in any version of Ubuntu or

Of course you can have any info you ask for. :)

But the first reply was really kinda offensive, since it was some
boilerplate both totally wrong and inappropriate, as well as essentially
telling the reporter to please don't file bug reports, because we don't
want them.

It does just what I say above, but I'll try to be even more clear:

$ cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=hardy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu hardy (development branch)

Updated as of April 3.

nautilus 1:2.22.1-0ubuntu1
totem 2.22.0-0ubuntu3
libgvfscommon0 0.2.2-1 0

Steps to reproduce on my computer:

1. Places-Connect to server (or equivalent in Nautilus)
2. Choose SSH
3. Enter valid SSH address and username
4. Optionally enter other data or check bookmark box (doesn't matter)
5. Click Connect
6. Fill in Password box if the password is not stored (same either way)

Expected result:

SFTP icon appears on Desktop, ready to click.

Actual result:

SFTP icon appears on Desktop, ready to click. And an instance of Totem
starts. If password is not saved, the password box appears again a few
times. Totem is totally unresponsive, even after adding passwords.
Pretty soon it goes grey (Compiz says: Do not answer) and never returns.

100% repeatable on any SSH server I have access to. None of the servers have
anything unusual either in root (/) or the users home dir. In fact, one of the
servers is an almost perfectly clean Gutsy ubuntu-server with no extra files in
either.

No autorun, no media files, no nothing on the servers from what I can
see.

Tried to record a screencast, but Istanbul does not work, probably bug #63996

Be happy to keep giving you even more information if you want it. =)

[Bug 209915] Re: Totem is launched when connecting to SSH server

2008-04-06 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
I figured it out, finally. It's something between a bug and user error.
:) I'd call it a regression, but possibly it's just unexpected behavior.

The problem is Open with in Nautilus. I always add Open with Totem
on directories to be able to play a directory of movies easily. For some
reason this became the default action, not just an added action, and for
some reason it applied to SSH servers but not local ones... that's why
it was extra confusing. Also, old version of Nautilus did not open a
folder on connecting, just put a shortcut on teh desktop (but that's
possibly due to my config).

Setting Open folder as default resolved it for me.

There is some slight difference somewhere in how Nautilus treats this -
I *think* that it simply didn't set Open with actions as default, but
just added them as extra options before. Alternatively, it was smart
about default actions for remote folders... not sure which.

2008-04-07 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
 not really a bug then

No, not really - but it's an unexpected (change in) behavior, even
though it's an unusual corner case.

I guess the real issue is a discussion on how Open with should be
treated for folders, and how it should work for special folders.

Maybe it should be special cased to always be Open folder as default
action? No other action is likely to make sense, especially for remote
folders. It seems it's overridden already for local folders, which was
part of the confusion. To my mind, this was the old behavior, which
would make this bug a slight regression.

[Bug 213745] Re: PDF pages appear extremely small in evince

2008-04-09 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
but I don't think it's an evince bug since I observe the same problem
with Adobe Reader.

Acrobat reader (via Medibuntu) works for me, Evince doesn't.

Tom Kirby: did not solve it for me.

[Bug 196962] Re: Audio CD launches both Rhythmbox and Sound Juicer

2008-03-05 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
I wondered why it would launch RB, when the common action probably is to
rip the CD. Turns out that, according to the help file, Importing a CD
means launching Sound juicer.

Could be more clearly worded in the menu, does not automatically
actually import the music unless you tweak settings, and it is one extra
step, but I guess I can live with it now that I know about it.

[Bug 208548] [NEW] en_SE locale needed to get correct weekdays in Sweden

2008-03-28 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

This bug is about the calendar applet in GNOME, but I don't know which
package that is.

Latest Hardy, updated as of 2008-03-29.

In short: When in Sweden, the week should start on Monday, no matter
what language is chosen. When I pick English, it's set to Sunday (locale
becomes en_US).

That it is even tied to language or locale is fundamentally broken, as
is the fact that it is not possible to choose differently if the default
guess is wrong. Why the *language* would matter is anybody's guess.

See bug #2098 among others for background, discussion, etc.

But, as it's broken and is probably gonna stay that way, I ask that a
en_SE locale is added instead. It's extremely common here to use English
language (on Windows installs as well), for a number of reasons. Windows
does the right thing with the calendar though.

If an en_SE locale is added and being picked when a user installs the
English/Sweden combination, it's resolved for us at least, like it was
for en_GB in bug #2098. Picking them off one at a time like that is not
optimal, but it's better than nothing. :)

Thanks!

[Bug 199088] Re: [Hardy] Message: Suspend Problem. Your computer failed to suspend

2008-06-28 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
Oh, so it's a recorded sound... it sure sounds more like somethings
broken in my speakers. I think it is the same, but it seems it is
played a bit faster (and therefore also at a higher pitch) when it
indicates suspend failure.

This GNOME bug is about this sound:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=406144 - quote Rickard Hughes:
It needs to be quite painful to listen to be able to be heard in a
laptop bag.

The real bug is of course that suspend does work, but is giving error
messages anyways.

[Bug 153533] Volume Applet: Rename PCM to Master or simply Volume or something

2007-10-17 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

In the quest of being a desktop for human beings, with a human-friendly
interface:

What is PCM? Does any regular user know? Does it make sense that the
volume applet displays PCM: 100% when hovering over it, or that PCM is
the main control to adjust in the mixer? Google search for PCM leads to
technical explanations on Pulse-code modulation which is very unhelpful.

Is the PCM control meant to be a Master control? Could it be called
Master instead? Or could the applet display Volume: 100% instead
perhaps, for the master volume?

A small detail perhaps, but you don't see these kind of wordings in the
other mainstream OS:es and for good reason.

[Bug 41798] Gimp lags and misses some strokes especially when drawing fast

2006-04-27 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
Public bug reported:

Affects: gimp (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
When drawing in the Gimp, the cursor often lags behind, and some strokes
are sometimes missing completely. This gets worse as one draws faster,
up till almost unusable if trying to draw normally.

Trying applications like Inkscape, everything is registered perfectly,
no matter how fast I make lines and calligraphy.

I'm using a Wacom board, and this is not on a slow or even slowish
computer, it's on a 2.4MHz with large memory, quite recent Nvidia card
and accelerated drivers. No other graphics applications, including stuff
like Unreal Tournament has any trouble, so I don't think that's it, and
the tablet works fine in other gfx apps.

I'm not using unreasonable image sizes either, this happens and behaves
mostly the same on a 72dpi 1024x768 image just as well as a 300dpi A3.

Not actually being an artist myself, but I work with a lot of them, and
honestly, I can't show Gimp to any of them in this state. I don't know
if this is a general Gimp issue or if it's only in Ubuntu, or even just
in Dapper, since I don't have other distros to compare with. Any clues
to investigate and fix, and opinions from others would be welcome.

[Bug 41798] Re: Gimp lags and misses some strokes especially when drawing fast

2006-04-27 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
Found another one with the same problem:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=142832highlight=gimp+lag

That description is probably better, too:

have my Wacom Graphire 4 tablet working on Linux (Ubuntu 6.04,
kernel 2.6.15, built-in tablet drivers) and get bad pressure sensivity
and line quality in The GIMP 2.2.10, but at least it's working.

However, when using any of the paint/ink tools, although producing a
decent stroke, it fails to keep up. The stroke does not lag as if on a
slow system, but if I end a stroke and quicky make another stroke, the
second stroke does not appear.

I notice that the CPU goes up to 100% whenever I paint with the
paint/ink tool, and there's a slight cursor-lag at the end of each
stroke, which I guess is why the system is not catching the next one.

I'm sure this is not due to GIMP's inefficiency, as it works fine on
my friend's much slower computer.

I'm not sure it's all that similar: if I'm drawing my signature, like
the example says, some lines will be missing, but they are drawn mostly
in realtime. It's like some strokes never have the time to get
registered, or something - but they do in other programs.

week and have not heard the sound yet, earlier it was almost every day.

[Bug 254312] Re: Audio fails after suspend, Intel ICH9 family

2008-11-10 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 202089 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/202089

You're doing it wrong. To restart pulseaudio, first kill it (killall
pulseaudio), verify that it's no longer there (`pidof pulseaudio`
shouldn't show any output, then start pulseaudio (pulseaudio -D).

Ah. So pulseaudio is different from all other services, that's a bug in
its own right...

If VLC can still play sound then it must be using ALSA instead of
 PulseAudio for its sound backend.

Yes, of course. That's just qualifying that sound is working in general,
that the sound card is properly initialized after resume. Though VLC
does not really tell what it's using, it says Default. ;)

 Try this fix:
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/202089/comments/79

Yes, that works, for now. Thanks!

[Bug 33325] Re: Seeking through mpg videos doesn't work properly

2009-03-14 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
I have something similar to your problem in Intrepid, Miloš. Totem seeks
forward on VOB files even when I press the left arrow, and clicking the
seek bar with middle button is imprecise.

No idea if it's the same bug as this though, but please let me know if
you open a separate bug?

[Bug 627906] [NEW] Actionscript files are improperly detected as OpenOffice.org files (Applix Spreadsheets spreadsheet)

2010-09-01 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

(First off, sorry if this is not a Nautilus bug per se, but that's where
I see the effect of it)

Actionscript files are improperly detected as OpenOffice.org files,
something called Applix Spreadsheets spreadsheet and opens by default
in OOo.

They should, apart from being properly detected, probably open in gedit
by default, at least that's what I would expect, like any other source
files.

OTOH, the file command only does slightly better:

  $ file ResourceLoader.as
ResourceLoader.as: UTF-8 Unicode (with BOM) Java program text, with CRLF line
terminators
