I'm nearly certain that this is the same bug as GNOME bug 566831. g-p-m didn't used to notice when power was plugged in while the computer is asleep. [Bug 214370] Re: Logout/Shutdown Sound Not Working
This is not a pulseaudio bug. The underlying issue is that gnome- session does not run the shutdown scripts in /usr/share/gnome/shutdown. gnome-session-canberra puts a script in that directory that plays the logout sound. It just never gets run. I've filed a patch in the linked GNOME bug to fix this. [Bug 384012] [NEW] Include all binary packages in Main
Public bug reported: Trying to install python-gnome2-extras in my karmic-main chroot gives this: python-gnome2-extras: Depends: python-gtkmozembed (= 2.25.3-2ubuntu1) but it is not installable Depends: python-eggtrayicon (= 2.25.3-2ubuntu1) but it is not installable Depends: python-gtkspell (= 2.25.3-2ubuntu1) but it is not installable Depends: python-gksu2 (= 2.25.3-2ubuntu1) but it is not installable Depends: python-gdl (= 2.25.3-2ubuntu1) but it is not installable Which causes a FTBFS for at least deskbar-applet. [Bug 592671] Re: application cache update
Deleting the cache files is 'safe', just slightly reduces performance until a package is updated and forces a regeneration. Perhaps a really easy short term fix is just have desktop-file-install blow away the cache when it installs a file. Note that this bug is Ubuntu-specific and arises because of gnome-menus with its 22_desktop-cache.patch and dpkg trigger that regenerates the cache when a desktop file is changed. -- application cache update https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/592671 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to desktop-file-utils in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1605330] [NEW] Guarantee access to /dev/rfkill
Public bug reported: indicator-bluetooth wants direct access to /dev/rfkill. In Ubuntu, that access is granted to the current active user by logind by virtue of the uaccess tag on /dev/rfkill. That tag is granted by /lib/udev/rules.d/61-gnome-settings-daemon- rfkill.rules from the gnome-settings-daemon package. I think indicator-bluetooth either should: 1) ship its own version of that file to grant the uaccess tag to /dev/rfkill, or 2) simply use the DBus api provided by rfkilld, if that's possible (I don't happen to know whether indicator-bluetooth's rfkill usage can be easily ported) This came up in the context of Ubuntu Touch, where gnome-settings-daemon is not installed (the phablet user is granted access by being in the android_input group, but that is a solution we'd like to move away from as we support more users and a proper lightdm greeter). ** Affects: indicator-bluetooth (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to indicator-bluetooth in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1605330 Title: Guarantee access to /dev/rfkill To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-bluetooth/+bug/1605330/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1389336] [NEW] Use geoclue-2.0
Public bug reported: Geoclue2 (source package geoclue-2.0) is a separate, parallel- installable version of geoclue1 (source package geoclue). We will likely shortly have both in main (see MIR bug 1388294) and it would be great to be able to demote geoclue1 to universe and only support one version of the service. The packages associated with this bug all have a reverse depends on geoclue1 in some form or patches to remove support for geoclue-2.0 because it wasn't in main yet (e.g. gnome-settings-daemon). [Bug 1480877] Re: Access points' "PropertiesChanged" dbus signals freeze UI on mobile devices
I just tried Tony's lp:~phablet-team/network-manager/lp1480877-wifi-rm- dup-scan-signals branch and did the same thing I've done before to trigger this bug: walk around my neighborhood with Terminal open, running top. To be fair, I was testing rc-proposed tip + Tony's branch, whereas I previously tested with OTA6. So there's more than one change here. But I haven't heard of related changes in this area, so I will attribute all improvements to Tony's branch. Before this patch, I was seeing NM spike to 30-50% CPU while scanning and causing a matching spike in dbus-daemon to 100% for a while (at least 3s, sometimes a fair bit longer). With this patch, NM stayed at ~15% when scanning, and dbus-daemon never went above 7% (usually at 4%). A massive improvement. >From a UX perspective, I still saw UI stuttering. Seemingly without the CPU-load justification to warrant it. But I subjectively don't think it was as bad or long-lasting as before. And top doesn't lie. [Bug 1480877] Re: Access points' "PropertiesChanged" dbus signals freeze UI on mobile devices
I tested silo 26 + libqt5network5 from Tony's PPA and did my normal routine of walking out of range of my home network. It seems much better. dbus-daemon CPU usage is down (only ~30% for a few seconds after initial switch to 3G and ~15% during scans after). But more importantly, stuttering is much better. Only a couple tiny stutters on initial switch. And none during scans. I'm +100 on trying to land this. (My test was on a relatively-recently-rebooted phone, so maybe not the ideal test. I'll try again later after a while of uptime to double confirm the results, but this looks good. If I don't post again, assume it worked great.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to dbus-cpp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1480877 Title: Access points' "PropertiesChanged" dbus signals freeze UI on mobile devices To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1480877/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1480877] Re: Access points' "PropertiesChanged" dbus signals freeze UI on mobile devices
Here's a followup on living with silo 26 (pre-comment 97, so an earlier version, but I doubt it matters for testing?) and Tony's libqt5network5. I tested this morning (so a full day of the phone living on this code) and it was slightly worse -- small stutters instead of tiny ones. But still a vast improvement on what it was before these changes. I assume the degradation was due to other actors on the phone leaking signal watches. Or just random chance. But I still love the changes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to dbus-cpp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1480877 Title: Access points' "PropertiesChanged" dbus signals freeze UI on mobile devices To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1480877/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

@Tony, small stutters when transitioning from wifi to mobile. I don't see stutters when scanning anymore. [Bug 1265528] Re: Share ring tone with greeter via AccountsService
@seb128: I agree that AS is less good for us than gsettings in at least the following important ways: 1) it is harder for admins to change the default value of custom properties 2) there is not yet a friendly get/set command line tool 3) libaccountsservice hasn't yet added API for custom properties 4) correctly setting the permissions for properties to be only shared with the lightdm user is easy to forget to do But on the other hand, for our "sharing info with greeter" use case, I think it's a necessary evil. As for making it more optimal: #1 can be managed with diverts, #2 can be fixed with a small amount of effort, #3 with a bit more effort, and #4 could be fixed by installing a common policykit policy that could be referenced by all custom properties that are for lightdm. Given that storing config in AS is a necessary evil and that synchronization adds all sorts of new problems, I would prefer to avoid synchronization where possible and just use AS as the canonical store for configuration that needs to be shared with the greeter. About bug 1237642, I did forget that I mentioned ring tone in that bug when I was filing this one. I was thinking that this bug was for ring tone and that one for volume/mute. [Bug 1352559] [NEW] Language and password settings aren't being updated correctly
Public bug reported: Build 169, mako. Looks like display language and password mode aren't being updated correctly because libaccountsservice isn't reporting that the manager object is loaded. You'll see the message "internal error: user not loaded" when trying to change password modes or you'll see the language setting fail to change after setting a new one. [Bug 1353469] [NEW] Compiler optimization error needs investigation
Public bug reported: This is a breakaway bug from bug 1351308. accountsservice 0.6.37-1ubuntu7 introduced a new bug where libaccountsservice would not report the manager object as loaded. It wasn't because of the content of that upload, but rather seemingly because of building with a new compiler. It got uploaded shortly after the gcc 4.9 transition. I wasn't able to determine whether this is something accountsservice is doing or just gcc's fault. But even inserting some debug statements around the place or downgrading optimization to -O1 made the problem go away. So I'm leaning towards gcc. For now, we just changed optimization in the package to workaround the problem. But the root source should be investigated. ** Affects: gcc-4.9 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Package changed: accountsservice (Ubuntu) => gcc-4.9 (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to accountsservice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1353469 Title: Compiler optimization error needs investigation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-4.9/+bug/1353469/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 383461] Re: gconf-sanity-check-2 exits with code 256 on Xorg start
This is because a line in gconfd still references that directory. Whenever it receives a org.gnome.GConf.Default.SystemSet signal, it notifies listeners of that directory that it changed. But when it does so, if the directory is missing, it creates it with 0700 permissions (i.e. drwx--). So two things are wrong there: (1) It should be referencing gconf.xml.defaults not .system and (2) it *seems* like it should be creating the directory with 0755 permissions. But issue (2) is moot if we fix (1). Still might be worth an upstream bug though. Additionally, we should probably now add a line to the packaging fixing this issue for people that upgraded to Karmic by fixing the permissions on that directory. Also, the package should own/create that directory, since gconf-sanity-check doesn't like the directory to be missing if we're going to add it to our default path (as we do). ** Changed in: gconf (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => In Progress ** Changed in: gconf (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Michael Terry (mterry) -- gconf-sanity-check-2 exits with code 256 on Xorg start https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/383461 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gconf in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 348124] Re: Suspend should prevent shutdown and vice versa
So I tested. After I got the 'will hibernate in a bit unless you plug in' message, I suspended. Then plugged in power, and resumed. The laptop went on its merry way, and did not give me any funny stuff. So that's good. This means the upstream bug is fixed. The issue with trying to suspend *while* a hibernation is underway is still there. I let my laptop drain again, waited until it seemed like a hibernation was actually occurring (disk activity and such), and then hit the suspend menu item. It did not suspend. It continued to hibernate. I plugged in while asleep. When I woke it up, however, it got most of the way (to a black console and I was able to alt+tab to other VTs, but no visible X) but then hibernated immediately again. I thought maybe it was because I had plugged in while asleep. So I woke up again and plugged it in after it seemed the kernel had woken stuff up, but while the disk was still churning and trying to get everything in place. Still hibernated again. I ended up booting an older kernel to stop it trying to unhibernate. So... Not sure what that bug is about (and would be interested if I just got unlucky there)... But it seems the 'not noticing AC being plugged in while asleep' bug is squashed, and I wasn't able to suspend while a hibernate was going on. So I guess that's victory, modulo the hibernation issue, which I should really try to reproduce and file a bug about. -- Suspend should prevent shutdown and vice versa https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/348124 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Savvas also discovered that upstream is unmaintained, so if we want this, we ought to put it in ourselves until upstream wakes up. I'm attaching a debdiff for Karmic. Too bad I didn't get this in for Jaunty. ** Attachment added: "stb-timezone.debdiff" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/26147460/stb-timezone.debdiff -- time-admin shows different time zone when it is restarted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/43644 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-tools in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 43644] Re: time-admin shows different time zone when it is restarted
I filed bug http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=526940 in Debian, with a simpler patch (simpler because as you mentioned, Savvas, they simplified the Debian logic). ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #526940 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=526940 ** Also affects: gnome-system-tools (Debian) via http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=526940 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Also affects: system-tools-backends (Debian) via http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=526940 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- time-admin shows different time zone when it is restarted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/43644 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-tools in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 320208] [NEW] Don't offer Hibernate option if no swap
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm If there's no swap partition, gdm shouldn't offer to hibernate, as it doesn't make sense. There's an upstream bug with patch that hasn't been commented on. I'll attach a Jaunty debdiff here as well. ** Affects: gdm Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #542542 http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=542542 ** Also affects: gdm via http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=542542 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- Don't offer Hibernate option if no swap https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/320208 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
