[Desktop-packages] [Bug 898531] [NEW] thunderbird doesn't quit when using IMAP and empty trash on exit

2011-12-01 Thread Patrik Nilsson
Public bug reported:

When using an IMAP server and set Thunderbird to empty trash on exit,
Thunderbird doesn't quit. When you press the cross button on the title
list, Thunderbird closes all its windows, but the process always stays
in memory.

You can't start Thunderbird again with this option, it says it is still
running. You need to kill the process first.

Unchecking empty on exit when using IMAP and you can start Thunderbird
repeatedly.

(When using POP it always works as expected.)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 884136] Re: Gedit icon is missing

2011-12-01 Thread Sasa Stamenkovic
Another thing I noticed.

When Gedit is opened from launcher, it has icon, then when I open some
file from Nautilus (double click) it opens file in a new window instead
in a new tab in already opened Gedit instance. Is this expected
behavior?

I'm afraid I have two Gedits installed, one invalid used by Nautilus (no
icon), and one regular run from launcher.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 893629] Re: LibreOffice Writer: Saving a new file causes crash

2011-12-01 Thread cirrus
Christopher,

now I finally tried your hint, but it did not lead to any new results.
All updates are installed and libraptor1-dbg, too. When I launch
LibreOffice and save in odf it crashes and no apport window appears and
no file in /var/crash is created.

  the whole application crashes.

To get more information, I started LibreOffice on the shell and got this
errors as an output:

  ak@computer:~$ libreoffice

/usr/lib/librdf.so.0: symbol raptor_new_world_internal, version libraptor2.so.0

  ak@computer:~$

I could reproduce this several times, so I assume there must be a bug.

If I use an already existing file, there is no problem at all.

It was only reported for Ubuntu and doesn't seem to affect other

I managed to create a small script that shows this problem. Its only
dependency is libgtk2-perl. After it's started, Xorg is using a lots
of CPU and the whole system is less responsive. This script is

About once a month or so, an upgrade (including the upgrade from natty

middlemouse.contentLoadURL to true.

Am I missing anything useful by having that add-on disabled?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 890441] Re: nautilus memory leak

2011-12-01 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Quiting those is not enough, the isuee could be in their .so, what you
could do is either uninstall the packages or simply rename the
/usr/lib/nautilus directory on disk and restart nautilus, if the issue
doesn't happen then you will know it comes from one of those .so
installed in the nautilus directory, then you can iterate until finding
which one

  nautilus memory leak

Bug description:
There are other bug reports with this description, but they are either
3-4 years old, or closed, or invalid, or expired.

I'm not doing anything exotic, but after about an hour or two of using
my system (not even copying or moving files, or thumbnailing, or...)
memory usage in nautilus goes up to 1.4G or so. When I kill this task,
re-launch nautilus, it sits happily on just a few hundred meg... and
  then begins to grow again.

It also takes a LONG time to start up, and the system is very
unresponsive meanwhile... like 20 seconds. This may be a useful clue?

I tried to do a valgrind report, but it makes nautilus so slow as to
be unusable -- like 2 minutes to open a folder on the desktop... so I
couldn't exactly use it normally to get a good log. Nonetheless,
  here's a log I did capture.

I trust that the data captured by ubuntu-bug will have my library
versions, cpu type, RAM info, etc. Please let me know what else I can
  provide. Thanks!

Bug description:
When using Unity, clicking on the desktop to give it the keyboard
focus and then pressing Ctrl-L causes a location bar to appear behind
(and partly obscured by) the Unity panel, and the icons on the desktop

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 890441] Re: nautilus memory leak

2011-12-01 Thread Sebastien Bacher
ok, so trying on an oneiric system there nautilus starts around 16mb and
is still using that after 15 minutes, so it's clearly not all systems

something else you can try is to change nautilus to not display the background:
- run gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons false
- then run nautilus --quit
- then run nautilus in valgrind, that will open a browser window, let it open
for 5 minutes then close it, that should quit nautilus since it's not
displaying the background and no view is kept open
- then attach the valgrind log to the bug

getting a log this way might be better since nautilus will be closed
properly there which will let valgrind get a better summary or what
memory was freed as it should (if you stop it with --quit or ctrl-C you
might prevent some callbacks to run which will change the summary)

After I moved files, when I open gedit it does not show up in Alt+Tab

window, I can't return back to it. Problem resists even if I move
.desktop diles back.

So now I have new problem. Any idea?

  Use case:
Laptop's X/GUI was broken due to alpha release of lucid
wanted to connect my laptop with desktop's extra NIC
Wanted to share desktop's upstream connection (eth0) with eth1, which on its
part is connected with the laptop.

Opened network settings through nm-applet, edit Auto eth1, set ipv4
settings to shared to other computers.

notify-osd now goes haywire, reporting wired connection established
and wired connection disconnected in a endless loop.

Looking at ifconfig output, repeated many times on the command line,
does, sometimes for short periods 1 second or so, show that eth1 has a
10.x.x.x ip address, which is good I think because this would be
  necessary for the NAT workings.

Disabling network connection with nm-applet does not stop notify-osd
from looping the same message over and over.

Typeahead functionality involving mouse scroll is broken

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Description: Ubuntu 11.10
  Release: 11.10

  nautilus:
    Installed: 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu3.1
    Candidate: 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu3.1

  Expected behaviour:
  - Open the directory that contains files with names starting with a similar
character/string in nautilus. Example: abc, file1, file2, file3, xyz.
  - To select “file3” using typeahead you can either type explicit, unequivocal
string (“file3” in this case, as the digit distinguishes file in this
directory) or type common part and USE SCROLL TO NAVIGATE THROUGH THE RESULTS
(in this case, e.g. “f”, which makes you able to scroll from “file1” to
“file3”; “abc” and “xyz” are excluded as they don’t match) -- each scroll down
selects next available item, each scroll up selects every previous item; I do
not know how to say it more clearly.

  Actual behaviour:
  - Open the directory that contains files with names starting with a similar
character/string in nautilus. Example: abc, file1, file2, file3, xyz.
  - Type in “f”.
  - Scrolling through the results doesn’t work UNLESS you place mouse pointer
over the typeahead box. This is not very useful as this box is small and
located in a corner.

I remember the abovementioned expected behaviour to be an actual
behaviour of 9.10 and classic GNOME, from which I turned to oneiric
  few weeks ago.

Ken, Cimi, that's an issue due to the overlay scrollbar which was added

This problem was first reported against GCstar, but it's not specific

Since they upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10, many users reported that the
application is really slow. After some investigations, it appeared
that the problem occurs when the application uses a background image.
It was only reported for Ubuntu and doesn't seem to affect other
  distributions.

I managed to create a small script that shows this problem. Its only
dependency is libgtk2-perl. After it's started, Xorg is using a lots
of CPU and the whole system is less responsive. This script is
  attached to this report.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 894153] Re: Can't change Library name for DAAP Music sharing

Title:
Can't change Library name for DAAP Music sharing

Status in The Rhythmbox Music Management Application:
  Fix Released
Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  To reproduce:
Open Rhythmbox, go to Edit Plugins, click on DAAP Music Sharing
Preferences and try to change the Library name.
When I have multiple computers in my network, having the same username I
don't know which library to open because they will all have the same name:
  $FULL-USERNAME's Music.

I know there are functions in the ./plugins/daap/rb-daap-sharing.c
file, but I wasn't able to see if the signal that changes the share
  name gets triggered or not.

  ProblemType: Bug
  DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10
  Package: rhythmbox-plugins 2.90.1~20110908-0ubuntu1

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 893629] Re: LibreOffice Writer: Saving a new file causes crash

2011-12-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
cirrus, anytime you restart or turn on your pc from a shutdown, one should
enable apport via:

If after this, LO crashes and still no crash file, feel free to mark

LibreOffice Writer: Saving a new file causes crash

Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I just updated to Ubuntu Oneiric (11.10).

When I open LibreOffice Writer, create a new file and try to save it,
  the whole application crashes.

To get more information, I started LibreOffice on the shell and got this
errors as an output:

  ak@computer:~$ libreoffice

(soffice:15227): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to retrieve the file info for
`file:///home/ak/test': Fehler beim Untersuchen der Datei /home/ak/test mit

I could reproduce this several times, so I assume there must be a bug.

If I use an already existing file, there is no problem at all.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 894166] Re: No hyphenation in Firefox 8.0

2011-12-01 Thread Gerhard Großmann
I think only with appropriate hyphenation you can use justified text on
webpages, especially in languages as German. Missing hyphenation
sometimes results in catastrophic word spaces. More information about
hyphenation and an English test paragraph on
http://blog.fontdeck.com/post/9037028497/hyphens (doesn’t work in my
Canonical build).

Meanwhile I found another hyphenation test page for English →
http://meyerweb.com/eric/css/tests/css3/show.php?p=hyphens – the third
paragraph should be hyphenated. But there both my friends Windows
Firefox 8.0 and my own one fail.

Maybe this is because on Eric Meyers page there are no vendor prefixes
like moz-hyphens? Does Canonical’s FF support them? If not, my problem
is for now insolvable.

** Summary changed:

- No hyphenation in Firefox 8.0
+ No support for moz-hyphens in Firefox 8.0 (Canonical)

No support for moz-hyphens in Firefox 8.0 (Canonical)

Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  The page http://www.belleslettres.eu/blog/firefox-silbentrennung.php
provides a test field for German hyphenation in Firefox 8.0
(build1-0ubuntu0.11.10.3). On my friend’s Windows PC the hyphenation
works, but it didn’t work on my Ubuntu Laptop (11.10 Oneiric)– there
simply wasn’t any hyphenated word. I tested with a new profile without
  addons etc.

I have filed this bug at
  https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=704885 too, but there was
somebody who got hyphenation with the Mozilla build for Linux x86_64
(also my system). He reasoned the missing hyphenation is caused by the
  Canonical build.

By the way: Does somebody know a testpage for English hyphenation?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 884941] Re: Ctrl-L on desktop puts location on the top of the screen (when using no toolbars)

2011-12-01 Thread Mark Wilkinson
Hmm; it may be a bug that's present in the upstream version, but I can't
seem to reproduce it on Oneiric when logged in to a guest GNOME session
(i.e. one using gnome-shell). It may be that there's some behaviour that
blocks Ctrl-L when nautilus is running under gnome-shell that isn't
working under Unity.

That said, the functionality of being able to open an arbitrary folder
is quite handy so it'd be a loss to lose it completely.

shortcut would bring up a dialogue box in which you could type the
path name of a folder to open, which was very handy. The functionality
still works, but the presentation is obviously incorrect.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 75654] Re: deleted songs listed again when using library watch

2011-12-01 Thread Alexandre Provencio
In addiction, Rhythmbox can't detect songs removed from outside (ex:
file browser) even though living inside the monitored directory. I have
smart playlists based on file location, if I move a file from one
location to another even though still inside the monitored tree, changes
won't be detected. Should I open a new bug report on this?

Ah, ok.

After removing .desktop files and restarting session, problem is solved.

Everything works now except now Epiphany was default app in Nautilus
instead Gedit, but that was easy to change.

I don't know how come I have 4 .desktop files for Gedit, probably
updates, uninstall/install.

Thanks.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 884941] Re: Ctrl-L on desktop puts location on the top of the screen (when using no toolbars)

2011-12-01 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Do you get nautilus to handle the desktop under gnome-shell? They don't
do it upstream by default, are you sure that it doesn't do it but got
hidden behind the gnome-shell panel bar?

Here on a gnome-panel session it displays the bar next to the gnome-
panel bar and shifts the wallpaper, that's no under the bar like in
unity but still seems buggy compared to the small box dialog it opened
before GNOME3

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 884941] Re: Ctrl-L on desktop puts location on the top of the screen (when using no toolbars)

2011-12-01 Thread Mark Wilkinson
Nautilus handling the desktop under gnome-shell seems to be the default
for the guest session, according to gnome-tweak-tool and observed
behaviour. For example, right clicking on the desktop allows you to
create new folders and documents. The Ctrl-L bar is definitely not
appearing: there's nothing taking input focus so typing '/tmpReturn'
doesn't open a file browser, and the wallpaper doesn't shift as you've
observed it does when the Ctrl-L bar does appear.

I don't have gnome-panel installed at the moment so can't compare the
behaviour there.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 896869] Re: Apllect chrashes if left SIdebar is moved to the end of right side

2011-12-01 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 879279] [NEW] Unable to select SSID in Network settings

2011-12-01 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In System settings - Network - Wireless

SSIDs appear in Network Name Pulldown. If I select any of them they
instantly disappear from the Network Name field.

If I select Other... and then the network Network Name, Security and
Passwod are greyed out. Pressing Connect returns me to Wireless tab.

ifconfig shows wlan0 but no inet address
No network status icon appears on Unity status bar

Lenovo W520, Ubuntu 11.10 (upgrade from 11.04) - wireless has worked
since upgrade.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have a dual boot scenario. On sda1 is windows 7 hosted and i partitioned with

After the installation i got this informations:
- If the partition is mounted it shows on the desktop an size of 52 GB (52 GB
Dateisystem)
- If i want to see the proporties with an right-click, it shows me an size of
48 GB (Name: 52 GB Dateisystem, Gesamte Kapazität 48 GB)
- In the system monitor is also the size given with 48,0 GB

So the automatic name is wrong and should the same as the proporties

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 871047] Re: Can no longer set screen to lock when lid closed

2011-12-01 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
** Summary changed:

- Lock Screen at lid closing
+ Can no longer set screen to lock when lid closed

** Description changed:

- Hi, I've just installed the daily version of Oneiric 11.10 in my laptop.
-
Before, with Gnome 2, I've configured it for when I close the laptop lid
it lock the screen demanding the password. It's because sometimes I go
to any places publics or with my friends and I don't want to have the PC
trolled when I leave it for a while.

Now, with Ubuntu 11.10, the gnome-screensaver is deleted, so when I
select the blank option at org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power
lid-close-ac-action with dconf-editor, only it puts the screen black,
but it doesn't block the screen because before the gnome-screensaver was
the responsible of doing it and with Gnome 3 and Unity it dissapears.

It's possible to add and lock-screen option that executes the lock
screen command? Because I think that to close the screen is a better
gesture to make sure that you've locked it more than remember always to
  do Ctrl+Alt+L.

- Thanks!

that screen lock on lid close is compulsory, while bug 871047 says that
it's not even possible.

No GUI method to disable screen lock on lid close event

Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When I close my laptop lid, and open it again, the screensaver is locked. I'd
like to change this behaviour, I've checked the screensaver preferences and
the
only option that mentions locking the screen (Lock screen after) is unset. I
think it makes more sense to lock the screen on lid close dependant on the
setting of Lock screen after option in screensaver preferences
This is on a recently updated hoary, xscreensaver version 4.16-1ubuntu3.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 882720] Re: Library rescan functionality should be more controllable

Title:
Library rescan functionality should be more controllable

Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Tested on:

  1) Ubuntu 11.04 (amd64)
  rhythmbox 0.13.3-0ubuntu6

  2) Ubuntu 11.10 (amd64)
  rhythmbox 2.90.1~20110908-0ubuntu1

  ---

  1) rhythmbox 0.13.3
It has a feature with a little noisy behaviour.

Rhythmbox automatically rescans the library on startup, which makes a
lot of small filesystem operations and takes some time if there are
many files have been moved or deleted from the locations which they
  where imported to library from.

Anyway, with rescan functionality, Rhythmbox is better than Banshee
which ignores any library changes like missing items.

  2) rhythmbox 2.90.1
Library doesn't reacts on items removal automatically, though on play these
removed items are removed from play queue and marked with red marks in the
library.
Unfortunately, there is no Missing files section.

Still better than Banshee which doesn't marks anything removed when
  trying to play it.

  ---

I think, the optimal solution is to to turn off the automatic rescan
by default, make a Rescan library button and get back the Missing
  Files section.

After library rescanning triggered with a Rescan library button (or
trying to play the missing song), the missing items should be moved to
  Missing Files section, where unneeded songs can be manually removed;
on the next rescan (or trying to play the songs from Missing Files
section), songs from Missing Files that have become available,
should be moved back to the library, the others should remain in
  Missing items).

I upgraded from Ubuntu 9.04 to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - the Lucid Lynx and I
had the same problem.

gnome-system-log - Version 2.30.0

This is also work for my system:
Running 'gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/gnome-system-log' fixed the issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 896675] Re: Album tracks out of order when added to play queue from main browser

2011-12-01 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
thanks for the report, not here, my songs are ordered by track number on
the library if i select an album and drag drop it to the Queue it gets
added in the same way i had it on the library. Could you perhaps get a
rhythmbox log? Just run it as: rhythmbox --debug rhythmbox-debug.txt;
reproduce the issue and then please attach that resulting log file to
the report, thanks in advance.

When an album is drag-and-dropped from the main database browser to the play
queue (by dragging the album title from the appropriate window), the album is
added with the tracks sorted by name, not by track number. This may not be as
much a bug as an unconsidered option for a future release - the ability to
determine if a collection of tracks is an album and if so, to sort by track.
An alternative would be the option to specify which field tracks are sorted by
when added to the play queue.
