Quiting those is not enough, the isuee could be in their .so, what you could do is either uninstall the packages or simply rename the /usr/lib/nautilus directory on disk and restart nautilus, if the issue doesn't happen then you will know it comes from one of those .so installed in the nautilus directory, then you can iterate until finding which one -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/890441 Title: nautilus memory leak Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: There are other bug reports with this description, but they are either 3-4 years old, or closed, or invalid, or expired. I'm not doing anything exotic, but after about an hour or two of using my system (not even copying or moving files, or thumbnailing, or...) memory usage in nautilus goes up to 1.4G or so. When I kill this task, re-launch nautilus, it sits happily on just a few hundred meg... and then begins to grow again. It also takes a LONG time to start up, and the system is very unresponsive meanwhile... like 20 seconds. This may be a useful clue? I tried to do a valgrind report, but it makes nautilus so slow as to be unusable -- like 2 minutes to open a folder on the desktop... so I couldn't exactly use it normally to get a good log. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 890441] Re: nautilus memory leak
ok, so trying on an oneiric system there nautilus starts around 16mb and is still using that after 15 minutes, so it's clearly not all systems something else you can try is to change nautilus to not display the background: - run gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons false - then run nautilus --quit - then run nautilus in valgrind, that will open a browser window, let it open for 5 minutes then close it, that should quit nautilus since it's not displaying the background and no view is kept open - then attach the valgrind log to the bug getting a log this way might be better since nautilus will be closed properly there which will let valgrind get a better summary or what memory was freed as it should (if you stop it with --quit or ctrl-C you might prevent some callbacks to run which will change the summary) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/890441 Title: nautilus memory leak Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: There are other bug reports with this description, but they are either 3-4 years old, or closed, or invalid, or expired. Nonetheless, here's a log I did capture. I trust that the data captured by ubuntu-bug will have my library versions, cpu type, RAM info, etc. Please let me know what else I can provide. Thanks! [Desktop-packages] [Bug 894591] Re: Typeahead functionality involving mouse scroll is broken
Thank you for your bug report, can't confirm that there on Oneiric though, it works as it should ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/894591 Title: Typeahead functionality involving mouse scroll is broken Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Description: Ubuntu 11.10 Release: 11.10 nautilus: Installed: 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu3.1 Candidate: 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu3.1 Expected behaviour: - Open the directory that contains files with names starting with a similar character/string in nautilus. Example: abc, file1, file2, file3, xyz. - To select “file3” using typeahead you can either type explicit, unequivocal string (“file3” in this case, as the digit distinguishes file in this directory) or type common part and USE SCROLL TO NAVIGATE THROUGH THE RESULTS (in this case, e.g. “f”, which makes you able to scroll from “file1” to “file3”; “abc” and “xyz” are excluded as they don’t match) -- each scroll down selects next available item, each scroll up selects every previous item; I do not know how to say it more clearly. Actual behaviour: - Open the directory that contains files with names starting with a similar character/string in nautilus. Example: abc, file1, file2, file3, xyz. - Type in “f”. - Scrolling through the results doesn’t work UNLESS you place mouse pointer over the typeahead box. This is not very useful as this box is small and located in a corner. I remember the abovementioned expected behaviour to be an actual behaviour of 9.10 and classic GNOME, from which I turned to oneiric few weeks ago. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 894166] Re: No hyphenation in Firefox 8.0
I think only with appropriate hyphenation you can use justified text on webpages, especially in languages as German. Missing hyphenation sometimes results in catastrophic word spaces. More information about hyphenation and an English test paragraph on http://blog.fontdeck.com/post/9037028497/hyphens (doesn’t work in my Canonical build). Meanwhile I found another hyphenation test page for English → http://meyerweb.com/eric/css/tests/css3/show.php?p=hyphens – the third paragraph should be hyphenated. But there both my friends Windows Firefox 8.0 and my own one fail. Maybe this is because on Eric Meyers page there are no vendor prefixes like moz-hyphens? Does Canonical’s FF support them? If not, my problem is for now insolvable. ** Summary changed: - No hyphenation in Firefox 8.0 + No support for moz-hyphens in Firefox 8.0 (Canonical) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/894166 Title: No support for moz-hyphens in Firefox 8.0 (Canonical) Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: The page http://www.belleslettres.eu/blog/firefox-silbentrennung.php provides a test field for German hyphenation in Firefox 8.0 (build1-0ubuntu0.11.10.3). On my friend’s Windows PC the hyphenation works, but it didn’t work on my Ubuntu Laptop (11.10 Oneiric)– there simply wasn’t any hyphenated word. I tested with a new profile without addons etc. I have filed this bug at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=704885 too, but there was somebody who got hyphenation with the Mozilla build for Linux x86_64 (also my system). He reasoned the missing hyphenation is caused by the Canonical build. By the way: Does somebody know a testpage for English hyphenation? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 884941] Re: Ctrl-L on desktop puts location on the top of the screen (when using no toolbars)
Hmm; it may be a bug that's present in the upstream version, but I can't seem to reproduce it on Oneiric when logged in to a guest GNOME session (i.e. one using gnome-shell). It may be that there's some behaviour that blocks Ctrl-L when nautilus is running under gnome-shell that isn't working under Unity. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 884941] Re: Ctrl-L on desktop puts location on the top of the screen (when using no toolbars)
Nautilus handling the desktop under gnome-shell seems to be the default for the guest session, according to gnome-tweak-tool and observed behaviour. For example, right clicking on the desktop allows you to create new folders and documents. The Ctrl-L bar is definitely not appearing: there's nothing taking input focus so typing '/tmpReturn' doesn't open a file browser, and the wallpaper doesn't shift as you've observed it does when the Ctrl-L bar does appear. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 896869] Re: Apllect chrashes if left SIdebar is moved to the end of right side
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/896869 Title: Apllect chrashes if left SIdebar is moved to the end of right side Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: If A SOng is Playing and the left sidebar is moved to the right side complete the applet crashes ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: rhythmbox 2.90.1~20110908-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-13.22-generic-pae 3.0.6 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-13-generic-pae i686 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu4 Architecture: i386 Date: Sun Nov 27 14:45:23 2011 EcryptfsInUse: Yes ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/rhythmbox InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot - Release i386 (20111012) SourcePackage: rhythmbox UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/896869/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 871047] Re: Can no longer set screen to lock when lid closed
** Summary changed: - Lock Screen at lid closing + Can no longer set screen to lock when lid closed ** Description changed: - Hi, I've just installed the daily version of Oneiric 11.10 in my laptop. - Before, with Gnome 2, I've configured it for when I close the laptop lid it lock the screen demanding the password. It's because sometimes I go to any places publics or with my friends and I don't want to have the PC trolled when I leave it for a while. Now, with Ubuntu 11.10, the gnome-screensaver is deleted, so when I select the blank option at org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power lid-close-ac-action with dconf-editor, only it puts the screen black, but it doesn't block the screen because before the gnome-screensaver was the responsible of doing it and with Gnome 3 and Unity it dissapears. It's possible to add and lock-screen option that executes the lock screen command? Because I think that to close the screen is a better gesture to make sure that you've locked it more than remember always to do Ctrl+Alt+L. - Thanks! + See also bug 888330, the equivalent for blanking the screen. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 882720] Re: Library rescan functionality should be more controllable
Any news about this? ** Changed in: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/882720 Title: Library rescan functionality should be more controllable Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Tested on: 1) Ubuntu 11.04 (amd64) rhythmbox 0.13.3-0ubuntu6 2) Ubuntu 11.10 (amd64) rhythmbox 2.90.1~20110908-0ubuntu1 --- 1) rhythmbox 0.13.3 It has a feature with a little noisy behaviour. Rhythmbox automatically rescans the library on startup, which makes a lot of small filesystem operations and takes some time if there are many files have been moved or deleted from the locations which they where imported to library from. Anyway, with rescan functionality, Rhythmbox is better than Banshee which ignores any library changes like missing items. 2) rhythmbox 2.90.1 Library doesn't reacts on items removal automatically, though on play these removed items are removed from play queue and marked with red marks in the library. Unfortunately, there is no Missing files section. Still better than Banshee which doesn't marks anything removed when trying to play it. --- I think, the optimal solution is to to turn off the automatic rescan by default, make a Rescan library button and get back the Missing Files section. After library rescanning triggered with a Rescan library button (or trying to play the missing song), the missing items should be moved to Missing Files section, where unneeded songs can be manually removed; on the next rescan (or trying to play the songs from Missing Files section), songs from Missing Files that have become available, should be moved back to the library, the others should remain in Missing items). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 896675] Re: Album tracks out of order when added to play queue from main browser
thanks for the report, not here, my songs are ordered by track number on the library if i select an album and drag drop it to the Queue it gets added in the same way i had it on the library.
