  Unable to add new startup applications

Bug description:
  When attempting to add a program to start on boot, it isn't saved when
  it should be.

  To reproduce:
  1. Go to the gear/power menu thing at the top-right
  2. Select Startup Applications (or whatever it actually says in en)
  3. Add a new program
  3.1. Fill out the three boxes with something you want
  4. Note that your program has been added to the list of startup programs
  5. Close that window
  6. Open it again
  7. Note that your program is no longer there
  8. Reboot
  9. Note that your program doesn't start up.

  Expected results:
  7. Your program is there.

  9. Your program starts up.

  Notes:
  * Whether or not you perform steps 6-7, the result of 9 is not affected.

  (1) Right click on Power button icon (top-right on desktop)
  (2) Click System Settings.

  So far, so good.

  (3) Click Details icon

  *** What? Every system setting is a detail! How would anyone know to
  look there for Default Application modification? ***

  (4) Click Default Applications

  I propose that we either (1) Make an icon for Default Applications
  in the main System Settings panel OR (2) do what you've done with
  Startup Applications; place it right there in the power button's
  menu.

  Note: Even if you make an icon especially for default applications, it
  can still open up to the same management window as before (see image
  attachment).

  This bug report is a usability issue. I hoping to make Default
  Applications easier to find for new users.

i encountered the same problem in ubuntu 10.04.4
maybe the following image can help you.
in the logout applet of cairo-dock ,only the option 'log out' and the option
'lock screen' is enabled, all other options are disabled.
but after a relogin, everything is enabled.

Trying to restart the computer from within a unity session causes the
session to log out, instead of actually restarting the computer.

1. Boot up oneiric
2. Log in
3. Click on the Power button obscured by a tiny gear on the top and far right
of the screen
4. Click Shutdown...
5. When asked, Are you sure you want to close all programs and shut down the
computer?, select Restart (it's on the bottom left of the dialog)

Instead of restarting, you will be logged out.

Bug description:
  Global menu in general (not only in Unity) is very unergonomic on
  large screens (see the attached screenshot) because if you have a
  small window somewhere near the low right corner you have to move the
  cursor all the way up to to panel to reach the menu. I understand why
  the global menu was used for the netbook edition (it saves space and
  most windows are maximized), but since Unity is intended to be for the
  desktop edition there should be an option to switch to the traditional
  position of the app menu. It would be welcomed by many desktop users.

  A commonly suggested solution is:
   [ ] Global Menu on
   [ ] Global Menu off
   [ ] Global Menu only for maximized windows
  The default is usually suggested as either the first (on) or last (on only 
for maximized windows).

Looking at the menus shows that ALL submenus are affected (not only VPN
Connections): more networks is also empty.

When that happens, the functionality is also reduced: Connection
information doesn't do anything, Edit Connections doesn't do
anything, nothing works.. I also cannot disconnect from my current WLAN.

Status in “network-manager-applet” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I reported the very same bug 2 or 3 releases ago. As you can see from the 
attached screenshot, the VPN submenu is empty.
  Yet I still can see a VPN connection when editing connections.
