[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1122833] [NEW] Raw color output fails with -h

2013-02-12 Thread Torsten Bronger
Public bug reported:

draw -T -h -o 0 DSC1.ARW

produces a semi-transparent TIFF. What I expect is a non-transparent
TIFF with the quarter area of

draw -T -o 0 DSC1.ARW

I observe this bug in v9.16 and v9.17. In particular, v8.99 is not
affected, though it doesn't support my camera really.

See the example:

I experience exactly the same symptoms as the bug report description
  has.

After some time nm-applet stops reacting to user input and submenu
entries do not populate. This is with latest 12.10 packages.

I noticed that the indicator tries to get the menu but it fails -
dbus-monitor output below:
  method call sender=:1.12 - dest=:1.67 serial=14296

reply_serial=107621
string The IDs supplied '[80799]' do not refer to any menu items we have

When some item is clicked (e.g. disconnect for current wifi AP) the following
happens:
  signal sender=:1.67 - dest=(null destination) serial=107704
path=/com/canonical/Unity/Panel/Service;
interface=com.canonical.Unity.Panel.Service; member=EntryActivated
 string

reply_serial=107705
string The IDs supplied '[80846]' do not refer to any menu items we have

So this looks like like dbus menu is losing the IDs or nm-applet is
using the ids that are no longer valid.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 886975] Re: [Thinkpad R61i/T61] Lenovo sound chip Conexant CX20549 Venice doesn't work correctly.

2013-02-12 Thread David Henningsson
Hi c4pp4,

A while has passed and we fixed the worst click as mentioned in 1).

Meanwhile, a big rewrite of the HDA drivers has progressed and is now
scheduled to reach kernel 3.9. I ran your codec against that code, and
it seems like most of the stuff is fixed:

2) I think the click you mentioned is now fixed, but not sure
4) the master volume range bug is fixed
5) I'm a little confused about this one. It should be fixed in 3.9, but it
should also already have been fixed in 12.10 actually.

You can read more about the rewrite here:
http://voices.canonical.com/david.henningsson/2013/01/18/upcoming-changes-to-the-intel-hda-drivers/
And here's how to test these drivers:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/UpgradingAlsa/DKMS

Title:
[Thinkpad R61i/T61] Lenovo sound chip Conexant CX20549 Venice doesn't
  work correctly.

Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Computer: IBM Lenovo Thinkpad R61i
  Card: HDA Intel
  Sound chip: Conexant CX20549 (Venice)
Device: 00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family)
HD Audio Controller [8086:284b] (rev 03)
   Subsystem: Lenovo ThinkPad T61 [17aa:20ac]
  System: Ubuntu Oneiric 11.10 (desktop-i386)
  Kernel: 3.0.0-12-generic-pae#20-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 7 16:37:17 UTC 2011

  Problems:
  1) Integrated microphone doesn't work at all because the driver uses node
0x14 instead of 0x15 for integrated mic and node 0x12 instead of 0x14 for
external mic.
  2) Sound output is muted in the 0% - unamplified part of the volume
slider and is working in the unamplified - 100% - part only; the driver
doesn't allow amplified part because sound is distorted over 0dB of the PCM
level so there is no need amplified part of the volume slider.

Solution: Attached patch is fixing nodes of integrated and external
microphone and is removing the amplified part of the volume slider.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 946232] Re: [Meta-bug] Missing speaker and/or internal mic port

2013-02-12 Thread Leandro Cioletti
The pulseaudio (1:1.1-0ubuntu15.2) update does not fixed microphone issues
in my case.
I am running updated Ubuntu 12.04.1 - 64 bits in a Sony-Vaio VPCEB23FM.
I checked that pulseaudio (1:1.1-0ubuntu15.2) it was installed, but the
problem with the internal microphone
still there. It was not listed in the input tab on Sound Settings,
for the other hand, it was (poorly) working on skype sound tests.

I also tried to install pavucontrol but it was not possible to fix the
microphone problem
by changing settings with pavucontrol.

My audio device is Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset and
what worked for me it was the workaround pointed out on #32.

Here is the alsainfo

Thanks.

   SRU Justification ===
First, sorry if this bug is a bit messy, but I think it would be even more
messy if I spread the information across several bugs. Here's some explanation:

The long-term fix is already in Quantal, because we backported the
Phantom Jack support into Ubuntu's 3.5 kernel. Together with that
comes a small PulseAudio patch, http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
  audio-dev/pulseaudio/ubuntu.precise/revision/519/debian/patches/0624
-alsa-mixer-Add-Phantom-Jack-support.patch - the reason I want this in
12.04 is to provide a better experience for users running the quantal
kernel on precise, i e, the backport kernel coming with 12.04.2.

In addition to that, while doing an SRU I could just as well add a few
more quirks for affected machines showing up after the previous SRU,
so that is now done in http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audio-
  dev/pulseaudio/ubuntu.precise/revision/520/debian/patches/0625-alsa-
  mixer-Add-a-few-more-machines-to-internal-mic-w.patch

  [Impact]
Several laptops (see above list) are missing mostly internal mics, but
sometimes also speakers in the Sound Settings / PulseAudio. This leads to an
inability to control volume for these devices, and often not being able to use
them at all.

  [Test Case]
  * Have an affected machine
  * Notice that when your mic is unplugged, the internal mic is correctly
shown in the sound settings

  [Regression Potential]
The quirk-style fix only affects the machines above. The long-term fix
affects only users of a newer (quantal or later) kernel.

I have an DELL Inspiron 6400. As it seems ubuntu precise beta1 thinks it
has a digital ouput. In the audio settings it says Play sound through:
  »Digital Output (S/PDIF)«

As you can see there →
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins6400/en/om/specs.htm#wp1054816
  it has no S/PDIF output.

The audio Settings doesn't let me change the mode.
Sometime the system sets the mode to »Digital Stereo (IEC958) Output« but
the drop-down list menu is grayed out so I

2013-02-12 Thread Robert Roth
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed
in the latest stable version of Ubuntu - Quantal Quetzal.

This is a significant bug in Ubuntu. If you need a fix for the bug in
previous versions of Ubuntu, please do steps 1 and 2 of the SRU
Procedure [1] to bring the need to a developer's attention.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1122882] [NEW] Korean font is loaded when keyboard indicator is loaded

2013-02-12 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Public bug reported:

When several keyboards are used, the keyboard indicator is displayed
which has the side-effect of loading a Korean font instead of Ubuntu
(See screenshot attached)

Furthermore, when the show layout window is launched from the indicator
menu, the question mark picto is used in the launcher instead of the
standard keyboard picto.

Loading the Korean font uses 400kB of memory, which is an important loss
on device with tight memory resources.

TEST CASE:
1. Start a guest session
2. Start the keyboard layout panel: gnome-control-center region
3. If your default layout is english add French
4. Close the dialog

Verify that:
1. The keyboard indicator is displayed.
2. The fonts loaded by compiz: grep ttf /proc/$(pidof compiz)/maps contains a
Korean font (Nanum Gothic on a default installation)

ACTUAL RESULT:
- NanumGothic is loaded and used by the show layout dialog

EXPECTED RESULT
- No Korean font is loaded and Ubuntu is used.

Looks like a regression from the fixed Bug #210336. Somebody commented

Didn't know, if I should reopen this bug, or open a new one (since the

Bug description:
Many packages in Ubuntu use the liblcms1 library (source package
lcms). This library is discontinued upstream and replaced by liblcms2.
Due to this bugs in liblcms1 are not fixed any more upstream and
important improvements in color reproduction and safety against
crashes are not done. Therefore we should remove lcms1 and migrate all
  programs using it to lcms2.

Title:
Korean font is loaded when keyboard indicator is loaded

Status in Ubuntu on the Nexus 7:
  New
Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
When several keyboards are used, the keyboard indicator is displayed
which has the side-effect of loading a Korean font instead of Ubuntu
  (See screenshot attached)

Furthermore, when the show layout window is launched from the
indicator menu, the question mark picto is used in the launcher
instead of the standard keyboard picto.

Loading the Korean font uses 400kB of memory, which is an important
loss on device with tight memory resources.

  TEST CASE:
  1. Start a guest session
  2. Start the keyboard layout panel: gnome-control-center region
  3. If your default layout is english add French
  4. Close the dialog

  Verify that:
  1. The keyboard indicator is displayed.
  2. The fonts loaded by compiz: grep ttf /proc/$(pidof compiz)/maps contains a
Korean font (Nanum Gothic on a default installation)

  ACTUAL RESULT:
  - NanumGothic is loaded and used by the show layout dialog

  EXPECTED RESULT
  - No Korean font is loaded and Ubuntu is used.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1122890] [NEW] Timed autologin not working after logout

2013-02-12 Thread Juha Aatrokoski
Public bug reported:

Version 1.2.3-0ubuntu1 of lightdm (in Precise) fixed timed autologin for
the initial startup (see bug #902852), but timed autologin still does
not work after logging out from a session.

It is logical that *immediate* autologin doesn't work after logout, but
the purpose of *timed* autologin is to allow other users a chance to log
in, and to log in a default user if no one does. As such, timed
autologin should work every time the login screen is presented (and
there are no users logged in via lightdm), i.e. also after logging out
from a session, not just the first time lightdm is started. (This is
also how it worked with gdm in Lucid.)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 998276] Re: Keyboard shortcuts not appearing in the main menu under Unity

2013-02-12 Thread John Smith
Attached v2 patch should hopefully fix the problems in comments 9 to 12.
Should be able to enter text on canvas, in spin-boxes and cut/paste in dialogs

Using standard gtk accelerators for menu display only and not to invoke
actual shortcuts.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 902852] Re: Timed autologin feature not working

2013-02-12 Thread Juha Aatrokoski
AllenS: you can try setting autologin-session=XBMC to see if it fixes
the wrong session problem. About the short timeout, I think that the
timeout starts when lightdm starts, and it starts the greeter afterwards
and on slower computers the greeter may not have enough time to get to
presenting the login screen before the timeout is reached.

To let everyone interested know, I filed bug #1122890 about timed
autologin not working after logout from a session. The missing visual
indicator is not critical for me, so I won't be filing a bug about that.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1099792] Re: nautilus info panel obscures list view

2013-02-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker

** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Confirmed

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop
Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1099792

Title:
nautilus info panel obscures list view

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The yellow information box that appears at the bottom of the nautilus
window can obscure the last entry in a list view.

  *Observed Behaviour*

   * Open a folder with several files or folders in it. The /tmp folder usually
has enough files and folders to reproduce this bug.
   * Switch to list view using the view menu, or the shortcut Ctrl-2.
   * Resize the window to make the list longer than the window is high.
   * Select any file.
   * Try to read the filename of the last file displayed in the window.

It is frequently not possible to read the file name or details of the
last file in the folder as the yellow box obscures it. This is
particularly noticable if the file name of the selected file is very
  long.

  *Expected Behaviour*

Since this information box obscures part of the window, it should be
  used only when it will:

   * Not obscure existing information
   * Provides information that is not already available

It happens that the default list view already displays all information
that the yellow box provides. Therefore the yellow box should be
  disabled for list view.

The alternative is to alter the list view to always leave space at the
bottom - which would then reduce the amount of elements that could be
displayed. I have also seen other file browsers that have a thick
border at the bottom. The information is then displayed in that
border. This is much like leaving space at the bottom, and works quite
  well.

  *Further Enhancements*

The yellow box does not display information that could not be found in
other ways. It should be possible to disable the yellow box. Currently
I can find no way to do so.

  *System Information*

Title:
Empathy: No contacts on gtalk: 'status is set to offline'

Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
This problem happens in two computers, whether I use auto-login or not, with
Ubuntu 12.10.
I configured two accounts on the Online Accounts window: Facebook and Google.

My Facebook contacts always appear on Empathy, but gTalk contacts
almost never appear, with the error message status is set to offline
appearing in red at the top of Empathy's main window.

I have to restart Empathy several times until I get lucky and it shows
  my gTalk contacts.

I also try setting my status to Online in various ways: through the
Unity Panel, through Empathy's main-window 'Go Online' button, and
through Empathy's main-window dropdown box. The symptoms are the same
  no matter what I do.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 429665] [NEW] Karmic apps keep crashing on basic_string::assign

2013-02-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Updated my EEE 900 to Karmic. Now Gwibber, Ubuntu Software Store and
perhaps others crash immediately when run with:

wolverian@pupupu:~ (master)$ software-store
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::length_error'
  what():  basic_string::assign
Keskeytetty (core dumped)

Apport notices this, but say it can't report it. Now it comes to me that
I should probably check if that's reported on apport yet.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 882710] Re: [NVIDIA] Monitor(s) black out and session freezes. NVRM: GPU at 0000:01:00.0 has fallen off the bus.

2013-02-12 Thread Stephane Epardaud
I have the same issue. Sometimes my system will lock up several times
per day. I have driver 304.43 with latest Ubuntu. I never had that issue
before the upgrade to the latest Ubuntu.

[NVIDIA] Monitor(s) black out and session freezes. NVRM: GPU at
:01:00.0 has fallen off the bus.

Status in “nvidia-graphics-drivers” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
I run Ubuntu 11.10 on a Dell desktop with a dual use video card that
goes into two monitors. They normally work great and I have no
complaints. When I first upgraded to 11.10, I would occasionally have
both monitors randomly black out, and I'd have to restart the computer
to get them back. Though that problem seemed to go away, and I wrote
it off to package upgrades that fixed a bug.

Then, after upgraded unity and a bunch of other packages today it
started it again. Three times I've had it black out this morning. I
don't know why. Though I often use hotkeys to slide between
workspaces, and one of the blackouts happened during a slide.

  [Next Actions]
  * [tseliot] Raise issue with NVIDIA
  * [Unity Engineering] Evaluate if twinview could be triggering a bug in unity?
  * Attempt to reproduce the bug outside Unity to see if it can be proved to
not be Unity-specific
  * Identify if there's a way to reproduce the bug deliberately

got the following dialog box as illustrated in the attached screenshot. Btw, my

Title:
nautilus info panel obscures list view

Status in Nautilus:
  Unknown
Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
The yellow information box that appears at the bottom of the nautilus
window can obscure the last entry in a list view.

  *Observed Behaviour*

   * Open a folder with several files or folders in it. The /tmp folder usually
has enough files and folders to reproduce this bug.
   * Switch to list view using the view menu, or the shortcut Ctrl-2.
   * Resize the window to make the list longer than the window is high.
   * Select any file.

   * Not obscure existing information

2013-02-12 Thread Topo
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 779754 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/779754

The duplicate status is wrong, as #7 says all is clickable except the
VPN menu (disappear like the screenshot in #1). Restart the network
manager daemon don't fix the problem, only restarting the nm-applet fix
the problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1011988] [NEW] Software Centre downloading issue

2013-02-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I recently purchased the Humble Indie Bundle and downloaded the games through
the Ubuntu Software Centre. Yesterday, while downloading Psychonauts, I
received a crash error message after which the download froze. I tried closing
the Ubuntu Software Centre and reopening it and afterwards the download
appeared to have been cancelled.
Ever since I couldn't download anything from the Ubuntu Software Centre.
Whenever I try to download an app, the software centre claims to be installing
it but it just hangs on Installing for a while and then just cancels it,
meaning, I get the Install button back.

Any ideas?

Unspecified is not a tag but a clue to specify a reason for moderation

Status in Ratings and Reviews server:

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Bug Description:
Under moderations there is a tag called Unspecified currently. After talking
to mpt it turns out that this is not meant to be a tag but a note to the user
to specify a reason.
We need to make it so the user can't send info to moderations if the tag is
set to Unspecified.

  Version:
  Django1.1.1
  Python2.6.5 (r265:79063, Apr 16 2010, 14:15:55) [GCC 4.4.3]
  preflight 0.1

  launchpadlib 1.6.0
  piston0.2.2
  South 0.6

  OS:
  64bit Maverick

  Browser:
  FF 3.6.15

  Problem URL:
  n/a

  Steps To Reproduce:
  1. Open software-center
  2. Select a package and write a review
  3. Once the review shows up in SC mark it inappropriate
  4. Note the Unspecified. Leave it on that and then make a note as to the
issue.

  Expected Result:
This was bought about as to why we had unspecified and other tags, at which
point I was told unspecified is a clue to the user to specify a reason not a
tag to submit on.

With that in mind the review should fail to send if Unspecified is
selected. Maybe we could make the Unspecified a different colour to
help identify this as not being a tag.

Title:
Indicate if an app is translated in the user's locale in the Software
  Centre

Status in Ubuntu Translations:
  Triaged
Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Software Center should indicate whether software is translated for
example by including a small flag icon. This way non-English-speaking
users can see if the application is available in their local language
when it contains a translated package description. Otherwise,
translated package descriptions might mislead the user to believe the
application is available in his/her local language.

  http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/27948/

  See also bug 706571.

Some use cases this would fix:

   a) non-english user clicks on a program name to see more info, sees
the description in English and assumes the program is not translated
and therefore doesn't install it, even though it might be translated
   into his native tongue.

   b) non-english user finds a program with a translated description,
installs it only to find out the program itself is not translated and
is therefore no use to him/her.

   c) user wants to install a music player in his native language. When
searching for music player in the software center 10 hits appear but
the user cannot filter the programs translated into his native tongue
and therefore has to use trial and error.

   d) a one line description (po-app-install data) is translated, but
description (ddtp-ubuntu) is not or vice versa. User is just confused.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 709172] [NEW] current reviews-stats is confusing to users

2013-02-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi,

the current review-stats API is confusing to the user. Because we provide
global stats only the user may see:
- 10 reviews for foo, but only 5 of them are against ubuntu, the other against
random PPAs
- 5 reviews for bar, but none against 10.10 versions of bar, all against 11.04

The result is that in the UI he sees e.g. 10 reviews, but clicking on
the details he only sees some (or none).

Ideally we should only provide stats for the reviews the user can see. This is
a problem of course because
it needs to be both fast on the server and the client and it needs to factor in
multiple origin.

This is really a discuss how we can do it bugreport at this point :)

QA Notes:
Server functionality QA'd with:
1) http://184.82.116.62/reviews/api/1.0/review-stats/ubuntu/natty/ (verify
stats for lots packages, but not 'lightyears')
2) http://184.82.116.62/reviews/api/1.0/review-stats/ubuntu/maverick/ (verify
stats for 7 packages only, including lightyears)
3) http://184.82.116.62/reviews/api/1.0/review-stats/ubuntu/lucid/ (verify no
stats)
4) http://184.82.116.62/reviews/api/1.0/review-stats/ubuntu/any/ (verify lots
of stats, including lightyears)

mvo: can you pls add QA notes when this is qa'able with the USC client?
Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 681471] [NEW] URLs need to be (more) cacheable

2013-02-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When initial discussions for RNR started, we talked about caching of
URLs for reviews etc., and I think it was for that reason that mvo/barry
went with the long urls with the language, distro, series in the URL.

But bug 673948 indicates that we have the following additional
complexities:

1) for reviews of a particular package we'll need to batch the results rather
than returning all the results (note, pagination could also be added to the
urls without too much trouble /en/ubuntu/hardy/+binary/mypackage/page/1/ - so
in this respect it may be worthwhile)
2) for review stats the client will need to request a set of stats based on
what the client wants to display in the UI (ie. user searches for 'game') (eg.
/en/ubuntu/hardy/+review-stats/package_names/foo,bar,blah,url,encoded,of,course/
 - if the client always requests the same number of items in alphabetical
order, we may get a decent cache hit rate?)

While we're there, it would be great to make the templates/tests
independent of the urls (using reverse etc.)

I added again the extra lines in ~/.kde/share/config/nepomukserverrc and
removed the nepomukcontroller.desktop from in the map
/usr/share/autostart/. Shutdown was slow (all nepomuk processes were
still running) and the pop-up stating that an unknown process was still
running appeared again. After this restart the shutdown was OK again
(within a few seconds).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 901876] [NEW] Refreshes the whole window after installing/uninstalling a package

2013-02-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This bug is created from question #177635:

  https://answers.launchpad.net/software-center/+question/177635

The following description is from the corresponding question, and was
submitted by Industrial (tom-wieland).

  https://launchpad.net/~tom-wieland

Since synaptic is no longer installed by default (fine with me), I was
using Software Center to uninstall packages from a clean 11.10 install
that I do not want. It was around 15 packages.

I click on remove from one package, the second, third, continue browsing
and by this time the first and second jobs complete their task. I'm
still browsing through the list for other items and the whole screen
refreshes with a spinner, closes all categories/arrows and actually
reloads the whole window for every item in the queue (so three times)
before I can do anything else. I think this is very weird usability
wise.

I think it would be much better if there was no reloading at all, and if
it would just remove the items that were removed from the list (with a
collapse/rollup motion?). Losing your current progress means you have to
go back to where you were and that gets frustrating after a few times.

I'm comparing this workflow with synaptic where I can just select the
packages I want or don't and apply at the end.

current reviews-stats is confusing to users

Status in Ratings and Reviews server:
  Fix Released
Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Hi,

the current review-stats API is confusing to the user. Because we provide
global stats only the user may see:
  - 10 reviews for foo, but only 5 of them are against ubuntu, the other
against random PPAs
  - 5 reviews for bar, but none against 10.10 versions of bar, all against 11.04

The result is that in the UI he sees e.g. 10 reviews, but clicking on
the details he only sees some (or none).

Ideally we should only provide stats for the reviews the user can see. This
is a problem of course because
it needs to be both fast on the server and the client and it needs to factor
in multiple origin.

This is really a discuss how we can do it bugreport at this point :)

  QA Notes:
  Server functionality QA'd with:
  1) http://184.82.116.62/reviews/api/1.0/review-stats/ubuntu/natty/ (verify
stats for lots packages, but not 'lightyears')
  2) http://184.82.116.62/reviews/api/1.0/review-stats/ubuntu/maverick/ (verify
stats for 7 packages only, including lightyears)
  3) http://184.82.116.62/reviews/api/1.0/review-stats/ubuntu/lucid/ (verify no
stats)
  4) http://184.82.116.62/reviews/api/1.0/review-stats/ubuntu/any/ (verify lots
of stats, including lightyears)

mvo: can you pls add QA notes when this is qa'able with the USC
  client? Thanks!

URLs need to be (more) cacheable

Status in Ratings and Reviews server:
  Fix Released
Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
When initial discussions for RNR started, we talked about caching of
URLs for reviews etc., and I think it was for that reason that
mvo/barry went with the long urls with the language, distro, series in
  the URL.
