[Desktop-packages] [Bug 886975] Re: [Thinkpad R61i/T61] Lenovo sound chip Conexant CX20549 Venice doesn't work correctly.
Hi c4pp4, A while has passed and we fixed the worst click as mentioned in 1). Meanwhile, a big rewrite of the HDA drivers has progressed and is now scheduled to reach kernel 3.9. I ran your codec against that code, and it seems like most of the stuff is fixed: 2) I think the click you mentioned is now fixed, but not sure 4) the master volume range bug is fixed 5) I'm a little confused about this one. It should be fixed in 3.9, but it should also already have been fixed in 12.10 actually. You can read more about the rewrite here: http://voices.canonical.com/david.henningsson/2013/01/18/upcoming-changes-to-the-intel-hda-drivers/ And here's how to test these drivers: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/UpgradingAlsa/DKMS -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/886975 Title: [Thinkpad R61i/T61] Lenovo sound chip Conexant CX20549 Venice doesn't work correctly. Solution: Attached patch is fixing nodes of integrated and external microphone and is removing the amplified part of the volume slider. --- AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 946232] Re: [Meta-bug] Missing speaker and/or internal mic port
The pulseaudio (1:1.1-0ubuntu15.2) update does not fixed microphone issues in my case. I am running updated Ubuntu 12.04.1 - 64 bits in a Sony-Vaio VPCEB23FM. I checked that pulseaudio (1:1.1-0ubuntu15.2) it was installed, but the problem with the internal microphone still there. It was not listed in the input tab on Sound Settings, for the other hand, it was (poorly) working on skype sound tests. I also tried to install pavucontrol but it was not possible to fix the microphone problem by changing settings with pavucontrol. My audio device is Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset and what worked for me it was the workaround pointed out on #32. Here is the alsainfo http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=aca468e30d3d26d52eb6ed45547d9c8c7a2815ae Thanks. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/946232 Title: [Meta-bug] Missing speaker and/or internal mic port Status in “pulseaudio” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “pulseaudio” source package in Precise: Fix Released Bug description: Read me first If you're suffering from one of the following problems: 1) In the sound settings dialog, when you plug your headphones into the designated 3.5 mm jack, there is a Headphones device correctly shown, but when you unplug it, there is no Speaker device shown, even though you have internal speakers on your computer. 2) In the sound settings dialog, when you plug your external microphone into the designated 3.5 mm jack, there is a Microphone (or similar) device correctly shown, but when you unplug it, there is no Internal Mic device shown, even though you have an internal mic on your computer. Here's some explanation: The long-term fix is already in Quantal, because we backported the Phantom Jack support into Ubuntu's 3.5 kernel. Together with that comes a small PulseAudio patch, http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu- audio-dev/pulseaudio/ubuntu.precise/revision/519/debian/patches/0624 -alsa-mixer-Add-Phantom-Jack-support.patch - the reason I want this in 12.04 is to provide a better experience for users running the quantal kernel on precise, i e, the backport kernel coming with 12.04.2. In addition to that, while doing an SRU I could just as well add a few more quirks for affected machines showing up after the previous SRU, so that is now done in http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audio- dev/pulseaudio/ubuntu.precise/revision/520/debian/patches/0625-alsa- mixer-Add-a-few-more-machines-to-internal-mic-w.patch [Impact] Several laptops (see above list) are missing mostly internal mics, but sometimes also speakers in the Sound Settings / PulseAudio. This leads to an inability to control volume for these devices, and often not being able to use them at all. [Test Case] * Have an affected machine * Notice that when your mic is unplugged, the internal mic is correctly shown in the sound settings [Regression Potential] The quirk-style fix only affects the machines above. The long-term fix affects only users of a newer (quantal or later) kernel. I have an DELL Inspiron 6400. As it seems ubuntu precise beta1 thinks it has a digital ouput. In the audio settings it says Play sound through: »Digital Output (S/PDIF)« As you can see there → http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins6400/en/om/specs.htm#wp1054816 it has no S/PDIF output. The audio Settings doesn't let me change the mode. Sometime the system sets the mode to »Digital Stereo (IEC958) Output« but the drop-down list menu is grayed out so I

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1122890] [NEW] Timed autologin not working after logout
Public bug reported: Version 1.2.3-0ubuntu1 of lightdm (in Precise) fixed timed autologin for the initial startup (see bug #902852), but timed autologin still does not work after logging out from a session. It is logical that *immediate* autologin doesn't work after logout, but the purpose of *timed* autologin is to allow other users a chance to log in, and to log in a default user if no one does. As such, timed autologin should work every time the login screen is presented (and there are no users logged in via lightdm), i.e. also after logging out from a session, not just the first time lightdm is started. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 902852] Re: Timed autologin feature not working
AllenS: you can try setting autologin-session=XBMC to see if it fixes the wrong session problem. About the short timeout, I think that the timeout starts when lightdm starts, and it starts the greeter afterwards and on slower computers the greeter may not have enough time to get to presenting the login screen before the timeout is reached. To let everyone interested know, I filed bug #1122890 about timed autologin not working after logout from a session. The missing visual indicator is not critical for me, so I won't be filing a bug about that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to lightdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/902852 Title: Timed autologin feature not working Status in Light Display Manager: Fix Released Status in Unity Greeter: Fix Released Status in “lightdm” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “unity-greeter” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “lightdm” source package in Precise: Fix Released Status in “unity-greeter” source package in Precise: Fix Released Status in “lightdm” source package in Quantal: Fix Released Status in “unity-greeter” source package in Quantal: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] Not able to set an automatic login with a timeout on Ubuntu 12.04.1 [Test Case] 1. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1099792] Re: nautilus info panel obscures list view
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1099792 Title: nautilus info panel obscures list view Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The yellow information box that appears at the bottom of the nautilus window can obscure the last entry in a list view. *Observed Behaviour* * Open a folder with several files or folders in it. The /tmp folder usually has enough files and folders to reproduce this bug. * Switch to list view using the view menu, or the shortcut Ctrl-2. * Resize the window to make the list longer than the window is high. * Select any file. * Try to read the filename of the last file displayed in the window. It is frequently not possible to read the file name or details of the last file in the folder as the yellow box obscures it. This is particularly noticable if the file name of the selected file is very long. *Expected Behaviour* Since this information box obscures part of the window, it should be used only when it will: * Not obscure existing information * Provides information that is not already available It happens that the default list view already displays all information that the yellow box provides. Therefore the yellow box should be disabled for list view. The alternative is to alter the list view to always leave space at the bottom - which would then reduce the amount of elements that could be displayed. I have also seen other file browsers that have a thick border at the bottom. The information is then displayed in that border. This is much like leaving space at the bottom, and works quite well. *Further Enhancements* The yellow box does not display information that could not be found in other ways. It should be possible to disable the yellow box. Currently I can find no way to do so. *System Information* Description:Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS Release:12.04 nautilus: Installed: 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu5 Candidate: 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu6 Version table: 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu6 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-updates/main amd64 Packages *** 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu5 0 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:3.4.1-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1099792/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

*System Information* Description:Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS Release:12.04 nautilus: Installed: 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu5 Candidate: 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu6 Version table: 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu6 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-updates/main amd64 Packages *** 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu5 0 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:3.4.1-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/1099792/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

This way non-English-speaking users can see if the application is available in their local language when it contains a translated package description. Otherwise, translated package descriptions might mislead the user to believe the application is available in his/her local language. http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/27948/ See also bug 706571. Some use cases this would fix: a) non-english user clicks on a program name to see more info, sees the description in English and assumes the program is not translated and therefore doesn't install it, even though it might be translated into his native tongue. b) non-english user finds a program with a translated description, installs it only to find out the program itself is not translated and is therefore no use to him/her. c) user wants to install a music player in his native language. When searching for music player in the software center 10 hits appear but the user cannot filter the programs translated into his native tongue and therefore has to use trial and error. d) a one line description (po-app-install data) is translated, but description (ddtp-ubuntu) is not or vice versa. Because we provide global stats only the user may see: - 10 reviews for foo, but only 5 of them are against ubuntu, the other against random PPAs - 5 reviews for bar, but none against 10.10 versions of bar, all against 11.04 The result is that in the UI he sees e.g. 10 reviews, but clicking on the details he only sees some (or none). Ideally we should only provide stats for the reviews the user can see. This is a problem of course because it needs to be both fast on the server and the client and it needs to factor in multiple origin. This is really a discuss how we can do it bugreport at this point :) QA Notes: Server functionality QA'd with: 1) http://184.82.116.62/reviews/api/1.0/review-stats/ubuntu/natty/ (verify stats for lots packages, but not 'lightyears') 2) http://184.82.116.62/reviews/api/1.0/review-stats/ubuntu/maverick/ (verify stats for 7 packages only, including lightyears) 3) http://184.82.116.62/reviews/api/1.0/review-stats/ubuntu/lucid/ (verify no stats) 4) http://184.82.116.62/reviews/api/1.0/review-stats/ubuntu/any/ (verify lots of stats, including lightyears) mvo: can you pls add QA notes when this is qa'able with the USC client? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 681471] [NEW] URLs need to be (more) cacheable
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When initial discussions for RNR started, we talked about caching of URLs for reviews etc., and I think it was for that reason that mvo/barry went with the long urls with the language, distro, series in the URL. But bug 673948 indicates that we have the following additional complexities: 1) for reviews of a particular package we'll need to batch the results rather than returning all the results (note, pagination could also be added to the urls without too much trouble /en/ubuntu/hardy/+binary/mypackage/page/1/ - so in this respect it may be worthwhile) 2) for review stats the client will need to request a set of stats based on what the client wants to display in the UI (ie. user searches for 'game') (eg. /en/ubuntu/hardy/+review-stats/package_names/foo,bar,blah,url,encoded,of,course/ - if the client always requests the same number of items in alphabetical order, we may get a decent cache hit rate?) While we're there, it would be great to make the templates/tests independent of the urls (using reverse etc.) ** Affects: rnr-server Importance: Undecided Assignee: Michael Nelson (michael.nelson) Status: Fix Released ** Affects: software-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- URLs need to be (more) cacheable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/681471 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

You have been subscribed to a public bug: This bug is created from question #177635: https://answers.launchpad.net/software-center/+question/177635 The following description is from the corresponding question, and was submitted by Industrial (tom-wieland). https://launchpad.net/~tom-wieland Since synaptic is no longer installed by default (fine with me), I was using Software Center to uninstall packages from a clean 11.10 install that I do not want. It was around 15 packages. I click on remove from one package, the second, third, continue browsing and by this time the first and second jobs complete their task. I'm still browsing through the list for other items and the whole screen refreshes with a spinner, closes all categories/arrows and actually reloads the whole window for every item in the queue (so three times) before I can do anything else. I think this is very weird usability wise. I think it would be much better if there was no reloading at all, and if it would just remove the items that were removed from the list (with a collapse/rollup motion?). Losing your current progress means you have to go back to where you were and that gets frustrating after a few times. I'm comparing this workflow with synaptic where I can just select the packages I want or don't and apply at the end. ** Affects: software-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Refreshes the whole window after installing/uninstalling a package https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/901876 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Failed to send review: There is an issue with the server please try again latter Version: Django 1.1.1 Python 2.6.5 (r265:79063, Apr 16 2010, 14:15:55) [GCC 4.4.3] preflight 0.1 rnr-server 11.01 openid 2.2.1 launchpadlib1.6.0 piston 0.2.2 South 0.6 OS: 64bit Maverick Browser: in built python webkit Problem URL: n/a Steps To Reproduce: 1. Send a review for gedit 2. Try to send another review for gedit 3. Change the run_testing. script to a host that doesn't exist for rnr and send a review on any app. Expected Result: As an end user I expect to be notified as to why I can't send my review, or for server outages to be asked to send it later. This maybe an issue in conjunction with Software Center, but I think should be based on key words in oops reports locally probably. ** Affects: rnr-server Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: software-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Aaron Peachey (aaronp) Status: Confirmed ** Tags: client-server -- Errors should be clearer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/744197 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 709172] Re: current reviews-stats is confusing to users
** Project changed: software-center = software-center (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/709172 Title: current reviews-stats is confusing to users Status in Ratings and Reviews server: Fix Released Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Hi, the current review-stats API is confusing to the user. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 699671] [NEW] Does not update soon enough after a rating/review is submitted
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Bug Description: When I enter a new review on a previously unreviewed application, after submission the rating does not update and neither does the unreviewed text of the review. OS: Ubuntu Maverick Steps To Reproduce: 1. Find an application that does not have a review then proceed to write a review, select a rating rating value and submit 2. After submitting note that the SC top view of the applications is unchanged and the text Be the first to review it is still displayed Expected Result: Expect that the value of the rating would be updated and the Be the first to review it would change to something else. ** Affects: software-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Does not update soon enough after a rating/review is submitted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/699671 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 687266] Re: Add 'Open' menu entry Ubuntu Software Center for handling of local .debs
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users. ** Changed in: software-center (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/687266 Title: Add 'Open' menu entry Ubuntu Software Center for handling of local .debs Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: The Ubuntu Software Center replaces Gdebi in 10.10 Maverick Meerkat, however the option to open deb files from within the user interface appears to be absent. I propose adding an Open or Open Package or something similar and intuitive to, at least, the File menu. I have linked this to a question that I feel shows clearly how confusing this is for users. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 681471] Re: URLs need to be (more) cacheable
** Project changed: software-center = software-center (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/681471 Title: URLs need to be (more) cacheable Status in Ratings and Reviews server: Fix Released Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: When initial discussions for RNR started, we talked about caching of URLs for reviews etc., and I think it was for that reason that mvo/barry went with the long urls with the language, distro, series in the URL. /en/ubuntu/hardy/+review-stats/package_names/foo,bar,blah,url,encoded,of,course/ - if the client always requests the same number of items in alphabetical order, we may get a decent cache hit rate?) While we're there, it would be great to make the templates/tests independent of the urls (using reverse etc.) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/rnr-server/+bug/681471/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
