[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1474003] Re: Firefox 39 keeps crashing
@Matt: Thanks. @Chris: Sorry for not mentioning the pepperflash plugin. It wasn't my intention to let you work hours for no reason. On my notebook Firefox 39 with the same plugins/extensions run fine. I only have this problem my workstation at home. The only difference is that the notebook uses onboard Intel graphics and the workstation Nvidia propritary drivers. With my 14.04 workstation with Xcfe 4.10, two AMD cards with propritary driver and four monitors connected there's also no problem. Btw. 11.2.* may be still supported and gets security updates, but why shouln't we enjoy the much much better performance of the newer flash versions.. So you think it's a pepperflash bug? I'll provide a gdb logfile from my workstation at home this evening, when I find the time for it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1474003 Title: Firefox 39 keeps crashing Status in Mozilla Firefox: Confirmed Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Firefox 39 keeps crashing after update from Firefox 38. I googled for the freshplayer Bug, but only found https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1071421 which suggest, that Firefox 40 developer doesn't crash with freshplayer. After downloading I copied all my profile data into the dev-profile, started FF40 and it crashed. Created a new profile without any data import - Firefox 40 crashed. Downgraded to Flash 11.2 from the official repo - Firefox 40 crashed. Tried Firefox 39 from the repo with 11.2 from the repo - Firefox 39 crashed! So this is a Firefox bug, because it exists since the update to 39 from the official Ubuntu 14.04 repos. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1474003] Re: Firefox 39 keeps crashing
No, not all Ubuntu 14.04 users are using that, and Flash Player 11.2 currently *is* supported on Linux (it's still receiving security updates). Why did nobody care to mention this when I asked Have you installed any third party software at all? in comment 3? I've wasted a significant amount of time this week trying to reproduce this crash. ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Critical = Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1474003 Title: Firefox 39 keeps crashing Status in Mozilla Firefox: Confirmed Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Firefox 39 keeps crashing after update from Firefox 38. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 713551] Re: Xorg freeze; system locks and accepts no input, keyboard lights go out when key is touched
** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/713551 Title: Xorg freeze; system locks and accepts no input, keyboard lights go out when key is touched Status in MythTV: New Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Binary package hint: xorg I have a rather old machine running a MythTV backend using a WinTV NOVA T USB2 (93000 Rev B8A2) and it seems that randomly the system will lock up completely. I have done my best to work out if the freeze occurs when recording or performing some function of the mythtv-backend but based on the logs it seems that it can occur during a recording, during a database update or when there is no activity at all. I do have BOINC installed and running but disabling that so it does not run at startup didn't seem to stop the problem; as the freeze occurs randomly every few days I had to wait about a week but the system did lock up without BOINC running at all. My next fiddle was to change the priority of the mythtvbackend process to be -3; this seemed to reduce the frequency of the freeze occurring but it may have been psychological as the occurance rate is so drawn out anyway. One thing which triggered a freeze was using the ubuntu-bug program, before the report that I am using to make this bug entry the system froze while ubuntu-bug was off collecting information about the problem. Again the mythtvbackend was running so I cannot discount this just being coincidence. Another symptom, which may just be how the thing works, is that the NOVA T USB2 strays in warm mode during the crash and if I use the PC's reset button to restart the system. When the system comes up like this the NOVA T is unresponsive and the red light on the from of it remains lit. If I power down the machine or pull the USB cord out from the NOVA T then plug it back in after several seconds while the bios boot splash screen is going then the red LED extinguishes and the device works fine once Ubuntu has booted. This is all a little scattered and probably unhelpful but I have tried to hunt down answers to this problem myself and have run out of ideas what to do next. Please do let me know if there are any further diagnostics that may be helpful. lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS Release: 10.04 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: xorg 1:7.5+5ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-28.55-generic 2.6.32.27+drm33.12 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-28-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Architecture: i386 CheckboxSubmission: 5d0602330b5d44cd5ded7b4846756bb0 CheckboxSystem: daed2f3d6643b4a84b4520a2427f8c2b Date: Sat Feb 5 08:45:59 2011 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala - Release i386 (20091028.5) ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-28-generic root=UUID=f8cbb2f7-5b7c-46db-94bc-1802d312a175 ro quiet splash ProcEnviron: LANG=en_GB.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: xorg Symptom: display Title: Xorg freeze dmi.bios.date: 08/16/2004 dmi.bios.vendor: Phoenix Technologies, LTD dmi.bios.version: 6.00 PG dmi.board.name: MS-6570E dmi.board.vendor: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnPhoenixTechnologies,LTD:bvr6.00PG:bd08/16/2004:svn:pn:pvr:rvnMICRO-STARINTERNATIONALCO.,LTD:rnMS-6570E:rvr:cvn:ct3:cvr: system: distro: Ubuntu codename: lucid architecture: i686 kernel: 2.6.32-28-generic --- Architecture: i386 CheckboxSubmission: 5d0602330b5d44cd5ded7b4846756bb0 CheckboxSystem: daed2f3d6643b4a84b4520a2427f8c2b CurrentDmesg: [ 26.607216] agpgart-nvidia :00:00.0: AGP 3.0 bridge [ 26.607241] agpgart-nvidia :00:00.0: putting AGP V3 device into 8x mode [ 26.607326] nvidia :01:00.0: putting AGP V3 device into 8x mode [ 29.232041] eth0: no IPv6 routers present [ 104.758599] ondemand governor failed, too long transition latency of HW, fallback to performance governor DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala - Release i386 (20091028.5) NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Package: nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 (not installed) ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-28-generic root=UUID=f8cbb2f7-5b7c-46db-94bc-1802d312a175 ro quiet splash ProcEnviron: LANG=en_GB.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-28.55-generic 2.6.32.27+drm33.12 Tags: lucid lucid Uname: Linux 2.6.32-28-generic i686 UserGroups: adm admin cdrom dialout lpadmin mythtv plugdev sambashare dmi.bios.date: 08/16/2004 dmi.bios.vendor: Phoenix Technologies, LTD dmi.bios.version: 6.00 PG dmi.board.name: MS-6570E

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1449794] [NEW] Week day and Date Month not working on menu bar on upgrade to 14.10
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I recently upgraded from 12.04 to 14.10 (had to first upgrade to a prior 14.?? version first), and then later on to 15.04 (see below). On the far right-side of the top bar of the graphical screen, I previously had displayed the date time, weekday, and date/month (without clicking on it and it displaying the full calendar). With the upgrade most of that is now gone and I can only see the time on the menu bar. If I go into System Settings -- Time Date -- Clock, I see that in the In the clock, show: grouping of properties Weekday and Date and month are unchecked. Towards the top the Show a clock in the menu bar is checked, and I also have 12-hour time checked. I want the Weekday and Date and month checked so that they will show on the menu bar, but when I check either or both of them, the clock goes away right then -- that is, it doesn't show the time that it was showing just moments ago, nor does it display anything about the date or time. As soon as I uncheck both Weekday and Date and month the time will show right back up, with no delay. I have updated/upgraded/reinstalled indicator-datetime, removed it and installed it again, dpkg-reconfigure the package, each time doing a killall unity-panel-service to restart the service, and even rebooted some times. Nothing seems to help -- If one of those 2 settings (or both) are checked all date/time settings go away on the menu bar. The above is for my regular login account. I created a Guest Session, of which it creates a temporary login in /tmp, and saw that it deleted it when I logged out of it. It did the same as my normal log ID did -- that is, only the time showed up on the menu bar, and when I went to clock settings and changed the Weekday / Date Month settings, the clock disappeared. I did a fresh install of ubuntu 14.10 on another machine after I did this upgrade. The fresh install was on a Win computer that I resized the Win partition on. It does the same thing as the upgrade I talked about above. I first posed the above as a question, and no one was able to help me, and they said I probably should report a bug, but I might want to wait until 15.04 was released and I upgraded. I have now upgraded to 15.04 on both of my computers, and they still do the same thing. I have encountered another problem with the Time Date Settings. I have my location set up as Chicago. I noticed that when you go into the Clock tab, you can set up additional Locations. I set up an additional location for UTC. Both of these times display when you click on the clock on the top menu bar and it pops up the Calendar. They display at the bottom. It works fine for most of the time. UTC is (now) 5 hours ahead of Chicago time. When Chicago time reads 18:59 UTC reads 23.59. Chicago clicks over to 19:00 and UTC clicks over to the next day, the UTC time then disappears. I take it that it disappears until Chicago time clicks over to the next day, so that Chicago and UTC are then on the same day again. ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bot-comment -- Week day and Date Month not working on menu bar on upgrade to 14.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1449794 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Oh well. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1307144 Title: 'unredirect fullscreen windows' causes tearing Status in compiz package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Ubuntu release: 14.04 Installed compiz version: 1:0.9.11+14.04.20140409-0ubuntu1 The option 'unredirect fullscreen windows', which is enabled by default in Compiz, causes tearing in games and other fullscreen OpenGL applications, even with 'sync to vblank' options enabled in ccsm, in the GPU settings and in the game. With this option disabled, VSync works as fine as should with 'unredirected fullscreen windows' enabled and there is no tearing (but this causes performance issues and the Unity panel shadow on top of the application). Tested with: - ASUS NVIDIA GTX 650-E-1GD5 with NVIDIA proprietary driver 331.38 (tested) (nvidia-331) - the same graphics card with NVIDIA proprietary driver 331.38 (nvidia-331-updates) - the same graphics card with Nouveau open source driver (xserver-xorg-video-nouveau) - Intel HD 4000 iGPU with default open source drivers *** NOTE TO PEOPLE REPORTING SIMILAR BUGS *** This bug is about unredirected fullscreen windows. If you see menu bars, the Unity Panel, Indicators, a menu bar, a window title, or any other decorations you are not running in unredirected fullscreen mode and you are not experiencing this bug. A fullscreen window has content that occupies the entire screen, no borders, no menu bars, no Unity elements. An unredirected window is a situation in which the application renders directly to the screen, without going through a compositor (such as Compiz). The code in src/devices/wwan/nm-modem-ofono.c needs some optimization. Currently, the function ofono_read_contexts() is triggered when the modem becoming enabled, which happens when the three private boolean flags modem_online, gprs_powered, and gprs_attached are all TRUE, or when a new context is detected via a 'ContextAdded' signal sent by ofono's ConnectionManager interface. This function in turn, synchronously reads ( with a 2s timeout ) the ConnectionManager's 'SubscriberIdentity' property ( aka 'IMSI' ), and then calls the DBus method com.canonical.NMOfono.ReadImsiContexts, which triggers the ofono plugin to re-read the contexts directly from ofono's gprs settings file ( found in /var/lib/ofono/IMSI/ ). This could be optimized by instead having NM read the IMSI whenever the ConnectionManager's 'Powered' property is set, caching the value, and watching for changes to the 'SubscriberIdentity'. Also it's curious that the contexts aren't re-read when a 'ContextRemoved' signal is received. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1397142] Re: Sony SRS-BTM8 play/pause key not fully effective in Rhythmbox or Banshee
+1 here, mine is a Philips SHB7150, and the problem was already present at least in 14.10, maybe earlier. Reason I'm commenting though: playing around with xev, it seems to take some black magic to predict whether I'll get XF86AudioPlay or XF86AudioPause. - If no app is playing, it's always XF86AudioPlay, regardless what combination of apps is running. - If rhythmbox is playing, it's XF86AudioPause. - If gmusicbrowser, mpv, or vlc is playing, it alternates between the two (but neither app responds to it regardless of state and event). - And mplayer probably doesn't register itself with whatever it is, since it always gets XF86AudioPlay. I also found that if vlc or mpv is focused, it does play when it's paused and I press the button; when it's playing, it will only pause every other press (thinking of the xev experiment above, I guess when the generated keysym is XF86AudioPause). The same is not true of gmusicbrowser. As for mplayer, if it's focused it responds exactly right. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1397142 Title: Sony SRS-BTM8 play/pause key not fully effective in Rhythmbox or Banshee Status in unity-settings-daemon package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I have a Sony SRS-BTM8 Bluetooth speaker, and its audio side works fairly well with Ubuntu. It also has a play/pause button and that doesn't work so well. I think the problem lies in unity-settings- daemon. To demonstrate that the Bluetooth side is working, if I switch to a text console and run evtest /dev/input/event9, then when pressing the button I get events for KEY_PLAYCD if the speaker is not playing anything, and alternating KEY_PAUSECD and KEY_PLAYCD if it is playing something. However, within the Unity desktop I find that if I'm running Banshee or Rhythmbox then pressing the button successfully pauses the music, but doesn't start it playing again. If I run xev and give it the keyboard focus while testing this (so xev sees all ungrabbed keystrokes) then it sees only a KeyRelease event for XF86AudioPause, but both KeyPress and KeyRelease events for XF86AudioPlay. I've attached the full output from xev. ** Branch linked: lp:~phablet-team/network-manager/lp1445080-wily -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1440917 Title: ofono read_contexts code needs some re-work Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu RTM: Fix Released Bug description: This bug is bring reported as of network-manager version 0.9.10.0-4ubuntu13 ( latest in vivid at bug filing time ). It's basically identical, but it contains 3 extra instructions that are missing from the broken build. 0xf57fe991 +1729: mov0xa0(%ebp),%edx 0xf57fe997 +1735: mov0x84(%esp),%esi // %esi now points to |pn| 0xf57fe99e +1742: add$0x18,%edx 0xf57fe9a1 +1745: cmpl $0xfe,0x28(%esp) // Compare |hops| with 254 (FREE_LEVEL - 1) 0xf57fe9a9 +1753: mov%al,0x2(%esi) // Calls pn-SetOp(op) 0xf57fe9ac +1756: mov0x34(%esp),%eax // %eax now contains |slot| 0xf57fe9b0 +1760: ja 0xf57fea10 js::frontend::BytecodeEmitter::tryConvertFreeName(js::frontend::ParseNode*)+1856 // Jump if |hops| 254 0xf57fe9b2 +1762: cmp$0xff,%eax // Compare |slot| with 0xff 0xf57fe9b7 +1767: ja 0xf57fe9f9 js::frontend::BytecodeEmitter::tryConvertFreeName(js::frontend::ParseNode*)+1833 // Jump if |slot| 0xff 0xf57fe9b9 +1769: mov0x84(%esp),%esi // %esi now points to |pn| 0xf57fe9c0 +1776: shl$0x8,%eax // Left shift new |slot| value by 8-bits // These next 3 instructions are missing in the broken build 0xf57fe9c3 +1779: mov$0x1,%edi 0xf57fe9c8 +1784: movzbl 0x28(%esp),%edx // %edx now contains |hops| 0xf57fe9cd +1789: mov%dl,0x20(%esi) // Save |hops| in to |level_| in pn-pn_u.name.cookie 0xf57fe9d0 +1792: mov%eax,%edx // %edx now contains |slot| 0xf57fe9d2 +1794: movzbl 0x20(%esi),%eax // Load |level_| from pn-pn_u.name.cookie in to %eax 0xf57fe9d6 +1798: or %edx,%eax // %eax now contains the bitwise-OR of |level_| and new |slot| value 0xf57fe9d8 +1800: mov%eax,0x20(%esi) // Save the new values to |level_| and |slot_| in pn-pn_u.name.cookie -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1471949 Title: Firefox 39 crashes on startup or within a few seconds on Precise/x86 Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in firefox source package in Precise: Triaged Bug description: This is blocking publication of Firefox 39. The build for x86 on 12.04 currently crashes on startup, or within a few seconds of startup. It's basically unusable. An example crash report is: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/d0d97dbb-f6bc- 4e4d-88ff-e5fff2150702. Unfortunately, despite the warning in the PPA description for https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mozilla-security/+archive/ubuntu/ppa, ordinary users are still installing pre-release packages from it. It works on all other releases and on Precise/x86-64. I did test Firefox 39 with this toolchain when it was still the nightly version whilst preparing the switch to GCC 4.8, and it worked fine.
