[Desktop-packages] [Bug 141472] Re: Window titles are misaligned in RTL languanges
** No longer affects: compiz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/141472 Title: Window titles are misaligned in RTL languanges Status in compiz package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Binary package hint: compiz-core Ubuntu Gutsy (also in previous version), xgl/fglrx. When opening a window with a title text in RTL language, like Arabic or Hebrew, the title text is shown with a huge offset to the right. In most cases, it means that no text will be shown on the title bar at all. If the text is very long, I can see parts of it on the right hand corner - and somewhat beyond it, outside the borders of the window. This is not a problem with a specific decoration manager, as it appears both on gtk-decorator and emerald and was there with beryl and heliodor as well. This problem affects other compiz plugins which use the title text, such as the various app switchers: the rtl text is missing there as well. I reported it in the past on the Beryl bugzilla, but they had replied that it wasn't their problem. If this is a Gnome issue, where should I report it? What part of Gnome is the culprit? In metacity there is no problem, and the RTL titles are shown correctly just like LTR titles. I have four workspaces and wanted to show them in two rows. All that happens is that the workspace icons/previews in the switcher become half as tall and the bottom is left empty. They are still all side-by-side. I am using the "Normal" desktop/compiz effects. I upgraded from feisty, so that might be a consideration. It certainly explains why I have four workspaces, since the switcher, at least in "normal" mode doesn't allow you to select how many workspaces you'd like, only if it should show the current workspace or all of them in multiple rows. When I go back to using no visual effects, I am able to select how many workspaces I'd like and change the workspaces names (and choose whether to show those names in the switcher.) So it seems clear the problem is related to the visual effects, unless the config from feisty somehow messes up the tool's preferences when visual effects are used. Instead, whenever I make one of the rather common mistakes that cause an alert sound (such as hitting backspace one too many times), there's a very loud, and very annoying, beep from the internal speaker. If I go to system->preferences->sound, where I would expect to disable the annoying beep, I find that the System Beep tab is now gone. I agree with this decision - this is 2008, we should never be using the internal speaker for anything. Especially not shutdown noises, where it's not even obvious how to disable it. After googling, however, I found that many others have this problem, and strangely enough the solution is to click "disable alert sounds" even though the alert sound itself never plays. So, there are two bugs here then: 1) The nice alert sound isn't used at all. I've never heard it in Ubuntu, only annoying PC speaker beeps. 2) We use the PC speaker instead of the alert sound, and disabling the PC speaker is difficult since we no longer have the system beep tab. Steps to reproduce: 1. Tax your system's resources (play some music, a video, etc.) 2. Enter Expo mode 3. Right click on a workspace other than the currently active one, to change to it What should happen: Your desktop should change to the workspace you selected What actually happens: Your desktop appears to zoom into the correct workspace, but remains on the active workspace. Note: If you first left click on the workspace, and wait a second for it to become selected, this workspace will be selected on right click. As far as I can tell, this is what is happening: When you right click on a work space, compiz does this: 1. Change the selected workspace to the one you clicked; 2. Leave expo mode, entering the selected work space. However, when your system is under some strain (on my relatively weak system, this can be as little as listening to music and browsing the web at the same time), there is delay before the clicked workspace becomes selected. Thus, compiz moves on to step 2 before the selected workspace is actually changed. Does this make sense? I use compiz 1.0.8.2-0ubuntu8.1 on Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty with the "Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller" (integrated Intel graphics). Thank you for taking the time to report this bug. The compiz program that we currently use in Ubuntu is a C++ re-write of the original compiz and was announced the 4th July 2010. Therefore, the bugs that were reported before that date, will be marked as "Won't Fix" as they probably exist in the original program which is not stored in launchpad. (The last LTS that used the old compiz is the 10.04 which is not supported anymore). ** Changed in: compiz Status: Incomplete => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/393278 Title: Keyboard activated resize causes artifacts in resize-info. The open broadcom driver should already work out of the box. Furthermore the test suite now covers this test case. == Description == The propreitory driver Broadcom STA (packaged as 'bcmwl-kernel-source', provides 'wl' kernel module) gets autoinstalled upon Ubuntu 12.04.4 installation on systems with Broadcom BCM4313 (14e4:4727) wireless cards. Upto Ubuntu 12.04.3 with 3.8 kernel, this was good behaviour. But, with 3.11 kernel used in Ubuntu 13.10 and Ubuntu 12.04.4, the official open source 'brcmsmac' driver had improved (with the newly implemented AdHoc and AP mode, and other improvements) over propreitory 'wl'. On newer kernel versions, 'brcmsmac' works better than 'wl'. Autoinstalling the 'wl' driver would actually be a "downgrade" of functionality. I understand that there are some cards work only with 'wl', but it's better not to do autoinstall of 'bcmwl-kernel-source' on the ones supported by 'brcmsmac'. It maybe offered on the jockey Additional Drivers list, though I don't see any reason why anyone would prefer 'wl' over 'brcmsmac' now. I don't know if this issue remains on Ubuntu 14.04LTS's jockey merged with 'ubuntu-drivers' package. But, if it does that has to be fixed too. I hope this issue is fixed soon, so that Ubuntu 12.04.5 is released with the fixed jockey. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1497264] Re: Upgrade from 15.04 breaks serial Wacom
JD R, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/6quj19uc.txt an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1.40). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-1.40 ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1497264 Title: Upgrade from 15.04 breaks serial Wacom Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Both a fresh install of Xubuntu 15.04 and upgrading from 14.10 break the Wacom and touchscreen functionality on my thinkpad X201 tablet. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1449875] Re: ghostscript fails on some EPS files
To the maintainer of texlive-lang: Can the Recommends: of texlive-lang-cjk be demoted to Suggests:? Ghostscript only needs texlive-lang-cjk and nothing more for being able to render the attached file. Alternatively, can the binary package texlive-lang-cjk be split into two packages, texlive-lang-cjk-gs containing all the files of the former texlive-lang-cjk and texlive-lang-cjk depending on texlive-lang-cjk-gs and recommending what texlive-lang-cjk recommended before. Then we let Ghostscript depend on texlive-lang-cjk-gs making only the files of this package getting onto the system and the rest of the world uses texlive- lang-cjk pulling in all the 40 extra packages. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 537703] Re: Compiz intercepts alert sound from gnome-terminal
I'm really don't want to be rude and I'm sorry if I cause any offence but this is not a good policy. This bug was indeed reported against Compiz 0.8 but there's ample evidence in this thread that the bug still exists in Compiz 0.9. Valid bug reports shouldn't be closed because they're old. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/537703 Title: Compiz intercepts alert sound from gnome-terminal Status in Compiz: Won't Fix Status in compiz package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: Binary package hint: compiz This is with up-to-date Lucid installed afresh from alpha 3. When compiz is active, the Gnome alert sound for gnome-terminal is intercepted and never played. I'm not sure other applications suffer from this, but I would find it strange it this were specific to gnome- terminal. Detailed steps to reproduce: - Check that the alert sound is enabled and audible: - Click on the volume indicator in the panel and choose "Sound preferences..." - Go to the "Sound effects" tab - Set the alert volume slider to a nonzero value - Make sure the master volume is also at a nonzero value - Check sound can be heard by clicking on one of the unselected alert sounds in the list - Close "Sound preferences" window - Press Alt-F2, enter "gnome-terminal" and press enter - Make sure the "Terminal bell" is enabled: - Right-click on the terminal background, and select "Profiles" > "Profile preferences" - Make sure "Terminal bell" is checked - Close "Profile preferences" window - With compiz enabled, focus the terminal and hit backspace. No sound is played - Press Alt-F2, enter "metacity --replace" and press enter - Go back to the open terminal and hit backspace. The alert sound is played The above behaviour occurs regardless of whether the gconf key /apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/audible_bell is set or not. Moreover, if one sets a visual effect to represent the bell (blur, water, wobbly, ...), it is displayed. So the bell is being sent, compiz is receiving it, but it never passes it to the relevant bit of the desktop that is supposed to play the sound. Metacity does. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1497196] Re: libreoffice-writer crashed and will not restart
Lorin Soura, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal: cd /var/crash && sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade && sudo apt-get -y install libreoffice-dbg uno-libs3-dbg ure-dbg && sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a new report, you would be affected by https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line: sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf and comment out the line: 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], by changing it to: # 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via: ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash Please follow https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LibreOfficeBugWrangling when you file this crash report so the necessary information is provided. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and reopen it. As well, please do not announce in this report you created a new bug report. Thank you for your understanding. With a single window open and maximised the plugin shrinks the window slightly and grays out (inactivates) the taskbars (see screenshot). I noticed this behaviour in jaunty, and possibly before. Mostly I thought it was annoying. However, a friend of mine was using my computer and, not knowing about scale, thought that the taskbars had crashed and didn't understand what was happening. Since the purpose of the scale plugin is to enable choosing/viewing multiple windows it is completely useless when only one window is showing. All the supported Ubuntu releases use the C++ version of compiz since April 2015. ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Won't Fix ** Changed in: compiz Status: Triaged => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/497866 Title: Compizconfig-settings-manager desktop icon says 'Opciones' instead of 'opciones' Status in Compiz: Won't Fix Status in compizconfig-settings-manager: New Status in Ubuntu Translations: New Status in compiz package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: Binary package hint: language-pack-gnome-es Including screenshot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/497866/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

We could make Xmir leak its resources (including the connection to the Mir server)... that would also solve some annoying flickering but I'm not sure it's the right answer. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1481330 Title: Xmir crashes when client closes display Status in Mir: Incomplete Status in mir package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Xmir crashes when a client loses its connection to Xmir, either through XCloseDisplay, or by normal program termination. RHEL7 Release Candidate applied this patch: http://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/18244/ From the patch: "So we have 2 places where gpus with 24bpp frontbuffers are still in use, cirrus (in qemu) and some early variants of the mgag200 server chips. Currently we seem to get a lot of broken rendering in qt, mesa, gnome if we expose the frontbuffer as 24bpp, nobody seems to test this anymore upstream so client side apps are constantly broken, so lets just make -modesetting expose a 24/32 shadow frontbuffer, and use the shadow update hook to convert down to the actual 24bpp front, this might be slower, but its correct and really anyone that wants this already has enough problems." [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1421923] Re: No notifications for new mails
Hey Niklas. Awesome work on this so far, you have made great progress! I have a couple of questions/suggestions: firstly for the created url that is sent through url-dispatcher. It would be great if it could be and rfc 5092 [1] compliant IMAP url. Particularly because this is the standard for referencing objects on a remote IMAP server but it also includes some useful info like the UIDVALIDITY which ideally a client should be checking, to be sure that the UIDs have not changed between the poll session and the new session created from the dispatched url. Also in terms of how Dekko works it would be really helpful if the message partid was included as well, so that we would have a direct pointer to the exact message part you created the notification from. Which we can directly fetch and not have to parse the mime structure again to find the interesting part. Secondly, I read you blog post but it wasn't entirely clear to me how a user will select the client to consume the notifications. IIRC url- dispatcher was recently made clever and if more than one app is registered to consume the same protocol/scheme then the user is prompted to select which app to use. Would it make sense to just utilize that? This is the current state for the mailto: protocol so it would make sense to keep it consistent. What's your thoughts? Keep up the great work!
