Bug description:
  [Impact]
We have had reports going back to 13.10 that gnome-shell extensions are
disabled after restart (LP: #1236749), this has probably been our #1 unresolved
bug for the last few cycles. While this is the main user visible bug probably
other bugs caused by this for example (BGO: #745707)

The cause was tracked down to gnome-session not shutting down cleanly
under upstart. Although the underlying issue seems to be the order in
which upstart takes down the various components in a user session, the
side-effects themselves appear to be caused by gnome-session
continuing to run when it should in fact be shutdown

The fix updates the 103_kill_the_fail_whale.patch to force shutdown of
gnome-session. This is inline with the fix upstream for (BGO: #745707)
  also.

  [ Test Case ]
Note: This is only reproducible under upstart init.
  1. Load gdm
  2. Login to gnome-shell using GNOME from the session list
  3. enable some extensions
  4. reboot system from user menu.
  5. login again to find extensions disabled.

  [ Regression Potential ]
Very low, the fail whale is meant to be fatal. The upstream dialog that is
disabled in ubuntu does in fact cause gnome-session to get shutdown.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1273201] Re: bridge_ignore_without_connections.patch breaks NM created bridge at boot

2016-01-02 Thread Thomas Staerk
the PPA of Cedric is very helpful, but in my opinion it should be the
intention of a LTS to publish the fixed version here, so Canonical
should give 14.04 users a solution

Title:
bridge_ignore_without_connections.patch breaks NM created bridge at
  boot

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I've created a bridge with network-manager-gnome, the bridge slave
physical device is eth0. After a reboot the bridge is brought up, but
  eth0 isn't attached.

  First test-case:
Created a bridge with network-manager-gnome with the bridge slave physical
device is eth0 and remove all other connections. After a reboot the bridge is
brought up, but eth0 isn't attached. When I open
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf and save it without any modification,
eth0 is instantly added to my bridge. Strange!

  Second test-case:
Created a bridge with network-manager-gnome with the bridge slave physical
device is eth0. Disable the "autoconnect" of the default wired network. After a
reboot the bridge is brought up, but eth0 isn't attached. Instead eth0 is
brought up and full configured.

After compiling and testing different upstream versions, i could track
the problem down to bridge_ignore_without_connections.patch. A
network-manager package without this specific patch, brings my bridge
up at boot and adds eth0 to the bridge in both test-cases.

I've checked the behaviour on my ubuntu 13.10 box with network-manager
(0.9.8.0-0ubuntu22) and the trusty version network-manager
  (0.9.8.8-0ubuntu1) .

Till now i couldn't encounter any sideeffects of removing this patch
with the bridge created by libvirt.

  Regards
  Mathias Kresin

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 995332] Re: Please enhance NetworkManager such that DNSSEC validation is done whenever possible

2016-01-02 Thread Nicolas Delvaux
On Wily, I edited /etc/dnsmasq.d/network-manager and added the following
lines:

# DNSSEC setup
dnssec
trust-anchor=.,19036,8,2,49AAC11D7B6F6446702E54A1607371607A1A41855200FD2CE1CDDE32F24E8FB5
dnssec-check-unsigned

I then restarted network-manager and tried to connect to
http://www.dnssec-failed.org/.
As expected, the site does not load (it is deliberately configured to fail
DNSSEC validation).
But when reloading the page multiple-time, it is sometime displayed! I don't
understand why.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 995332] Re: Please enhance NetworkManager such that DNSSEC validation is done whenever possible

2016-01-02 Thread Nicolas Delvaux
For some reason, subsequent DNS queries do not always bring the same
result here with the above configuration:

First queries after a reboot return what's expected:

nicolas@nicolas-desktop:~ 0 $ dig www.dnssec-failed.org

And then, suddenly:

But nautilus just dennies to copy the file claming that the

I tested it with two different USB sticks in two different computers
running Ubuntu 12.04 and the same result.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1178622] Re: 'maniuplating' typo

2016-01-02 Thread Luigi Toscano
I stumbled into the typo and I noticed that it has recently fixed into master
branch of modemmanager:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/ModemManager/ModemManager/commit/?id=d5bc19f7db1bbbe8c54c2dc7d31bbc7a68c28d66

The fix was not backported into 1.4.x stable series so far, so this bug
will be really fixed when the next major series of modemmanager will be
released (or it can be closed marking it as solved upstream, I don't
know the policies here).

2016-01-02 Thread J@n
Tried to rip one of my (owned) dvd's today but got the libdvdcss erroe.

Then:

sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh

Worked for me, hope this helps others.

Solved my problem so:
 Kudos to https://launchpad.net/~walter-korvemaker :)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1196339] Re: Firefox "Open Containing Folder" opens Audacious instead of File Manager

2016-01-02 Thread LucMorizur
Hi;

I'm bored also with this bug. The workaround proposed by rmoorman in #16
works, but indeed is reset when running update-desktop-database -- which
I never used before as a matter of facts and without any obvious
trouble; I don't know if it is something ran automatically sometimes?

Thus I created an alias mainly to remember how to correct this if it
comes back. But of course a real fix would be better.

Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1011257] Re: x-gvfs-show option doesn't work

2016-01-02 Thread Alexander Sashnov
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1012081 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1012081

Workaround is to use comment=x-gvfs-show option instead (works well on
Ubuntu 14.04)

** Attachment added: "disks_automount_bug_workaround.png"

Title:
  x-gvfs-show option doesn't work

Status in gnome-disk-utility package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in gnome-disk-utility source package in Raring:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
was reporting a separate bug #1010858 about double icons appearing for
mounted filesystems, and it occurred to me that it was happening for
volumes I had listed in /etc/fstab with uhelper=udisks, the mechanism
i used in previous versions to mount internal drives and see them in
  launcher etc.

  In investigating, I found the apparently-new gnome-disk-utility
"Disks" and that seems to have new options for doing this properly,
but when I tried to use them in closest-to-default way, it failed.

The attached screenshot shows the options I had set on a volume. Below
is the line that generated in /etc/fstab:

  LABEL=Spinner /mnt/Spinner auto nosuid,nodev,nofail,x-gvfs-show 0 0

It fails to mount when you try to mount it in the disk utility. An
  error dialogue opens with:

  Error mounting system-managed device /dev/sdg1: Command-line `mount
"/mnt/Spinner"' exited with non-zero exit status 32: mount: wrong fs type, bad
option, bad superblock on /dev/sdg1,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
 dmesg | tail or so

   (udisks-error-quark, 0)

  dmesg | tail gives:

  [ 619.470006] EXT4-fs (sdg1): Unrecognized mount option "x-gvfs-show"
  or missing value

I expect the bug isn't so much in the disk utility app itself as in
the underlying mount tools that have probably been compiled without a
required option, but the user experience is that it fails when using
the disk utility, hence reporting it here for now.

I suspect I can make this work a different way using prior knowledge,
to make it mount in /media and using uhelper=udisks2 - will be trying
that in a moment - but this seemed the logical, minimal way to proceed
for the new utility and it failed.

So one idea could be to also use the first offset when checking the
signature and in case it is not zero instead of return the status as
SIGNATURE_VALID say something like "SIGNATURE_PARTLY_VALID".

The pdfsig tool already implements support for multiple
signatures/"revisions" but it seems the API does not expose the
ByteRange for which the signature covers nor provides an other way to
obtain that revision of the document (?).

Bug description:
udisks' / gnome-disk-utility's support for the drive standby timer is

the minimum on many drives ), every 10 minutes udisks tries to update

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1211110] Re: network manager openvpn dns push data not updating system DNS addresses

2016-01-02 Thread Sam
This bug is also in Xenial Xerus development.
Sites that use SSO keeps login user out as moving around.
Any dns leak site confirms the leak only on the newer versions of Ubuntu.
This DNS leak is really annoying because it makes my vpn connection useless!

Title:
network manager openvpn dns push data not updating system DNS
  addresses

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in openvpn package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When IPv4 Method is set to Automatic VPN, DNS address recieved from
OpenVPN server do not update resolv.conf.

This can be achieved when using a standard openvpn config file by
  adding the lines:

  script-security 2
  up /etc/openvpn/update-resolv-conf
  down /etc/openvpn/update-resolv-conf

In Network-manager there seems to be no option to run connection
specific scripts and the DNS data from the server is ignored.

  Ubuntu 13.04

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1485236] Re: gpu-manager generates an invalid xorg.conf file

Title:
gpu-manager generates an invalid xorg.conf file

Status in ubuntu-drivers-common package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I use Ubuntu 15.04. I have both a nvidia graphics card and an
integrated intel one. Sometimes, I boot my system without nvidia card,
and sometimes with both. Until recently this setup worked correctly,
so that when the nvidia card was enabled, the system would boot up
using nvidia drivers, and in the other case it would use intel card.
Now I am unable to boot up without nvidia card. Booting with it
removes the xorg.conf file (it is empty). When I reboot with intel
card only, Xorg fails to start because of the following error:

  Data incomplete in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Undefined Screen "nvidia" referenced by ServerLayout "layout".

I check gpu-manager's logs, and indeed it claims to have generated the
  xorg.conf file:

  log_file: /var/log/gpu-manager.log

  ===

However, the generated xorg.conf file is clearly invalid:

  =xorg.conf=
  Section "ServerLayout"
  Identifier "layout"
  Screen 0 "nvidia"
  Inactive "intel"
  EndSection

  Section "Device"
  Identifier "intel"
  Driver "intel"
  BusID "PCI:0@0:2:0"
  Option "AccelMethod" "SNA"
  EndSection

  Section "Screen"
  Identifier "intel"
  Device "intel"
  EndSection
  ===

So Xorg is right to report the error that screen "nvidia" is
undefined. Apparently the xorg.conf file that gpu-manager generated is
incorrect, and this issue prevents me from booting my system
correctly, and this makes me believe this bug may be considered
  significant.

Status in gnome-calculator package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: mplayer

  Ubuntu 10.10 using gcalctool 5.30.0.

Is it possible to roll back to version 5.28.2 from version 5.32.0?

I need to be able to resize the window as adding or subtracting many
entry's the entry's get lost from sight so it is impossible to check
before totalling in version 5.30.0. They just get lost from view.

Please see the attachment. I don't know if this is a bug or not.

  Any ideas?

  Thanks in advance, Bob.

Status in GNOME Calculator:
  Confirmed
Status in gnome-calculator package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  gnome-calculator 3.8.1 (3.8.1-0ubuntu1) on Ubuntu 13.04 x86_64:

  In Advanced mode, enter:

   8×10¹²÷6×10⁹

  (keystrokes: [8] [×10^y] [1] [2] [/] [6] [×10^y] [9])

  Result:

   1.3×10²¹

  Correct answer:

   1333.333

(so gnome-calculator is off by 18 orders of magnitude. The ‘×10^y’
steps should be carried out first, according to operator precedence
  for exponentiation.)
