[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1652410] Re: Undescriptive duplicity/collection-status error when the backup directory contains two volumes with different file names and same volume number in the same backup

2017-01-15 Thread Vej
Resetting to "Confirmed", because it turned out, that more triaging is
needed.

@Nathanael: Thanks for replicating the bug.

I did some searching for related bugs in duplicity and found bug
#1471818, which states, that these files are sometimes even deleted. So
we need to go into the code of both software packages now to find the
part, which needs improvement.

If you do (or did?) so, it would be helpful, if you could state filename
and line number of your findings.

I will come back to this bug later this week

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1580692] Re: Dell latitude e6520 display freezes must reboot

2017-01-15 Thread Edward Cherlin
I have seen several remedies proposed for this bug, each of which seems
to work for some people and not others.

I am running Ubuntu 16.10. I had the mouse problem recurring every few
minutes, with the cursor moving normally but unable to click on
anything. Sometimes I could click in one window and not another.
Sometimes I could not click in any window, but the toolbar menu worked.

I also have Windows installed on this computer. The bug never occurs in
Windows.

Upgrade BIOS to A05: No effect on the bug on my computer.

Remove deprecated video driver: No effect on the bug on my computer.

Install most recent version of non-free Nvidia driver, 367.57 0ubuntu3:
Fixes bug on my computer almost completely.

Workarounds:

Switch console ctrl-alt-f1 and back ctrl-alt-f7. Mouse usually resumes
normal action.

Switch to Guest account and back using toolbar menu. Mouse usually
resumes normal action.

Dell latitude e6520 display freezes must reboot

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
This is a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04LTS 64 on a Dell Latitude E6520
laptop with an Intel core i7-2720QM (4 core) CPU, 8GB RAM and an
NVIDIA N12P-NS2 video controller. The display freezes at random (I had
this 10 times today with completely different apps running). The mouse
still moves but the system does not react to clicks or keypresses (not
even Ctrl-Alt-Del etc. and I can't access terminals at Ctrl+Alt+F1
etc.) It does not shut down gracefully when the power button is
pressed. The system is however still active and can be accessed
externally through SSH. The mouse and screen seems slightly less
responsive than usual a few seconds before the freeze so that I can
"feel it coming". However, it is hardly noticeable.

I noticed that the underside of the laptop is sometimes very hot when
the display freezes, but it is not systematic, sometimes the freeze
happens after the laptop had time to cool before booting and hasn't
  got hot yet.

Until recently this laptop was running windows 7 64 pro without any
problem. I have performed a full hardware test of the laptop (via
setup) only a couple of days ago, there was no issue.

I attached the output of dmesg and the Xorg.0.log file.

This is not a critical system to me but I thought I'd report the bug
for all intents and purposes, and I'd rather not reinstall windows on
it if it can be helped ;-)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1580692] Re: Dell latitude e6520 display freezes must reboot

2017-01-15 Thread elliot smith
[solved?]
Hello,
I have experienced this issue on two E6520 laptops with i5 processors running
the Linux Mint live image for installing Mint version 18 (booted off the USB
port.) Both laptops running BIOS version A19, which is the latest version at
this time. In my troubleshooting I found this issue continues to happen
despite removing the hard drive, cdrom drive, and despite switching from a low
quality USB 2.0 thumb drive as the boot device to a high quality USB 3.0 thumb
drive.
This issue seems to be the same as what is discussed here:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19579391

My preliminary testing indicates that the solution may be as simple as
... choosing the option of "Load Defaults" in the BIOS. When you choose
this option, you will also be asked if you want to allow the SATA
Operation to be changed. I suggest selecting "NO" for the SATA
Operation change. Then press "Apply" to confirm the "Load Defaults"
command.

As far as I can tell, there is no specific setting or combination of
settings in the BIOS which causes this issue. That is to say, I am so
far not able to replicate this issue after choosing to "Load Defaults"
despite the fact that I have set all the BIOS settings back to what they
were before choosing to "Load Defaults." Therefore, I think that "Load
Defaults" may be clearing up some corruption in the BIOS settings. If
this is the case, then it is in theory possible that the BIOS corruption
happened due to an upgrade of the BIOS, or a low NVRAM battery. A low
NVRAM battery can be tricky in some laptops because it may not cause
problems until the main battery is removed from the laptop which leaves
the NVRAM totally dependent on the NVRAM battery. I have tested for
several hours after loading defaults, with no further crashes. Before
loading defaults, I would get at least a couple crashes per hour while
doing nothing more than navigating the GUI.

I will update this comment if I find any new info or any info which
contradicts my preliminary experience so far.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1573755] Re: Compose and dead keys stopped working with XIM after upgrade to 16.04

2017-01-15 Thread Hachmann
Thank you, @Gunnar Hjalmarsson. I'm still on LM18, maybe update to 18.1
when available for Xfce version will take up those changes.

Unfortunately, fixing this caused a different kate problem now... Can't paste
with Ctrl+V (just in case anyone encounters the same as a result of following
my path: pasting works for me when kate's snippet dialog isn't visible).
Now I'll need to decide which problem is the one that bugs me more - no
accents, or no pasting with snippet dialog open... Seems these input methods
are entangled with very unexpected things. Must be a programmer's hell...! I
think I'll create a snippet with accented letters and go with XIM :-\

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1649763] Re: Dell XPS 15 2016 with Ubuntu 16 Sound HDMI issues

2017-01-15 Thread Hui Wang
I don't think the issue 1 is a problem, since the pulseaudio's design is
just like that. In the pulseaudio, the HDMI output does not have higher
priority than internal speaker. If users want the sound output via HDMI,
users need to select it manually.

For issue 2, it is really a problem, and I can reproduce this problem on my own
laptop, so it is a common problem instead of specific to Dell xps 15 and 4K
monitor.

I am debugging the pulseaudio's code and u-c-c's code, try to fix this
problem from either PA or u-c-c.

Dell XPS 15 2016 with Ubuntu 16 Sound HDMI issues

Status in unity-control-center package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This issue is related to sound not working properly on Ubuntu when
switching between an external display using HDMI with 4K resolution
  and the standard laptop display.

Issue 1 - Sound only works on laptop when plugged into 4k HDMI display
Issue 2 - Sound doesn't work when plugged removed from 4k HDMI display

When you plug in a 4k Display that supports sound to the Dell XPS 15
2016 model the sound only works on the laptop. Only when you go to
Sound Settings and manually select the HDMI output for sound does the
sound start to work on the display itself instead of the laptop.

When you unplug the HDMI 4k display the sound doesn't work on the
laptop. When you go to the Sound Settings dialog it only shows one
output that is selected - if you select the same output thats already
selected the sound starts to work again on the laptop.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1573755] Re: Compose and dead keys stopped working with XIM after upgrade to 16.04

2017-01-15 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
@Hachmann: Well, I forgot that you are on Linux Mint...

At the release of Ubuntu 16.04 "none" meant actually "XIM". It has been
changed via updates, so on an updated Ubuntu 16.04 you have both a
"none" option (actually setting "none") and a "XIM" option. I suspect
that those changes have not been taken into account on Linux Mint. (They
use a modified package.)

So probably also you had a XIM problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1573755] Re: Compose and dead keys stopped working with XIM after upgrade to 16.04

2017-01-15 Thread Hachmann
@Gunnar Hjalmarsson:

It was set to 'none' before, so maybe mine is a different bug, then?

(XIM wasn't available for choice in the LM settings dialog for input
method, I didn't know how to find out if it was used, but not
displayed.).

2017-01-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I chose Medium on the assumption that the only Mir code affected here
was a couple of examples (and that the real problem is Mesa bug
1480755). However the issue affecting Unity8 might be the same mistake
from the examples also made in real_kms_display_configuration.cpp and
elsewhere. So yeah that would qualify as high then.

@Hachmann: Yeah, it seems to be related to XIM, and several users have
reported that switching to input method IBus (or "none") fixes it.

Has anybody tried to make XIM work by simply removing the cache in
~/.cache/?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1652410] Re: Undescriptive duplicity/collection-status error when the backup directory contains two volumes with different file names and same volume number in the same backup

2017-01-15 Thread Nathanaël Naeri
I have also replicated the bug, on Ubuntu 14.04 deja-dup 30.0 duplicity
0.6.23 (haven't got a more recent version yet but David has), as a
newly-created user with the default Déjà-Dup settings:

1. Perform the first full backup and check that the backup, the file
signatures, and the manifest file have been successfully created:

$ ls -l ~/deja-dup
-rw--- 1 luke luke 171 Jan 16 00:51
duplicity-full.20170115T235149Z.manifest
-rw--- 1 luke luke 48989 Jan 16 00:51
duplicity-full.20170115T235149Z.vol1.difftar.gz
-rw--- 1 luke luke 9965 Jan 16 00:51
duplicity-full-signatures.20170115T235149Z.sigtar.gz

2. Uncompress the backup volume:

$ gunzip --to-stdout duplicity-full.20170115T235149Z.vol1.difftar.gz >
duplicity-full.20170115T235149Z.vol1.difftar

$ ls -l ~/deja-dup
-rw--- 1 luke luke171 Jan 16 00:51
duplicity-full.20170115T235149Z.manifest
-rw-rw-r-- 1 luke luke 480256 Jan 16 00:57
duplicity-full.20170115T235149Z.vol1.difftar
-rw--- 1 luke luke 48989 Jan 16 00:51
duplicity-full.20170115T235149Z.vol1.difftar.gz
-rw--- 1 luke luke 9965 Jan 16 00:51
duplicity-full-signatures.20170115T235149Z.sigtar.gz

3. Start the first incremental backup and witness the assertion error in
duplicity that David reported:

$ deja-dup --backup
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/duplicity", line 1494, in
with_tempdir(main)

if set.add_filename(filename):
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/duplicity/collections.py", line 100,

(self.volume_name_dict, filename)
AssertionError: ({1: 'duplicity-full.20170115T235149Z.vol1.difftar'},
'duplicity-full.20170115T235149Z.vol1.difftar.gz')

$ DEJA_DUP_DEBUG=1 deja-dup --backup > deja-dup.log1
# see attached file for details

4. Interestingly, duplicity already has checks to avoid considering
files whose names don't look like they could be part of a backup set, as
proven by the success and log file of the following incremental backup:

$ ls -l ~/deja-dup
-rw-rw-r-- 1 luke luke 0 Jan 16 01:08 assignment.odt
-rw-rw-r-- 1 luke luke 0 Jan 16 01:08 creative-writing-syllabus.pdf
-rw-rw-r-- 1 luke luke 0 Jan 16 01:08 duplicity-commandline-memo.txt
-rw-rw-r-- 1 luke luke 0 Jan 16 01:08 duplicity-full-1995-movie.mkv.vol1.rar
-rw--- 1 luke luke 171 Jan 16 00:51
duplicity-full.20170115T235149Z.manifest
-rw--- 1 luke luke 48989 Jan 16 00:51
duplicity-full.20170115T235149Z.vol1.difftar.gz
-rw--- 1 luke luke 9965 Jan 16 00:51
duplicity-full-signatures.20170115T235149Z.sigtar.gz

$ DEJA_DUP_DEBUG=1 deja-dup --backup > deja-dup.log2
# see attached file for details (truncated to the interesting bits)

So there's no need to come up with a brand-new extensive filename
filter, it's already here, only improve it so it doesn't burp so hard
when a backup volume is present in both compressed and uncompressed
forms.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1573755] Re: Compose and dead keys stopped working with XIM after upgrade to 16.04

2017-01-15 Thread Hachmann
I've got this problem on Linux Mint 18 Xfce (sorry...), German keyboard,
for kde based apps, ever since I upgraded from 14.04 to 16.04.

konsole and kate are the applications where it hurts most.

Neither Compose key+accent+char nor typing the accent, then the char,
work for me

(I only need ^, ´ and `, which work fine in other apps. I'd like to be
able to use regexes in kate and write the occasional French
translation...).

@Pierre: our problems appear similar. Did you find a solution?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1654458] Re: default trusty g++ compiler gives warnings about deprecated use of std::auto_ptr in this package.

2017-01-15 Thread Carlo Wood
@Murray Thank you for your comment. I could not find any package for
ubuntu that has this fixed. As it is an ABI breakage, as I understand,
any project that wants to use C++11 standard (let alone C++17) will want
to immediately start to demand and link with the new libxml++; so it's a
problem that there isn't a package in ubuntu for that in 2017. Or am I
missing something?

** Summary changed:

- default trusty g++ compiler gives warnings about deprecated use of
std::auto_ptr in this package.
+ default xenial g++ compiler gives warnings about deprecated use of
std::auto_ptr in this package.

** Description changed:

- Default trusty install leaves me with a flood of the following when
+ Default xenial install leaves me with a flood of the following when
trying to compile my application, using libxml++2.6:

  In file included from /usr/include/libxml++-2.6/libxml++/libxml++.h:54:0,

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1652410] Re: Undescriptive duplicity/collection-status error when the backup directory contains two volumes with different file names and same volume number in the same backup

>> *.manifest files only, or something like that?

> This sounds good to me!

On further investigation, unfortunately, I realize it is not a file list
that Déjà-Dup passes to duplicity collection-status, but the path/URL of
the backup repository, e.g.:

  duplicity collection-status [options] file://home/luke/deja-dup

This is what duplicity expects for this action, according to the man
page. So it might be trickier than I thought to have duplicity not
examine certain files, and perhaps this bug would be better solved on
duplicity's side than on Déjà-Dup's side.

Worst case, if the bug can't be fixed and the situation requires a human
to examine the contents of the backup repository to take adequate
action, then duplicity should return a more descriptive message than the
current terse assertion error.

This sounds good to me!

I consider this to be Triaged, even if this bug has not been replicated
by someone else. The reason for this problem is found and a way to solve
it within Dèjá Dup is given.

I will forward to upstream as well.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1645116] Re: [Brother DCP-J715W] core dumped executing scanimage -L

2017-01-15 Thread Eduard Iten
Hi Christopher,

as I got exactly the same problem with a DCP-7045N and Ubuntu Gnome
16.10, I'll reply as I tested this out:

Connecteted to USB, then scanimage -L: segmentation error
Then I removed the network scanner by brsaneconfig -r scanner. Again, a
segmentation error.
Then I added the UDEV rules and restarted the system, resulting in a
segmentation fault.
Then I removed the brscan3-libs (deleted the copied files from /usr/lib and
/usr/lib/sane). Now I have no segmentation fault and everything seems to work,
as I can find my HP B210 scanner.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1656697] [NEW] links broken in evolution 3.18.5.2 (ubuntu 16.04)

2017-01-15 Thread ulph
Public bug reported:

i hope this bug isn't already reported. it would be strange, but i couldn't
find it, maybe i'm not i'm not very used to bug reporting.
since i updated to ubuntu 16.04 from the former lts version, any longer links,
which are wrapped over 2 lines in evolutions mail editor are broken as soon as
the mail is sent. which means, that only the beginning of the link in the first
line is linked with an a href, which also conains just the beginning of the

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1652410] Re: duja-dup AssertionError: ({1: 'duplicity-full.20161129T015237Z.vol1.difftar'}

2017-01-15 Thread Nathanaël Naeri
>> You apparently performed a full backup on 2016-11-29 at 01:52 UTC,
>> did everything work fine during this backup? Was it successful ?
> Don't think so

Don't think so either, because your full backup on that date is only one
volume long and that volume is 120 bytes long:

  ls -l /home/david/Dropbox/Backups
  [...]
  ... 120 Nov 28 17:52 duplicity-full.20161129T015237Z.vol1.difftar.gz
  [...]

FYI duplicity makes backups into sets of normally 25 MB volumes.

And then there's your first incremental backup on Dec 1 which doesn't
look good since there are only volumes 2, 7, 15, 16, 23, 41, 49 of that
backup set in your backup repository. Where are all the other ones? Did
Dropbox eat them? And the normally-accompanying signatures and manifest
files are nowhere to be found either.

I don't know if Déjà-Dup can recover from this situation and finish the
partial incremental backup set but I wouldn't even lose time trying to
be honest. I've always found the easiest way to recover from a severely
failed backup is to delete the failed part (everything in your case) and
start again. For good measure you can also delete the backup's cache
directory:

  rm -r /home/david/Dropbox/Backups
  rm -r /home/david/.cache/deja-dup/f00ff76508010e2a830dd26b1d39db42

When you try again, you may want to test backing up a small subset of
your documents instead of your whole user directory. That way you'll
know quickly if it works or fails again. If it works, you can delete
this test backup and start again with the whole thing.

Libreoffice temporarily hangs / freezes Ubuntu 16.10

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Using LibreOffice-Writer and running off the IGP ( (Mesa DRI Intel(R) HD
Graphics 530 (Skylake GT2) / Mesa 12.0.3 ) causes LibreOffice and the Ubuntu
Desktop interface to become unresponsive every few minutes. This freezing will
last for about five seconds before everything works again.
When i keep typing while everything freezes the text will appear after the
system becomes responsive again.

WORKAROUND: Use the Nvidia Quadro M2000M GPU and it's Nvidia driver
  for the graphics.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1652410] Re: duja-dup AssertionError: ({1: 'duplicity-full.20161129T015237Z.vol1.difftar'}

2017-01-15 Thread Nathanaël Naeri
Thanks for the information. First of all, as reported by the log file
you sent and the listing of your backup directory, there is an
uncompressed backup volume in your volume directory, and an uncompressed
file of files signatures, created or last modified on Dec 22:

  duplicity-full.20161129T015237Z.vol1.difftar
  duplicity-full-signatures.20161129T015237Z.sigtar

along with their older compressed versions, created on Nov 28:

  duplicity-full.20161129T015237Z.vol1.difftar.gz
  duplicity-full-signatures.20161129T015237Z.sigtar.gz

As far as I know there shouldn't be any such uncompressed files in the
backup location. Did you uncompress them yourself perhaps? In any case,
they're confusing duplicity (the command-line backup tool Déjà-Dup is a
graphical front-end to), if I understand the log file and error message
correctly:

'duplicity-full.20161129T015237Z.vol1.difftar.gz')

>From my understanding of the duplicity source code in the incriminated
file, this is what happens when happens Déjà-Dup launches the
collection-status action to have duplicity find out which backup chains
are in the backup repository: Déjà-Dup passes the list of files in this
directory to duplicity, which takes the uncompressed duplicity-
full.20161129T015237Z.vol1.difftar for the start of a backup set, then
tries to add the compressed duplicity-
full.20161129T015237Z.vol1.difftar.gz to this set, and fails because the
volume number of this file has already been added to the set. Otherwise
there would be two backup volumes with the same volume number in the
backup set, and duplicity can't guess which one to take into account.

To fix this bug from happening in the future, we could perhaps restrict
the file list that is passed from Déjà-Dup to duplicity collection-
status? Perhaps to *.{diff,sig}tar.{gz,gpg} and *.manifest files only,
or something like that?

Or perhaps it could be fixed in duplicity, by having duplicity prefer a
particular filename when there are two volumes with the same number in
the same backup set? But then which one and on what grounds?

Vej, your take on that?

In the meantime, David, I believe it's safe for you to delete those
extraneous uncompressed files (or move them outside of your backup
repository). The assertion error should no longer be triggered, but you
should bump into other errors, because your backup repository clearly
doesn't have a complete, well-formed backup chain. More on that later.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1643122] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 No Sound From Web Videos on HDMI

2017-01-15 Thread Soren Mogensen
This issue also affects me on my kodi media centre. It's not a NUC, but
rather a custom build PC with an ASUS P8H77-M motherboard and an intel
core i3-3225. Would greatly like to upgrade from 14.04 but without HDMI
sound when streaming video in a browser, that's not possible.

Had found similar workaround - in my case running speaker-test in an
xterm while opening the browser tab from which to play video, and not
stopping speaker-test until the video is playing. A major hassle that's
not acceptable to the rest of the family.

This appears to be kernel related as it breaks similarly under 14.04 if
I install a newer kernel - however, have not identified the kernel
version where HDMI sound broke. (Obviously HDMI sound is not fully
broken since the workaround makes it work, but more like something is no
longer being initialized correctly).

Title:
Ubuntu 16.04 No Sound From Web Videos on HDMI

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have 4 x Intel NUC D54250WYK which we use as Kodi media centres,
connected to a central MythTV backend server. The NUCs also have
Google Chrome installed, which we use to watch Netflix. Each of the
NUC's are built exactly the same, using the same HDMI cables, all
connected to LCD TVs. All sound was working perfectly via HDMI on
14.04 LTS, before upgrading to 16.04.

After fresh installs of 16.04 LTS, sound no longer works via the HDMI
interface, if I attempt to watch Netflix, Youtube, or even sound from
Pandora music streaming - anything from the Internet. I have the
ubuntu-restricted-extras / addons installed, and have followed all the
  guides on PulseAudio, and pavucontrol.

I have upgraded / downgraded NUC firmware and turned sound on and off
in the BIOS, reset the default setting and loaded previous working
profiles, however all sound from Web Browsers fails to work through
  the HDMI adapter.

I have Google Chrome and even installed the latest Firefox 49 Beta
which supports DRM, Netflix videos work fine, but no down.

If I open up pavucontrol, I can see Chrome / Firefox audio levels seem
to be active in the HDMI control panel, i.e. the levels are moving in
tune with the video stream, but not directed to HDMI output.

I can get it to work under one scenario If I trick the audio by
playing a video in Kodi so the sound is active, then I start Chrome /
Firefox and I can watch Netflix / Youtube videos with sound. But I
have to flick over to Kodi to stop the movie, before returning to the
web browser to continue the show. If I pause or click on another link,
the sound dies, and I have to shut down the browser and trick the
audio system again before it works; this obviously is not ideal.

Sound will work via the headphone jack if I switch audio output from
HDMI to analog, in sound control application.

So in a nutshell, I think PulseAudio is working, however somewhere
along the connection between web browser / pulse / HDMI interface,
  appears not to be.

TEMPORARY SOLUTION: The only fix I have been able to get working, is
to set Gnome to HDMI resolution of 1440x900, then sound will work on
web videos, however this defeats the purpose of 1080P / HDMI...

FULL DIAGNOSIS: I have provided extensive logs and updates at:
  https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-
  driver/+question/399296

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1515829] Re: Gimp tooltip text color is white on white

2017-01-15 Thread Tiedemate
As the link of comment 3 is no longer available, I searched for e new
workaround. For me deactivating "Apply colours to non-QT applications"
in System settings -> Colour -> Options fixes the issue in KDE plasma
5.7.5. Maybe this should be deactivated by default?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1574667] Re: Mouse pointer occasionally jumps to the bottom-left corner

2017-01-15 Thread Juan Hernández
Philipp, I'm using Cinnamon instead of Gnome and the option is still
present.

Anyway I guess you could try Ubuntu Tweaks to change this property or
simply set the option by editing the configuration file installed with
the package (I think it should be
"/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-libinput.conf") and adding the following
line inside the "InputClass" section:

   Option "NaturalScrolling" "true"

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1574667] Re: Mouse pointer occasionally jumps to the bottom-left corner

2017-01-15 Thread Philipp Hauer
Juan's fix does the trick for me! Thank you so much!

The only drawback is that I can't inverse the scroll direction with two
fingers anymore. Under Settings > Mouse & Touchpad the checkbox "Natural
Scrolling" is gone. But I'm just glad that I can now use the touchpad at
all.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1446072] Re: No menu in fullscreen on Gnome 3

2017-01-15 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
This bug is fixed in latest stable Remmina version (1.2) - the menu on
the top of the screen in fullscreen mode appears since I upgraded
Remmina package to 1.2 release from official PPA:

https://launchpad.net/~remmina-ppa-team/+archive/ubuntu/remmina-next

I also copied latest stable freerdp and remmina packages to official
Baltix repository - ppa:baltix-members/ppa

Title:
No menu in fullscreen on Gnome 3

Status in remmina package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When I connect to a remote computer in fullscreen the menu on the top
of the screen does not open any more since I upgraded to Ubuntu 15.04.
There is a grey line at the top of the screen indicating the menu when
I connect to Windows 2008 R2. When I connect to Windows 8.1 the grey
line for the menu disappears completely after a few seconds. It is
very annoying not being able to use the menu.

The other change is that the fullscreen windows opens on the screen
where the remmina is started. In 14.04 I had RDP windows always appear
on one screen. Now I have to move remmina window there and then start
RDP. Otherwise it starts on a screen I don't want RDP to start.

When connecting to Windows 8.1, the cursor is now working great and it
changes shapes. Unfortunately I cannot say this for connecting to
Windows 2008 R2. The cursor there is surrounded with a black square
(64x64 maybe) where previous cursors are drawn. This may have
something to do with my graphics drivers because I use two graphics
adapters and two drivers for three screens (nouveau and intel) both
provided by Ubuntu. I have no proprietary graphics drivers.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1656658] [NEW] drm/i915: Resetting chip after gpu hang

2017-01-15 Thread GSJ
Public bug reported:

After sleep/wake cycle, switching windows and text scrolls become very slow.
Ubuntu GUI feels quite sluggish to the point of being unusable. I've been
living with this issue for months, hoping next update might fix the problem,
but no such luck! I've searched far and wide looking for a solution but
everything I read so far doesn't appear to address the issue in current
release. I believe I've all required updates(see below) but still no joy. In
case I missed something, please point me to the solution.

I used 'ubuntu-bug xorg' so I'm assuming all required logs/info is
already attached. In case not, I'm attaching dmesg.txt,
i915_error_state, Xorg.0.log. Please let me know if you require any
additional information.

Regards,
GSJ.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1553441] Re: [Asus K55DR] When VGA plugged into laptop, only one monitor working at a time

2017-01-15 Thread lazanet
** Description changed:

+ When my ASUS VW193 external monitor is connected to the VGA port of my
laptop (AMD Radeon 7470m) internal laptop monitor stops working. Using
the Unity Control Center I'm able to set laptop monitor as primary which
disables external monitor (and vice-versa). Tried manual switch to
mainline Linux 4.5 kernel, same thing. Tested on 14.04, 15.10, 16.04
  with same results.

However, if I plug the Asus monitor into the laptop via VGA, plug my Vox
TV into the laptop via HDMI, and set the resolution to 1280x720, it
displays fine on both the monitor and TV.

Also, the internal monitor and just HDMI together show properly.

However, if I adjust to 1080i, the above working dual screen configurations
show a graphical glitch:
  https://launchpadlibrarian.net/302517159/IMG_20170114_225834.jpg

Bug description:
Double-buffered compositing performance is sometimes artificially poor
on some intel systems. When this happens the frame rate seen is halved
  - about 30 FPS. However at the same time, Mir is observed to use very
little render time and both the CPU and GPU are still mostly idle.
It's just the Intel DRM logic sometimes takes two frames (~32ms) to
  complete a single page flip.

Two known workarounds avoid the issue:
(a) Add glFinish() into the mesa DisplayBuffer code; or
(b) env INTEL_DEBUG=sync for the Mir server binary.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1630455] Re: rhythmbox crashes soon after being start in Ubuntu 16.04.1 with rhythmdb_entry_get_entry_type: assertion 'entry != NULL' failed

2017-01-15 Thread martell
I'm also affected by this bug after upgrading to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

Deleting the rhythmdb.xml and importing the files again solves the
problem. But this means I lose my ratings on my songs and so I lose the
rating work I carefully did in the past. This is not what I want.

Comparing the old and new rhythmdb.xml I notice that the new file
contains an additional xml entry mtime. e.g.
"1237841180". This is the only difference I can see
between the files. So I suspect because this entry isn't present in the
old rhythmdb.xml file, it will trigger the 'entry != NULL' in the code.

I intend to try to add this entry in the old rhythmdb.xml for each song
by scripting and validate if this indeed solves the problem.

So this is an upgrade problem. The good solution would be dealing more
gracefully the missing entry.

Kind regards.

After digging for a while, it appears the issue is that vboxvideo does

Mir is the opposite now: Mir only supports PRIME but not flink names.

Internally some exceptions are being thrown in Mir at present, but we
seem to catch and silence them all. So you never see any error

For the record, Wayland supports falling back to flink names in the

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1643544] Re: HP Scanjet 7400c Scanner locks USB2 port

2017-01-15 Thread Wolf
I don't use the scanner daily, so I'm not completely certain. But as far
as I remember, the problems started in ubuntu 16.04 with a kernel 4.4.x.
At that time, I tried to go back to a prior kernel version, but that
failed for nvidia video driver reasons.

There is quite a number of problem reports at the sane mailing list
(sane-de...@lists.alioth.debian.org) - on the avision backend, and as
well on USB problems with other backends.

Here is one recent example:
http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/sane-devel/2017-January/034968.html

HP Scanjet 7400c Scanner locks USB2 port

Bug description:
When trying to scan with the hp7400c (avision backend), the scanner
will stop in the middle of the page, no further commands on a USB
mouse or keyboard are possible. xsane will throw a I/O device error.

This happens on my desktop with ubuntu 16.10 (Kernel 4.8.0-27) and my laptop
(kernel 4.4.0-38)
NO USB3 hardware is involved in my case, both machines have USB2-ports only,
lsmod does NOT show and xhci modules loaded.

  I tried the command
  SANE_DEBUG_AVISION=8 SANE_DEBUG_SANEI_USB=5 scanimage > scanfehlerxx.txt

  and produced the files attached.

  The key statement might be:

   [sanei_usb] sanei_usb_read_bulk: trying to read 61054 bytes
[sanei_usb] sanei_usb_read_bulk: read failed: No such device (it may have
been disconnected)
[avision] read 0 bytes
[avision] No data arrived.

This error occurs as well with Fedora 24, but NOT with debian 8.6. So
it may be related with the more recent kernels and their behaviour on
  the USB ports.

Title:
create new folder, text display disapears

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
After the most recent upgrade (It is now January 15, 2017 at 2:45
EST), I right-click on the desktop. Then I select the "Create New
Folder" value. When I select the "Rename..." value and then click on
the text box, the monitor display disappears from view, although the
keystrokes are recorded. The folder name appears after I press Return
but I have no feedback from the monitor as I press they keyboard keys.
