[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1657092] Re: deja-dup refers to "Files" instead of "Caja"

2017-01-29 Thread Russ Phillips
Yes, it works in Caja. I originally filed this against Ubuntu Mate,
thinking that it was something to be fixed in Mate, since Files isn't
the file manager in Mate :/

  It should say "or use Caja", since the file manager in Mate has been
  renamed Caja.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1659922] Re: Firefox 51.0.1 does not display pages/shows blank pages.

2017-01-29 Thread Thomas Mayer
Google translate translates comment 19 to "Thomas Mayer (thomas303),
after adding the owner /dev/shm/org.chromium.* rw in the patch and
Apparmor profile for Firefox Firefox earned. Thank you. But this is a
crutch, an update on the issue as there was no and no. Employees of
Canonical - Students who do not test software security."

@anikitushkin

There's no reason to believe that the package maintainers lowered
security by NOT applying necessary changes to the new requirements of FF
49+. It's rather the other way round: Not widening the apparmor profile
to the new requirements of FF is pretty conservative in terms of
security. It's just that apparmor blocking requirements of FF renders it
broken now - be it because of that conservative approach or because of
not testing at all. I agree, that should and could have been tested in
the first place, namely before releasing new major versions of FF.

Of course, the FF package needs to be updated to fix this issue for
average users. I'm not the maintainer of the FF package, which basically
means that I don't have permission to do that myself.

I guess that you can speed up Canonical's integration of the patch into
the official package by testing it and reporting back if it works. The
reason for that is that package maintainers hopefully become more
confident that the patch really fixes exactly this issue as long as
multiple users report exactly that, independently of each other.

@wfhammond My patch is tested by myself against 16.04 only. It's not
tested against 12.04 or 14.04. I'm not sure how that works out, would be
great if you can test it against 12.04, too.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1462515] Re: fglrx ldconfig priority should be above mesa's

2017-01-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

** Changed in: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Confirmed

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1462515

Title:
  fglrx ldconfig priority should be above mesa's

Status in fglrx-installer package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I'm using Ubuntu 14.10 on x64 with the latest updates.

  The Factor language dynamically loads ``libGL.so`` for its graphical
  environment. On machines with a Radeon card and the ``fglrx-updates``
  package, the preferred ``libGL.so`` path is
  ``/usr/lib/fglrx/libGL.so``.

  However, if ``libgl1-mesa-dev`` is installed, there's another
  ``libGL.so`` in ``/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so``.

  Now, I would like to remove `libgl1-mesa-dev`, except that it is
  required for `libgtkglext1-dev` which contains the function
  `gtk_gl_init()`, which is required for the graphical environment for
  Factor.

  The crux of the issue is that ``/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu`` has higher
priority than ``/usr/lib/fglrx``, so programs that load ``libGL.so`` find the
mesa version first:

  ```
  erg@erglinux:~$ ldconfig -v | grep "^/"
  /sbin/ldconfig.real: Path `/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu' given more than once
  /sbin/ldconfig.real: Path `/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu' given more than once
  /sbin/ldconfig.real: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ld-2.19.so is the dynamic linker,
ignoring
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfakeroot:
  /usr/local/lib:
  /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu:
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu:
  /sbin/ldconfig.real: /lib32/ld-2.19.so is the dynamic linker, ignoring
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa-egl:
  /usr/lib/fglrx:
  /usr/lib32/fglrx:
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mir/client8driver/mesa:
  /lib32:
  /usr/lib32:
  /lib:
  /usr/lib:
  ```

  Would there be anything wrong with moving the ``/usr/lib/fglrx`` entries
above ``/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu:``?

  This appears to be an issue with nvidia's binary drivers as well,
  since ``/usr/lib/nvidia`` gets searched after ``/usr/x86_64-linux-
  gnu``.

  Finally, if ``libgl1-mesa-dev`` wasn't required for
  ``libgtkglext1-dev``, that would also solve my problem because I
  wouldn't have the mesa drivers installed at all.

  Thanks,
  Doug

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1458322] Re: NetworkManager doesn't hide virtual interfaces (e.g. Docker, VMWare)

2017-01-29 Thread Oh the Huge Manatee
I tried it out on 1.2.2, since that's the version I have to work with. I
also had to patch applet-device-ethernet.c , otherwise it still listed
the header for each interface. Pushed my version up to
https://github.com/ohthehugemanatee/network-manager-applet for
convenience.

I only applied this hiding behavior to ethernet interfaces, because this
ticket is specific to virtual ethernet interfaces from docker, vagrant,
etc. I'm sure there are people who would like to hide other unmanaged
interfaces, too. TBH I would prefer a flag for "show-unmanaged", but
that discussion probably belongs in a separate ticket.

Patch attached. Sorry if the format isn't right, this is my first
contribution here.

** Patch added: "Hide unmanaged ethernet interfaces"

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1659922] Re: Firefox 51.0.1 does not display pages/shows blank pages.

2017-01-29 Thread Thomas Mayer
@wfhammond It is not necessary to build FF to test my patch from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1659988

The patch patches a config file only (an apparmor profile, to be
precise). Can be done in a text editor, too. With the patch applied, FF
51.0.1 should work again.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1659922] Re: Firefox 51.0.1 does not display pages/shows blank pages.

2017-01-29 Thread William F Hammond
I'm seeing this for the first time with my update yesterday, 28 Jan 2017
23:00 PST, pushed out with standard Ubuntu updates for Ubuntu 12.04.5
LTS.

I can see the default entrance page, the preferences page, and
about:config. But I cannot see any html pages. However, html
does appear to render in the frame title bar, and rolling the mouse
seems to show urls behind links in the normal way at the lower left
corner of the frame.

I'm not building firefox from source.

Is there a fix in about:config?

Otherwise could you push out a fixed build for the dpkg package
"firefox" within a few days?

Thanks.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1623666] Re: iOS device contents not displayed in Ubuntu

2017-01-29 Thread J. McDonald
I attempted following the instructions in #28 and I only got this far:

  $ cd ~/path/to/my/build/dir
  $ git clone https://github.com/libimobiledevice/libimobiledevice.git
  $ cd libimobiledevice
  $ ./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr/local/libimobiledevice
  $ make

and then I got the following message:

  make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.

I have no idea what this means.

  Vauge discussion that mentions using the latest git HEAD*:
  https://github.com/libimobiledevice/libimobiledevice/issues/327

  *This discussion is quite vague. One comment points out "iOS 10

  how or if that has been fixed in libimobiledevice git HEAD.

  This ppa packages the git version and may resolve the issue:

https://launchpad.net/~martin-salbaba/+archive/ubuntu/ppa+libimobiledevice/+packages

  There are several other upstream reports related to this problem.

  Partial success patch (idevicepair only) trying to keep GnuTLS:
  https://github.com/libimobiledevice/libimobiledevice/issues/413

  Failure with GnuTLS, Success with OpenSSL:
  https://gitlab.com/gnutls/gnutls/issues/145

  Ubuntu packages libimobiledevice with "--disable-openssl":
  https://github.com/libimobiledevice/ifuse/issues/32

  Duplicate bug 1638177 suggests to repackage libimobiledevice using
  OpenSSL to avoid this problem, as per comment 27 below.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1021375] Re: Nautilus says the USB stick is read only when it is not

Title:
  Nautilus says the USB stick is read only when it is not

Status in Nautilus:
  Confirmed
Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  First time I use an USB drive since I updated to 12.04 and I found a
  really annoying bug on Nautilus. Nautilus claims that the destination
  drive is read-only when in fact it is not.

  How to reproduce:

  1. Connect a USB stick drive to your competer.
  2. The USB will appear in the desktop.
  3. Open two Nautilus windows one in your home folder, other in the USB stick
drive.
  4. Select any file from your home folder (small enough to fit the free space
in the USB drive)
  5. Drag the file and drop it in the USB drive window.

  -- Nautilus will say that it cannot copy the file because the
  destination is read ony --

  If you try the copy the same file with the terminal you will see that
  the file is copied without problem, other programs like gedit or
  LibreOffice can write in the usb stick drive just fine.

  It is not a problem with the USB stick, as shown here:

  But nautilus just dennies to copy the file claming that the
  destination is read only, when it is not.

  I tested it with two different USB sticks in two different computers
  running Ubuntu 12.04 and the same result.

Just had this on my ages 16.10 with even more aged USB's that have

but nautilus gives RO error message. "killall nautilus" seemed to clear

Title:
  network-manager after suspend showing arrow icon instead of wifi icon
  and showing no wifi networks

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  As requested by Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre (cyphermox) in bug #1589401
  I'm creating my own bug report.

  1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->
About Ubuntu
  $ lsb_release -rd
  Description:  Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
  Release:  16.04

  2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname'
or by checking in Software Center
  $ apt-cache policy network-manager
  network-manager:
Installiert:   1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.3
Installationskandidat: 1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.3

Packages
  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
   1.1.93-0ubuntu4 500
  500 http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages

  3) What you expected to happen
  I'm connected by WiFi only, not by a wired connection. I expect to see the
WiFi icon anytime while being connected to my WiFi network. Also, I expect to
see all the WiFi networks around me (at least one other network with good
reception and about 3 with bad reception).

  4) What happened instead
  After waking up the laptop from suspend, there appears the ethernet icon
(arrow symbols) instead of the WiFi icon.
  Also, in this state there are no other WiFi networks visible in the
network-manager.
  However, the laptop is still connected with my WiFi and the connection works
as usual.
  Using "service network-manager restart" in the console I can get the wireless
icon back and all the other networks around me are visible again.
  This can be reproduced anytime and with 100% "success rate". The problem
appeared with Ubuntu 16.10 and was persistent since.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1660181] [NEW] Have to fetch users before getting groups and vice versa

2017-01-29 Thread David Hewitt
Public bug reported:

Tried to use oobs_groups_config_get_groups () to get the list of groups
available on the system and no groups were returned.

Calling oobs_users_config_get_users () on its own also returns no users.

get_groups has to be called before get_users works and get_users has to
be called before get_groups works.

I suspect this is because of line 306 in oobs-groupsconfig.c being the
following:
oobs_object_ensure_update (oobs_users_config_get ());

Should that not be the following?
oobs_object_ensure_update (oobs_groups_config_get ());

Line 428 in oobs-usersconfig.c is the reversed version of the same line.

** Affects: liboobs (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1627239] Re: Web pages not rendering with e10s enabled and AppArmor profile in enforce mode

2017-01-29 Thread MK
The patch of @Thomas Mayer only applies cleanly to LTS 16.04, while I
run 14.04.

@Sami Jaktholm:
I had to add another line to your proposal in comment #3 in
/etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.bin.firefox to get it running:

  /dev/shm/org.chromium.* rw,
  /run/shm/org.chromium.* rw,

Not only "/dev" but also "/run" seems to be necessary for 14.04.

  What should happen: The site is rendered properly.

  This is related to e10s and the default AppArmor profile shipped with

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1540110] Re: gnome-disk-utility (shown as "Disks") shows SMART option grayed for USB connect disks despite being available.

2017-01-29 Thread Turbo Nene
Maybe it is due to the fact (https://www.smartmontools.org/wiki
/Supported_USB-Devices) that USB connected disks usually need a '-d'
option to enable S.M.A.R.T. support.

In fact, for the same disk, trying first:

  $ sudo smartctl -d scsi -H -i -A -l error -l selftest '/dev/sdb'

gives "SMART support is: Unavailable - device lacks SMART capability.",
whereas:

  $ sudo smartctl -d scsi -d sat -H -i -A -l error -l selftest
'/dev/sdb'

gives "SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability.//SMART
support is: Enabled", and the full output expected.

And also in GSmartControl I have to add the "-d sat" option to
Preferences/Drives to enable S.M.A.R.T. support and view attributes.

The difficulty to include this in gnome-disk-utility is that each disk
needs a different "-d" option...

  that there is no problem reading SMART data through a USB link. gnome-
  disk-utility acknowledge SMART capabilities if the same disk is
  connected through a SATA port.

  Confirmed for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr on 2016-01-26, gnome-disk-
  utility 3.10.0, udisks 2.1.3 (built against 2.1.3) by Hans Deragon.

  This bug is the same as bug #1092900 which was reported against Ubuntu
  10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx. Following user dino99 suggestion, I opened this
  new bug report to follow the same problem on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty
  Tahr.

Title:
  gksu handles quoted strings wrongly

Status in gksu package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Reported upstream: https://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/index.php?40023

  To reproduce (based on http://askubuntu.com/a/288506/10371):

  Compare the first five commands:
  echo 'foo\ bar'
  sudo echo 'foo\ bar'
  gksudo -- echo 'foo\ bar'
  gksudo --su-mode -- echo 'foo\ bar'
  gksu --sudo-mode -- echo 'foo\ bar'

  To this:
  gksu -- echo 'foo\ bar'

  The last command prints "foo bar" rather than "foo\ bar" (excluding
  the quotes).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1660147] [NEW] video playback overlayed in wrong window

2017-01-29 Thread Joe
Public bug reported:

Steps involved:
Playing video on a bbc.co.uk/news article, dragged that tab off to create a new
window while the video was playing.

Result:
A new window, scrollable, with no video where the player should be, the video
is still playing on the other window, the video player can be interacted with
on the original window, playback is possible, the video scrolls with the new
window's tab (the bbc page) not with the original window (the mozilla wiki, as
shown in attached screenshot).

Solution: Refreshed new window

Reproducible?: Yes, dragging the refreshed tab to the other browser
leaves the video behind again.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1577170] Re: screen cannot be turned back on after being switched off after some time of inactivity

2017-01-29 Thread maenujem
I'm having the same error on Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS (4.4.0-59-generic,
64bit) with ATI RV570 [Radeon X1950 PRO]: if logged in or locked, after
the screen is turned off due to the inactivity time set in Ubuntu, it
can not be turned back on by hitting a key / moving the mouse. It has to
be rebooted manually. The error does not occur, if there is no logged-in
user.

Title:
  screen cannot be turned back on after being switched off after some
  time of inactivity

Status in xserver-xorg-video-ati package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  When using my AMD Radeon X1300 card, if the screen turns off due to
  inactivity, it cannot be woken up by moving the mouse or by hitting a
  key.

  When I kill the Xorg process via ssh with another computer, the screen
  then comes to life again and I can log back in.

  When I remove the AMD Radeon X1300 graphics card from the computer and
  use the built in graphics card instead, the bug doesn't occur.

  There is no problem waking the screen when I type "xset -display :0.0
  dpms force off" in a terminal. Moreover typing gnome-screensaver-
  command -a in a terminal turns my screen off and after typing this
  line, the screen can be woken up by moving the mouse or by hitting a
  key.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 875676] Re: Backing up fails with 'IOError CRC check failed'.

2017-01-29 Thread Niklas Sombert
I think I've got the same problem.

DejaDup with Ubuntu 16.04 prints the same error message and even
duplicity can't do anything in the backup folder. ("remove-older-than"
fails with "(, IOError('CRC check failed
0xb1276c7b != 0x9b944aa5L',), )".)

If I delete or move duplicity-new-
signatures.20160922T090645Z.to.20160929T083644Z.sigtar.gz, it might work
again.

But this is really not good.

  There is another similar bug #676767 where deleting ~/.cache/deja-dup

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1540110] Re: gnome-disk-utility (shown as "Disks") shows SMART option grayed for USB connect disks despite being available.

2017-01-29 Thread Turbo Nene
I confirm this bug on Linux Mint 18.1 with gnome-disk-utility 3.18.3.1
[UDisks 2.1.7 (built against 2.1.6)]

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop

Title:
  gnome-disk-utility (shown as "Disks") shows SMART option grayed for
  USB connect disks despite being available.

Status in gnome-disk-utility package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  gnome-disk-utility (show as "Disks" on the desktop environment running
  Unity) systematically does not acknowledge that disks have SMART
  capabilities when connected through a USB port; SMART capabilities are
  grayed. However, 'sudo smartctl -a /dev/' works fine confirming
  that there is no problem reading SMART data through a USB link. gnome-
  disk-utility acknowledge SMART capabilities if the same disk is
  connected through a SATA port.

  Tahr.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1627239] Re: Web pages not rendering with e10s enabled and AppArmor profile in enforce mode

2017-01-29 Thread MK
I do not think the proposed patch by @Thomas Mayer
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1659988/+attachment/4809979/+files/usr.bin.firefox.patch
completely disables apparmor for firefox, but allows access to certain
aspects of the system. Those access rights seem to be necessary to run
with e10s.

The thread author Sami proposed to just add shm/chromium rw in #3 but
this workaround does not fix the issue for me. So there have to be other
restrictions which prevent firefox e10s from running smoothly.

I will try the patch and report back.

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

  1. Open Firefox 49 with clean profile (or force-enable e10s as per
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Electrolysis#Force_Enable and restart Firefox)
  2. Go to any site

  What happens: The site loads but the content is rendered blank. The
  page is loaded properly since I can hover over (invisible) links and
  see the cursor change & the address to be shown in the bottom of the
  window.

  What should happen: The site is rendered properly.

  This is related to e10s and the default AppArmor profile shipped with
  firefox.

  See the attached screenshot for how the first-run page looks like with

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1627239] Re: Web pages not rendering with e10s enabled and AppArmor profile in enforce mode

2017-01-29 Thread Christoph
@Thomas Mayer 1659988 proposes to disable appamor for firefox. This
works, but is a very poor solution in terms of security. I prefer the
solution proposed by Sami Jaktholm (sjakthol) on 2016-09-25 in his 3'rd
post.
