Bug description:
The Yaru icon theme uses 1 pixel strokes for its symbolic icon set.
So do the breeze icons for libreoffice.

All in all does the breeze icon set for libre office fit very good to

Thus I would suggest to use it as the default icon set in Ubuntu to

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1866259] Re: Text clipped on password overlay dialogues

2020-03-08 Thread Matthew Ruffell
I did some extensive digging and found why it is fixed in Adwaita and
not Yaru.

Two weeks ago, the below commit was merged to gnome-shell. It checks to
see if the string width is longer than the box width, and if it is, it
switches to a hardcoded "leightweight" width of 13pt.

commit 80a869e7686adf772512069d7818bda0379190d8
Author: Jonas Dreßler
Date: Mon Feb 17 19:59:31 2020 +0100
Subject: dialogs: Use a smaller font-size if the title width exceeds the space

Link: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
shell/-/commit/80a869e7686adf772512069d7818bda0379190d8

This commit is present in the gnome-shell 3.35.91-1ubuntu2 package in
focal.

Looking at the upstream Yaru sources, this "leightweight" tag is already
merged, so I think this makes things Fix Committed.

https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/blob/master/gnome-shell/src/gnome-shell-
sass/widgets/_dialogs.scss#L32-L47

I built Yaru from source and tested it, and it works. For some reason
the title is not Bold, no idea why, but the user experience is much
better. Attached is a picture from upstream Yaru.

So Fix Committed. Will have to wait for Yaru master to land in Focal.

Title:
gnome-shell leaking memory when a customized AppImageLauncher is
  running

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Edited description:
To replicate the problem (on Ubuntu 19.10 running Ubuntu Gnome)
  1. Install AppImageLauncher from
https://github.com/TheAssassin/AppImageLauncher/releases by downloading version
2.1.0 deb file (appimagelauncher_2.1.0-travis897.d1be7e7.bionic_amd64.deb) and
install it. If necessary run
  sudo apt install -f
  to fix missing dependencies.

  2. Run it and change the appimage destination location to
~/apps/appimages. It is necessary to change it away from the default
setting in order for the problem to appear, though probably the actual
destination is not important). Ensure that Auto start auto-
  integration daemon is selected.

  3. Download an appimage (I downloaded Cura 4.4.1 from
  https://github.com/Ultimaker/Cura/releases/tag/4.4.1) I don't know
whether any appimage would do, probably it would. In fact I don't
know whether this step and the next need to be done at all.

  4. Open it with appimagelauncher (this can be done by double clicking
it in nautilus) and tell it to move it and run the application. Then
  close the application.

  5. It may be necessary to reboot at this point I don't know.

  6. Logon using Ubuntu (Gnome) and watch the memory usage of gnome-
shell. It may take a few minutes to get going but then the memory
used will start increasing at several MB/minute.

There is an issue open against appimage launcher which is likely the
  same problem.
  https://github.com/TheAssassin/AppImageLauncher/issues/294

  Original description:
On one of my machines which has been upgraded over several years and
is now running 19.10 just one of the configured users appears to be
seeing a dramatic memory leak in gnome-shell, even when nothing is
happening on the UI. Immediately after logging on, using the Ubuntu
selection from the logon screen, gnome shell shows as using about
134MB. From there it climbs at about 300MB per hour and after a few
hours the machine grinds to a crawl, not surprisingly. This happens
even if the user logs on and then the machine is left completely
alone. Logout and back in frees all the memory.
A test user I have configured sees no such problem.
I have uninstalled all extensions apart from the system ones, disabled
all the system ones and reset all the gnome settings using dconf reset
-f /org/gnome/ to no avail. Also I have removed
~/.local/share/gnome-shell and allowed it to recreate it.
Also I have removed .compiz, .config/dconf/user, .gconf, .gnome, .gnome2.
I can't see anything obvious in the log.
It must be something in my settings that is triggering it as the other
user does not see it, but I have run out of ideas on what to try.

I found the bug. The font-size is too large in .message-dialog-content

It is set to 18pt, but the largest it should be is 13pt.

nautilus window it is gone the next time I open a new tab / or window.
Files and folders marked as star from this view however, seem to be
persistent, since they are visible under "Starred" items shortcut in
left pane. This does seem to work from: "Documents", "Downloads",
"Music", "Pictures", or "Videos" view in left-pane. However it does
not work from "Home", or any other non-standard folders / views added
  as shortcuts to left pane.

There are no pending updates for the system at the time of writing.
All though I have not been able to test this on another computer, it
seems to be a bug, or other settings preventing persistence on my end.
If I add other columns like "Recency" instead, these for some reason
seem to stay persistent whenever I switch to a different view.

Have anyone else seen this phenomenon? From my view it seems like a
  bug.

As I understand, I should be able to right-click a file/folder and select
star. That option is not available though 'Starred' is now a location in
places. This option is missing under both Wayland and X.

2020-03-08 Thread Matthew Ruffell
I went and checked Yaru theme from Eoan, and the dialogue is displayed
correctly. Maybe something broke on the move to the new dialogue box? Attached
is the same gnome-disks dialogue on Eoan.
I still think the issue is the font is too big on the title of the new Yaru
theme dialogue box.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1866556] [NEW] On-screen keyboard (OSK) on touch screen does not seem to work at all under Xorg in Focal

2020-03-08 Thread Mario Vukelic
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Focal, the OSK never appears for me under Xorg
- Does not appear automatically when selecting text fields
- Cannot be summoned on-demand by swiping up from bottom screen border (which
worked on Eoan also under Xorg)

Under Wayland, both these things continued to work after the Focal
upgrade if the laptop is in tablet mode (but not if it is in regular
laptop mode - not sure if this changed on upgrade).

I could repro this on two "2-in-1" fold-able laptops:
Dell XPS 9575 2-in-1
Asus Zenbook flip UX561UD.

Title:
  [snap] Chromium snap starts slowly

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The problem is shown here, https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/call-for-
  testing-chromium-browser-deb-to-snap-transition/11179/141 more
  graphically.

Chromium snap takes quite a while to start and doesn't carry the
system theme, whereas the chromium-browser folder taken off the
  snap/chromium starts practically immediately.

The libcanberra-gtk3-module is missing inside the snap, and cannot use
  the module in the system.

The Chromium snap is 607.3 MB, while the standalone Chromium is 237.2
  MB, taken off the snap.

  Conclusion on Chromium snap on Ubuntu Eoan;
Two bugs and a missing module
  1) Starts slowly,
  2) Cannot carry the system theme,
  3) Doesn't have libcanberra-gtk3-module

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1865169] Re: volume and light not working in Gnome Shell 3.35

2020-03-08 Thread Paul White
@GonzoDark, not odd. Working as intended.

Only members of Bug Control and the original reporter can revert your
change. I've asked elsewhere for that change to be reverted although a
member of the Desktop Team may get here first. :)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1136644] Re: gedit search function is not practical anymore

2020-03-08 Thread dmnc
I switched back to gedit2 because this search function is terrible. But
I think this is a bad place because it is not a matter of the linux
distribution (Ubuntu) but Gnome gedit itself ... so folks, please
support "our thing" here:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gedit/issues/281

Title:
gedit search function is not practical anymore

Status in gedit package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
i use gedit a lot, and i find it comfortable in general.

the new small search window is extremely impractical. FOCUS PROBLEM:
CTRL+F > type a search (search of longer strings FAR TOO SLOW) > find
and now, typing ESC brings one back to the former place!
when trying to use CTRL-F again, the search string is replaced by new text.

if one wants to stay in the found passage, one must use the mouse/touchpad to
click into the text.

this is an extremely annoying feature/behavior.

i simply would like to have the old search window + its behavior back.
i am working very quickly and mostly using shortcuts.
gedit now completely interrupts my way of working.

additionally, where are the other search functions such as case-
  sensitive search?

additionally, i do not want the search function to slow down so much.
for me it is ok to start the search after i have finished typing my
search string :-) this new energy-consuming ZEITGEIST-etc-fashion is
not good for quick workers with serious amounts of data.

  best wishes, vollmanr
