  Chromium Browser (snap) Crashes when at-Sign is Entered

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  The Chromium Browser (snap) in version stable (88.0.4324.96) and beta
  (88.0.4324.87) crashes reproducibly if the at sign is entered via the
  keyboard.

  I'm using KDE Desktop and German keyboard layout, meaning the "at"
  sign is at the hotkey "AltGr-Q".

  Pressing this key immediately makes the Chromium window disappear
  without any further warning.

  On the next start, Chromium will complain about being stopped
  improperly during the last session and offers to restore the session.

  Concerning how common the at sign is on the internet, I think I don't need to
emphasize how annoying this is... ;)

Bug description:
  For many months now, whenever any mouse drag is attempted in an
  application using the gtk tool kit, the application immediately
  crashes. I've noticed this at least in Firefox and thunar. It also
  occurs when displaying these applications from a Virtualbox machine or
  from another server running something other than Ubuntu. The VM was
  running CentOS 8 and the remote server was running Mageia. Both
  Firefox and thunar run fine with Mageia's Xorg. It seems like the
  issue may be with the Xorg server on Ubuntu.

  I tried setting the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE variable to various settings but
  was unable to produce further debug output. The only other debug
  output I was able to gather is when running thunar with the --gtk-
  debug parameter (attached). I also tried running thunar with GDB but
  without recompiling it, it doesn't produce much information other than
  it's stopping in glib.

  Let me know what other information I can provide.

Title:
  [NVIDIA GeForce 7100] OS freeze after clicking certain things in GNOME
  / Unity

Status in xserver-xorg-video-nouveau package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Frequently, when clicking any of the following:
  * GNOME > GNOME Control Center
  * Unity > Activities
  * Unity > Activities > Maps application
  * Unity > Unity Control Center
  * Unity > Amazon link in the Launcher
  * Unity > System Settings link the Launcher

  the computer will freeze and I can't even switch to a login terminal
  and have to hard shutdown. I can usually avoid the bug if I don't
  click these things. Occasionally when this bug occurs the screen shows
  a terminal-like display with something like 'GPU lockup' written on
  it.

  This reproducible in:
  * Unity 16.10
  * GNOME 15.10
  * Unity 14.04
  * GNOME 14.04

  This doesn't happen in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS or Windows 8.

  This may be a regression from Linux 3.7 as per:
  https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=156690

  In 16.10, I tested 304.131 via https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
  /nvidia-graphics-drivers-304-updates but when I logged in, it would
  immediately show a black screen, and then go back to the login screen
  (with the login sound being played).

  WORKAROUND: It doesn't happen with GNOME Flashback.

Title:
  Firefox doesn't support HUD

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Currently, Firefox doesn't support HUD ( `mate-hud`, I assume Unity's
  HUD is also affected as per https://ubuntuunity.org/2020/06/05/hud-
  globalmenu-firefox/ ), as Martin Wimpress said in his Wimpy's World
  Discord server 27/03/2021 15:12 UTC 'Some apps are removing support
  for ModelMenu. That used to be a patch that Canonical contributed to
  Firefox, which is long since dropped.'

  Filing this bug as maybe a community member would want to re-introduce
  this patch. But if this is a Won't Fix please mark it as such, just
  wanted to get the issue logged as I can't find it elsewhere on
  Launchpad.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1921592] [NEW] Software app - snap interfaces management, under hood

2021-03-27 Thread Fifi Cek
Public bug reported:

GNOME guys kindly informed me it is Ubuntu Software app team where Software app
got snap support, hence my point raised here.
Ubuntu 20.04 with all updates installed, Firefox snap of latest stable released
version.
Gnome makers stress it was Ubuntu where Software app got snap support.

GNOME Software app > Firefox snap > Permissions > User your camera > ON

at the same time: (I can't get proper text presentation/formatting, sorry)

 $ snap connections firefox
 Interface Plug Slot Notes
 camera firefox:camera :camera manual

Let's change this setting as next:
GNOME Software app > Firefox snap > Permissions > User your camera > OFF

at the same time:

 $ snap connections firefox
 Interface Plug Slot Notes
 camera firefox:camera -

Similar behavior for Avahi interface (I guess all remaining too) - slot
side gets manipulated.

Actually setting in GUI is placed in Firefox snap. It doesn't seem to be
reasonable for engine under hood to manipulate interface slot-side.
Interface slot-side is under control of other snap or resource
controller not the Firefox snap. Reasonable would be rather to modify
plug-side on changes of shown app snap setting.

** Affects: gnome-software (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1888598] Re: Pulseaudio breaks HDMI audio on sleep/wake

someone has a link?

Title:
  Pulseaudio breaks HDMI audio on sleep/wake

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  on a fresh Ubuntu 20.04 x64 install, I've noticed some troubling bugs
  with pulseaudio after putting my system to sleep and then waking it
  up. these bugs aren't present on a fresh boot, only after resuming
  from sleep:

  - it forgets which sound output device it's set to, and always reverse to the
motherboard's S/PDIF output.
  - I have two devices connected to my video card, one is a displayport
monitor, and one is a home theater receiver via HDMI. it confuses the two, and
randomly switches which device it thinks is capable of surround sound.
  - it sometimes refuses to switch to the correct audio device, and just resets
any choice back to the internal S/PDIF, until the system is rebooted.

  as you can imagine, this a pretty frustrating state of affairs.

2021-03-27 Thread Sudavar
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1722478 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1722478

I am also having this problem on a Thinkpad T450s with
OS: elementary 5.1.7 Hera (built on Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS)
Kern: Linux 5.4.0-70-generic

The driver "restart" solution (sudo modprobe -r psmouse && sudo modprobe
psmouse) worked for me as well

  I would assume that it stumbles over the 1024 file descriptor limit and it
just cannot resolve a backup with that many incremental backups. Basically with
the current state of the software my incremental backups are worthless because
I cannot restore. Is there something that I can do except doing less frequent
incremental updates and more full backups?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1880086] Re: High latency when using the Nvidia-Xorg driver

2021-03-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package mutter - 3.38.4-1ubuntu1

---
mutter (3.38.4-1ubuntu1) hirsute; urgency=medium

  * Merge with debian, containing new upstream release.
  * debian/tests: Adapt autopkgtest name and linked library to current soname
  * debian/tests/control: Update references to libmutter-7-dev
  * debian/patches: Remove Input Thread backport patches.
It has been fun, but we decided to revert this, so here it is.
(LP: #1918874, LP: #1919310)
  * debian/control: Set breaks on gnome-shell 3.38.4.
That's the first version on which we'll remove the input thread patches
  * debian/libmutter-7-0.symbols: Revert symbol changes due to input thread
  * debian/patches: Add support for ABFR2101010 in v3d used by Raspberry Pi 4
(LP: #1896171)
  * debian/patches: Handle NVIDIA's zero presentation times (LP: #1880086)
  * debian/patches: Properly handle configuration events on windows
(LP: #191793)
  * Remaining changes with debian:
- debian/gbp.conf: update upstream branch to point to ubuntu/master
- debian/patches/x11-Add-support-for-fractional-scaling-using-Randr.patch:
  + X11: Add support for fractional scaling using Randr

mutter (3.38.4-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Team upload
  * New upstream release
- Fix Wayland spec compliance when reordering subsurfaces.
  This is likely to be required by future Firefox versions in native

mutter (3.38.4-1ubuntu1) hirsute; urgency=medium

  * Merge with debian, containing new upstream release.
  * debian/tests: Adapt autopkgtest name and linked library to current soname
  * debian/tests/control: Update references to libmutter-7-dev
  * debian/patches: Remove Input Thread backport patches.
It has been fun, but we decided to revert this, so here it is.
(LP: #1918874, LP: #1919310)
  * debian/control: Set breaks on gnome-shell 3.38.4.
That's the first version on which we'll remove the input thread patches
  * debian/libmutter-7-0.symbols: Revert symbol changes due to input thread
  * debian/patches: Add support for ABFR2101010 in v3d used by Raspberry Pi 4
(LP: #1896171)
  * debian/patches: Handle NVIDIA's zero presentation times (LP: #1880086)
  * debian/patches: Properly handle configuration events on windows
(LP: #191793)
  * Remaining changes with debian:
- debian/gbp.conf: update upstream branch to point to ubuntu/master
- debian/patches/x11-Add-support-for-fractional-scaling-using-Randr.patch:
  + X11: Add support for fractional scaling using Randr

mutter (3.38.4-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Team upload
  * New upstream release
- Fix Wayland spec compliance when reordering subsurfaces.
  This is likely to be required by future Firefox versions in native
  Wayland mode.
- Many other fixes that we already had via debian/patches
  * Drop most patches, included in the new upstream release

mutter (3.38.3-5) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Team upload

  [ Marco Trevisan (Treviño) ]
  * debian/patches: Include a missing commit from upstream gnome-3-38
branch to fix X11 UI stutters

mutter (3.38.3-4) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Team upload

  [ Marco Trevisan (Treviño) ]
  * debian/patches: cherry-pick more upstream gnome-3-38 fixes
- Correctly restore focus to applications that use globally active
  input handling, such as AWT/Swing Java apps
- Disable double buffered shadow buffering, which was intended to
  improve performance with e.g. llvmpipe but currently makes it worse
  * debian/tests: Adapt autopkgtest name and linked library to current soname
  * debian/tests/control: Update references to libmutter-7-dev

  [ Simon McVittie ]
  * d/patches: Update to commit 3.38.3-26-g30c542ddc from gnome-3-38 branch
- Fix X11 frame timing getting stuck if frames are skipped, resulting
  in X11 applications not always being redrawn when they should be
- Fix a crash when clicking below titlebar with broken GTK themes

  When using the Wayland session, I can't see a cursor moving when
  hovering with the pen. In the Xorg session a mouse cursor is shown
  that follows the pen as I hover over the display.

  It would be nice to have the cursor for two reasons:

  1. Being able to target more precisely
  2. When doing presentations people can see when I highlight something with
the cursor.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1921588] [NEW] Firefox doesn't support HUD

2021-03-27 Thread Ads20000
Public bug reported:

Currently, Firefox doesn't support HUD ( `mate-hud`, I assume Unity's
HUD is also affected as per https://ubuntuunity.org/2020/06/05/hud-
globalmenu-firefox/ ), as Martin Wimpress said in his Wimpy's World
Discord server 27/03/2021 15:12 UTC 'Some apps are removing support for
ModelMenu.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1918874] Re: [regression] Application windows appear over the icon grid when Ubuntu Dock or Dash To Dock is loaded

2021-03-27 Thread Treviño
So, as I was suspecting at the beginning this would have been fixed by
latest upstream changes on the dock and so it's now fixed by
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-
dock/69ubuntu1

However, sadly, it's too late for the the input thread patches as we've
reverted them now:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1921587] [NEW] Login screen language is same as last used application

2021-03-27 Thread Milfred Notmyname
Public bug reported:

When the screen locks, the keyboard language will be the same as the
last used application.

To reproduce:
1. Ensure that at least two keyboard layouts are added.
2. Tick the "allow different sources for each window" option in the input
sources selection configuration.
3. Start an application and switch keyboard layout using the chosen hot key
combination.
4. Wait until the screen locks.

The login screen will now use the keyboard layout of the selected
application. Furthermore, the hot-key combination to switch keyboard
layout only works partly when the screen is locked. This is annoying
since the keys will now be in the wrong place for typing the password,
and it is necessary to use the mouse to get the correct layout. To fix
this, the login screen should reset the keyboard language to the default
one when it locks the screen.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1876716] Re: Error transferring track: "could not open resource for writing" when copying tracks to library

2021-03-27 Thread crvi
Fill the Album and Artist text fields in the rhythmbox CD ui, before
pressing 'Extract'.

Rhythmbox will place the extracted tracks in the appropriate folder
based on 'Album' and 'Artist', thereby avoiding this error.

Status in rhythmbox package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I tried adding my old iTunes music folder into my (empty) Rhythmbox
  library having the option 'Copy files that are outside the music
  library' checked. After clicking 'Import 4974 listed tracks'.

  Expected behaviour:
  all files should've been copied to my Rhythmbox media folder.

  What happened instead:
  the copy process got interupted with the following error:

  Error transferring track: "could not open resource for writing"
  Only a few tracks where copied, I was able to press the button a few more
times to copy a few more tracks, but then Rhythmbox crashed/closed and I had to
restart it.

  I also tried it with just a few tracks. That worked, but the same error
message came up when trying to copy tracks that were added to the library
before.

Bug description:
  When I switch the language on my Oneiric Live CD, other XDG

  user-dirs-update, ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs is updated to the correct
  translation. So I suppose that the default Live CD user is created by
  some not-localized hackish solution.

  If this seems not so important, since installed systems have the
  "Desktop" directory translated all right (at least I hope so, because
  my system has), it certainly affects all Ubuntu localized Live-CDs and
  makes them fail the basic "translated or not surface check".

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1876716] Re: Error transferring track: "could not open resource for writing" when copying tracks to library

2021-03-27 Thread Paul Chabanon
Hello,

I am using Rhythmbox 3.4.3-2 on debian 10 and this bug is a real problem
when it comes to import tracks from a cd where the names of said tracks
can not be found one the internet. All tracks are named the same
("Inconnu" in french, probably "unknown" in english) and it triggers the
bug while reachinf the second track.

I think this is a real issue and would suggest raising the importance of
it.

Thanks

30 seconds of wait before anything happens.
