[Desktop-packages] [Bug 462564]
The case is even more serious, since the attempt to only delete a column can delete the entire table: The table has 3 columns and three rows. I merge the cells of row #3. In column 3, I select the cells in row #1 and row #2. >From the icons menus, I select Delete selected columns. Result: My table is deleted. Expected: The selected columns should be deleted, i.e. merged into a neighboring column. Thus, after nine years, the original report by uls6502 can be confirmed 100%, although this is a rather serious bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/462564 Title: [Upstream] Deleting a column in Writer deletes whole table Status in LibreOffice: Confirmed Status in OpenOffice: Invalid Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in openoffice.org package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: Binary package hint: openoffice.org 1) lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 11.04 Release: 11.04 2) apt-cache policy libreoffice-writer libreoffice-writer: Installed: 1:3.3.3-1ubuntu2 Candidate: 1:3.3.3-1ubuntu2 Version table: *** 1:3.3.3-1ubuntu2 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty-updates/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu4 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages 3) What is expected to happen in LibreOffice Writer via the Terminal: cd ~/Desktop && wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/462564/+attachment/894856/+files/test.odt && lowriter -nologo test.odt is when one highlights the second column of the table -> secondary clicks -> Column -> Delete is only that column is deleted. Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1924889] Re: intel display drivers not working
Hi Chris, Thank you very much for your reply. When I have installed Ubuntu on my new desktop with Gigabyte B560m DS3H AC mother board with Intel core i7 11700k processor, I am getting 1024 X 768 as default resolution which I am not able to change and also display is coming as unknown and graphics llvmpipe (LLVM 12.0.0, 256 bits) instead of showing Intel UHD 750. I tried many things including updating kernel to 5.11.15 nothing is working out. Please help me. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1924889] Re: intel display drivers not working
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future users from hitting the same bug. xserver-xorg-video-intel is an old 'intel' driver that is no longer maintained being depreciated. I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg. https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1924889 Title: intel display drivers not working Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: intel display drivers UHD intel graphics 750 not working in ubuntu 20.10 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.10 Package: xorg 1:7.7+19ubuntu15 Uname: Linux 5.11.15-051115-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu50.5 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: Error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/log/boot.log' CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sun Apr 18 10:04:50 2021 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: groovy DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: rtl8821ce, 5.5.2.1, 5.8.0-50-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: I just need to know a workaround GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation RocketLake-S GT1 [UHD Graphics 750] [8086:4c8a] (rev 04) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd Device [1458:d000] InstallationDate: Installed on 2021-04-17 (0 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 20.10 "Groovy Gorilla" - Release amd64 (20201022) MachineType: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Public bug reported: I1m using UBUNTU 20.04 Problem: Occasionally there is a failure to display on the screen with parts alternating colors and characters exchanged in the terminal (only in the terminal). Control characters are displayed on the terminal and "blink" effects occur on some lines. First symptom: The firefox update made the browser screen (just inside the browser screen) appear many black blocks over the texts and images, corrected with the deactivation of the use of graphical acceleration. Second symptom: after an update of ubuntu, he started to have a problem in the terminal, with control characters being displayed and a change in the mapping of the keyboard keys BUT this error does not happen in GEdit. Current symptom: when I open the terminal, the favorite icons on the edge of the screen where the terminal was opened change color alternately. Hi Glen, I understand and we've all been there (installing stuff manually that comes to bite us later). Realistically, the best thing to do is to remove libreoffice and install it from the Ubuntu archive (apt). But I also understand you wanting to keep around what is already working for you. So can you give me a paste of the output of "dpkg -l | grep libreoffice"? It sounds like libreoffice is half installed (from apt's perspective). Also, when you installed libreoffice manually, what did you install (version) and how do you launch it? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1924684 Title: package libreoffice-common (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/bin/soffice', which is also in package openoffice-debian-menus 4.1.9-9805 Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Previously I somehow managed to manually install libreoffice. I've been using it for months now and want to keep using it. Recently within the Spreadsheet app ("OpenOffice Calc"), it said that an update was available. Tried to update within the app itself, but that failed so I left it as-is at least for a week or more. Today when I did a "sudo apt upgrade -y", that command is now erroring out with unmet dependencies, something to do with libreoffice-core. I haven't figured out what to do about it yet. See https://pastebin.com/B4TKtbwp I'm unsure what to do about this. Please email me at g...@glencooper.com if you have any suggestions. At the very minimum I would like to keep my system up-to-date with making it so the "sudo apt upgrade -y" command doesn't error out. Thanks! [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1924852] Re: Selected output device in Sound settings is not persisted across restarts
It seems that whenever you connect a new device it is set as the currently active one. I suspect the device selected as active after the restart is simply the last one to load. I just tried this with 3 devices: 1. at first have device A and B connected to the computer and have B selected as active 2. connect new device C 3. I can see C becoming automatically the active device 4. disconnect device C from computer 5. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1882525] Re: [amdgpu] MATE desktop is corrupted upon login on Ryzen APU
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users. ** Changed in: marco (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1882525 Title: [amdgpu] MATE desktop is corrupted upon login on Ryzen APU Status in marco package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in mesa package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Today I upgraded from Ubuntu MATE 19.10 to 20.04. After doing so, Ubuntu boots normally to the display manager (login screen) as expected. But once I log in, everything on the screen is cut up into horizontal slices, with each slice offset farther right than the slice above, and squares of random colors running diagonally across the screen. I've attached a picture of my monitor showing the issue for reference. My hardware is a home-built PC with an ASUS Prime B450M motherboard, a Ryzen 3 2200G APU, and using that APU's integrated graphics. In terms of software I'm running Ubuntu 20.04, which I just upgraded to and did a software update on. I have Linux 5.4.0-33-generic, X.Org 1.20.8, and Mesa 20.0.4. Before I upgraded Ubuntu, I was affected by Bug #1880041 but it seems fixed in the new kernel. I don't believe they're related but I figure it's worth mentioning. I tried adding the nomodeset kernel option at boot, and it's an effective workaround. Also, I tried booting from an Ubuntu Mate 20.04 live USB to see if this was caused by some quirk of my particular software setup, and successfully reproduced the bug, proving it wasn't. If you'd like me to, I can provide log files, system information, etc. or help narrow it down by testing workarounds. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1924846] [NEW] [550-254ng, Nvidia GPU 60 HDMI/DP, Digital Out, DisplayPort] Crackling sound during quiet parts of video, with DisplayPort only
Public bug reported: When I play YouTube videos, then in the quiet parts of the video (i.e. in pauses between sentences, even if they are very brief), I hear a popping/crackling sound on my headphones connected through my DisplayPort monitor and my Nvidia GeForce GTX 745 card (I have this PC: https://www.notebooksbilliger.de/hp+pavilion+550+254ng+intel+core+i5+6400 and an Asus PB248Q monitor). Depending on the video and how many pauses the speakers make, this is very annoying. I've run a long series of experiments, see https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=48=347176 for details. In summary, I can reproduce this: - With any installed Linux OSes (Ubuntu or Mint) or with live sticks (tried Ubuntu, Mint, PopOS and Manjaro). - With the open-source driver (Nouveau) or with various versions of the Nvidia driver. - With Chrome or Firefox or even an Audacity recording (from the DisplayPort output's audio monitor in PulseAudio) of the same audio stream. - Even when I try the usual fixes like tsched=0, disabling module-suspend-on-idle, disabling /sys/module/snd_hda_intel/parameters/power_save or position_fix=1 or =2. - Even when I don't use PulseAudio, but use `apulse ffplay ...` to play a file directly to ALSA. - NOT on Windows. Any browser and any video/sound file works fine on Windows with exactly the same hardware. - NOT with HDMI. The same card/monitor/headphones connected over HDMI (aka. "HDMI / DisplayPort 3" aka. "hdmi-stereo-extra2" aka. device number 8 aka. "HDMI 2") works fine. Only over DisplayPort (aka. "HDMI / DisplayPort 4" aka. "hdmi-stereo-extra3" aka. device number 9 aka. "HDMI 3") it crackles. - NOT when I save the problematic Audacity recording as a wav/mp3 file (and play it in any media player or with `apulse aplay ...`) or when I convert it to 16-Bit PCM in Audacity (and back to 32-bit float). My suspicion is that this somehow gets rid of the pauses / quiet parts by writing sth like zeros in there. - NOT when I have some other continuous audio running at the same time, e.g. if I turn on some radio in Rhythmbox and play the problematic video at the same time, there's no crackles. Again my suspicion is that this gets rid of the quiet parts -- not in the video, but in the mixed stream sent to the audio device. This bug report is produced from `ubuntu-bug audio` on a freshly created Ubuntu LTS live USB stick with all default values, where I've just reconfirmed that DisplayPort is broken and HDMI works. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1001035] Re: lightdm uses a hardcoded path to .xsession-errors, please make it configurable
Any update on this? I'd love to move xsession-errors file out of my SSD to minimize writes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to lightdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1001035 Title: lightdm uses a hardcoded path to .xsession-errors, please make it configurable Status in Light Display Manager: Triaged Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: LightDM uses always $HOME/.xsession-errors as the log file because is harcoded in xsession.c. But sometimes you want to use a logfile outside your $HOME, suposse your $HOME is in an SSD and you want to minimize writes, so you want to put it in /tmp/${USER}_xsession-errors for example. If you try to make a $HOME/.xsession_errors -> /tmp/{$USER}_xsession-errors symlink to cheat LightDM, then LightDM will recreate the $HOME/.xsession_errors file and the hack will not work. LightDM _always_ recreates $HOME/.xsession_errors and you can't change it without recompiling. So, I think this log file needs to be configurable, or at least preserve the symlink if one is present. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1923632] Re: Screen flickering
For lswh read lshw - sorry! This problem is pretty bad on my system - it becomes unusable after a while. I will have to avoid any kernel upgrades. Given that the problem seems to happen after a while, and then gets worse and worse, I wonder whether it is some sort of corruption issue that gets worse as the corruption grows. It doesn't seem to be a fundamental graphics issue that happens every time a certain set of actions takes place. That probably means it will be difficult to track down, and may vary a lot between systems.
