[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1909970] Re: Fonts is not responding

2021-04-29 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for your interest in helping to resolve this issue. In order to
get to the bottom of this we need to figure out where the program is
hanging. If you can follow the steps on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace#Already_running_programs and attach
the generated text file to this bug it would be of great help.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1926083] Re: Autocorrect is broken even on default English locale

2021-04-29 Thread mikechege
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1925379 ***

Libreoffice won't capitalise the first letter of a sentence and the
LanguageTool grammar checker is very sluggish, if it works at all.

Autocorrect is broken even on default English locale

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Have Ubuntu 21.04 boot or installed
  2. Launch LibreOffice Writer
  3. Type `HEllo` or `:alien:`, press

  Expected results:
  * `HEllo` is transformed to `Hello` after pressing ; `:alien:` is
transformed to `` after pressing

  Actual results:
  * AutoCorrect does not work, reacts only on (which is not real
use-case), so AutoCorrect is broken. It is serious bug.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1736222] Re: speech-dispatcher distorts all sound

2021-04-29 Thread Coeur Noir
So it's not fixed in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS,
where speech-dispatcher is 0.9.1-4

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop
Packages, which is subscribed to speech-dispatcher in Ubuntu.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1736222

Title:
  speech-dispatcher distorts all sound

Status in speech-dispatcher package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
So, a brand new computer running Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS.
In hardinfo summary, my audio adapters are
  • HDA-Intel - HDA Intel HDMI
  • HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
  • HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
In detail: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor HD Audio
Controller (rev 06)
  Memory 16kb (non-prefetchable), snd_hda_intel

As soon as I load a website in Firefox that utilizes speech-dispatcher
(fimfiction.net) all sounds get distorted, whether I click a paragraph
for TTS reading or not. The problem seems to go away if I don't use
the site after a while. When I close down Firefox the problem still
lingers a bit, but maybe not as long. One thing I did which seemed
faster was close down everything, then load what I wanted to listen to
(Skype, Discord), and if it still persisted I would go into "Sound
Settings" and after a few blinks in that window the sound is normal
  again.

While the site is open, according to "Sound Settings" (from the
speaker icon menu) and Pulse Audio Volume Controller (pavu) there are
4 copies of this package. Muting them did not help the problem, but
moving one of them, and a very specific one, from the "Built-in Audio
Analog Stereo" to something else like HDA NVidia (HDMI 3) seems to be
  a workaround.

Just so you know, I do not use the HDMI cable for sound, but instead
use the "headphones" jack. If you need any more details, I'll try to
  provide them.

  /Edward

Title:
Full text search does not work

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in nautilus source package in Bionic:
  Fix Released
Status in nautilus source package in Cosmic:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  * Impact
The text search feature, which is depending on tracker, is not working even
when the service is installed

  * Test case
  - install tracker and restart your session
  - echo 'Nautilus is great' > ~/txt
  - open nautilus and type 'great' in the search entry

-> the file should be listed

  * Regression potential

That's changing the search provider logic, make sure that searching
for file without tracker still works (that only look at filenames) and
there is no extra logging/cpu usage

  ---

Background: I have installed Tracker. It has finished indexing. I can
also use Tracker's command line interface to search by content.

  1.

  Description: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
  Release: 18.04

  2.

  nautilus:
    Installed: 1:3.26.3-0ubuntu4

   *** 1:3.26.3-0ubuntu4 500
  500 http://fi.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages
  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

  3. I expect to be able to search files by content from Nautilus,
because this feature worked in 17.10.

  4. I get no results from full text search unless the search matches
  file names.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1926652] Re: gedit on launch shows only an image of the desktop

2021-04-29 Thread Sharad
Yes, it does seem similar to #1760818.

.xinputrc has a line:

run_im xim

I will try commenting that out and then see if it fixes the problem

... that seemed to fix it, although I'm now getting a "Failed to load
module "canberra-gtk-module" " message.

  [Availability]
ccid is in universe, and builds on all architectures.

  [Rationale]
The desktop team and security team are interested in bringing smartcard
  authentication to enterprise desktop environments.

  [Security]
No CVEs for ccid are listed in our database.
Doesn't appear to bind to a socket.
No privileged executables, but does have udev rules.
  Probably needs a security review.

  [Quality assurance]
  No test suite.
Does require odd hardware that we'll probably need to buy.
  I don't see debconf questions.
ccid is well maintained in Debian by upstream author.
One open wishlist bug in BTS, harmless.

One open bug in launchpad, not security, but looks very frustrating
for the users. The upstream author was engaged but it never reached
  resolution. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ccid/+bug/1175465

  Has a debian/watch file.
  Quilt packaging.

  P: ccid source: no-dep5-copyright
  P: ccid source: package-uses-experimental-debhelper-compat-version 13

  [Dependencies]
  Minimal dependencies, in main

  [Standards compliance]
Appears to satisfy FHS and Debian policy

  [Maintenance]
The desktop team will subscribe to bugs, however it is expected that the
security team will assist with security-relevant questions.

  [Background information]
ccid provides drivers to interact with usb-connected smart card readers.

  [Security]
  No CVEs in our database.
Doesn't appear to bind to sockets.
No privileged executables (but is a PAM module).
As a PAM module this will require a security review.

  [Quality assurance]
The package does not call pam-auth-update in its postinst #1650366
Does not ask questions during install.
One Ubuntu bug claims very poor behaviour if a card isn't plugged in.
  No Debian bugs.
Occasional updates in Debian by long-term maintainer.
Does require odd hardware that we'll probably need to buy.
Does not appear to run tests during build.
Has scary warnings in the build logs.
  Has a debian/watch file.

Ancient standards version; other smaller lintian messages, mostly
  documentation problems.

  Quilt packaging.

  [Dependencies]
  Depends on libcurl4, libldap-2.4-2, libpam0g, libpcsclite1, libssl1.1
  All are in main.

  [Standards compliance]
The package does not call pam-auth-update in its postinst #1650366
Otherwise looks to conform to FHS and Debian policies

  [Maintenance]
The desktop team will subscribe to bugs, however it is expected that the
security team will assist with security-relevant questions.

  [Background information]
This PAM module can use CRLs and full-chain verification of certificates.
It can also do LDAP, AD, and Kerberos username mapping.

  [Security]
There are no cves for pcsc-perl in our database.
  No privileged executables.
Doesn't appear to bind to sockets.
  Probably needs a security review.

  [Quality assurance]
Library package not intended to be used directly.
  No debconf questions.
  No bugs in Debian.
  No bugs in Ubuntu.
Does require odd hardware that we'll probably need to buy.
Tests exist, not run during the build; probably can't run during the build.
  Includes debian/watch file.
  A handful of lintian issues
  Quilt packaging.

  [Dependencies]
  libpcsc-perl depends upon libpcsclite1, libc6, perl, perlapi-5.30.0.
  All are in main.

  [Standards compliance]
One oddity, Card.pod is stored in
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl5/5.30/Chipcard/PCSC/
Many other perl packages have .pod files in these directory trees so maybe
it's fine, but it seems funny all

  https://people.canonical.com/~rbalint/zstd-debs/ contains a .deb built
on Hirsute having both data and control members of the .deb being
compressed with zstd. It can be handy for testing various tools.

Decompression support in dpkg landed first in Bionic and is being SRUd to
Xenial in LP: #1764220 enable Launchpad's Xenial systems to process the
zstd-compressed binary packages.
From dpkg's perspective the upgrade path is cleared.

The original plan was compressing only the internal data.tar .deb

I don't get where that ID is, but I can give you the SegvAnalysis and
SegvReason.

SegvAnalysis:
Segfault happened at: 0x7fe3af904691 <__memmove_avx_unaligned_erms+33>: vmovdqu
%ymm0,(%rdi)
PC (0x7fe3af904691) ok

SegvReason:
writing NULL VMA

Also please add a copying feature to the bug report app lol, I had to
type that all out.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1926657] Re: Nautilus segfaults

2021-04-29 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1926009] Re: Incomplete display of text

2021-04-29 Thread Mark Burns
I am happy to report that this issue looks to have been resolved.

The roll back took a bit of time to do, and I am still not sure that I
did it fully correctly. However it did the trick.

I also note that there were some subsequent updates to both the Mesa
libraries, and xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu driver, amongst which was a
fix.

Thank you, Sebastien, for all your help. it is very much appreciated.

Many thanks,
Mark.

The issue occurs regardless of me use the current or previous kernel

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1926652] [NEW] gedit on launch shows only an image of the desktop

Public bug reported:

gedit opens, but all that is displayed in the app window is an image

for 3 days because this problem does not have a pattern. It seems to
happen when the system is under high load, but I'm not sure.

Title:
Hirsute: Cannot install ubuntu-desktop due to unmet dependencies

Status in apt package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I'm using the ubuntu-21.04-live-server-amd64 ISO to install my hirsute
desktop machines so I can automate the installation.

After installation, I'm trying to install the desktop via "apt install
  ubuntu-desktop".

  This fails with:
"Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
   ubuntu-release-upgrader-gtk : Depends: ubuntu-release-upgrader-core (=
1:21.04.11) but 1:21.04.10 is to be installed
 Depends: python3-distupgrade (= 1:21.04.11)
but 1:21.04.10 is to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages."

  "apt policy ubuntu-release-upgrader-core" shows:
  "ubuntu-release-upgrader-core:
Installed: 1:21.04.10
Candidate: 1:21.04.10
Version table:

I could not find any information what "phased 20%" means. It's obviously a
major problem not being able to install the desktop on a fresh installation.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1736222] Re: speech-dispatcher distorts all sound

2021-04-29 Thread Lin Manfu
This bug is reported
(https://github.com/brailcom/speechd/issues/446#issuecomment-740828838)
to be fixed in speechd 0.10.0 and higher. The 0.10.1 release notes
(https://github.com/brailcom/speechd/releases/tag/0.10.1) include "Fix
default pulse latency to 10ms to avoid pulseaudio distorted output."

Title:
  speech-dispatcher distorts all sound

  /Edward

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1736222] Re: speech-dispatcher distorts all sound

2021-04-29 Thread Lin Manfu
This bug is still present in Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS, running KDE Plasma.

I can duplicate the mystery "Speech Dispatcher" items in the volume
control and the "killall speech-dispatcher" temporarily works around the
bug.

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1736222

Title:
  speech-dispatcher distorts all sound

  /Edward

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1892559] Re: [MIR] ccid libpam-pkcs1 libpcsc-perl opensc pcsc-tools pcsc-lite

2021-04-29 Thread Treviño
Hi,

Related to the desktop team specific needs, I wanted to mention that at
the current state we don't expect to need or support pam-pkcs11 given
that we want to rely only on pam-sss (that should be at this time more
than enough for any need), other than being already in main.

So, while in debian [1] (and ubuntu) I've added both profiles for pam-
sss and pam-pkcs11 the latter is mainly untested and not default (can be
seleceted with update-alternatives in case).

Said this, if there are not other requirements for it, I'd consider it
safe to be dropped from the MIR list from our POV.

Regarding pcscd, however... I think we need it.
I've done my testing with limited hardware here (mostly my national healthcare
card) but that's only supported by opensc-pkcs11 IF pcscd is installed.

So I've the feeling we can't downgrade pcscd to a simple suggestion in
most of the cases.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1925792] Re: XKB layout variants not shown in the menu of respective language but under Others

2021-04-29 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Good to hear that you now see the difference. And thank *you* for
calling our attention to it — first at Ask Ubuntu and then here. That
will make it possible to get the fix out to everyone early (in about a
week).

Bug description:
  [Impact]

The GUI in gnome-control-center for adding input sources is broken.
The XKB layout variants should be visible in the menu of respective
language, but instead they are all shown under "Others".

The issue has a potential to cause confusion for a lot of users.

  [Test Plan]

  1. Open Settings -> Region & Language and press the + button
to open the window for adding input sources.

  2. Click "English (United States)".

-> Find far fewer options than expected

  3. Install the gnome-desktop3 binaries from hirsute-proposed and
 relogin (or possibly reboot).

  4. Repeat 1. and 2.

-> Find the expected input source options

  [Where problems could occur]

The fix is a cherry picked oneliner which was committed upstream on
February 16 in order to address this issue. Very hard to see how it
  would affect anything else adversely.

  [Original description]

Ubuntu 21-04 installed from scratch (on dual-boot) a few days before
  stable release.

To be able to switch to a language that requires a keyboard different
than my own, I used the GUI's "language and region" settings > "manage
installed languages" > install/remove languages. I found "Russian" and
it was added. Next i pressed the + sign. Selecting "Russian (Russian
Federation)" yielded 2 keyboards: "Russian", "Russian (Polyglot and
  Reactionary)".

Neither keyboard was "phonetic". The phonetic keyboard has been with
the standard Ubuntu installs for at least ten years.

According to Gunnar Hjalmarsson "Ubuntu 21.04 is shipped with the same
version of the xkb-data package as in 20.04 and 20.10, so nothing has
changed. And multiple variants are available, including the one named
Russian (phonetic)." So this should be fairly easy to fix, no?

I find that the language settings are a little too complicated for me
to tamper with on the terminal, but I am including the information I
  was able to collect:

  ~$ locale -a
  C
  C.UTF-8
  en_AG
  en_AG.utf8
  ...
  nb_NO.utf8
  POSIX
  ru_RU.utf8
  ru_UA.utf8

  $ setxkbmap -print -verbose
Trying to build keymap using the following components:
  keycodes: evdev+aliases(qwerty)
  types: complete
  compat: complete
  symbols:pc+us+inet(evdev)
  geometry: pc(pc105)
  xkb_keymap {
   xkb_keycodes  { include "evdev+aliases(qwerty)"  };
   xkb_types { include "complete"   };
   xkb_compat{ include "complete"   };
   xkb_symbols   { include "pc+us+inet(evdev)"  };
   xkb_geometry  { include "pc(pc105)"  };
  };

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1882291] Re: Gnome Shell clock is truncated/corrupt on the right side

2021-04-29 Thread Leon White
I'm experiencing this in Ubuntu Groovy 20.10 as well, but I generally
only notice it in the gnome top panel. Moving the mouse over the clock
or attempting to take a screenshot clears the display error. I've
attached photos of my screen and submitted details from `apport-
collect`, let me know if I can provide anything else.

  ~$ locale -a
  C
  C.UTF-8
  en_AG
  en_AG.utf8
  ...
  nb_NO.utf8
  POSIX
  ru_RU.utf8
  ru_UA.utf8

  $ setxkbmap -print -verbose
Trying to build keymap using the following components:
  keycodes: evdev+aliases(qwerty)
  types: complete
  compat: complete
  symbols:pc+us+inet(evdev)
  geometry: pc(pc105)
  xkb_keymap {
   xkb_keycodes  { include "evdev+aliases(qwerty)"  };
   xkb_types { include "complete"   };
   xkb_compat{ include "complete"   };
   xkb_symbols   { include "pc+us+inet(evdev)"  };

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 299330] Re: Alt+Tab - switching applications delay. slow

2021-04-29 Thread Stephan Henningsen
This is still a problem on Ubuntu 20.04. Since it uses a completely
different desktop environment, the bug probably has a different root
cause, but the annoying user experience is exactly the same.

Bug description:
After hitting Alt+Tab it takes about .5 second before the application switch
applet will be displayed.
on windows XP this application switching window comes up instantly. In Ubuntu
I would consider it annoyingly slow

My config. Ubuntu 8.10, plain Gnome

Another issue, it that Shift+Alt+Tab does not navigate the
applications in reverse order, the way it works in XP. That would be
nice if it's fixed too. Thank you!!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1925792] Re: XKB layout variants not shown in the menu of respective language but under Others

2021-04-29 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I got the impression that you had enabled hirsute-proposed...

These steps should do it:

1. Open Software & Updates and check Pre-released updates in the
Developer Options tab.

2. sudo apt update

3. sudo apt install libgnome-desktop-3-19 gnome-desktop3-data
gir1.2-gnomedesktop-3.0

(note: That's one single line, even if Launchpad breaks it up.)

4. Open Software & Updates and uncheck Pre-released updates in the
Developer Options tab.

5. sudo apt update

6. Relogin/reboot.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1926574] [NEW] Not possible to share windows in a video conference

2021-04-29 Thread Alexander Kallenbach
Public bug reported:

I don't know if it is the right package against which I opened the bug report.
Unfortunately, under the new Ubuntu version 21.04, it is not possible to share
windows of many applications in videoconferences (due to Wayland?). This is a
big problem considering that many in the current pandemic work in
videoconferences on a daily basis.

Title:
Not possible to share windows in a video conference

  New

Bug description:
I don't know if it is the right package against which I opened the bug report.
Unfortunately, under the new Ubuntu version 21.04, it is not possible to
share windows of many applications in videoconferences (due to Wayland?). This
is a big problem considering that many in the current pandemic work in
videoconferences on a daily basis.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1821415] Please test proposed package

2021-04-29 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Brian, or anyone else affected,

Accepted apport into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/2.20.11-0ubuntu27.17 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

The plymouth apport source package hooks wants to gather log files as the
root user and apport provides a policy kit policy for collecting that
information. This works fine in a graphical environment but not in a
non-graphical one.

  [Test Case]
  1) ssh into an Ubuntu Desktop install of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS or Ubuntu 20.10
  2) sudo touch /var/log/plymouth-debug.log
  3) ubuntu@disco:~$ ubuntu-bug plymouth

  This incident has been reported.

With the version of apport from -proposed you will not see the
"AUTHENTICATION FAILED" error and the plymouth-debug.log file will be
  collected.

  [Where Problems Could Occur]
It's possible that the spawned pkttyagent process does not get cleaned up
properly and could be left running. When testing the SRU we should confirm it
is not still running.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1926261] Re: PPTX is opened in Draw not in Impress

2021-04-29 Thread Alexander Kallenbach
Standardanwendung für

libreoffice-impress.desktop
Registrierte Anwendungen:
libreoffice-impress.desktop
org.gnome.FileRoller.desktop
org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop
Empfohlene Anwendungen:
libreoffice-impress.desktop

In Nautilus the default association has been set to impress. I tried to change
it, and changed it back to impress. But still the presentation is opened in
Draw.

As described above. I just preformed the upgrade to Ubuntu 21.04. Before
everything worked fine.

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Affected package: libreoffice-common (1:6.4.7-0ubuntu0.20.04.1, focal-
  updates)

While investigating the reason for lot of aa messages flooding my
kernel logs, I noticed a (supposed) typo in the file
  /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/oosplash at line 17. I guess
  'libreoffice-oopslash' should be 'libreoffice-oopslash'.

It seems that the issue has already been reported one and a half years ago:
  https://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/2019/msg00812.html

  Fix: Edit /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/oosplash, systemctl reload-or-
restart apparmor.service, aa-remove-unknown to remove libreoffice-
  oopslash aka :-O/

PS: My initial "issue" that is filling up my /var/log/kern.log
persists, but this might be a misconfiguration on my side. :-)
