So it's not fixed in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, where speech-dispatcher is 0.9.1-4 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to speech-dispatcher in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1736222 Title: speech-dispatcher distorts all sound Status in speech-dispatcher package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: So, a brand new computer running Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS. In hardinfo summary, my audio adapters are • HDA-Intel - HDA Intel HDMI • HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH • HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia In detail: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor HD Audio Controller (rev 06) Memory 16kb (non-prefetchable), snd_hda_intel As soon as I load a website in Firefox that utilizes speech-dispatcher (fimfiction.net) all sounds get distorted, whether I click a paragraph for TTS reading or not. The problem seems to go away if I don't use the site after a while. When I close down Firefox the problem still lingers a bit, but maybe not as long. One thing I did which seemed faster was close down everything, then load what I wanted to listen to (Skype, Discord), and if it still persisted I would go into "Sound Settings" and after a few blinks in that window the sound is normal again. While the site is open, according to "Sound Settings" (from the speaker icon menu) and Pulse Audio Volume Controller (pavu) there are 4 copies of this package. Muting them did not help the problem, but moving one of them, and a very specific one, from the "Built-in Audio Analog Stereo" to something else like HDA NVidia (HDMI 3) seems to be a workaround. Just so you know, I do not use the HDMI cable for sound, but instead use the "headphones" jack. If you need any more details, I'll try to provide them. /Edward To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/speech-dispatcher/+bug/1736222/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1926657] Re: Nautilus segfaults
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1926657 Title: Nautilus segfaults Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Ubuntu Release: Description:Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS Release:20.04 Package version: nautilus: Installed: 1:3.36.3-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 1:3.36.3-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 1:3.36.3-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://hr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:3.36.1.1-1ubuntu2 500 500 http://hr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages Expectation: I expect nautilus to open in the given directory. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1926009] Re: Incomplete display of text
I am happy to report that this issue looks to have been resolved. The roll back took a bit of time to do, and I am still not sure that I did it fully correctly. However it did the trick. I also note that there were some subsequent updates to both the Mesa libraries, and xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu driver, amongst which was a fix. Thank you, Sebastien, for all your help. it is very much appreciated. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1926110] Re: Apps interface flickering
Update: so far, the system has not shown any irregularities. I'll wait for 3 days because this problem does not have a pattern. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1892559] Re: [MIR] ccid libpam-pkcs1 libpcsc-perl opensc pcsc-tools pcsc-lite
Hi, Related to the desktop team specific needs, I wanted to mention that at the current state we don't expect to need or support pam-pkcs11 given that we want to rely only on pam-sss (that should be at this time more than enough for any need), other than being already in main. So, while in debian [1] (and ubuntu) I've added both profiles for pam- sss and pam-pkcs11 the latter is mainly untested and not default (can be seleceted with update-alternatives in case). Said this, if there are not other requirements for it, I'd consider it safe to be dropped from the MIR list from our POV. Regarding pcscd, however... I think we need it. I've done my testing with limited hardware here (mostly my national healthcare card) but that's only supported by opensc-pkcs11 IF pcscd is installed. So I've the feeling we can't downgrade pcscd to a simple suggestion in most of the cases. The XKB layout variants should be visible in the menu of respective language, but instead they are all shown under "Others". The issue has a potential to cause confusion for a lot of users. [Test Plan] 1. Open Settings -> Region & Language and press the + button to open the window for adding input sources. 2. Click "English (United States)". -> Find far fewer options than expected 3. Install the gnome-desktop3 binaries from hirsute-proposed and relogin (or possibly reboot). 4. Repeat 1. and 2. -> Find the expected input source options [Where problems could occur] The fix is a cherry picked oneliner which was committed upstream on February 16 in order to address this issue. Very hard to see how it would affect anything else adversely. [Original description] Ubuntu 21-04 installed from scratch (on dual-boot) a few days before stable release. To be able to switch to a language that requires a keyboard different than my own, I used the GUI's "language and region" settings > "manage installed languages" > install/remove languages. I found "Russian" and it was added. Next i pressed the + sign. Selecting "Russian (Russian Federation)" yielded 2 keyboards: "Russian", "Russian (Polyglot and Reactionary)". Neither keyboard was "phonetic". The phonetic keyboard has been with the standard Ubuntu installs for at least ten years. According to Gunnar Hjalmarsson "Ubuntu 21.04 is shipped with the same version of the xkb-data package as in 20.04 and 20.10, so nothing has changed. And multiple variants are available, including the one named Russian (phonetic)." So this should be fairly easy to fix, no? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1926341] Re: Sinister usb-modeswitch behavior
It seems only the switching (on WiFi mode) from 4G to 3G and network cut is device's faulty (I'll complain about it on vendor). Only mobile broadband works well, but I can't use mobile broadband on Ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to usb-modeswitch in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1926341 Title: Sinister usb-modeswitch behavior Status in usb-modeswitch package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I reported similar bug in last year, but since I didn't have enough information it got closed. But now I more than sure about this issue. This is still a problem on Ubuntu 20.04.
