Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The HDMI audio on the onboard ATI RADEON 3000 (RS780 driver, GA78LMT
motherboard) does not work without tweaks in GRUB.

Expected behavior: sound working over HDMI.

Real behavior: no sound at all.

Solution: I installed "GRUB Customizer" and put the following command
in the kernel parameter (which I found after a lot of research):
  "quiet splash radeon.audio = 1"

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1918269] Re: moving tabs to a new window no longer works.

didn't.

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Somewhat similar to bug #999632, but different and quite new.

When I have a tab that I want to move to a NEW window, I used to be
able to drag the tab and then when releasing it near the tab bar of
another chromium window, it would snap into that window's tab list.
  This still works.

But when I release the tab NOT near the tab bar of another window, it
used to create a new window. This is convenient: I have multiple
screens so when I decide I need to view this tab alongside something
in my existing window, I drag the tab to create a new window on the
  other screen.

Workaround: create a new window first then drag the tab there. But
this "used to work". It is not necessary to do it like this. I liked
  it the old way.

This changed somewhere in the last week. The behaviour swapped on my home
computer yesterday (but it was still normal at work) and today I had to restart
chromium (because all new tabs were reporting "aw snap!", reported in another
bugreport) and now it's here too. Package: chromium

  sudo apt update

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1872802] Re: Resizing any window will randomly result in graphics corruption for a fraction of a second (in Xorg sessions)

2021-05-09 Thread David
I tried to install both, Ubuntu 20.04.2 lts and pop_os 20.04, this
glitch when resizing is the only problem I can't fix. Both were fresh
installations so i assume it is present and I couldn't find a solution
other than to enable wayland. I don't know how to change
GRUB_DEFAULT_LINUX or disable a device that crashes the laptop (I can
disable it with xinput and then no problem). That's why I haven't
changed to wayland. But the bug is still there.

2021-05-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. VLC and Mplayer do not enable hardware
acceleration by default that I know of. So high CPU is expected. Please
try using 'mpv' for the most performant experience.

If I have missed anything then please state it here in this bug instead
of providing external links.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1872802] Re: Resizing any window will randomly result in graphics corruption for a fraction of a second (in Xorg sessions)

2021-05-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I haven't seen this problem happen for a couple of months so suspect it
should have been closed already for Ubuntu. For PopOS, that is usually
on slightly different package versions so we can't track bugs for that
here.

Is anyone still experiencing this bug in regular Ubuntu?

2021-05-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. The first thing I notice is your kernel log
(CurrentDmesg.txt) is showing some kind of repeating hardware failure
related to 'pcieport'. Was there any release of Ubuntu you have used
that did not have this problem?

Happens to me in a razer blade stealth (late 2016) Intel UHD Graphics
620. This happens with Ubuntu or pop_os 20.04, this doesn't happen with
wayland in Ubuntu 21.04, sadly wayland is not a viable option for this
laptop

Bug description:

  Description: Ubuntu 21.04
  Release: 21.04

  package version : kernel-image 5.11.0-16-generic

what I expect to happen : to show my desktop correctly on second hdmi monitor
what happens : static effect like shown in attached photo

Since upgrade to hirsute (21.04) from groovy (20.10) my hdmi port on
my graphic card stopped to work correctly and started to display
static effect on second monitor, as you can see from the attached
  photo.

  Here it is mine videocards:
  Code:

  $ lspci | grep VGA
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
RS880M [Mobility Radeon HD 4225/4250]
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
Park [Mobility Radeon HD 5430/5450/5470]

I was able to test it with 3 different kernels :
  Code:

  5.12.1-051201-generic # last mainline kernel
5.11.0-16-generic # last official kernel from hirsute
5.8.0-50-generic # probably a old kernel still there from groovy

Only the older one, 5.8.0-50-generic was working correctly with dual

Title:
[HP Pavilion 15] Keyboard does not work immediately on Ubuntu login
  page (but 'i8042.nopnp' fixes it)

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have a problem with logging into Ubuntu, i.e. in the login window I
cannot enter the password for 10-20 seconds (most often with a cold
start) the keyboard does not work (laptop keyboard). After several
seconds, the keyboard starts and I can enter the password. I tested on
"clean" versions of Ubuntu 20.04.2.0 LTS, 20.10 (also with Kernel
5.10), 21.04. The problem occurs on the HP Pavilion 15-eg0016nw laptop
with an Intel Core i7-1135G7 processor (also occurs on the HP Pavilion
  15-eg0073cl with Intel Core i7-1165G7).

During normal operation, the keyboard works without any problems - the
problem is only when logging into the system.

I am using the latest BIOS version (F.12), but I have also used older
  versions: F.5 and F.11.

Another user with the HP Pavilion 15-eg0073cl laptop (a very similar laptop
model) has the same problem:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1926799] Re: Cursor is not rendered in the correct location when at maximum desktop zoom

   Status: Incomplete => New

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop
Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu.

Title:
Cursor is not rendered in the correct location when at maximum desktop
  zoom

Status in GNOME Shell:
  Unknown
Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Affected version
  LSB Version:
core-11.1.0ubuntu2-noarch:printing-11.1.0ubuntu2-noarch:security-11.1.0ubuntu2-noarch

  Gnome Version: 3.38.4
  Occurs in: Xorg and Wayland

  Bug summary

  1. zoom focus shifts - lets assume a window in the center of the
screen and i am at 3x zoom and i try to point my mouse at something
and try to click that. 90% of the time zoom focus shifts away from the
mouse location to mostly top left corner of the screen.

  2. mouse pointing away from the object - Similarly when i reach above
some zoom limit sets say 4x and now lets say i am in a browser trying
to click a link i point at the link cursor changes to hand and when i
try to click i couldnt. So i try to zoom out and i fid that the
pointer was not exactly placed on the link. To sum up when zoomed in
it seems like i am pointing at a link while the cursor is actually
  placed away from the link

  3. Compressing text - after reaching certain high zoom level as said
4x or 5x the content on the screen becomes a bit compressed on the
sides texts and images and everything on screen becomes elongated

  Steps to reproduce

  1. Turn on zoom from settings -> Accessibility
  2. Zoom in above 3.x
  3. Try clicking on some object inside a window
  4. Choose Follow mouse cursor or on screen part droopdown choose full screen.
  5. My current settings are Screen part: Full Screen, Magnifier cursor pushes
content arround. However these issues persist with all the other options under
magnifier position. Such as Follow mouse cursor or magnifier cursor pushes
content arround or any such option provided.
  Screenshot_from_2021-05-03_14-37-09

  What happened

  1. Zoom focus shifts away from the cursor mostly towards top left of the
window or the desktop.
2.While zoomed in cursor seems to be placed above a link or an object but is
actually placed awway either to the left or right of the object. Original
position of the cursor reveals when zoomed out.
3.Content on screen seems to be compressed from the sides as text and other
objects appear elongated.

I have also posted the same issue on the GNOME Community:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1927831] Re: Problem with Network Manager GUI on LXQt environment (Lubuntu 20.04 LTS and Lubuntu 21.04)

2021-05-09 Thread Piotr
@Chris Guiver it is not nm-tray. I prefer network-manager-gnome and I
used it. I also not installed Lubuntu. I used live session for testing
(booted from USB and not installed OS to hard drive).

Network Manager works but like I said if I click left button of the mouse this
result no action. Only click of the right button works. I think that you
checked nm-tray instead GNOME Network Manager.

  Dear Community,

I have problem with Network Manager GUI. On Lubuntu 20.04 LTS and
Lubuntu 21.04 when I click left mouse button on the icon of network
manager this didn't work and window is not showed. Only right click of
the mouse is working on this icon. I don't know if it problem with
LXQt or with all Desktop Environments on focal. I checked and on
Fedora 34 Spins this works normally and like we knot this disto also
use LXQt so I think that this is not problem with LXQt itself. Can you
  fix it?

My distro: Lubuntu 20.04.2 LTS (without updates, clear iso downloaded
from ubuntu mirror and booted for testing)

P.S. I can't report bug with apport because my wi-fi didn't work on
live session because I can't remember my password.

  Yours faithfully,
  Piotr

Deleting VLC does not solve. I added `SystemMaxUse=50M` to
`/etc/systemd/journald.conf` which may help about disk space. Biggest
problem for me though is it is constantly maxing out 1 CPU core via
xorg, unless it's a coincidence.

  2. Optionally pause it.

  3. Switch to another user.

The original user's ~/.xsession-errors will rapidly fill up with
errors along the lines of "vdpau_chroma filter error".

At the same time, errors are put in /var/log/syslog as well:

[7f9d604810a0] vdpau_chroma filter error: video mixer features failure:

[7f9d604810a0] vdpau_chroma filter error: video mixer attributes failure:

[7f9d604810a0] vdpau_chroma filter error: video mixer rendering failure:

  (repeat ad nauseum)

At least one of the two will rapidly fill up its partition and
  problems will arise.

With AMD video hardware and driver, the video continues playing - you
can hear the sound despite being in the other user.

and I can do my thing.

  Since trying 21.04 sometimes this
  1. does not appear properly - there is no visible text window
  2. does not disappear - despite what I click on or what keys do I press this
never disappear so I can not use my running applications or start anything new
even from the menu.

I have to log out and in to break this.

Disabling my gnome-shell extensions or using xorg instead of wayland
  does not helps.

Since upgrading this morning this happens every time I press Super,

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1927854] [NEW] Warning when updating to version 0.3.10

2021-05-09 Thread Oliver Klee
Public bug reported:

I have updated to usb-creator-kde using aptitude. During the update,
this warning is displayed:

/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/usbcreator/frontends/kde/frontend.py:140:
SyntaxWarning: "is not" with a literal. Did you mean "!="?
  if self.__img is not '':

(I don't know whether this problem also occurred with earlier versions,
i.e., whether is it a regression. I also don't know whether this problem
only affects the update or also the installation.)
