[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1942425] Re: Gnome shell crashes after locking screen
It looks like your extensions are experiencing a number of problems. Please open the 'Extensions' app and disable all extensions. Now log in again to see if the bug still occurs. Also... Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1942314] Re: Crashes/bugs on Dual GPU 20.04 / 21.04
Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Summary changed: - XOrg crashes/bugs on Dual GPU 20.04 / 21.04 + Crashes/bugs on Dual GPU 20.04 / 21.04 ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => xfce4-session (Ubuntu) ** Also affects: marco (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - Crashes/bugs on Dual GPU 20.04 / 21.04 + Crashes/bugs with dual GPUs when using Nvidia-470 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1942314 Title: Crashes/bugs with dual GPUs when using Nvidia-470 Status in marco package in Ubuntu: New Status in xfce4-session package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Install 20.04 or 21.04, install the proprietary drivers. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1532508] Re: Screen contents revealed briefly on resume, before even unlocking
I don't think we need new bug reports about this. I've just fixed the concern about "unrelated packages" by removing the irrelevant tasks at the top of the page. Only the gnome-shell task remains open. What we really need here is clear instructions for how to reproduce the bug in GNOME using a recent Ubuntu release. ** No longer affects: gdm3 (Ubuntu) ** Project changed: ubuntu-gnome => mir ** No longer affects: mir ** Tags added: hirsute -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1532508 Title: Screen contents revealed briefly on resume, before even unlocking Status in GNOME Shell: Unknown Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in unity source package in Xenial: Fix Released Status in gnome-shell package in Debian: Confirmed Bug description: [Impact] When lock is enabled, the screen doesn't get blank/covered by lockscreen before suspending, thus on early resume the content might be shown. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1532508] Re: Screen contents revealed briefly on resume, before even unlocking
omid, this bug report covers too many unrelated packages to be useful at this point. If you're still seeing desktop contents during resume with a currently supported version of Ubuntu, please file a new bug report with details on the specific packages you're using and steps to reproduce the issue. There's no guarantee that it can be addressed but a new bug report with one specific configuration has a chance. Bug reports are free. Specific bugs can get fixed. Bugs that collect a bunch of unrelated things are rarely fixed, there's just too much noise to find anything useful. Because this bug (among several related bugs) returns in one or more screenlocker / desktop environment every year or two, the reliable answer is to always manually lock the screen before walking away from the computer. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1941977] Re: PC streams music over low-quality HFP/SCO connection, instead of A2DP/AVDTP
For comparison, I've attached these Android HCI snoop logs, taken when the same headset initiates a connection to an Android handset this time. >From ~22:00:50 UTC when the ACL was connected between them, one can see that the handset remains chill, allowing the headset to connect any profiles its heart desires. The headset happened to connect only HFP and A2DP signalling here, before going "silent". Then precisely 2s later, the handset accepts the responsibility of connecting the rest -- it connects A2DP media, while the headset then connects AVRCP (probably on some internal timeout). Within 500ms, everything relevant had been connected and configured, and media streaming was underway, showing none of the issues I found with my PC. ** Attachment added: "HeadsetInitiated_Android10.cfa" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1941977/+attachment/5522608/+files/HeadsetInitiated_Android10.cfa -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1941977 Title: PC streams music over low-quality HFP/SCO connection, instead of A2DP/AVDTP Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: This issue was first discovered when I got this headset 2 years back: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01C2QCPYI. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1941977] Re: PC streams music over low-quality HFP/SCO connection, instead of A2DP/AVDTP
Nope, if anything, it's even worse. On Indri, the PC audio doesn't even get streamed over SCO at all -- the media channel just gets disconnected when Bluez times out in the middle of an AVDTP SET_CONFIGURATION. Here, as before, both headset and Bluez are jockeying for first to connect/setup A2DP and the headset isn't handling this contest well. At the end of the whole thing, the headset just disconnects and the PC audio plays through the internal speakers. Bluez needs to wait for the designated 2s already in its code, before attempting to connect any profiles it suspects the other side failed to connect. I've attached snoop and syslogs taken during the Indri test. There should be more than enough data here already for someone to check this out, especially with the explanation offered in earlier comments. ** Attachment added: "Syslog taken when the headset initiates the connection on Impish Indri" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1941977/+attachment/5522606/+files/syslog_HeadsetInitiated_Indri -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1941977 Title: PC streams music over low-quality HFP/SCO connection, instead of A2DP/AVDTP Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: This issue was first discovered when I got this headset 2 years back: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01C2QCPYI. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1756547] Re: LP refuses to import plural strings where e.g. msgstr[0] entries in PO file miss %d
Go to: https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/impish/+source/gnome- shell/+imports and open the info for e.g. po/kk.po. It tells you that this part from the PO file was not imported: #~ msgid "%d new message" #~ msgid_plural "%d new messages" #~ msgstr[0] "%d жаңа хабарлама" #~ msgid "%d new notification" #~ msgid_plural "%d new notifications" #~ msgstr[0] "%d жаңа ескерту" But those entries are marked with '#~', i.e. they are old entries from a previous version of the template. So what I'm wondering is if it's sensible that LP validates and tries to import such entries. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1756547 Title: LP refuses to import plural strings where e.g. msgstr[0] entries in PO file miss %d Status in Launchpad itself: Fix Released Status in Ubuntu Translations: Triaged Status in gettext package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Bug description: Some strings of GNOME Shell are untranslated in the Czech translation on Ubuntu 18.04 although they are translated upstream and when I try to manually translate them on launchpad, I get this error: "number of format specifications in 'msgid_plural' and 'msgstr[0]' does not match". The following 2 modems need the ModemManager suite to be upgraded: * Foxconn SDX55 T99W175 5G sub6 PCIE Modem * Quectel SDX24 EM160R-GL 4G LTE CAT16 PCIE Modem The main fix requested is to add the FCC unlock mechanism for Foxconn modems. * FCC unlock operation for Foxconn modems https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mobile-broadband/ModemManager/-/merge_requests/534/commits * dms: new 'Foxconn Set FCC authentication' command https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mobile-broadband/libqmi/-/merge_requests/254/commits The minimum versions of the ModemManager suite required to enable the support for the above 2 mentioned modems have been verified: (LP: #1928665) * ModemManager: 1.16.6 * libmbim: 1.24.8 * libqmi : 1.28.6 The ModemManager suite in the Impish release meets the requirements. [Test Plan] = How to Reproduce the Bug = Execute the following commands to list the modems detected by ModemManager in Hirsute and Focal releases: $ mmcli --list-modems No modems were found = Test Procedure = 1. Install the Ubuntu system on the tested hardware The following images will be used to verify the version of the ModemManager suite: * Impish: https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/impish-desktop-amd64.iso * Hirsute: https://releases.ubuntu.com/21.04/ubuntu-21.04-desktop-amd64.iso * Focal: https://releases.ubuntu.com/focal/ubuntu-20.04.2.0-desktop-amd64.iso 2. Upgrade the kernel and driver ( for Foxconn and Quectel modem ) The kernel needs to get some patches from 5.13 and includes a back ported Quectel driver to support these 2 modems. We have prepared a kernel packages for testing: https://people.canonical.com/~mschiu77/lp1928665/v2/ 3. Install the ModemManager suite ( for Hirsute and Focal releases ) The ModemManager suite will be installed from the -proposed component: $ sudo apt update $ sudo apt install modemmanager $ sudo apt install libqmi-utils 4. Execute the following commands 4.1 Get the run-time environment $ uname -ar $ lsb_release -a $ mmcli -V $ qmicli -V 4.2 Check the status of the ModemManager service $ sudo systemctl status ModemManager.service 4.3 List the detected modems $ mmcli --list-modems 4.4 Check the modem’s status $ mmcli --modem 0 4.5 Install and execute Lenovo’s FCC unlock app ( for Quectel modem only ) $ sudo snap install --devmode --dangerous dpr-wwan_1.0-wwan- test_amd64.snap 4.6 Enable the detected modem $ sudo mmcli --modem 0 --enable 4.7 Check the modem’s status $ mmcli --modem 0 = Analyze the Tested Result = 1. Check if installed packages are working The result of test procedure 4.1 and 4.2 can be used to make sure the installed packages are working. If the Modemmanager.service is active(running), the packages are working. 2. Check if the supported modem can be detected The result of test procedure 4.3 can be used to see if the modem can be detected by ModemManager or not. The supported modems should be listed. 3. Check if the modem can be enabled If the modem can be enabled, the state of the modem in the test procedure 4.7 will be set to be registered. = Certification Validation = Additionally to the aforementioned test cases, the Certification Team will perform some coverage testing across supported devices to make sure the other modems still work as expected. [Where problems could occur] There is a risk that modems supported in the old versions of ModemManager suite may not be supported in the newer versions. [Other Info] We need to upgrade to these 3 packages (in Impish) at the same time: * ModemManager: 1.16.6 * libmbim: 1.24.8 * libqmi : 1.28.6 To support the mentioned 2 modems, the system needs to use kernels which include specific patches and kernel config options . For ex., there is a patched 5.11 kernel

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1942432] [NEW] third-party applications freeze gdm3 reproducibly
Public bug reported: On my Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS, I have reproducible freezes of gdm3 (3.36.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.4) caused by third-party applications. The only thing I found describing my problem was https://unix.stackexchange.com/a/39855 (passage *GUI Glitches Causing Unresponsive WM or X11/Wayland*). This is exactly my experience ("**an application stops responding and prevents you from entering input with the keyboard or mouse to other application windows**"). Specifically: - clicking on a hyperlink in (an open mail in) thunderbird freezes gdm3 at 90%. - opening files via nemo (file manager) freezes gdm3 sometimes, regardless which file type. - libreoffice freezes gdm3 a lot when switching windows via alt-tab, but not when I switch windows via super key. Whenever a freeze occurs, the clock in my taskbar stops, the mouse and keyboard still work, but no window responds. Switching to tty works. Killing the last used application (e.g. thunderbird, nemo, soffice.bin) via tty brings gdm3 to life again. The funny thing is that when e.g. I open a link via thunderbird and gdm3 freezes, then I kill thunderbird via tty and switch back to X, then thunderbird is gone but firefox has opened the link. I activated gdm3 debug output but could not find anything (I'm not an ubuntu/X/gdm expert). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1941752] Re: Regression: exiv2 0.27.3-3ubuntu1.5 makes Gwenview crash when opening images exported by darktable
gwenview crashes every time when I try to open any image. Not darktable related. It started after some regular apt update done a few weeks ago. I had 18.04 LTS, so decided to upgrade to latest LTS (Focal). And to my surprise the same error still exists: terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::out_of_range' what(): basic_string::at: __n (which is 19) >= this->size() (which is 19) Package: exiv2 Version: 0.27.2-8ubuntu2.6 Package: gwenview Version: 4:19.12.3-0ubuntu2 I'm on kubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to exiv2 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1941752 Title: Regression: exiv2 0.27.3-3ubuntu1.5 makes Gwenview crash when opening images exported by darktable Status in Gwenview: Unknown Status in exiv2 package in Ubuntu: New Status in gwenview package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Since the recent security update of exiv2, Gwenview crashes when trying to open image files that got exported by darktable. Steps to reproduce: * Make a test installation of Kubuntu 21.04 in VirtualBox * Install all updates * Install darktable * Copy one of the images in /usr/share/wallpapers (or any other image) to your home directory and open it with darktable * Within darktable, export a copy of the image (no need to do any actual modifications) * Try to open that copy with Gwenview. Gwenview will crash. I'm attaching a crash report hinting that this is related to exiv2. Temporary workaround: If I downgrade libexiv2-27 to 0.27.3-3ubuntu1.4, Gwenview doesn't crash, so it seems the crash is related to changes in 0.27.3-3ubuntu1.5. I don't know if the underlying cause is actually some bug in exiv2, Gwenview or darktable.
