[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1948667] Re: Elantech Touchpad not working on Fujitsu E5410
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-libinput (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-libinput in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1948667 Title: Elantech Touchpad not working on Fujitsu E5410 Status in xserver-xorg-input-libinput package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The Fujitsu E5410 (model type 5E14A1 according to the bottom sticker) is supplied with an Elantech(?) Touchpad. This apparently requires i2c_hid and does not properly work in Ubuntu 20.04. It seems also to interfere with the (internal) keyboard. Problem behavior: booting Ubuntu 20.04 with kernel 5.11.0-27: keyboard works, touchpad is not recognized. Running sudo modprobe i2c_hid manually from a terminal sometimes results in the touchpad working. Sometimes however the keyboard does not recognize any input anymore. After rebooting, approx 1/2 times the keyboard is not working anymore. Making sudo modprobe i2c_hid permanent via /etc/modules-load.d/ permanently crashes the keyboard on startup such that it is impossible to log in. booting with kernel 5.14.0-1004-oem: sudo modprobe i2c_hid has no effect, the touchpad is never recognized. Booting with this kernel, 9/10 times the keyboard is not recognized at all and one cannot log in. Permanently loading the module via /etc/modules-load.d has no effect. booting with kernel 5.14.9-051409 (a mainline kernel from ppa:tuxinvader/lts-mainline ): modprobing the i2c_hid module has no effect. The keyboard works. probably not just xserver-xorg-input-libinput but also i2c_hid is affected. However w.r.t. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection and without being able to further diagnose the problem I filed this bug against xserver- xorg-input-libinput. I didn't have any snaps installed, so I continued with the distribution upgrade and everything worked OK. During the 18LTS to 20LTS (GUI) distribution upgrade I received and accepted the same warning. As before I had no snaps installed. However, I did have Chromium browser installed, and as part of the distribution upgrade this tries to switch from being installed from deb to being installed from snap. At this point the distribution upgrade came to a complete halt. Also the desktop GUI became unresponsive, but it was possible to switch to a TTY console with (say) CTRL-ALT-F4, login, and execute commands. The first time this happened I managed to recover the situation somehow, and proceeded to a working 20LTS installation (albeit with a few quirks). Fortunately the second time I had made a disk image of the 18LTS system, and was able to go back to that. I removed Chromium, and trying the distribution upgrade again I was not issued with the snap store warning, and the process completed uneventfully. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1948939] Re: chromium browser deb to snap switch kills dist-upgrade
> I am now testing this by dist-upgrading a 18.04 VM with > chromium-browser installed to 20.04. Well the dist upgrade went well. I didn't get any warnings about connecting to the snap store. I did get a debconf dialog to warn of the deb->snap transition as expected, and the one glitch I observed is that the dialog didn't go away after accepting, until installing the snap was complete. That's not great UX, but the upgrade process went fine nevertheless. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to chromium-browser in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1948939 Title: chromium browser deb to snap switch kills dist-upgrade Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: During the 16LTS to 18LTS (GUI) distribution upgrade I received a warning that the process couldn't connect to the snap store. E.g.: sudo snap install hello-world -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to chromium-browser in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1948939 Title: chromium browser deb to snap switch kills dist-upgrade Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: During the 16LTS to 18LTS (GUI) distribution upgrade I received a warning that the process couldn't connect to the snap store. The second time it happened I was not, and ended up with a mish-mash of 18LTS and 20LTS that wouldn't boot to the desktop. Fortunately the second time I had made a disk image of the 18LTS system, and was able to go back to that. I removed Chromium, and trying the distribution upgrade again I was not issued with the snap store warning, and the process completed uneventfully. BTW, I tried to report this problem using ubuntu-bug, but I hit this brick wall: https://bugs.launchpad.net/apport/+bug/1160316. Hence the manual report. This kind of makes sense since the file's content is not read until it is saved/sent, so its `contentType` will not yet be determined. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1945741 Title: [upstream] PDF attachment opens in Firefox instead of the built-in viewer when opened from the compose window Status in Mozilla Thunderbird: Confirmed Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: In Thunderbird 78, you could double click on an attachment you've just attached when composing an email. I'm changing the title to distinguish this from bug 1698140 (this is for PDF attachments that should be opened internally in Thunderbird, and the other bug is for PDF attachments being treated as a HTML when they are opened externally). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1948939] Re: chromium browser deb to snap switch kills dist-upgrade
The inability to access the snap store is a complete mystery to me. The message was displayed just /before/ gigabytes of distribution upgrade were downloaded and installed, and I was online the whole time. And this wasn't a once-off; I've seen it four times now. When the deb/snap swap stalled, I left it to sort itself for a long time before I decided it really had stalled. It's possible that had I waited half an hour it would have continued normally, but there was no indication anything was happening. Anyway I have to complain in not seeing Nvidia 340.108 driver for kernels 5.5 and 5.6 yet, leaving users stuck on kernel 5.4, because Nvidia 340.108 fails to install with kernels 5.5 and 5.6. Archlinux already has a driver for Kernel 5.6 via AUR (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/nvidia-340xx/) and Debian SID has one for kernel 5.5. So, the question is: when will we see a new version in repositories? Bye and have a nice day. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1948939] Re: chromium browser deb to snap switch kills dist-upgrade
Looking back at the upgrade logic, there is this: "Unable to contact the store, trying every minute for the next 30 minutes" (see https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~chromium-team/chromium-browser/focal- stable/view/head:/debian/chromium-browser.preinst) This might be acceptable in a normal update process, but maybe not in a dist upgrade? Out of curiosity, do you know why your machine being upgraded wouldn't be able to reach the snap store? Did you disconnect from the network after all packages were downloaded, or did something else to that effect? ** Changed in: chromium-browser (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to chromium-browser in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1948939 Title: chromium browser deb to snap switch kills dist-upgrade Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: During the 16LTS to 18LTS (GUI) distribution upgrade I received a warning that the process couldn't connect to the snap store. This was causing issues with compatibility with some applications that were not expecting any metadata (MIME type in this case) was glued to the text clipboard contents. Hence, it was reverted upstream [3]. * Fixing the root cause of this issue required changes to Nautilus [3], gnome-shell [4] and desktop-icons [5] [6]. Nautilus and gnome- shell parts are already implemented and present in Hirsute and Impish. [Test Plan] 1) Make sure desktop-icons extension is enabled. 2) Open nautilus window and copy any file from there by right-clicking and selecting "Copy" from the popup menu. 3) Right-click on desktop and select "Paste" from the context menu. Expected result: selected file is copied to the desktop. Actual result: "Paste" item is disabled in the menu. [Where problems could occur] * Mixing a version of nautilus without commit [3] and fixed version of desktop-icons may still lead to a scenario when copying will not work. * Any extension/application copying to desktop using the smuggled-in- text clipboard behavior should be expected to stop working. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1829746]
Dear Saren Tasciyan, To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year. There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present. If you have time, please do the following: Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/ If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. Please DO NOT Update the version field Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker) Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not appropriate in this case) If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so: 1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/ 2. Test your bug 3. Leave a comment with your results. 4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo'; 4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone! [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1949156] [NEW] firefox often slows to a crawl on page request
Public bug reported: When opening a URL in a new tab/window, firefox frequently slows to a crawl. This lasts for several seconds, then recovers. It does not seem to be related to time since launch. The behaviour is new. When this happens, other machine processes appear unaffected. I can continue working with other applications, just not firefox. Top (/usr/bin/top) shows that GeckoMain is using the majority of CPU at times like this (approx 20%-30% load on an 8 core system), but this is not the only time I see this. I've attached an image of the window title. There appears to be an animation that starts at the left and sweeps across the tab towards the right that also feezes / slows to a crawl at these times.
