In case it's related to https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-

works then the fix may be https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-

Title:
Should autodetect filename character encoding in zip files

Status in file-roller package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in xarchiver package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: file-roller

Many compressed file such as zip don't specify filename encoding. But
file-roller read every file as UTF-8, so it sometimes makes encoding
  problem.

I think may be, you could think that it's not a big problem or it's
not a bug or we don't need those feature. If you deal with only
English it's not a problem at all. But it's a big problem for East
Asian people such as Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Because zip file is
still popular. And many people compress zip file in Windows, and share
the zip files. Windows don't use UTF-8.

Many CJK people want to uncompress these zip files. There are some way
to solve this problem (by another software). But all are too complex
to Ubuntu newbies. I wish file-roller support encoding select
  function.

There does not appear to be any problem with your display driver. You
have an Intel GPU and the driver for that is built into the kernel

What is the real problem you are encountering?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1951683] Re: Xorg freeze

2021-11-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report.

If you have graphics problems then the most likely cause is the
'nouveau' driver you are using. Please open the 'Additional Drivers' app
and install the latest Nvidia driver. Then reboot.

If the problem continues after that then please run:

  lspci -kv > lspci.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

2021-11-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes the kernel driver appears to be loading successfully so it would
have been some other package. That said, the latest Nvidia driver has
been published since July so I don't know what changed to cause this.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1876716] Re: Error transferring track: "could not open resource for writing" when copying tracks to library

2021-11-21 Thread Noorez
This error also seems to occur when copying music from an iPod over to
the library stored on the local machine. If this is an issue with
duplicated file names, could perhaps file name be appended with a (1),
(2) ... ? I believe this is how Apple Music (iTunes) does it?

Title:
Error transferring track: "could not open resource for writing" when
  copying tracks to library

Status in rhythmbox package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I tried adding my old iTunes music folder into my (empty) Rhythmbox
library having the option 'Copy files that are outside the music
library' checked. After clicking 'Import 4974 listed tracks'.

  Expected behaviour:
all files should've been copied to my Rhythmbox media folder.

  What happened instead:
the copy process got interupted with the following error:

Error transferring track: "could not open resource for writing"
Only a few tracks where copied, I was able to press the button a few more
times to copy a few more tracks, but then Rhythmbox crashed/closed and I had to
restart it.

I also tried it with just a few tracks. That worked, but the same error
message came up when trying to copy tracks that were added to the library
before.

@brian-murray,

Thanks a lot. And checked the patch in hirsute, it's just a few offset.
It should be ok.

Applying patch patches/check-fileitem.patch
patching file desktopManager.js

  [Impact]

   * When user edit and save a file in Desktop, the file icon will disappear,
and the file is still there, it's bad experience for user.
   * Sometimes, some icons in my Desktop folder just don't appear on the
desktop. The missing icons aren't invisible, it's like they're not in the
folder. Clicking on the empty space where they should be does nothing. Mousing
over the empty space does nothing. See attached screenshot. As you can see,
there are many missing.

  Not consistently reproducible, but frequent.

  [Test Plan]

   * Edit and save a file in Desktop.
 $ echo "abc" > ~/a.log
 $ gedit ~/a.log

  [Where problems could occur]

   * It is low risk, cause I just check the fileItem in source code
before call it, or else it prompt 'fileItem is undefined'.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1950925] Re: alt-tab doesnt work anymore after upgrade to 21.10

2021-11-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Unfortunately that doesn't completely prove the extension was to blame.

Strictly speaking, the GNOME developers would prefer everyone avoided
extensions. But it would create more complaints to disallow extensions
so they are allowed, and they might break your system.

Title:
App window jumps between monitors when not even being used

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Status in mutter package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
When using the Wayland session, the screen will sometimes randomly
flash (usually after opening an application). After the screen
flashes, the open windows will often end up in different positions or
in different monitors. Video of the issue is attached.

Expected Behavior: For the LibreOffice window to stay on the right
monitor and to not change size or position.

Actual Behavior: The LibreOffice window opens to the right after I
  open Lollypop.

This issue doesn't exclusively happen while LibreOffice or when
opening Lollypop, however, opening Lollypop is one of the most
predictable ways to trigger the bug. The majority of the time, the bug
occurs in the middle of regular use without me triggering anything.

  I'm using a dual monitor set-up, with a 2560X1080 monitor at 1x scaling
hooked up to a 4K Hi-DPI laptop screen at 2x scaling.

So a lot of packages in the Universe repository are not compiled with
Wayland support which is really bad and would lead to bad performance

Here are the following packages that I detected with wrong
  compilation:

telegram-desktop (Wayland support work with snap version)
  kiwix
firefox (everything works fine with this env variable
set:"MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1")

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1932328]

2021-11-21 Thread Tristan
Hi guys, added the Mozilla PPA and (seamlessly) upgraded from
78->91.3.2. This bug still exists, I guess the next test will be in a
few weeks when Pop_OS moves to gnome 40 in their 21.10 release.

  Same problem in safe mode.
  Description:
By default in this context, TB is a Wayland task.
When opening a compose windows (or reply or transfer), sending mail
apparently close the windows, but gnome shell continue to show multiple
"points", as if multiple windows are still active.
And after closing TB, it seems maintained in the same state, so it becomes
impossible to relaunch it from the desk. But task manager of "looking glass"
does not show it and it is possible to launch from terminal.
  Provisional solution:
Modify .desktop file to launch with --display=:0 option, that force to use
XWayland interface, as shown by xlsclients (for example).
But it is actually a bug under Wayland context, that also badly interfer with
many add-ons or extensions.

Status in OEM Priority Project:

Status in nvidia-prime package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in nvidia-prime source package in Focal:
  Incomplete
Status in nvidia-prime source package in Hirsute:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  [Steps to reproduce]
  1. Install 20.04.3 with "Third-party packages" on a system which containing a
RTD3 supported nvidia card.
  2. After the installation, press enter to reboot system
  3. prime-select query

  [Expected result]
  on-demand

  [Actual result]
  performance

  ---

  It's because ubiquity launches `ubuntu-drivers install --packages-list
...` in live system but install each package to target storage.

When installing nvidia-prime, the preinst set "on" to "/etc/prime-
discrete" which will be referred by gpu-manager. The gpu-manager will
  set to performance mode.

After confirming with Alberto on Mattermost, since we don't have a
nvidia driver which lower than 450 version since focal.

I think we are ok to switch to on-demand mode.

  ---

  [Impact]

   * Ubuntu will set GPU mode to performance as default which may use more power
   * User can't use GPU for other purpose (eg: deep-learning) if RTD3 is not
supported
   * According to Nvidia README, the RTD3 doesn't support on non-laptop machine

  [Test Plan]

   * Install Ubuntu, and then execute 'ubuntu-drivers install' to install GPU
driver. After the installation, reboot the system. Execute "prime-select query"
should get "on-demand"
   * On non-laptop machine. Can set GPU mode to on-demand
   * On laptop with GPU in runtime PM support list. Set GPU mode to on-demand
and Nvidia driver is loaded with "NVreg_DynamicPowerManagement=0x02"

  [Where problems could occur]

   * on-demand mode supported after nvidia driver 450. And focal does not have
nvidia driver lower than 450.
   * With GPU supported RTD3 not able enable runtime PM on non-laptop. But
based on the Nvidia README, this case shall not happened.

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Hello,

As part of a rebuild against OpenSSL3, this package failed to build on one or
several architectures. You can find the details of the rebuild at

  https://people.canonical.com/~schopin/rebuilds/openssl-3.0.0-impish.html

or for the amd64 failed build, directly at

https://launchpad.net/~schopin/+archive/ubuntu/openssl-3.0.0/+build/22098525/+files/buildlog_ubuntu-impish-amd64.firefox_92.0+build3-0ubuntu2.0~ssl3ppa1.1_BUILDING.txt.gz

We're planning to transition to OpenSSL 3.0 for the 22.04 release, and
consider
this issue as blocking for this transition.

You can find general migration informations at
  https://www.openssl.org/docs/manmaster/man7/migration_guide.html
For your tests, you can build against libssl-dev as found in the PPA
  schopin/openssl-3.0.0

Looking at the build failure, the problem lies in the openssl-sys crate.
It seems the version 0.9.64 of this crate should fix the failure:

https://github.com/sfackler/rust-openssl/blob/master/openssl-sys/CHANGELOG.md#v0964---2021-06-18

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1950467] Re: [BPO] libreoffice 7.1.7 for focal

2021-11-21 Thread Rico Tzschichholz
Hello,

Thank you for your review.

I have updated the patch and minimized the usage of internal libraries as far
as possible.
See the packaging git branch [1] for more details.

We provide libreoffice_*.orig-tarballs.tar.xz to fallback on library
versions used upstream if the system environment is not sufficient.

The new requirement to include a "~bpo" string seems a bit unfortunate
given the established versioning of the package [2] [3]. Could you make
a recommendation here while this is not a plain rebuild of the hirsute
package?

Title:
  [BPO] libreoffice 7.1.7 for focal

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in libreoffice source package in Focal:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 7.1.7 is in its seventh (and last) bugfix release of the 7.1
line:
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.1#7.1.7_release

   * This source packages matches the proposed SRU for hirsute handled at
   https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1948933
and its backport is currently provided by the LibreOffice Still PPA at

https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/libreoffice-still/+packages

   * LibreOffice 6.4.7 (EOL since November 30, 2020) is currently
  released in focal.

   * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU
a minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

  [Scope]

   * Backport of
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/1:7.1.7-0ubuntu0.21.04.1

   * Backport target is Focal/20.04 LTS only to provide an official
build of a more recent upstream version of LibreOffice

  [Testing]

   * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
(both in an automated manner and manually).

   * A minor release with a total of 27 bug fixes always carries the
potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bugfix-only

   * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as
described above should provide reasonable confidence that no
  regressions sneaked in.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1951738] [NEW] [SRU] libreoffice 7.2.3 for impish

2021-11-21 Thread Rico Tzschichholz
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * LibreOffice 7.2.3 is in its third bugfix release of the 7.2 line:
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.2#7.2.3_release

 * Version 7.2.2 is currently released in impish. For a list of fixed bugs
compared to 7.2.2 see the list of bugs fixed in the release candidates of 7.2.3
(that's a total of ?? bugs):
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.2.3/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.2.3/RC2#List_of_fixed_bugs

 * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU a
minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

[Testing]

 * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
(both in an automated manner and manually).

  * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1947571] Re: UI freeze when right clicking on Trash icon of the Dock

2021-11-21 Thread dev
wohoo. Sounds like a genuine bug.
I think both https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1936644
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1949572 is due to same underlaying cause, I
think https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1949572 is more related to this bug.

Moreover I'm pretty sure when both these bug are fixed it will
automatically fix this bug also.
