[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1992187] [NEW] hplib not working after install, python error

2022-10-07 Thread Peter Glässel
Public bug reported:

after upgrade from 20.04 to 22.04.1 (not a new installation): new installation
of hplip
>sudo apt install hplip hplip-gui

Install completes without error.

Using hplip, e.g.

manual detection of wireless printer using IP works, printer is listed,
but on 'next' -> process hangs (wait/termination suggested, wait does
not help)

alternative: (hplip installs a suite of programs)

I tried alternate ways to install hplip:
hplip-3.22.6.run downloaded from hp

this fails with an unmet dependency 'libcups2', but sudo apt install libcups2
tells me it is
installed (-dev version, too)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1969901] Re: network-manager fails to renew ipv6 address

2022-10-07 Thread Håkan Kvist
Updated patch also including d017022dfc7e531c23caddeac7b3a8b03b1aa5d0

we will test this further.

** Patch added: "updated patch including

Title:
network-manager fails to renew ipv6 address

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in network-manager source package in Bionic:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * This affects Ubuntu 18.04 where Network Manager version 1.10.6 is
  used.

   * Network manager might kill dhclient(6) and fail to start it again
causing the IPv6 address to be lost on a network that uses mixed
     IPv4/IPV6.
The network status will still be seen as online in gnome since ipv4
     is still active.
The user then have to manually remove the dhcpv6 lease files and
restart ipv6 connection/restart network manager to regain IPv6
     connectivity.

   * This is a cherry-pick from Network manager 1.10.8 (Ubuntu's version
     is based on 1.10.6):

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/-/commit/7fbbe7ebee99785e38d39c37e515a64a28edef0f

   * Upstream bug:
     https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=783391

  [Test Plan]

  The test requires three computers
  * one computer runing isc dhcpd server (with network configured static)
  * one computer running patched network manager
  * one computer running vanilla ubuntu

The idea is to execute on an isolated network and trigger the error by
changing
ip range handed out by the dhcp-server to force a nack response back to the
  clients.

  Expected result
  * patched network keeps dhclient6 alive
  * vanilla network manager will fail to keep dhclient6 alive
in network manager logs dhcp6 will expire and not be restarted

  ON THE SERVER
  # Disable app-armor, as it has rules restricting dhcpd
  aa-teardown

  # install isc dhcpserver
  isc-dhcp-server

  # configure network static
sudo nmcli connection modify "${CONNECTION_NAME}" \
   ipv4.method "manual" \
   ipv4.addresses "192.168.1.1/24" \
   ipv4.gateway "192.168.1.254" \
   ipv4.dns "192.168.1.1" \
   ipv6.method "manual" \
   ipv6.addresses "2001:db8:0:1::1/64" \
   ipv6.gateway "2001:db8:0:1::ffbb" \
   ipv6.dns "2001:db8:0:1::1/64"

  mkdir -p tmp
  touch tmp/dhcpd4_a.leases
  touch tmp/dhcpd4_b.leases
  touch tmp/dhcpd6_a.leases
  touch tmp/dhcpd6_b.leases

Then it is time to execute dhcpd
  -f - run in foreground
-d - print errors to stderr instead of syslog

  # Start in separate terminals
  dhcpd -f -d -4 -cf dhcp_v4_a.conf -lf tmp/dhcpd4_a.leases enp0s31f6
  dhcpd -f -d -6 -cf dhcp_v6_a.conf -lf tmp/dhcpd6_a.leases enp0s31f6

Press ctrl-C to kill servers, then restart with the b configurations

  dhcpd -f -d -4 -cf dhcp_v4_b.conf -lf tmp/dhcpd4_b.leases enp0s31f6
  dhcpd -f -d -6 -cf dhcp_v6_b.conf -lf tmp/dhcpd6_b.leases enp0s31f6

Then leases to expire (check for clients that kills dhclient)
Press ctrl-C to kill servers, then restart with the a configurations

  ON THE CLIENTS
  Setup:
Configure ipv6 network in settings to use dhcp (using the gui)

  Test:
check that dhcp clients are still running:
  ps aux|grep dhclient

  Expected in output
  one client for dhcpv4
  one client for dhcpv6

Also check network manager status :
  journalctl -u NetworkManager.service
  journalctl -u NetworkManager.service|grep dhcp6 # to only view dhclient6
  journalctl -u NetworkManager.service|grep dhcp4 # to only view dhclient4

  if dhclient is not running:
  stop network in gui
remove lease files (/var/lib/NetworkManager/dhclient*.lease). Only remove the
lease for the client not running.
  start network in gui

  if dhclients are running:
wait additional ten minutes, repeat from beginning of test

  [Where problems could occur]

   * The change is in the dchp lease expiration handling so verify that
there is no regression in dhcp renewals on different type of
  configuration include IPv6

  [Other Info]
   * We have tested this patch on a couple of clients where we have seen this
this problem. If this patch is feasible to include in Ubuntu 18.04 we
could request more users to test.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1989508] Re: hp-plugin unable to load plugin.conf

2022-10-07 Thread Brian J. Murrell
I finally did discover the workaround, after a while of (wasted time)
searching.

But how many other people are going to continue to have to waste time
researching how to "work-around" this issue when the solution is a
simple matter of just putting the missing file back on the web-server?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1988796] Re: Incorrect rendering triggered by cairo CAIRO_OPERATOR_SATURATE with subpixel positioning

2022-10-07 Thread Athos Ribeiro
Hi Benjamin,

Thanks for taking the time to provide this fix!

Would you be willing to file the SRU template [1] for this bug so we can
proceed here?

It would also be nice to add dep3 headers [2] to that patch.

Title:
Incorrect rendering triggered by cairo CAIRO_OPERATOR_SATURATE with
  subpixel positioning

Status in pixman package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
pixman 0.38.4-0ubuntu1 in focal (and actually pixman 0.38.x generally)
has a regression that causes incorrect rendering in some
circumstances. This can be triggered by the use of cairo with
CAIRO_OPERATOR_SATURATE and subpixel positioning, and causes OpenSlide
   to produce incorrect output.

The attached test program will print "Failed" if the bug exists, or
  "OK" if it doesn't.

  This is fixed upstream in
  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pixman/pixman/-/commit/8256c235, which
  is in pixman 0.40.0.

  See https://github.com/openslide/openslide/issues/278 for more
  context.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1969901] Re: network-manager fails to renew ipv6 address

2022-10-07 Thread Håkan Kvist
Agreed, commit d017022 seems to be missing.
I will cherry-pick it locally and retest.

I did some more comparing of the file nm-device.c where the changes was
made.

I think d017022 is the only relevant follow up change.

I compared the commit with the original fix with on the 1.10 track with
latest commit on the 1.10 track by doing:

git blame 7fbbe7ebee99785e38d39c37e515a64a28edef0f -- src/devices/nm-device.c >
commit_7fbbe7ebee99785e38d39c37e515a64a28edef0f.txt
git blame remotes/origin/nm-1-10 -- src/devices/nm-device.c > commit_1_10.txt
 commit_7fbbe7ebee99785e38d39c37e515a64a28edef0f.txt
commit_1_10.txt

I could not find any other connected changes on rows (or close to rows)
modified by 7fbbe7ebee99785e38d39c37e515a64a28edef0f except for the
changes by d017022.

The commit d7ebbd69a05c8bee636c5eeba2206176ba29bdc3 (core: implement
setting MDNS setting for systemd) was changing into the same methods,
but it added completely new functionality so not related.

Title:
network-manager fails to renew ipv6 address

   * This is a cherry-pick from Network manager 1.10.8 (Ubuntu's version
     is based on 1.10.6):

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/-/commit/7fbbe7ebee99785e38d39c37e515a64a28edef0f

   * Upstream bug:
     https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=783391

  [Test Plan]

  The test requires three computers
  * one computer runing isc dhcpd server (with network configured static)
  * one computer running patched network manager
  * one computer running vanilla ubuntu

The idea is to execute on an isolated network and trigger the error by
changing
ip range handed out by the dhcp-server to force a nack response back to the
  clients.

  Expected result
  * patched network keeps dhclient6 alive
  * vanilla network manager will fail to keep dhclient6 alive
in network manager logs dhcp6 will expire and not be restarted

  ON THE SERVER
  # Disable app-armor, as it has rules restricting dhcpd
  aa-teardown

  # install isc dhcpserver
  isc-dhcp-server

  # configure network static
sudo nmcli connection modify "${CONNECTION_NAME}" \
   ipv4.method "manual" \
   ipv4.addresses "192.168.1.1/24" \
   ipv4.gateway "192.168.1.254" \
   ipv4.dns "192.168.1.1" \
   ipv6.method "manual" \
   ipv6.addresses "2001:db8:0:1::1/64" \
   ipv6.gateway "2001:db8:0:1::ffbb" \
   ipv6.dns "2001:db8:0:1::1/64"

  mkdir -p tmp
  touch tmp/dhcpd4_a.leases
  touch tmp/dhcpd4_b.leases
  touch tmp/dhcpd6_a.leases
  touch tmp/dhcpd6_b.leases

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1992155] [NEW] XWayland freezes frequently

2022-10-07 Thread Koopee
Public bug reported:

About once every day, I have firefox pop-up, that states that something
went wrong and firefox needs to shut down. After a while or after I
click the prompt the mouse stops working and screen freezes and keyboard
seems not working. ctrl-alt-del for example does not work.

Last time I noticed that I could move mouse to the left panel and select
windows for a moment, but when I move mouse out of the side panel, the
cursor vanishes.

Kernel works, since I'm able to do a remote login via ssh and do a
command line reboot.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1981349] Re: wslu prevents from opening files and folders on some situations

2022-10-07 Thread José Marinho
The fact is I think that this package is not intended to be installed on a
desktop system. But I don't know how this package ended up installed on my pc's
because it wasn't my intention to have it installed.
I remember that, when I uninstalled from it my laptop it uninstalled gimp-help
package too. I don't remember if it was the english or the spanish one but now,
if I try to install or uninstall the gimp-help package or wslu, the
dependencies between them seems not to be in place.
With that I try to say that perhaps, the best way to solve this problem is to
prevent that wslu ended up installed on Ubuntu Desktop, because if I'm not
wrong this software, according to its name, seems to be for using on Windows
systems with WSL installed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1992150] [NEW] black screen with "_" with enabled Wayland

2022-10-07 Thread Mateusz Łącki
Public bug reported:

After installing 22.10 beta, the gdm3 does not start properly. This
happens only if in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf :

[daemon]
# Uncomment the line below to force the login screen to use Xorg
WaylandEnable=false
(...)

The line with WaylandEnable is commented out or set explicitly to
WaylandEnable=true.
Then the system boots into the state when the screen is black, there is
underscore "_" present in top left corner, one can ssh into the system, but
keyboard input is ignored. With WaylandEnable=false the system is fully
functional. Before the update, with WaylandEnable=true the have been no such
problems.

I will attach any logs upon request. Below those that I thought of on
myself:

Description:Ubuntu Kinetic Kudu (development branch)
Release:22.10

gdm3:
  Installed: 42.0-1ubuntu7
  Candidate: 42.0-1ubuntu7
  Version table:
 *** 42.0-1ubuntu7 500
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu kinetic/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Note that the system logs have been created as follows:
1) I booted the machine with WaylandEnable=true,
2) I sshd into the machine, changed WaylandEnable to false, and restart gdm3
so the last few entries will likely describe the proper "x11" launch of the
gdm3.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1990886] Re: Security updates missing after 91.11.0

2022-10-07 Thread John Pye
Thank you very much! I just noticed it on my 20.04 system now. However I can no
longer access my calendar! This is rather serious! But hopefully it will
inspire the add-on developers to catch up...

Title:
  Security updates missing after 91.11.0

Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Upstream released Thunderbird 91.11.0 on June 28, 2022.
It's now at 91.13.1 from September 19, 2022. The release notes say:
"By popular demand, Thunderbird 91.13.1 contains important security updates
that shipped in Thunderbird 102.2.1. Users are encouraged to update as soon as
possible."
  Source: https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/91.13.1/releasenotes/

Ubuntu 22.04 Jammy (but also the other supported LTS) still has Thunderbird
91.11.0 (1:91.11.0+build2-0ubuntu0.22.04.1) without the security fixes after
91.11.0.
The package should be updated to 91.13.1.

Given that it has been three months without security updates, there
seems to be some general friction with following upstream.

2022-10-07 Thread Thibaut Vandervelden
I am also seeing the same behaviour. Previously I just disabled the
WebRender as well (since that made the difference in being not laggy),
just to make Thunderbird useable. Here is my profile when moving the
mouse over the messages: https://share.firefox.dev/3CCIknA

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1992101] Re: No sound devices listed in Settings

2022-10-07 Thread Dylan Aïssi
RTKit error messages is a known bug [1], pipewire services are started before
rtkit service thus pipewire fails to received the requested priority for
realtime stuff. I confirm this is not related
to the "no device shown" symptom.

This "no device shown" symptom is due to a race condition between
pipewire-pulse and wireplumber services [2]. The pipewire-pulse service
is ready before wireplumber, thus wireplumber doesn't report any
available device to pipewire-pulse.

I proposed a debdiff in [3] to avoid this issue. I attach the debdiff
here again.
