[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1933186] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in meta_window_place() from place_window_if_needed() from meta_window_constrain() from meta_window_move_resize_internal() from met

2023-02-04 Thread Alexandre Letourneau
In relation with bug 2004111 that I submitted which was flagged as a
duplicate of this one, it just happenned again and I think I noticed
that it only happens when I have applications open, if no applications
are running it seems that my session doesn't close. I thought I'd share
in case it can help to fix the bug.

Here's the link for my latest occurence that just happened:

https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/cbed6a7a-a4b4-11ed-abd1-fa163e55efd0
https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/c99be648-a4b4-11ed-b7d7-fa163ef35206

Also sorry for not being as well versed in Ubuntu bug fix process, but from
what I understand when the status will be 'Fix Released' for my version of
Ubuntu then I can just apt update && apt upgrade to get the fix?

Thanks

2023-02-04 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Upstream enabled 10-sub-pixel-rgb.conf by default.

It should be mentioned that the change resulted in a discussion, and
there is a later upstream commit which makes a choice of 10-sub-
pixel-*.conf configurable instead. But assuming that we want to keep
"rgb" as the default in standard Ubuntu, I won't change fontconfig for
now.

Instead I have uploaded a change to kubuntu-desktop which stops
installing /etc/fonts/conf.d/10-sub-pixel-rgb.conf.

Btw, Debian's fix of the similar linked fontconfig bug does not apply to
us, since we don't provide debconf prompts.

Update: I was able to launch Chromium using a temporary profile.
Naturally it didn't save it. I uninstalled and reinstalled it. No
extensions. So far it's up and running.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1961508] Re: Dock displaying over window after resuming from blank screen

2023-02-04 Thread rrwood
I have the same bug with Ubuntu 22.10 running on a Dell 3500 laptop with
an external HDMI monitor as primary monitor. Like the others above,
the problem is semi-random, so likely related to some race condition.
The external monitor is very slow to wake after sleep, compared to the
laptop monitor.

I have Blank Screen set to happen after 2 minutes of inactivity.

When resuming from a Blank Screen (by moving the mouse or touching the

To get it back to normal I need to click "Restore Down" on the current
programs window and then "Maximize" so that the Dock no longer
  overlaps it.

(Note: I have Auto-hide dock turned off.)

This only happens sometimes. I can't reproduce the bug it every time.

  1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->
About Ubuntu
  - Ubuntu 21.10

  2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname'
or by checking in Software Center
  - Not sure (I guess the Dock is part of the Gnome interface?)

  3) What you expected to happen
  - Dock should not overlap the current program on resume from screen blank.

  4) What happened instead
  - The Dock overlaps the current program on resume from screen blank.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1336068] Re: Provide Option for Ensuring Scale Mode by Default

Title:
Provide Option for Ensuring Scale Mode by Default

Status in remmina package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
As a frequent Remmina user, I desperately want an option to be added
so that I can ensure that all new connections are scaled by default.

Every time I open a new connection, the first thing I do is hit the
scale button. Therefore, if there were an option to set all new
connections to scale upon opening, it would save me this step numerous
  times per day.

  Here's how I use Remmina:

  1) I almost always open connections at the client's resolution.

  2) I always use tabs instead of full screen, so that I can tab between
sessions like you'd tab between web pages in a modern browser.

  3) I always scale the sessions so that they take up the full space of
each tab's display area. I appreciate the magnification this provides
  in most cases.

Since I do item 3 every time, it would very be nice if I had a user
preference for setting it as default for me. Furthermore I will also
suggest setting this as default generally, because I can't image
anyone preferring scrolling over scaling in situations where the
client's resolution is larger than the tab's available area.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2005135] [NEW] The incorrect calling to zenity via /etc/gdm3/config_error_dialog.patch which should use the --no-markup option for cases when the error messages contain <.

2023-02-04 Thread Hongyi Zhao
Public bug reported:

The Ubuntu-specific patch to gdm that ends up calling [zenity
--warning](https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/tree/debian/patches/ubuntu/config_error_dialog.patch),
has the following problem:

The patch is probably trying to set the text to something that contains
< which means the following text will be considered pango markup. It
most likely is not pango markup though. So it need to use --no-markup
when calling zenity to avoid the text being considered invalid markup.

See [here](https://discourse.gnome.org/t/are-you-sure-you-want-to-

Title:
Add a direct link to the irc support channel list

Status in yelp package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 22.04.1 @ 6/9/2022

  [Current Case]

When launching the gnome Yelp icon under category 'Get more
  help'/community support

the user is forwarded to https://ubuntu.com/support/community-support

and needs to click 4 times to actualy get to the irc channel list to
  get support

  [Wislist]

Please add a more direct link towards the Ubuntu irc support channels

from inside Yelp/get more help so the user can get a better support
  experience.

The Yelp icon is on the Ubuntu-desktops dock by default, so this could
benefit to a quick irc help

  ProblemType: Bug
  DistroRelease: Ubuntu 22.04
  Package: yelp 42.1-1
  Uname: Linux 5.17.7-051707-generic x86_64

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1988847] Re: Add a direct link to the irc support channel list

2023-02-04 Thread lotuspsychje
By communicating with Aaron prisk and Philipp Kewisch in #ubuntu-
community-team on irc

the community support page https://ubuntu.com/support/community-support

has been edited by the team to simplify the click & link forwarding

to give users a smoother irc & community support experience

thank you very much for this great edit!
