[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2039374] Re: xbrlapi causes long delay in GUI login
Note that if the network is not connected during the login process, then there is no delay, perhaps because xbrlapi fails immediately in that scenario? But if I am connected to a network before login, the issue of the delay due to xbrlapi occurs. This is specifically with X and not Wayland. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to brltty in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2039374 Title: xbrlapi causes long delay in GUI login Status in brltty package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS xbrlapi 6.4-4ubuntu3 After logging in to the GUI, there is a delay of over 2 minutes before the desktop environment loads (screen will be black with a mouse cursor) This is caused by /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90xbrlapi The script runs xbrlapi, which hangs for 2 minutes or so, presumably because it is trying to connect to a BrlAPI server that doesn't exist on my machine. Thunderbird version: 78.11.0 with "gnome-support" package. Same problem in safe mode. Description: By default in this context, TB is a Wayland task. When opening a compose windows (or reply or transfer), sending mail apparently close the windows, but gnome shell continue to show multiple "points", as if multiple windows are still active. And after closing TB, it seems maintained in the same state, so it becomes impossible to relaunch it from the desk. But task manager of "looking glass" does not show it and it is possible to launch from terminal. Provisional solution: Modify .desktop file to launch with --display=:0 option, that force to use XWayland interface, as shown by xlsclients (for example). But it is actually a bug under Wayland context, that also badly interfer with many add-ons or extensions. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2039367] [NEW] Incorrect alignment of text on file deletion popups in Nautilus
Public bug reported: In Nautilus, the alignment of the text in the file deletion popups (when clearing Trash and permanently deleting an item) is wrong. As shown in the screen-capture, the title and subtitle text is wrongly aligned left instead of centered, causing the padding between the subtitle and title to be wrong, as the text in both cases inadvertently takes up two lines. On versions of Nautilus prior to Mantic (23.10), this bug was not present and the text appearance was correct. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2039218] Re: NetworkManager doesn't connect to Wi-Fi after suspend
This bug can be closed. I know, what caused the problem. It is system76-driver package from System76 PPA, or its dependencies. When I uninstalled it, autoremoved dependencies and installed power-profiles- daemon, Wi-Fi wakes up after suspend. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2039218 Title: NetworkManager doesn't connect to Wi-Fi after suspend Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: After upgrading to Mantic Minotaur, when I suspend and resume the system, NetworkManager doesn't see any Wi-Fi networks and i can't connect to Wi-Fi, unless I log out and log in. I don't know exactly in which package there is a problem, I can only guess, that it is network-manager or plasma-nm. My Wi-Fi adapter is Intel AX201 (Wi-Fi 6), operating under iwlwifi driver. Plasma Network Manager applet doesn't see any connections, unless I log out and log in. Or I can modprobe -r iwlwifi, modprobe iwlwifi. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2039365] [NEW] should not declare a directory that contains only hidden files "empty"
Public bug reported: Nautilus displays a big directory symbol alongside the message "directory is empty" [or something to that effect] for empty directories. However, it does not differentiate at all between directories that are truly empty, and directories that contain only hidden files and directories (i.e. their names start with a dot). I've lost data that way. By removing seemingly "empty" directories, I mean. More than once. (The fact that the recycle bin is broken on btrfs [see Debian bug #698640) does not help. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2039352] Re: Unigine Superposition 1.1 doesn't run and fills dmesg with: *ERROR* Not enough memory for command submission!
I reproduce the same issue if I just do: ``` DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo -B name of display: :1 ``` Which means the fault happens when using the AMD FirePro S7150, NOT the AMD Radeon PRO W7600. Maybe for some reasons Unigine Superposition tries to use all GPUs available? So, the bug is now easier to reproduce, it is affecting the AMD FirePro S7150, and a glxinfo is enough. ** Summary changed: - Unigine Superposition 1.1 doesn't run and fills dmesg with: *ERROR* Not enough memory for command submission! + OpenGL applications don't run on AMD FirePro S7150 and fills dmesg with: *ERROR* Not enough memory for command submission! ** Description changed: + I first thought the Radeon PRO W7600 was affected, in fact the affected + GPU is the AMD FirePro S7150. + + See comment 3 and below: + https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/2039352/comments/3 + + __ + When I run Unigine Superposition 1.1, it doesn't open any window and dmesg is filled with: ``` [36881.961064] [drm:amdgpu_cs_ioctl [amdgpu]] *ERROR* Not enough memory for command submission! [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2039357] [NEW] Bluetooth headphones not detected properly
Public bug reported: On a fresh system boot, stereo Bluetooth headphones with a microphone that identify as WH-CH710N connect but provide no sound until Settings is used to pick the only microphone option, the headphones, whereupon sound immediately works. Thereafter, doing a sound Test reveals the headphones are considered mono, not stereo. Sound works, but periodically the Bluetooth connection halts the browser that's playing the sound and in about 10 seconds, Bluetooth disconnects then reconnects a short time later but with the original sound problem. The issue is with the Bluetooth detection. The symptom is no sound. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2034986] Re: some text became unreadable during a distribution upgrade
Since I propose yet another SRU, I created bug #2039356. This bug report is quite noisy already... My examination of the flavors with respect to this issue focused on two questions: 1. Does the u-r-u model effectively prevent 'the unreadable text issue' when the desktop font in use — whether default or set by the user — has changed during the cycle? After the changes proposed via bug #2039356 I would say "yes" for: Ubuntu Desktop Ubunu Budgie Ubuntu Cinnamon Ubuntu Kylin Ubuntu MATE Ubuntu Unity while the model (i.e. temporarily changing a dconf value which represents the desktop font) is not effective for: Kubuntu Lubuntu Xubuntu In case of Kubuntu and Lubuntu the Qt way of dealing with fonts seems to require something else, and the Xfce way applied in Xubuntu means similar difficulties. Fortunately all those flavors use a desktop font by default (Noto Sans) which was not changed during the cycle, so this does not need to be addressed for mantic. But if you like, you can trigger the 23.04 -> 23.10 upgrade issue in for instance Xubuntu: Go to Settings -> Appearance -> Fonts and change the "Default Font" from Noto Sans to Ubuntu. Doing so will be reflected both in the ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xsettings.xml file and in dconf (gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface font-name), but changing the font-name dconf value only to something else during upgrade (as we do) won't change the effective desktop font in Xubuntu, which results in 'the unreadable text issue'. 2. Is the temporary desktop font dconf value properly reset at next login after reboot? Yes it is, after the changes proposed via bug #2039356. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to ubuntu-meta in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2034986 Title: some text became unreadable during a distribution upgrade Status in Cinnamon: New Status in Ubuntu MATE: New Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in ubuntu-release-upgrader package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Status in ubuntu-release-upgrader source package in Jammy: Fix Committed Status in ubuntu-release-upgrader source package in Lunar: Fix Committed Status in ubuntu-meta source package in Mantic: Fix Released Status in ubuntu-release-upgrader source package in Mantic: Fix Committed Bug description: [ Impact ] * On Ubuntu Mate with the Lunar series, when running ubuntu-release-upgrader, the displayed font of running applications (including the upgrader) becomes very corrupted. * This is not just a display problem, it is also a functional one. The release upgrader will have text corrupted to the point where a dialog asks a decision, and displays two buttons, but the text is unreadable and one has to guess which button is the one that carries out their desired action. * In the early parts of the upgrader tool, users are told in bold: "To prevent data loss close all open applications and documents." This is just before the "Start Upgrade" button is available. But they may not do so. Many applications may have a corrupted font. * To address this, an additional environment variable is being passed along to pkexec, XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP, as this is the critical criteria for making the Mate version of the fix work. * Also in the change are * an update to tests * from pre-build.sh * an update of the mirrors.cfg, adding and removing several mirrors * a refresh of the po files [ Test Plan ] * acquire an Ubuntu Mate environment running Ubuntu Lunar on amd64 * as user, run "update-manager -d" * monitor the "Distribution Upgrade" screen. During the "Installing the upgrades" step (and mind that this step will be long), observe the text of the "Distribution Upgrade" screen and verify that the font does not corrupt. * Repeat the above for Ubuntu Desktop [ Where problems could occur ] * We are changing, at release time, ubuntu-release upgrader. If we are careless, we could regress upgrades for a wider group of users than just Ubuntu Mate. That said, it is believed that passing the additional XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP variable is relatively low risk. [ Other Info ] * TBD --- Original description: I was upgrading from Lunar to Mantic the other day and left a couple of applications open during the upgrade process. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2039352] Re: Unigine Superposition 1.1 doesn't run and fill dmesg with: *ERROR* Not enough memory for command submission!
In the log file you may see notice of some amdgpu-pro OpenCL components like ROCm ROCr OpenCL or Legacy Orca OpenCL, there is no amdgpu-pro OpenGL or dkms module installed though. Removing entirely the amdgpu-pro OpenCL packages produce the same bug anyway. The contrary would have been surprising since I assume Superposition to be an OpenGL benchmark and to not make use of OpenCL, but to be 100% sure I removed all those amdgpu-pro packages and I get the same bug with stock Ubuntu anyway. ** Summary changed: - Unigine Superposition 1.1 doesn't run and fill dmesg with: *ERROR* Not enough memory for command submission! + Unigine Superposition 1.1 doesn't run and fills dmesg with: *ERROR* Not enough memory for command submission! ** Description changed: When I run Unigine Superposition 1.1, it doesn't open any window and dmesg is filled with: ``` [36881.961064] [drm:amdgpu_cs_ioctl [amdgpu]] *ERROR* Not enough memory for command submission! [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2031232] Re: Thunderbird 115 Snap Version in Ubuntu 22.04 - does not send email nor saves drafts
Hi, I don't have records, but I can say I don't have any non conventional encryption method. When I tried to install under SNAP, I noticed the data folder had been moved to the Snap area. I tried to make the import with the Thunderbird tool and it was ultimately successful. But then I discovered the issue of not sending emails. Therefore I tried to move the personal folder out of the Snap area and load it editing the ini file hoping it was an issue with the snap folders rights. That did not work as well with the same symptoms of not being able to write. For time reasons I had to give up. Now fortunately Thunderbird has updated via repository and I'm able to use everything. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2031232 Title: Thunderbird 115 Snap Version in Ubuntu 22.04 - does not send email nor saves drafts Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I've tried to install via Snap Store in Ubuntu 22.04 the new released Thunderbird 115. I've successfully imported my old profile from Thunderbird 102 (switching it to the new location in Snap path). Email download works flawlessly and the system looks good. However, with whatever account I try to send emails I get "Impossible to send message". Moreover it also does not save into the draft folder with a similar message. I made all the standard checks refreshing passwords of SMTP. Nothing was successful. I tried to link to my account on a fresh install, but still not possible to send messages. I'm inclined to think there is an issue with Snap space. But I can't troubleshoot on it because I am not expert enough. Any hint?
