[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2060080] Re: 23.13.9-2ubuntu5 is FTBFS on armhf

2024-04-02 Thread Chris Peterson
So something changed to add -Werror=implicit-function-declaration at
build time (gcc didn't change so maybe dpkg?), which should have caused
the other arches to fail as well but since they ran at different times
they pulled different versions of build dependencies. This will likely
get fixed on a rebuild and these are getting queued en masse, so I'm
marking as invalid unless we have a reason to track this later.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2059847] Re: Input lag in native terminal on Nvidia desktops with X11

2024-04-02 Thread Cristiano Fraga G. Nunes
I've found a workaround:

I conducted a fresh installation of Ubuntu 22.04.4 and subsequently
marked specific packages for holding using the following commands:

$ sudo apt-mark hold gir1.2-mutter-10
$ sudo apt-mark hold libmutter-10-0
$ sudo apt-mark hold mutter-common

Following this, I proceeded to update all packages.
So, I'm currently utilizing version "42.9-0ubuntu5" of the mutter packages,
instead of version "42.9-0ubuntu7."

Now, my system is with packages:

  But custom css might achieve … something ?

argument to doing the update: it will be significantly easier to backport
bugfixes if Ubuntu 24.04 LTS is using the GTK4 version rather than by trying to
port those fixes to GTK3.

  Although switching apps to GTK4 was problematic for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS,

  Potential Problems

  The new release drops the AppMenu option. In other words, showing a
traditional File/Edit/View menu instead of a hamburger ☰ menu.

  Out of the desktop flavors that ship file-roller, it looks like this

2024-04-02 Thread fossfreedom
I have done a quick test with ubuntu budgie and nemo.

For some unknown reason, the right-click compress option no longer
compresses the chosen folder. This worked with the gtk3 version.

Extracting an archive does work and correctly uncompresses the tar.gz

Potentially there is a compatibility issue between nemo-fileroller and
the new fileroller.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2056767] Re: FFe: Sync gnome-software 46.0-4 (universe) from Debian unstable (main) with gnome-software packaging split

2024-04-02 Thread Jeremy Bícha
** Description changed:

  Impact
  --
  I request permission to sync the gnome-software packaging from Debian. The
biggest change is splitting gnome-software's .deb support into a separate
package, gnome-software-plugin-deb, to match the existing -snap and -flatpak
packages. This will allow users and flavors to specifically opt into the parts
of the GNOME Software experience they want. For instance, someone may want to
use only the Flatpak part because they use the Snap Store to manage .debs and
Snaps. Or maybe they want a different combination.

  This has been requested by multiple users on Ubuntu Discourse and at
  least one Launchpad bug and one Debian bug.

  fwupd plugin

  I am dropping the fwupd plugin (now in a separate package too) to Suggests so
upgrades to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS will likely get it uninstalled and new installs
won't have it either unless a user explicitly installs it later.

  Ubuntu Desktop includes the firmware-updater snap. Several Ubuntu
  desktop flavors also include it. For people who don't want snaps, there
  is also the gnome-firmware app packaged as a .deb.

  Because Ubuntu already has update-manager to handle apt update
  notifications, I am also dropping the autostart file to reduce
  background RAM use.

  A few Ubuntu desktop flavors do not provide any firmware updater app at
  all. Ubuntu Budgie developers thought a firmware updater app was too
  technical for inclusion in the default Ubuntu 24.04 LTS install.

  autostart
  -
  I have also dropped the autostart file since the fwupd plugin is no longer
included by default and Ubuntu already has ways to notify users about available
apt updates (update-manager and unattended upgrades) and snaps already
automatically update.

  Potential Problems
  ---
  gnome-software has an explicit Recommend: gnome-software-plugin-deb so that
people upgrading to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS will keep the deb support installed. That
recommends will be dropped for Ubuntu 26.04 LTS because it won't be needed
then. (There is a Depends on the virtual packages that enable installing apps.)

This should not impact Ubuntu Cinnamon as I don't believe there are any
components that specifically rely heavily on gnome-software.
ubuntucinnamon-meta will need to add the new entry for gnome-software-
plugin-deb, but that's about it.

2024-04-02 Thread Lukas Märdian
LGTM and matches upstream changes. Build OK. We'd also want this for
Mantic, before backporting to Jammy. The patch is simple enough that I
did that for you!

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  Bug is impacting the suspend/resume flow when there is no input device
  connected to machine. xorg hangs in this case.

  [Where problems could occur]

  The problem could occur in places where there is no input device
  connected to the system but a suspend/resume is triggered.

  [Test Case]

  * Enable proposed updates (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed)
  * Update xorg-server to the version in -proposed: sudo apt install -t
jammy-proposed xorg-server
  * Unplug all USB devices such as USB drive, keyboard, mouse, etc.
  * Set RTC timer and suspend the system via UART console
  $ echo 8 > /proc/sys/kernel/printk
  $ sudo rtcwake -v -m no -s 240
  $ sudo systemctl suspend

  [Regression Potential]

  The patch defines a default behavior in systemd_logind_drop_master
  function so there is a possibility that there might be a regression
  that may affect all the systems that utilizes
  systemd_logind_drop_master

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  Bug is impacting the suspend/resume flow when there is no input device
  connected to machine. xorg hangs in this case.

  [Where problems could occur]

  The problem could occur in places where there is no input device
  connected to the system but a suspend/resume is triggered.

  [Test Case]

  * Enable proposed updates (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed)
  * Update xorg-server to the version in -proposed: sudo apt install -t
jammy-proposed xorg-server
  * Unplug all USB devices such as USB drive, keyboard, mouse, etc.
  * Set RTC timer and suspend the system via UART console
  $ echo 8 > /proc/sys/kernel/printk
  $ sudo rtcwake -v -m no -s 240
  $ sudo systemctl suspend

  [Regression Potential]

  The patch defines a default behavior in systemd_logind_drop_master
  function so there is a possibility that there might be a regression
  that may affect all the systems that utilizes
  systemd_logind_drop_master

  Almost copy-paste of original report:

  When upgrading Ubuntu Desktop from 22.04 to 24.04, there's often
  (pretty much always) a crash from tracker-extract, as described in the
  following error report:

  https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/7a86fbf0-b52b-11ee-b9e4-fa163e171f02

  The crash occurs during the upgrade, which means it's fairly hard to
  investigate exactly what's going on as apport fails to extract a stack
  trace, the binaries being overwritten during the upgrade.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2059847] Re: Input lag in native terminal on Nvidia desktops with X11

2024-04-02 Thread Charlie Page
Same issue, I've noticed something very strange. If the below lines are
commented out, the lag takes a few minutes to kick in (vs immediately when not
commented out).
edit /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/61-gdm.rules
comment out the 2 lines:
RUN+="/usr/libexec/gdm-runtime-config set daemon PreferredDisplayServer xorg"
RUN+="/usr/libexec/gdm-runtime-config set daemon WaylandEnable false"
As a side note, Wayland does not well work for me, however,
/etc/gdm3/custom.conf forces x11.
i.e.
echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE
x11

Actually it's in 'release' now. But you may not get it automatically
while 'updates' points to an older version.

Just wait for any version 3.7.x

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2059847] Re: Input lag in native terminal on Nvidia desktops with X11

2024-04-02 Thread LGB [Gábor Lénárt]
I have similar problem. I'm currently using Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS (x86_64).
Since some days (maybe three?) I see very odd behaviour from programs
running in gnome-terminal (or xfce4-terminal if it does not matter, I
guess the problem is not the terminal itself but VTE probably or
similar? - no problem when using KDE's Konsole for example!). I also
have nvidia's driver.

Some programs "only" have very significant input delay, sometimes like 1
sec or so. However interestingly some programs (most notably neomutt)
has "infinite" delay, ie, it lags behind exactly one key. For example if
I move upwards in the email list, then pressing down still moves up
once. And so on, it seems to be true for all keys. Other applications
running in terminal seems to "only" have more significant delay, but
it's not always consistent. Especially ssh'ing to a remote machine is a
very bad experience now, but even on the local host, without any ssh
involved just the shell, it's very notable.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2017011] Re: [snap] unable to read /proc/pressure/{cpu, io, memory}

2024-04-02 Thread Nathan Teodosio
I'm changing the logging period from 10 minutes to 10 days, as in this
case it's better not to suppress the error entirely as the information
in those files might be used for something more substantial in the
future.

I pushed the changes to beta and edge, the latter of which is currently
building. Once the change is confirmed I'll push it to stable too.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2059756] Re: [SRU] adsys 0.14.1

2024-04-02 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
** Description changed:

  [context]
  ADSys is a tool designed for administering and implementing Group Policy
Objects (GPOs) from Active Directory on Linux systems. It includes a suite of
services and commands that empower administrators to efficiently manage policy
updates and maintain compliance with organizational business rules.

  Given that ADSys directly interfaces with Active Directory and needs to
  align with new business requirements in LTS releases, it has been
  essential to keep the package consistently updated with the latest
  changes of ADSys upstream source. As ADSys is a key component of our
  commercial offerings, our customers anticipate the availability of
  recently implemented features in the 22.04 release.

  Now that ADSys has a complete set of features, the request is to proceed
  with a one-off release of ADSys 0.14.1 to 22.04. Please note that any
  new features introduced in subsequent versions will be exclusively
  available in 24.04 and later releases.

  This version includes a comprehensive end to end automated test suite
  that runs ADSys against a real Active directory environment.

  Version 0.14.1 is available for 22.04 in a PPA
  (https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-enterprise-desktop/+archive/ubuntu/adsys)
  and already used in production by customers.

  At this time of writing the number of open issues is 1 in Launchpad and
  16 in GitHub including 6 enhancements. None of them have a high or
  critical importance.

  It seems the AppAmor profile should be updated to allow Chromium
  access to the pressure stall information for it to monitor and manage
  it's processes?
