  [context]
ADSys is a tool designed for administering and implementing Group Policy
Objects (GPOs) from Active Directory on Linux systems. It includes a suite of
services and commands that empower administrators to efficiently manage policy
updates and maintain compliance with organizational business rules.

Given that ADSys directly interfaces with Active Directory and needs
to align with new business requirements in LTS releases, it has been
essential to keep the package consistently updated with the latest
changes of ADSys upstream source. As ADSys is a key component of our
commercial offerings, our customers anticipate the availability of
recently implemented features in the 22.04 release.

Now that ADSys has a complete set of features, the request is to
proceed with a one-off release of ADSys 0.14.1 to 22.04. Please note
that any new features introduced in subsequent versions will be
exclusively available in 24.04 and later releases.

This version includes a comprehensive end to end automated test suite
that runs ADSys against a real Active directory environment.

Version 0.14.1 is available for 22.04 in a PPA
  (https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-enterprise-
desktop/+archive/ubuntu/adsys) and already used in production by
  customers.

At this time of writing the number of open issues is 1 in Launchpad
and 16 in GitHub including 6 enhancements. None of them have a high or
  critical importance.

Bug description:
The next chromium version is making rustc mandatory to build. Chromium
is a snap built from core22 so using the jammy packages, the build is
currently failing because it needs libprofiler_builtins.rlib which
  isn't available.

Upstream provides toolchain builds that can be used but only for amd64 so
currently the snap is failing to build on arm
  https://launchpad.net/~chromium-team/+snap/chromium-snap-from-source-beta

The version upstream is using is 1.75 but it's possible that a lower
version would be enough for now if libprofiler was enabled

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2060349] [NEW] gdm3 launches without any login widgets

2024-04-06 Thread Dylan Borg
Public bug reported:

When the "login screen" it is just a black screen with the top bar (all
parts of it work). The user choser and the widgets for typing in the
password are completely missing.

I have reinstalled the gnome-shell-common package (indicated in a forum
post) to no avail. For now I have resorted to using sddm (with breeze)
to have a functional login greeter, but doing this I have lost the gdm3
to gnome-shell integration such as smooth screen locking etc.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2060350] [NEW] all windows under gnome shell lack the close, minimize and maximize buttons

2024-04-06 Thread Dylan Borg
Public bug reported:

Using gnome-shell 46 on noble, no window seems to be rendering the
close, maximize and minimize buttons. Trying to click in the top right
corner to look for buttons that are transparent yielded no result. The
buttons seem to not be present at all.

I have tried to reinstall gnome-shell-common since a forum post
indicates that it contains the assets required to draw those buttons,
but it was all in vain.

As a workaround I am riht clicking on the window title/headerbars to
reveal the context menu with which I can close the window successfully.

This seems to be related to the issue where gdm3 is not drawing the
login widgets at all (switched to sddm to workaround).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2059847] Re: Input lag or freezes on Nvidia desktops with X11

2024-04-06 Thread Nathan Bryant
The fix in the PPA is not working for me on Jammy: the lag may be gone,
but some rendering is intermittently missed.

Some info:

linux-image-6.5.0-27-generic 6.5.0-27.28~22.04.1
nvidia-driver-550 550.67-0ubuntu1.22.04.1

Maybe related in journalctl:

I think something similar was happening on nvidia-driver-535; I upgraded
to 550 in an attempt to fix this.

Anywhere in Nvidia (proprietary driver) Xorg sessions since that's the
  code being modified.

  [ Original Description ]

There is a noticeable delay in input while using the native terminal.
I belive it was caused by a recent software update, as this issue is
  relatively new.

"Unnamed" actions on Rhythmbox's icon right-click menu

Status in rhythmbox package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  This is from https://askubuntu.com/q/1506260/1004020 .

I'm using Rhythmbox 3.4.7 and as you can see on the picture bellow, there are
some Unnamed options on Rhythmbox's icon right-click menu:
I've tried to copy org.gnome.Rhythmbox.desktop and
org.gnome.Rhythmbox.device.desktop files data from Rhythmbox's GitLab to
/usr/share/applications (same .desktop files), but nothing has changed.
I guess that something is wrong with [Desktop Action ...] entries
I've found a solution. [Desktop Action ...] entries were missing the Name
properties

  # What you expected to happen

There should not be any unnamed entries in the GNOME dock or left bar
when you right click for the context menu.
  https://askubuntu.com/q/1506260/1004020

  # What happened instead

The 4 unnamed entries appear in Ubuntu GNOME. Oddly they don't appear
in KDE, but this is a GNOME bug either way because Rhythmbox is made
  by GNOME.

  # Analysis

The self-answerer added names for the 4 desktop actions. This appeared
to fix the problem. However, the new names lack localization. One
thing is that the 4 actions will show all the time even if Rhythmbox
is not open. Based on the behaviour on KDE, I think that the GNOME
developers' original intent was to populate the 4 entries using the
running application and hide them otherwise.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2060354] Re: Segfault in 2:21.1.4-2ubuntu1.7-22.04.9

2024-04-06 Thread Javier Noval
In my case (Android Studio 2023.2.1, also based on IntelliJ, on a fully-
updated Jammy), with the editor antialiasing set to "grayscale", the
crash is 100% reproducible (same stacktrace) as soon as any file is
opened. The default setting, "subpixel", doesn't seem to cause any
issues.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2060331] [NEW] add-apt-repository --list not returning any deb822 repositories

2024-04-06 Thread Josh Lopez
Public bug reported:

Recreating the following bug report (#2052851) with a new title per
Jeremy Bícha's (jbicha) request:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-
properties/+bug/2052851

---

On Ubuntu 23.10:

* When adding a PPA, 'add-apt-repository' will add the repository in the
new deb822 format as a '.sources' file in
'/etc/apt/sources.list.d'

* However, 'add-apt-repository --list' cannot see/understand the new
'.sources' file

For example, with the flacon ppa
(https://launchpad.net/~flacon/+archive/ubuntu/ppa):

1. 'sudo add-apt-repository ppa:flacon/ppa' adds the flacon repo as
'/etc/apt/sources.list.d/flacon-ubuntu-ppa-mantic.sources'

2. apt can install and update from the new repo, as expected. you can
also remove the repo, as expected, by running 'sudo add-apt-repository
--remove ppa:flacon/ppa'

3. However, 'add-apt-repository --list' does not list the repo as it
should. GUI package managers such as Muon and Synaptic also do not see
the new repo.

It makes working with packages frustrating, and unfortunately, per
Julian Andres Klode (juliank), there seems to be no plan to fix the
broken 'software-properties-common' any time soon. See here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-

start my reply at the top of the message. I do it this way so the To:
field is filled out for the reply and so the message is tagged as
  replied, not forwarded.

I am requesting that tb be enhanced to provide an additional option
for reply style, which is "reply by forwarding inline."

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1917926] Re: Window focus/clicking/moving failures for Xorg sessions in 3.38.3-3ubuntu1

2024-04-06 Thread jimav
The problem is still (or maybe regressed again?) there in Ubuntu 23.10, xorg
session, with
  libmutter-13-0:amd64

Major non-gnome desktop apps, such as LibreOffice and Firefox to not
raise when clicking in their titlebar, however gnome-terminal, gnome-
settings and maybe other gnome-* raise as expected.

--> Was the root cause masked by some work-around now built into gnome
apps?

Window focus/clicking/moving failures for Xorg sessions in
  3.38.3-3ubuntu1

Status in mutter package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I switched to an Xorg session in hirsute today after upgrading gnome-
shell and mutter packages which just hit the release package. There
are very strange focus issues. Clicking on a window doesn't raise it
to the front, alt-tab seems to only switch between a subset of the one
windows. It's impossible to move windows with the mouse and resizing
  does not work.

  This occurred with:
  gnome-shell=3.38.3-3ubuntu1
  mutter=3.38.3-3ubuntu1

  Downgrading these packages fixed it:
  gnome-shell=3.38.3-2ubuntu2
  mutter=3.38.3-2ubuntu1

connection using vnc, cause I could not due Wayland was a new

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2060358] [NEW] Please add German (Noted) layout

2024-04-06 Thread Benjamin Drung
Public bug reported:

Please add the newest layout of the German Neo keyboard layout family.
Noted is a layout designed to make typing as comfortable and efficient
as possible in both German and English. It was developed with the help
of a layout optimizer, which is based on the metrics and concepts of
ArneBab's optimizer and adapts and extends them.

I switched from Neo 2 via Mine to Noted and I like to see this variant
to be available out of the box in Ubuntu.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1968887] Re: Save As Dialog Box does not get focus in Ubuntu 22.04

2024-04-06 Thread Thomas Burger
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1949340 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1949340

Is there any estimate when this is being solved? This is really annoying.
We upgraded the family to 22.04 LTS (using Firefox) and are now affected by
this.
Everything is updated to the most current level.
Thank you.

Title:
Save As Dialog Box does not get focus in Ubuntu 22.04

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When using a browser to right click a file and save as, the save as
window does not get focus, which means you can't just type the name of
the file you want, you have to force focus onto the window to use it
  by clicking it.

This defeats the entire purpose of 2 built in features, 1 being the
pre-selected original file name (since you can't rename until you re-
aquire focus for that window, thereby undoing the pre-selection
programmed in) and 2, the ability to quickly save the file with a
  keystroke.

A side note to this, ubuntu-bug should have an option to report bugs
with other WITHOUT having to specify a package. This is a bug in
ubuntu-bug. Not a feature. Because we don't always know what
package(s) are involved. This needs to be addressed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2059847] Re: Input lag or freezes on Nvidia desktops with X11

2024-04-06 Thread LGB [Gábor Lénárt]
Probably not related, but "nvidia-driver-535" was mentioned above in a
post. I'm now using ppa:vanvugt/mutter and it seems to be fine, but apt
also upgraded nvidia driver from 525 to 535 (maybe not related at all
just the new nvidia driver was presented now?). Since then I have hard
lock-ups on my system what I've never seen before (no keyboard and mouse
works). After forced power-off I see this in the kernel log file:

Apr 5 15:42:57 rygel kernel: [ 3282.354685] NVRM: GPU at PCI::01:00:

created. If possible, please run

Apr 5 15:42:57 rygel kernel: [ 3282.354730] NVRM: the NVIDIA kernel module is

NVIDIA:nvidia.prime:11cbb timed out (hint:intel_atomic_commit_ready [i915])

I've never seen anything similar before, though I have this very
system/install with nvidia's driver since more than a year or so. Since
it's probably a totally different issue (though I am not 100% sure),
I've reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-
graphics-drivers-535/+bug/2060303

It seems now this hard lock up occurs several times per day :( Though
the terminal slowness/keyboard input lag/etc is gone, which is good, of
course!

Bug description:
  [ Impact ]

Input or the entire screen may freeze at times on systems using the
  Nvidia Xorg driver with GNOME.

  [ Test Plan ]

  0. Set up a desktop with Nvidia driver 545 or 550.
  1. Log into Ubuntu, ensuring it's a Xorg session.
  2. Open a Terminal, resize it vigorously, and type several lines of text.
  3. Verify that input never froze for any perceptible period of time.
  4. Run: journalctl -b0 | grep MetaSyncRing
  5. Verify the above command does NOT show messages such as:

Window manager warning: MetaSyncRing: Sync object is not ready -- were events
handled properly?
Window manager warning: MetaSyncRing: Sync object is not ready -- were events
handled properly?
Window manager warning: MetaSyncRing: Sync object is not ready -- were events
handled properly?
Window manager warning: MetaSyncRing: Too many reboots -- disabling

[ Where problems could occur ]

Anywhere in Nvidia (proprietary driver) Xorg sessions since that's the
  code being modified.

  [ Original Description ]

There is a noticeable delay in input while using the native terminal.
I belive it was caused by a recent software update, as this issue is
  relatively new.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2060291] Re: Horizonral line artifact/ghosting when scaling windows to a certain width

2024-04-06 Thread Abram Wiebe
The artifact moves when the window moves, which suggests that something
is either wrong with the library drawing on the surface (supported by
only some programs being affected), or the compositor.

Bug description:
  [Summary]
When use the ThinkPluse xt99 bluetooth head set to run the test
com.canonical.certification::bluetooth/audio_record_playback, it cannot record
the sound and playback.
It seems this device cannot switch to Hand free mode in this platform.

  [Steps to reproduce]
Connect the ThinkPluse xt99, use the Handfree mode, then try to record some
voice.

  [Expected result]
The bluetooth headset ThinkPluse xt99 can use as a MIC to input sound.

  [Actual result]
The bluetooth headset xt99 cannot work in the Handfree mode.

  [Failure rate]
  100%

  [Impact]
With the current Ubuntu 22.04 oem image, we try to connect the LENOVO
XT99 bt headset and let it work in HFP mode, we select HFP profile
from gnome sound-setting, but the microphone will not auto change to
bt microphone and the bt output could not work too. So this BT headset
could only work in A2DP mode with the current 22.04 OEM image.

And we tried ubuntu 22.04 generic image, mantic image and noble image,
none of them could make the headset work in HFP mode.

  [Fix]
Cherry-pick a pulseaudio commit from upstream.

  [Test]
I installed ubuntu 22.04 and 23.10 on 2 different Thinkpad laptops, then
upgraded the pulseaudio from my ppa (ppa:hui.wang/pa-testing), in theory my
change only affects bluetooth audio devices, it will not bring any impact to
non-audio bluetooth devices, here I did the test with 7 bluetooth audio devices
and 2 non-audio devices:

BT audio devices (pairing, connection, re-connection, playback and capture
all worked well):
  PLT_BBTGO2 (headset)
  Xiaomi Air3 SE (headset)
  Crusher Wireless (headset)
  SOAIY S18 (sound box)
  HK Soho Wireless (headset)
  Thinkplus XT99 (headset)
  Wl-1000X (headset)

BT non-audio devices (pairing, connection, re-connection, key input all
worked well):
  BT3.0 Keyboard
  The Pinao 2 keyboard

  [Where problems could occur]
This change will impact bt headset negotiation process in the pulseaudio,
so the possiblity of regression is limited to bt headset, it could make
the bt headset fail to connect, but this possibility is very low, we tested
the patch with different bt headset and bt speaker, all worked well.

Here is the debdiff. I tested this change and the layout on noble (via

should have a low regression risk since it just add a new keyboard

Please add the newest layout of the German Neo keyboard layout family.
Noted is a layout designed to make typing as comfortable and efficient

ArneBab's optimizer and adapts and extends them.

I switched from Neo 2 via Mine to Noted and I like to see this variant

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2017452] Re: On run, nautilus opens two windows instead of one

2024-04-06 Thread ԜаӀtеr Ⅼарсһуnѕkі
Wow, this one's weird. Some observations:
 1. It only happens once.
 2. It also happens if you click on the menu entry instead of using the runner.
 3. Doesn't happen if you run `nautilus` in terminal.
 4. The Exec line of the desktop file is `nautilus --new window`.
 5. Doesn't happen if you run `nautilus --new window` in terminal.

Don't have any clue how one fixes or where it's coming from exactly, but
I suspect that desktop file is somehow involved.

In my business environment, TOFU is the norm. (Most people use

provides when I forward messages. So I am always opening the message
twice. First I click forward, then I copy the next, then I close that
window, then I click reply, then I paste the forwarded text, then I
start my reply at the top of the message. I do it this way so the To:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1987159] Re: Drop VNC support from GNOME Remote Desktop in Kinetic

2024-04-06 Thread Abram Wiebe
This should at the very least be a setting, or you should provide a way
to hook an arbitrary screen sharing service into the control panel so a
3rd party developer can still provide an integrated interface to manage
the service.

Title:
Drop VNC support from GNOME Remote Desktop in Kinetic

Status in gnome-control-center package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in gnome-remote-desktop package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
RDP has significantly improved privacy and performance compared to
  VNC.

I am struggling to find any use cases where GNOME's VNC should be
  preferred to RDP.

GNOME is so far unwilling to provide full VNC options in the GNOME
  Settings app.

The VNC feature was labeled as Legacy in Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.

There is value in only providing a single remote desktop method by
  default that works well.

gnome-remote-desktop 43 by default only builds the RDP provider and so
far I haven't seen complaints about that.

Therefore, I think we should drop the VNC feature for Ubuntu 22.10.

  Otherwise, we need to:
  1. enable VNC in gnome-remote-desktop 43
  2. Update the VNC patch in gnome-control-center 43

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2060291] [NEW] Horizonral line artifact/ghosting when scaling windows to a certain width

2024-04-06 Thread Abram Wiebe
Public bug reported:

When scaling some windows in some programs down horizontal lines appear
that seem to be part of the texture memory somewhere else on the screen.

This only occurs in some programs like nautilus and gedit, but not in
others like terminal or Firefox.

It did however occur when I opened the dialog in firefox to attach the
screen capture.

Hello,

I am sorry that I had not noticed your question earlier.

It would be better if you sent your question to the "Launchpad"
discussion, where there are many more people who have much more knowledge
  than I have.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2060291] Re: Horizonral line artifact/ghosting when scaling windows to a certain width

2024-04-06 Thread Abram Wiebe
Problem did not occur on prior Ubuntu 20.04. I upgraded because the
intel graphics acceleration for Intel N95 chipset was not supported.
Thus the system used software rendering.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2052851] Re: add-apt-repository Cannot Manage deb822 Repository Sources

2024-04-06 Thread Jeremy Bícha
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 2033949 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2033949

I marked this as a duplicate because Ubuntu 24.04 LTS does handle PPAs
now. I recommend trying Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Beta when it is released soon.

Could you open a separate issue for add-apt-repository --list not
returning any deb822 repositories?

  (https://launchpad.net/~flacon/+archive/ubuntu/ppa):

  1. 'sudo add-apt-repository ppa:flacon/ppa' adds the flacon repo as
  '/etc/apt/sources.list.d/flacon-ubuntu-ppa-mantic.sources'

  2. apt can install and update from the new repo, as expected. you can
also remove the repo, as expected, by running 'sudo add-apt-repository
  --remove ppa:flacon/ppa'

  3. However, 'add-apt-repository --list' does not list the repo as it
should. GUI package managers such as Muon and Synaptic also do not see
  the new repo.

It makes working with packages quite frustrating, and unfortunately,
per Julian Andres Klode (juliank), there seems to be no plan to fix
the broken 'software-properties-common' any time soon. See here:

Some similar issues involve a stripe of corrupted graphics memory along
the entire width of the framebuffer. THIS IS NOT THAT ISSUE. It's more
like a bunch of 1px lines are spilling an image from somewhere else on
the screen. In particular one of the screenshots shows the taskbar
spilling on top of the desktop background by way of a nautilus window.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2059847] Re: Input lag or freezes on Nvidia desktops with X11

2024-04-06 Thread Andrew Fernandes
Daniel (@vanvugt) Thank you very much for your hard work, out-of-band
patch (the ppa!), and speed addressing this extremely subtle, yet
annoying bug... much appreciated!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2060266] [NEW] gnome-session no longer supports --builtin

2024-04-06 Thread Haw Loeung
Public bug reported:

Hi,

`gnome-session.service` has the following:

| [Service]
| ExecStart=/bin/sh -exc '[ "$DESKTOP_SESSION" != "gnome-classic" ] || export |
GNOME_SHELL_SESSION_MODE=classic; \
| export GNOME_SESSION_XDG_SESSION_PATH=${XDG_SESSION_PATH}; \
| [ "$DESKTOP_SESSION" = gnome-flashback-metacity ] && \
| exec gnome-session --builtin --session=$DESKTOP_SESSION
--disable-acceleration-check || \
| exec gnome-session --builtin --session=$DESKTOP_SESSION'

Unfortunately, the latest `gnome-session` no longer supports
`--builtin`. This causes login failures, in particular for me, using
Unity, I get logged back out from the unity greeter.

| $ apt-cache policy gnome-session-bin
| gnome-session-bin:
| Installed: 46.0-1ubuntu2
| Candidate: 46.0-1ubuntu2

amd64 Packages

| $ gnome-session --builtin
|
| ** (gnome-session-binary:5602): WARNING **: 15:35:22.156: Unknown option
--builtin

Removing `--builtin` from `/usr/lib/systemd/user/gnome-session.service`
let's me log in.

With that though, I was not able to input text in chromium (installed
via the snap).

Downgrading `gnome-session-bin`, `gnome-session-common`, and `unity-
session` back to 45.0-1ubuntu1 restores things for me:
