I'm attached a photo of the screen (as, while I could take a screenshot during the process, it evidently wasn't saved somewhere persistent). I originally thought this might be a regression of LP: #1924251 as the corruption in the window looks very similar (incorrect horizontal stride causing "banding"), but I tested the embedded browser (via the help system) after completing setup and it worked perfectly so that's *probably* unrelated. This issue may not be a kernel regression but instead a wayland regression but I am not certain and looking for help. The issue is that on boot the (internal laptop and external displays if connected) are black but backlight is lit. I am able to boot into recovery mode without issue since the graphics drivers are not loaded in that case (only amd framebuffer driver and userspace mesa llvmpipe). Cold boot from OFF seems to be the most common case for this issue and it happens about 50-75% of the time from there. I have to force power the device off and try again in this case. Cold boot from OFF seems to be the most common

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2063128] Re: Upgrade from mantic to noble shows a debconf prompt
This has never been a problem in previous upgrades, so something in jackd2 must've changed in the debian packaging. We don't maintain this in Ubuntu but rely on syncs from Debian. Furthermore, we usually force this in when upgrading, so I'm surprised this is even happening. Perhaps we can add it as a quirk for `ubuntu-release-upgrader` to help with? ** Also affects: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags added: rls-nn-incoming ** Changed in: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Nick Rosbrook (enr0n) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to jackd2 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2063128 Title: Upgrade from mantic to noble shows a debconf prompt Status in jackd2 package in Ubuntu: New Status in ubuntu-release-upgrader package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Reproducer: * Run Ubuntu Studio Mantic in a VM * Run `do-release-upgrade -d` to upgrade it to Noble * After the package download phase, the packages upgrade starts, and you quickly get prompted by jackd2 asking `Enable realtime process priority?` This can be avoided with `export DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive`, that's why it didn't show up in the CI, but we can't expect users to rely on this. Public bug reported: Reproducer: * Run Ubuntu Studio Mantic in a VM * Run `do-release-upgrade -d` to upgrade it to Noble * After the package download phase, the packages upgrade starts, and you quickly get prompted by jackd2 asking `Enable realtime process priority?` This can be avoided with `export DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive`, that's why it didn't show up in the CI, but we can't expect users to rely on this. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2062916] Re: evolution has undefined symbol in newest libwebkit2gtk
I noticed this issue as well. But I will like to tell that its not due to mesa. I have verified that libgbm provided by mesa does have the function. In my case I am running mali drivers on one of my SBCs and its the libmali.so file that provides libgbm.so for me. The libmali.so file lacked the gbm_bo_create_with_modifiers2 function. I created a shim library based on the code from XWayland that solved the problem for me. The code for shim library can be find here - https://github.com/viraniac/mali- debs/blob/783569da2c73485db24c54ce4d7d0813d308f2a5/noble/arm64/VIM4/wayland/src/gbm_bo_create_with_modifiers2.c -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to webkit2gtk in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2062916 Title: evolution has undefined symbol in newest libwebkit2gtk Status in evolution package in Ubuntu: New Status in webkit2gtk package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: evolution: symbol lookup error: /lib/x86_64-linux- gnu/libwebkit2gtk-4.0.so.37: undefined symbol: gbm_bo_create_with_modifiers2 The libwebkit2gtk version is libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37_2.44.0-0ubuntu0.22.04.1_amd64.deb To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/2062916/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1944746] Re: LibreOffice from Ubuntu Store/snaps broken GNOME integration for remote smb shares
This issue is still present with the current latest Libreoffice Snap version (24.2.2.2) both in Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and in the 24.04 Beta. SMB shares and other GVFS mounted network locations are not visible in the Open/Save file window. If I try to manually navigate to the files under `/run/user//gvfs/` I'm getting a 'Permission denied' error. If I open the file directly from Nautilus using right-click 'Open With', instead I get the attached error. ** Attachment added: "Screenshot from 2024-04-22 15-34-32.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1944746/+attachment/5769396/+files/Screenshot%20from%202024-04-22%2015-34-32.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1944746 Title: LibreOffice from Ubuntu Store/snaps broken GNOME integration for remote smb shares Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: 1) lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 21.04 Release: 21.04 2) Name Version RevTracking Publisher Notes snap list | grep libreoffice libreoffice 7.2.1.2 235 latest/edge canonical* - apt-cache policy gnome-shell gnome-shell: Installed: 3.38.4-1ubuntu3~21.04.1 Candidate: 3.38.4-1ubuntu3~21.04.1 Version table: *** 3.38.4-1ubuntu3~21.04.1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute-updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3.38.4-1ubuntu2 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute/main amd64 Packages 3) What I expected to happen is using any version of LibreOffice snaps from Ubuntu Software app (i.e. https://snapcraft.io/libreoffice ) works as it does as if I used the default install of libreoffice. Specifically, when I open the GNOME Files program via the icon on the bar on the left, I have an smb share already added via "Other Locations". When I use the default libreoffice install version as per below, when I attempt to open a file in Libreoffice Calc, the share is visible and I'm able to open files, edit, save, close, etc.: apt-cache policy libreoffice libreoffice: Installed: (none) Candidate: 1:7.1.6-0ubuntu0.21.04.1 Version table: 1:7.1.6-0ubuntu0.21.04.1 500 (phased 70%) 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute-updates/universe amd64 Packages 1:7.1.2~rc2-0ubuntu2 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute/universe amd64 Packages 4) However, when I completely remove all things libreoffice-* via command line, then install the snap version, the smb share is not visible. It's confirmed all packages associated with default install are removed, and only the snap is installed. I've tried completely removing each snap and trying a different version (e.g. stable, candidate, edge) but it's the same problem. I'm guessing it's something borked with the libreoffice-gnome integration between the snap and the GNOME environment but that's a wild guess. I tried the snap package as the default install Draw kept crashing opening a particular file, and was hoping to work around it by installing later snap version. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2048781] Re: [MIR] authd
We decided to remove the authd package in noble for the time being. The current implementation (in particular the one in the PAM module) is not up to our standard in terms of quality and what we are confortable to support in the long term. Rather than releasing as is and having risky SRUs in the future changing a large part of the implementation, we decided against this and rather polishing the code, securing it, adding even more tests and releasing all that as a new package SRUed to the 24.04 LTS in the coming months. That way, we won’t risk to regress any potential users and we will use an architecture we are more confortable supporting for the next 5/10 years of the LTS release. It means that when we reintroduce it, we will rerequest a new MIR too as the PAM module will largely change and we want to ensure we follow the process and quality standard we expect for the Ubuntu distribution. ** Changed in: authd (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to authd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2048781 Title: [MIR] authd Status in authd package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: [Availability] - The package authd is already in Ubuntu universe. - The package authd build for the architectures it is designed to work on. - It currently builds and works for architectures: amd64, arm64, armhf, ppc64el, riscv64, s390x - Link to package https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/authd [Rationale] - Authd is the foundation for cloud-based authentication and MFA support on Ubuntu and identity providers such as Open ID connect or Microsoft Azure / Entra ID. This package also enables partners to create their own authentication brokers. - The package authd is required to be in main for enabling cloud authentication at provisioning time. - The package authd will generally be useful for corporate users. - No package in main or universe currently offers cloud authentication capabilities. - The target release is the next LTS 24.04 LTS. [Security] - This is a new software developed and maintained by Canonical. It has no security history. - No CVEs/security issues in this software in the past (There are false positives. authd is an authentication daemon for Junos and VMWare): - (0) https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvekey.cgi?keyword=authd - (0) https://ubuntu.com/security/cves?q==authd - (0) https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/source-package/authd - no `suid` or `sgid` binaries - Package does install a dpkg trigger on /usr/lib/linux/efi - Packages does not open privileged ports (ports < 1024) - Packages does not contain extensions to security-sensitive software - It installs a service in /usr/sbin/authd, running as root. The service has some systemd confinement. - It installs a PAM module - It installs an NSS module. - Communication between authd and its brokers is done over DBus - Communication between the pam/nss module and authd are done over a local DBus socket (socket activated service), using grpc. - Security has been kept in mind and common isolation/risk-mitigation patterns are in place utilizing systemd isolation features, cache directory permissions are 0700, cache file permissions are 0600. - /!\ This requires a security review. [Quality assurance - function/usage] - The package needs post install configuration and reading of documentation. - There isn't a safe default because the administrator must configure the selected authentication broker corresponding to their identity providers. - Once installed without additional configuration, PAM requests are ignored by authd. [Quality assurance - maintenance] - The Ubuntu Desktop team (~desktop-packages) maintains this package. It doesn’t have any long-term and critical, open bugs: - https://github.com/ubuntu/authd/issues - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/authd [Quality assurance - testing] - There is a comprehensive, non-trivial, testsuite. The testsuite includes integration and functional tests. - The testsuite runs at build time. The branch coverage is 89%: - https://github.com/ubuntu/authd/actions/workflows/qa.yaml?query=branch%3Amain - https://app.codecov.io/gh/ubuntu/authd - The same test suite runs as autopkgtest. It is passing on all supported architectures. Links to test logs: - https://launchpadlibrarian.net/701470374/buildlog_ubuntu-noble-amd64.authd_0.1_BUILDING.txt.gz - arm64 tests are flaky due to a Rust regression that makes the build very slow and timing out. - Currently, autopkgtests and package build are skipping integration tests (because it needs a VHS binary). The diff itself will not be meaningful. Part of meaningful fixes are the default group being added and ssh precheck API. Full changelog is available at https://github.com/ubuntu/authd/pull/237/files. It also fixes a vulnerability by depending on latest Go and latest x/net/http. This is the code level we are testing and relying on. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2055012] Re: When I upgraded from 22.04 to 24.04, DNS resolution went wrong.
While upgrading, i noticed the whole screen became white and it has the error "Oh, no! Something has gone wrong and the system cannot recover. Call the system administrator”. Now it cannot boot at all. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2055012 Title: When I upgraded from 22.04 to 24.04, DNS resolution went wrong. Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I was an unpatient idiot, and I upgraded from 22.04 to 24.04. Near to the end of the upgrade, I got an „Oh, no! Something has gone wrong and the system cannot recover. Call the system administrator” message after a red FAILED in the terminal. The system administrator is myself, because my computer is a personal one. Hard reset, same error, Ctrl+Alt+F3, sudo apt reinstall gdm3. Obviously. I needed to finish the update with dpkg. While dpkg was upgrading, it printed an error message for every WiFi connection: „[Failed] Failed to migrate [I do not remember, something with /etc/netplan]” It took at least one and a half hour to find the solution on Ask Ubuntu. The problem was: /etc/resolv.conf became a broken link, along with systemd-resolve.service. I needed to remove both of them and write a new resolv.conf to fix the error. As the end of the beta will be after the 24.04 release, we want to get as close as possible to the current code level, knowing that current code will still certainly grow feature-wise once with the Beta user feedback.
