Same issue, Ubuntu 18.04.1, reinstalled about a week ago. Pressing the
lock shortcut "freezes" the screen - clicking it doesn't do anything,
but whatever I had open remains shown. Locking it "again" show to login
page, but the dock is visible and can be interacted with. Using 2
displays.

I started settings after installation and it worked. But when I clicked
on Users tab, it freezed. So I clicked wait twice and then force close.
Then I reinstalled and settings didn't work anymore.

I reinstalled gnome, disabled tweak extensions, removed .config and
.cache and .local from home dir. After that gnome settings started to
work again. From my testing there was some bug in .local settings as
this was that that finally helped me.

The only explanation for removing the menu item "File/Open Tab" is, that
maintainers of gnome-terminal do not use Gnome terminal themselves. Also
in 3.18.3 (Ubuntu 16.04) if I expand the terminal size to maximum
(double click on the menu bar) it would not return back to its previous
size when double clicked again.

After some update (unfortunately I'm not sure what) if I try to play a
videofile (e.g. mpv movie.mkv) I get this error:

libGL error: failed to open drm device: Permission denied

I think from this message is not very clear why is that.

I figured out I was not in "video" group: "id user_name"

I had to do this: "usermod -aG video user_name " and then restart X
(logout, login). After that it works again.

So I suspect there is some problem there. Why libGL cannot be used
without membership in video group or why a regular user is not in video
group.

Thank you for your replay.  After BIOS update:

Unfortunately no improvement, it doesn't work anyway. The only change
is, that mpv doesn't give "SIGABRT" but "Aborted".

After the recent kernel upgrade 2.4.0-23 the computer freezes (see the
screenshot) and I'm not able to login neither into a graphic mode nor
the text console.

When I try previous kernel 4.2.0-22 the result is the same even if it
worked before.

When I go to the recovery mode (Grub menu > Advanced options > Linux
4.2.0-23-generic (recovery mode)) and just select "Resume normal boot"
it boots as normal and I can login into KDE. But I guess it is in some
non accelerated graphics mode.

I have a similar issue after clean install of Kubuntu 15.10. No matter
if I use fglrx or fglrx-updates when trying to launching amdcccle I get
this: "There was a problem initilizing Catalyst Control Center Linux
edition". I used the Driver manager to install these drivers. I have a
HP ProBook 450 with a hybrid graphic. Now I cant switch to dedicated GA.
There were no such problems in previous 15.04.

  Cannot Run AMD Catalyst Control Center

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I upgraded from Xubunti 14.10 to 15.04.  After the upgrade, my system
  had fglrx and fglrx-core installed.  I had to manually install flgrx-
  andcccle.

  When I tried to run amdcccle from the terminal the cursor moved down
  one line and nothing else happened.  No error messages.

  I rebooted, and the problem was the same.  So I purged the fglrx
  packages, rebooted and installed frlrx-updates versions.

  Now, when I run pkexec amdcccle, I get an Initialization error that
  reads:

  There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux
  edition.  It could be caused by the following.

  No AMD graphics driver is installed or the AMD driver is not
  functioning properly.

  Please install the AMD driver appropriate for you AMD hardware, or
  configure using aticonfig.

  When I run sudo aticonfig --initial --adapter=all

  I get this error:

  Unable to open /etc/ati/control, please reinstall the driver.

Fixed by deleting the directory '/run/user/1000/pulse'. 
Then I had to kill vlc (VLC media player) process that was waiting endlessly 
saing Failed to create secure directory (/run/user/1000/pulse).
But I think after reboot it will be the same again.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Series, Kubuntu 13.04, 3.8.0-19-generic.

Updating drivers (apt-get install fglrx-updates) worked for me. The
watermark is gone.

Bug description:
  On the latest daily release of Raring, a watermark/overlay shows in
  the bottom-right corner of the screen when fglrx or fglrx-updates is
  installed. It reads Unsupported hardware and has the AMD logo above
  it on top of a semi-transparent black background.

  This watermark is essentially equivalent to the Testing use only
  that appears when the proprietary beta drivers from AMD's website are
  installed. Therefore, the same workaround applies:

  [Workaround] (USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!)
  Step 1) Create and save shell script with the following contents:
  #!/bin/sh
  DRIVER=/usr/lib/fglrx/xorg/modules/drivers/fglrx_drv.so
  for x in $(objdump -d $DRIVER|awk '/call//EnableLogo/{print

  the version of /etc/ati/control from the fglrx that shipped with
  Quantal.

  Step 1) Save a backup of the old control file, just in case -- sudo cp
  /etc/ati/control /etc/ati/control.watermark

  Step 2) Download the Quantal fglrx source package from
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/quantal/+source/fglrx-
  installer/2:9.000-0ubuntu3/+files/fglrx-installer_9.000.orig.tar.gz --
  you will NOT need to build or install it.

  Step 3) Open that tar file with Archive Manager. Find etc/ati/control

After some additional testing it seems that the tablet works in a random
manner (some reboots it does, most it doesn't but it doesn't seem to be
related to it being plugged in USB on boot).

When it works I get this xinput list result:

Bug description:
  After an upgrade from ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10, I was no more able to login with 
my usual account.
  Lightdm failed to load x session.
  After a long search, I understood that the problem was coming from ubuntu-2d 
xsession.
  My user account was configured to use unbuntu-2d when i was in ubuntu 12.04.
  But as this xsession has been removed in ubuntu 12.10, lightdm failed to load 
 it.

  I managed to fix my problem doing following steps :
   - edit my user file with gedit in this folder :
  /var/lib/AccountsService/users
   - replace XSession=ubuntu-2d by XSession=ubuntu
   - reboot ubuntu for the file modification to be taken in account.

  In my opinion, this fix should be applied automatically for all users using 
ubuntu-2d and upgrading their distribution.

The same problem when starting without  fullscreen mode and then trying
to switch to the fullscreen from the command line. Fullscreen from UI
works without problem.

(timeout by message bus)

  totem crashes with command line options

Status in “totem” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I am using ubuntu oneiric (11.10) with the latest updates (i.e. totem
  3.0.1-0ubuntu7.1)

  It seems totem crashes with almost any command line option.
  Unfortunately the --debug flag does not give much insight (still I am
  including it)
