[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1812132] Re: Does not return results with files that have hyphens in the filename

2019-01-18 Thread Alex Cabal
I *think* it's tracker because I'm using the `vanilla-gnome-desktop`
package which creates a plain Gnome Shell session, which I think uses
tracker in the Overview search (when pressing Super in Gnome Shell).

The search results I'm referring to appear within the "Files" header.

If I open a Nautilus window and try a recursive typeahead search, it is
able to find the files correctly.

$> dpkg -l | grep tracker
ii gir1.2-tracker-2.0:amd64 2.0.3-1ubuntu4

ii tracker-miner-fs 2.0.4-1

ii whoopsie 0.2.62

Here's another example you can try (though I don't understand how often
tracker updates its database and sometimes it takes a few restarts for
tracker to output results at all):

$> echo "test" > ~/foobar-foobaz
$> tracker search -f "foobar-"
   Files:
$> tracker search -f "foobar"
   Files:
 file:///home/alex/foobar-foobaz

Am I looking in the right place? Anything else I can provide?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1812132] Re: Does not return results with files that have hyphens in the filename

2019-01-16 Thread Alex Cabal
Note: This only occurs if the file is in a search location that was
manually added.

For example:

- Open the Settings app

- Select Search in the left hand sidebar

- Ensure Files is On

- Press the gear at the lower right of the dialog to open Search
Locations

- Select the Other tab

- Add a new search location, for example ~/projects/

This bug seems to only affect files in such locations. If, for example,
Home is On in the Places tab, files with dashes appear in search
results.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 965953] Re: Indicator menus are too short and scroll when opened from screen bottom

2013-12-03 Thread Alex Cabal
It shouldn't be hard to reproduce, I noticed it immediately after
upgrading. Just use the gnome classic session, add a bottom panel, and
set the indicator applet on the bottom panel in Precise. The WiFi
indicator is the easiest to reproduce the issue as it updates
frequently. Sound indicator is another example, when it changes tracks.
Try scrubbing left and right across the indicators. The patch above is
a sort of fix, but it adds a new bug where frequently instead of being
too small, the indicator menus become massive and reach nearly to the
top of the screen. I've been living with this bug for a long time as a
bottom panel user of Precise :/

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1044742] [NEW] Firefox titlebar disappears when restoring from minimized state

2012-09-01 Thread Alex Cabal
Public bug reported:

When minimizing Firefox and restoring it by clicking a link in
Thunderbird, the FIrefox window restores, but without the titlebar and
window controls. Note that this is NOT related to the F11 fullscreen
view.

Occurs in Ubuntu 12.04 64bit, Gnome Classic, AMD HD 4500 video card,
fglrx 12.6

To reproduce:
1. Open a Firefox window and minimize it.
2. Open Thunderbird and click on a link in an email.
3. Observe the bug: the Firefox window maximizes with a new tab for the opened
URL, but it's missing the titlebar and window controls.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 965953] Re: indicator applet with scroll arrows

2012-05-21 Thread Alex Cabal
Thanks Jiahua, I was able to test it out with your instructions. It
looks like your patch fixes the problem, thanks!

However there's a slight issue: with the patch applied, when you open an
indicator, the menu flickers near the top of the screen for a split
second before aligning back down to the bottom where it should be. (Or
perhaps the menu opens up to double-size and the instantly shrinks back
to normal size, it goes so fast it's hard to tell.)

This doesn't seem to affect usability, but it's very noticeable and
detracts a bit from the smoothness of the UI. Is there anything that
can be done for that?

2012-05-21 Thread Alex Cabal
After messing around with the patch some more, the issue I mentioned
above seems to be that the menu is being generated super-tall, then
shrunk back to size almost instantly. I somehow managed to get the
super-tall menu to stay open for both the Dropbox and Battery
indicators. Not as huge an issue as completely unusable indicators
(like before Jiahua's patch) but still a very noticeable UX issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 965953] Re: indicator applet with scroll arrows

2012-05-10 Thread Alex Cabal
This seems to have gotten worse on 12.04 using Gnome Classic. I have my
indicators on the bottom-right. Before, if the indicator menu had to
change size (for example a new wireless network was detected while the
indicator was open), it wouldn't resize right, but it would show scroll
arrows at the top/bottom. Clicking the arrows would force the indicator
menu to resize itself correctly.

However in 12.04 those arrows don't work any more. My Dropbox indicator
menu is now completely invisible because it didn't resize right and the
arrows don't work; I can't click on Banshee in the sound menu because it
resized with the volume on top but the Banshee controls below the panel.

Very annoying in 12.04, unusable in = 12.04

Title:
Radio stream sometimes crashes, always needs to be launched twice

Status in “banshee” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: banshee

This stream is an AAC stream of Absolute Radio in the UK: http
  ://aacplus-ar-48.as34763.net:80/

When attempting to first play the stream one of two things will happen
randomly:
   * After a few seconds, Banshee stops trying to play and returns to Idle.
   * Banshee crashes and exits.

Note that the stream never successfully starts playing at the first
  attempt.

If Banshee didn't crash then a second attempt to play the stream
  always seems to succeed.
