  1. too many red dots : rendering the svg:symbol where it should not render
  2. no symbol in red dot : this is because not inheriting the fill-rule from
group to inner element/group

Bug description:
  Hi,

Although Inkscape is a nice program, I recognize that it's becoming slower
and
slower each time a new version is released.

Also I have compiled inkscape from subversion (Revision: 22608) in a Ubuntu
8.10 box.
(Intel Core 2 duo 1.8 GHz and 2 GB of RAM)

In the build I have disabled the -g option in all the Makefiles, but
launching inkscape
takes more than 10 seconds!! And in its actions it demostrates that it has
become slower.

Is any way to improve the performance of Inkscape (for example, using a
separate thread to loading the
plugins, using a load of components by demand, using OpenGL+Shaders for
drawings,...)

I have some knowledge of optimization in C/C++ but I know next to nothing how
Inkscape has been
  programmed.

Thanks guys for this great program.

Bug description:

The tool controls bar for the Select tool contains a button group with
the label Affect:. This label is inappropriate for a couple of
  reasons:

  1. False implication that the buttons apply some sort of visual effect
(blur, noise etc). The buttons actually control the effects of
scale/move operations on borders, gradients and patterns.

  2. Grammatical inconsistency. Most (perhaps all?) other toolbar
labels are nouns for the related property (Width:, Force:, Angle
X etc). Affect: is a verb.

It would make sense to either remove the label or replace it with a
suitable noun for the property being adjusted (maybe something like
  Scale/move properties: but less verbose!)

When an output extension fails, an unnecessary empty file is created.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Open a blank new document.
  2. Use FileSave As, Gimp XCF output.
  3. Accept the extension's parameters.
  4. Since there's nothing to export, the extension fails and returns an error
message.
  5. An empty file is created in the location set in 2.

Also reproduced with SK1 export (when saving an empty document) and
  Compressed SVG+media (when debugging it...).

The standard method for entering Unicode symbols (such as the Indian
Rupee Sign) into Gtk+-based applications is the sequence:

ctrl-shift-u 2 0 b 9 enter

doing this in Inkscape results in a report that the character is not
printable and no character being inserted. However copying-and-
pasting ₹ directly allows it to be inserted.

Ideally Inkscape would not try to be too-clever-for-its-own-good by
artificially restricting the characters that can be entered with
  overriding the default Gtk+ methods.

Fonts initially indicated as 'not found on system'

Status in Inkscape: A Vector Drawing Tool:

Bug description:
  Summary:
Fonts cant be changed via the toolbar drop-down list and are marked as 'not
found on system'. Fonts can be changed via the Text and Font dialog from the
menu. After changing font once, fonts can then be selected also from the
drop-down list.

  Details:
I start Inkscape, select the Text tool and draw a boundary box. The Text
properties toolbar appears. In the Font list, the first font listed is
'Bitstream Vera Sans' followed by an exclamation mark icon with the mouse
hover-above description 'Font not found on system'. After writing some text, I
cant change its font using the drop-down font list in the toolbar. All fonts
are marked with the icon and the text 'Font not found on system'. I confirmed
that fonts are indeed installed on the system.

To change fonts of text I need to click on the text box and select
Text - Text and Font from the main menu. Selecting a new font and
clicking Apply will then change the font. After closing the Text and
Font window the fonts in the drop-down list in the toolbar are no
longer marked as 'not found' (as described above).

  Expected behavior:
It should be possible to change fonts directly from the drop-down list
immediately after starting Inkscape, without having to do it once via the Text
and Font dialog first.

  System:
  Inkscape 0.48.0 r9654
  Ubuntu Maverick Merkaat 10.10

sure that the inversion I am seeing is the same as these two bugs,
which seem a little confused. I am seeing inversion of graphics
  already in the pdf files.

  2. Even though I have requested text import as text it is imported as
graphics, I can find no way to edit the text.. The text is definitely
in the pdf as text - I can cut-and-paste it from Adobe. The graphics
for the text are not inverted, only the original. I have not found an

  HOW TO REPRODUCE

  1. In Inkscape create a figure colored Accent Orange, from the Ubuntu
colour palette.
  2. Compare colour with Ubuntu Orange in
http://design.ubuntu.com/brand/colour-palette.

  **
  EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR
  **

  - The colour to be the same.

  **
  REAL BEHAVIOUR
  **

  - The colour is different.
  - The colours listed in the palette from Inkscape have no relationship with
the ones in design.ubuntu.com.

  ***
  WORK-AROUND
  ***

  - To use the colours in http://design.ubuntu.com/brand/colour-palette
  instead.

  RELEVANT DETAILS

  - Orange colour is very similar, but not equal. So it's very probable someone
use the wrong colour in their designs for Ubuntu.
  - In fact, the logo of Ubuntu project in Launchpad is affected
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu).
  - A demonstrative image is attached to this bug.

I've been using Inkscape for work as my only vector editor for the past
year or so, and while it's extremely capable, there is one coding choice
which I find completely bewildering: Why is font size specified in pixels
instead of points? This seems to be used in both listboxes and the actual
raw SVG. For the longest time I could not figure out why my text always
looked so small. I don't think pixels are a useful measurement for text, as
points are the de facto standard.

Since, I believe, the Nineties, all graphic editing and viewing
software I have ever seen allows you to navigate horizontally and
vertically through the document by hitting the space bar and moving
the mouse, or by hitting the spacebar, clicking and dragging.

Inkscape lacks this essential feature and obliges you to move through
the document horizontally and vertically separately by using the
scrollbars, which is tremendously annoying. Or perhaps it has another
keyboard shortcut to allow you to easily move around the document
using the mouse, different from the universal convention that has been
omnipresent in every other graphic editing software in the last 20
  years or so.

Title:
New major upstream stable Inkscape release (0.91) available

Status in inkscape package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in inkscape package in Debian:
  Unknown

Bug description:
Inkscape community proudly announces the 0.91 release of Inkscape! Please
update Ubuntu 15.04 packages to the latest stable Inkscape version.
Packages for Uuntu 14.x, 12.04 and 15.04 are available at
ppa:inkscape.dev/stable - see
  https://launchpad.net/~inkscape.dev/+archive/ubuntu/stable

This release marks the culmination of a multi-year effort to switch to a new
internal graphics rendering engine, Cairo. This brings performance enhancements
and more accurate rendering of drawings.
A new Trace Pixel Art feature enables creation of vector art from bitmaps,
sprites, and icons. A new Symbols Library provides reusable graphics elements -
you can even read in Visio symbol libraries. New Snapping options and improved
Snap preferences make it easier to quickly place items in the alignments you
need. The tools for arranging objects offer several new ways to position the
elements of a drawing. Tons of other little improvements have been made across
all the other tools as well.
  Several new file formats are supported, including FXG, SIF and HTML5 export;
and VSD and CDR import. EMF/WMF are now readable and writable for all
platforms. And XCF, PDF, EPS, and PS+LaTeX support are improved.
Inkscape has a rich Extension ecosystem, which is well known for bringing
clever, cool, and innovative new ideas. Over a dozen new extensions are added
in this release, including an Isometric Grid Generator, a Bitmap Cropper, a
Text Extractor and a Text Merger, an HSL Adjuster, a Font Replacer, a Voronoï
Diagram Creator, and more.
The above barely scratches the surface of all the new stuff included in this
release. For the full story, including examples and screenshots, please see our
detailed Release Notes:
  http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Release_notes/0.91

This is an upstream PPA issue - basically, the inkscape-trunk-data

This is related to bug 1218350, however, adding a wrapper around
/usr/bin/gs to add -dUseCIEColor still generates the error.

  Following http://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=694066#c4 adding
-dColorConversionStrategy=/LeaveColorUnchanged instead fixes it but it
  produces some spurious output:

Nonetheless, the rendered formula seems correct.

This could be a bug in gs, in how pstoedit calls gs, or in how

2014-08-21 Thread Alex Valavanis

Title:
inkscape crashed with SIGSEGV in Avoid::VertInf::removeFromGraph()

Status in Inkscape: A Vector Drawing Tool:
  Fix Committed
Status in “inkscape” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
I was having huge difficulties to finish an image in which I was using
diagram connectors to draw arrows between circles (a graph, for those
  who know what it is).

At some point, I needed to draw the curved arrows in the image
attached, and every time I needed to move the drawing or do anything
with the arrows, like changing the markers' colors, these curved
arrows kept turning into straight ones again, over and over.

After a million times going like this, I asked inkscape to render a
latex formula for me and, when the formula was ready, the arrows
  simply disappeared!

This is everything that I remember happening before the crash.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 167262] Re: In the Text and Font dialog, Ctrl+Z (Undo) destroys text

Title:
In the Text and Font dialog, Ctrl+Z (Undo) destroys text

Status in Inkscape: A Vector Drawing Tool:
  Triaged
Status in “inkscape” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in “inkscape” package in Debian:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Problem:

When typing text directly into the Text and Font
dialog (Shift+Ctrl+T, Text tab), pressing the Ctrl+Z
key or Edit menu Undo, removes the text, with no
possiblity of recovery. The Redo action (Shift+Ctrl+Z)
does not recover the text. Even if Redo did recover
the text, it would be easy to lose the text if more
text were typed after the undo.

  Workaround:

Enter text into a separate text editing application,
then copy and paste the text in. This avoids
  accidental loss of text.

  Proposed Solutions:

Disable Undo while the Text and Font dialog (Text tab
) text entry dialog, has keyboard focus. Or, if Undo
is pressed, alert the user of the loss of data with a
  Yes/No dialog.

Bug description:
When exporting a svg file to eps, vertical text gets messed up.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. create a LibreOffice Draw document with vertical text (rotate it 90°)
  2. export drawing to svg
  3. $ inkscape -E drawing.eps drawing.svg

Title:
Inkscape freezes when pulling out retracted node handle

Status in Inkscape: A Vector Drawing Tool:
  Confirmed
Status in “inkscape” package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
Inkscape 0.48.1 r9760 on Xubuntu 11.04 64bit (standard version from
  the repositories)

By working through the Inkscape: Advanced tutorial I found the
  following issue:

When trying to pull out a retracted handle on a node in a bezier curve
the handle appears close to the node but Inkscape becomes
unresponsive, not reacting to any clicks or shortcuts. It still pops
up a dialog whether to save the current document when trying to close
the window, but the buttons in this dialog are also inactive. One has
to forcefully kill it from htop or the like.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) draw or select an arbitrary bezier curve
  2) retract the handles of a node by Ctrl+clicking on them
  3) try to pull the handles out again by Shift+dragging from the node

edit: The system information below is for my 32bit system which shows the
same behavior as the 64bit one from which I reported this bug.

Status in Inkscape: A Vector Drawing Tool:

Status in “inkscape” package in Ubuntu:

Status in “inkscape” package in Debian:
  Confirmed
Status in Gentoo Linux:
  Unknown

Bug description:
UPDATE: After further investigation it turned out to be a problem related to
the copy operation, in combination with a totally unrelated running Java
program (FreeRapid).
Reading some followups and other bug reports, it seems to be caused by the
new clipboard management system (introduced as a fix for the bug #170185), as
reported in bug #421597

So far these applications are known to randomly trigger an input/output
extension (on linux):
  - FreeRapid Downloader
  - jDownloader
  - xfce4-clipman-plugin 1.1.3
  - Netbeans
  - xfce4-settings-helper (Xfce 4.8)

  -

  The original report was this:
I'm getting this error when I try to edit a text object created previously
with a font that's not available in this system.
It looks like Inkscape has problems to resolve the font substitution and
displays the error message in a popup window that keeps appearing again and
again, leaving no other remedy than closing inkscape and reopening it.

  The error message is attached.

I was having huge difficulties to finish an image in which I was using

At some point, I needed to draw the curved arrows in the image

After a million times going like this, I asked inkscape to render a

  simply disappeared!

  Window Manger: WindowMaker

  Launch inkscape
  Click Help menu
select FAQ (or Ask a question, or Keys and Mouse Reference)

Inkscape pops up a window stating:

Inkscape has received additional data from the script executed.
The script did not return an error, but this may indicate the results
  will not be as expected.

The text field in the window states:

  (process:3296): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion
  'sys_page_size == 0' failed

The help information does actually appear in my browser (Firefox), but
since my browser window was off in a different workspace, I didn't
  notice it right away.

  doesn't affect the Ctrl+Z/Ctrl+Y undo/redo combination. Whether I am
in Croatian or US - the same physical keys perform the undo action
(the 'Croatian' ones (which is my primary layout) - the key between
'u' and 't' does undo). It doesn't manifest in the rest of Inkscape,

Status in “inkscape” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
at the moment when you creeate an objext with the height 9, the object it in
the source
height 8.99. thats bad, because i need it for a project in Qt and the
Qt renderer is very hard with something like this and the result is that thers
a big space between this object an the next.
one way is to look the sources and fix problems like this.

a better way would be an option in inkscape itself. that let us choose
that only full pixels can used for a end and start point. so it will
be impossible to set something to 0.5pixels and in the source of the
svg file it should be too on 1 or 0.

i hope you understand. that would make the work much simpler ind the
  sources much cleaner.

another option would be that wen i set something to the pixel9,
inkscape should write that 9 in the file, not 8.

Bug description:
ubuntu condensed font with the bold weight is not rendered properly
inside inkscape, as can be seen from the attachments. in fact,
inkscape shows the normal weight font instead. the wrong font also
appears when exported to bitmap or when converted to paths. on the
other hand, save as pdf produces a correct font, and viewing the
inkscape svg file with, say, geeque, also shows the correct font.

this might be relevant to other fonts also, but i did not check.

  fix flowed text in svg

Status in Inkscape: A Vector Drawing Tool:
  New
Status in “inkscape” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I ran into the problem described at
  http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ#What_about_flowed_text.3F

If however you really need flowed text, you will have to convert it
to regular (non-flowed) text by the Convert to text command in the
Text menu. THIS COMMAND FULLY PRESERVES THE APPEARANCE AND FORMATTED
OF YOUR FLOWED TEXT but makes it non-flowed and SVG 1.1-compliant.
  (emphasys added)

The part in uppercase is bullshit. If you chose the text and do
convert to text, the text completely changes its positioning. For
example, I have a text centered to a certain area, and it moves to the
left to an apparently random position.

Also, if you have decided to keep the flowed text feature, it makes NO
SENSE to keep it in its current broken status which corresponds to an
obsolete version of the specs until the SVG 1.2 draft becomes final.
You should fix the implementation to conform to the current status of
  the standard.

Fonts dialog Box-UI (UI=User interface) behave in a strange way.
  - Very buggy when [ALT+X] to pick the desired font. Take to much time to open
the dialog and when open it is very big, or just crash.
  - Oversize the the dialog window when [SHIFT+CTRL+T], the dialog box is to
big, and you can't do nothing.

  saves ghost empty text boxes

Status in Inkscape: A Vector Drawing Tool:

Status in “inkscape” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:

  - select the text tool
  - draw the area where you want to write the text
  - Whops, that was not exactly the area I want it, let's redraw it from scratch
  - One more time
  - save into plain SVG (I guess Inkscape SVG would do as well)

Expected result: the empty textboxes should be completely forgotten
and deleted; OR they should be visible and accessible, so that you
know they are there and you can move, modify, or remove them

Observed: everything looks like those text boxes you accidentally drew
and left empty don't exist. You can't see them, you can't select them,
you can't reuse them and write into them, or delete them. YET they are
  saved into the SVG file.

You get garbage empty useless invisible text areas that you can't even
  delete.
