I've encountered the same problem. I received message for 'sgml-base' and 'linux-image-5.0.0-13-generic': ""Could not install 'sgml-base' The upgrade will continue but the 'sgml-base' package may not be in a working state. Please consider submitting a bug report about it. triggers looping, abandoned" Followed by the same message for 'linux-image-5.0.0-13-generic'. When the upgrade from 18.10 to 19.04 finished it showed: "Could not install the upgrades. The upgrade has aborted. Your system could be in unstable state. It won't work, and there is no way to restore, except opening a new window. Hi, I'm still encountering this problem and it's more than just the mouse freezing. There is lots of unusual beahviour affecting my usb devices. The mouse misbehaving is usually the first symptom. Most times I have to reboot. It has made my Compaq desktop almost useless on some days. I've resorted to adding a second mouse to take over but that just delays the inevitable reboot. Is it possible for me to wind back the usb drivers to 11.10 as that's the only Ubuntu release in the last few years that hasn't caused the problem. Public bug reported: I encountered this problem in Ubuntu 11.04, 11.10, 12.04 and now 13.04. I never encountered it with 12.10 so I'm frustrated/disappointed that it's reappeared in 13.04. The mouse will randomly freeze and the only solution is to reboot. Usually I can open a terminal window (Ctrl-Alt-T) to try and gather information but occassionally I will encounter a complete system freeze. My Xorg log records no events and dmesg only shows a single change from boot (usb 2-1: USB disconnect, device number 2). I've attached: system and version details Xorg.o.log at boot and as there's no difference at error I haven't attached fiff files Dmesg at boot and after error and the diff output.
