[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1462229] [NEW] Sound is muted when plugging in a headphone although volume is up

2015-06-05 Thread Bart de Koning
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 15.04
Release:15.04

When a headphone is plugged in, sound is muted altough the headphone volume is
still up.
When I open alsamixer I can regain sound on my headphone by unmuting the
speaker channel and increasing the volume on the volume channel. However each
time that I unplug my headphone I need to redo this.
So it looks like, in contradiction to how the software is programmed and users
understand, the headphone and speaker channels work in serial for headphone
output instead of parallel.
Because this used to work for years (at least since Ubuntu 12.04, I used them
all), this bug is introduced in the lastest release (15.04).
I also filed this bug in the alsamixer package, but afterwards I realised that
I probably have filed it at the wrong spot.

Kind regards,
Bart

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1456919] [NEW] no sound on headphone after plugging it in

2015-05-20 Thread Bart de Koning
Public bug reported:

After connecting a headphone, the speaker channel is set to zero, which sounds
like a logical thing to do, however it dimishes sound on the headphone channel
as well. As a workaround I currently start alsamixer from a terminal, switch on
the speaker channel (navigate to the speaker channel and hit "m") and increase
the volume for this channel. Then still no sound is emitted through the
speakers (as you would expect), but it enabled sound from the headphones.
It looks like that the channels are programmed in serial for headphone usage,
instead of parallel like the controlling software (and users like me) expect
it. In the former versions of Ubuntu this had always worked like a charm, so it
appears to be a bug that is introduced recently.

Kind regards, Bart

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 875632] Re: When http_proxy is unreachable, banshee spins 200% cpu (and may lock entire system if unlucky, requiring unclean reboot)

2011-11-05 Thread Bart de Koning
I just updated my system and it is not fixed yet, or released yet. But I found
some more information that might give some more clues on what actually happens.
Because it is not just people that are disconnected from the internet, it
affects also people that did not sign up for the ubuntu one service as well,
whether they are connected to the internet or not.
If I turn off the ubuntu one store, Banshee works fine, but as soon as I hit
the ubuntu store option it starts spinning at 341% (!) CPU (on a quadcore, most
probably it just starts using all available processor power), and Banshee is
completely stuck. (I once tried to leave it for a while, but that just drained
my battery)
This is the debug output that immediately arises when I hit the option. It
searches for a folder that does not exist on my computer. Despite the warnings
that occur, it apparently continues nevertheless, trying to resolve a NULL
somewhere
