[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1825741]

2019-11-20 Thread Bernard Decock
In my case I'm using Linux Mint 19.2 Cinnamon. I have only this problem
as soon as I enable the extension LanguageTool and try to insert a
formula into writer. If I disable LanguageTool, then the problem is
gone.

I filed the bug as
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128491 which might
be a duplicate of this bug. Today I managed to duplicate the menu as
much as I wanted (see attachment)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 877279] Re: EOG - Image viewer hangs system when opening large image file

2015-08-17 Thread Bernard Decock
EOG 3.10.2 works fine on a computer with sufficient ram. However, if you
run this program on an older computer, eg. with only 512 MB of ram,
displaying large images (eg. 4000 * 6000, a common size of a modern
camera), will cause the computer to hang. The same applies to gThumb. In
order to view such images, one can use Shotwell. I reverted to a more
lightweight desktop, eg. Xfce, and Ristretto is displaying large
images without any issues.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1390875] [NEW] Nautilus inconsistent usb-stick-write-protect handling

2014-11-09 Thread Bernard Decock
Public bug reported:

Nautilus handles a hardware write-protected usb-stick wrong after
restarting the computer.

1. Insert only one (this is important) usb-stick which is hardware
write-protected.
2. Try to copy a file to the usb-stick (no success = ok)
3. Set the write-protect off = One can't copy a file (error-message : usb is
write-protected) = Not ok
4. Remove the usb-stick and plug the stick back in = One can't still copy a
file, write-protected-error-message ??
5. Remove usb-stick and plug another one in = one gets the same error-message
(although other usb-stick)
6. One has to log-out/log-in before the stick can be used

If you use at first a non-write-protected stick and then afterwards a
write-protected stick, then everything behaves normal.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1366152] Re: System crash when Vasco-card-reader is plugged in at powerup

2014-09-14 Thread Bernard Decock
It looks that the program is crashing somewhere on a process-fork

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

#2 0xb7ec24ce in clone () at ../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/i386/clone.S:129

I added a debug-log, with a list of breakpoints. The program is receiving the
exception while I'm stepping through
the code. So I needed more breakpoints in order to capture the problem. Can you
please give a suggestion.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1366152] Re: System crash when Vasco-card-reader is plugged in at powerup

2014-09-08 Thread Bernard Decock
I'm able to build these packages (./configure, make and sudo make
install - after installing the missing packages). I know how to debug
C/C++-programs, but I have never done this for such a type of
application. If you can help me with some commands in order to start the
debugging of the build software, I'll find my way in finding the
problem. I see that some extra files have been installed in /usr/local,
so It looks that everything is ready to analyse the problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1366152] Re: System crash when Vasco-card-reader is plugged in at powerup

2014-09-06 Thread Bernard Decock
Hi,

I fear that that the backtrace will be rather disappointing, as the gdb
doesn't find any symbols for the pcscd-binary. Now the odd thing is, if
you start the gdb if you then remove the card-reader for the first time,
it doesn't crash. It is only the second time when the read is removed
that the application crashes. As there are no symbols, you get only the
addresses in the backtrace. If the gdb starts its notifies me that
already another instance of pcscd is running.

If you look at the green led of the reader, it goes out just before
ubuntu-login-screen pops up. If you remove the reader and plug the
reader back in, the green led goes on for a second or two and then goes
back out.

Title:
Google Street View not working properly on Firefox 29

Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Got to the new Google Maps, https://www.google.com/maps/preview
Click on the Pegman near the bottom right corner
Click on any blue street to enter the new Google Street View.
  Google Street View works properly.
Now, click somewhere on the Google Street View screen to move forward along a
street.
Almost always, the view becomes black, while the rest of the screen (road
indication on top left, photos on bottom, small map on the bottom left) are OK.
Exiting Street View with the left arrow next to the road indication on top
left, does not help, the map view is also black. The side elements (search box
etc.) work.
Reloading the page restores the situation.

Bug description:
I have a Canon Powershot A3200 camera. It works perfectly on 12.04,
pops right up when I plug it in. However on 14.04 nothing happens.

lsusb outputs shows that the camera is detected, with the right model.

  SRU INFORMATION:

IMPACT: All PtP cameras which don't have an explicit vendor/model match in
/lib/udev/hwdb.d/20-libgphoto2-6.hwdb stop working in gvfs/shotwell/etc. This
is a regression since Saucy.

FIX: Bring back the udev rule to tag generic PtP devices that we had had for
many releases. This will tag the udev_device with the ID_GPHOTO2 property which
is where gvfs and friends are looking (not on the usb_interface child).
  Patch:
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/177343655/libgphoto2_2.5.4-1ubuntu1_2.5.4-1ubuntu2.diff.gz

REGRESSION POTENTIAL: Very low. Adding tags to the wrong device might
confuse gvfs/shotwell and friends, but this rule had been in
production for many years. Broken udev rules are harmless except for
error spew in syslog, and this doesn't interfere with the hwdb
database as it only matches on usb_devices, not on usb_interfaces.

2014-04-20 Thread Bernard Decock
Also a problem with Canon Powershot SX20 IS (Ubuntu 14.04 and Xubuntu
14.04).

I'm getting an error : Could not claim USB Device (-53).

Indeed, as suggested by Thomas Rosted, gphoto2 --get-all-files
downsloads all the images. (But this is not a workable option for photo-
management)

2014-03-28 Thread Bernard Decock
Info about latest daily build : Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch)
uname -a
Linux xubuntu 3.13.0-19-generic #40-Ubuntu SMP Mon Mar 24 02:37:00 UTC 2014

After added the preferred layout and deleting the default one :
   1. Restart IBus 1.5.5 = 3 keyboard-layouts are shown, the deleted one's on
top, the
preferred one on the bottom = preferred layout is not effective
   2. Select preferred layout (with the mouse) in the drop-down-box and
move the preferred one to the top = preferred layout becomes effective

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1174020] Re: Segfault when plugging in digital camera

2013-07-01 Thread Bernard Decock
As a matter of fact, this error-message seems to prevent that Shotwell
get launched at plugging the camera. If you start Shotwell manually,
then you can work with the camera as usual.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1069340] [NEW] Indicator-weather doesn't fetch the weather-data

2012-10-21 Thread Bernard Decock
Public bug reported:

Indicator-weather doesn't fetch the weather-data. If a location was

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 258466] Re: Unable to configure Administration menu

  Unable to configure Administration menu

Status in Alacarte Menu Editor:
  New
Status in “alacarte” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
In Ubuntu 8.04.1, the Administration menu under System is not
configurable. I am attempting this process:

  1. Right click Applications on the top-left of the screen, next to the Ubuntu
logo
  2. Choose Edit Menus
  3. Navigate to System - Administration
  4. Check/Uncheck anything

What happens is, a moment (sometimes as long as a second) after I
check/uncheck something on this list, it reverts itself. This for
instance means I have to manually run gksu /usr/sbin/gdmsetup should
I want to enable remote logins, or other such tweaks.

Screenshot of the dialog in question is attached. I do not know what
package this would be considered, but I don't think this is the fault
of the menu editor itself, rather something wrong with the files it is
  attempting to alter.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 602862] Re: Blank CD-R disc (700 Mb) has no free space

2012-07-01 Thread Bernard Decock
Still a problem with Xubuntu12.04: Xfburn as well as Brasero don't
recognize en empty cd. The only program that keeps working is K3b =
can't be kernel-problem?

Blank CD-R disc (700 Mb) has no free space

Status in The Linux Kernel:
  Confirmed
Status in “brasero” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:

  When I insert a blank CD-R (1X-52X) 700Mb, 80 min, Ubuntu reports that
there is no space left on the disc???

After installing Ubuntu 10.4 some weeks ago I was able to burn discs with
brasero. Today brasero reports that there is no
space left on a blanc disc.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 857326] Re: Selecting another preferred language in Lubuntu is confusing

2011-09-29 Thread Bernard Decock
Wait now... I take it that it _looks like_ Chinese is installed (in
language-selector's Language tab), while it's actually _not_
installed as shown in LanguageSelectorLanguagesInstalled.jpg. Is that
what you mean?

Right!

I upgraded Lubuntu and now language-selector version 0.54 is installed. =
chinese and deutch are no longer seen in the language-tabs. It was rather weird
to see that dutch was greyed out, although all dialogs were in the duct
language. For
this reason it moved the 'dutch'-tab to the top.

After that I wanted to set my preferred language to English. After selecting
Apply system-wide and logging out and logging back in, all the dialogs were
still in dutch, although english was on top and dutch was greyed out. After
reboot, all the
dialogs were in english (as I wanted it to be). The same procedure is required
to set the language back to dutch. So one need to reboot in stead of
logging_off/in.

Hmm.. Are you really sure it's a bug #859961 type of crash? I ask
because that bug only appears in v. 0.53.

Yes, I update this Lubuntu-system daily. Initially I was able to move the
language-tabs up/down. Then some days ago,
this type of crash happened as soon as the mouse was hovered over the dialog.
Today (version 0.54) everthing
seems to work well.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 857326] Re: Selecting another preferred language in Lubuntu is confusing

2011-09-28 Thread Bernard Decock
Gunnar, thank you very much for your response.

First of all, I can see that chinese is installed in Lubuntu as well as in
Linux Mint Katya (See screendumps). Notice that my
preferred language = ducth (nederlands) and this language is active, but is
greyed out?

When I start the language-selector after reboot, I get a crash (bug
859961).

ll /usr/share/locale-langpack reveals that nor deutsch nor chinese
is installed.

After regenerating the locales, both deutsch and chineses are still in the
selector (dutch is still greyed out, although it is
my preferred language. I can't select it neither ... dialog doesn't respond to
the selection (due to the 859961 bug?)

After logging off, the preferred laguage wansn't changed. One has to
reboot the system before it's getting changed

No, that's a misconception. If you change the user language from Dutch
to English and log out, you end up at the login screen. If you log in
again instantly, you should see English as the display language.

Actually I switched the preferred language, logged off and logged back in.
Language wasn't changed. Only after reboot did the changes take place (can't
test this now, because the language-selector-dialog doesn't react on a
selection).
When I changed the language, I pressed apply systemwide-button. (Maybe this
option requires a reboot?)

Title:
Selecting another preferred language in Lubuntu is confusing

Status in “language-selector” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
The menu for selecting another preferred language seems to be
  confusing or is buggy.

  1. When I set English as the preferred language after I installed Lubuntu
with preferred language = dutch,
the dutch gets grayed out in the menu?? (Although it is still installed).
After logging off, the preferred
laguage wansn't changed. One has to reboot the system before it's getting
changed

  2. The menu shows uninstalled languages (such as chinese? and
  deutsch??)

  3. When Dutch is selected back as the preferred language, then both Dutch and
English are displayed in black (which
  is ok)

The language selected is grayed out after updating the latest packages.
Clicking on the language wanted generates this bug.
