Repositories, among other places), there is a Livepatch tab. This tab
says "To use Livepatch, you need to sign in" and provides a "Sign
  In..." button.

This button launches an empty version of gnome-control-center with no
  icons in it.

If one is technically adept, it is possible to do what (I think) that
button is trying to do by launching g-c-c directly in a terminal and
  overriding the desktop, thus:

  env XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME gnome-control-center online-accounts

This online accounts window permits attempting to add an Ubuntu One
account. However, when one tries, a window pops up with a place to add
one's Ubuntu One username and password, but the window has no Submit
button; there is no way to actually initiate sign in.

Title:
  Removing libpango1.0-0 broke Minecraft Launcher

Status in pango1.0 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
I just updated my machine, and when I did libpango1.0-0 was removed.
This removed minecraft-launcher - the (very) popular launcher for
  Minecraft Java edition.

I have reported this upstream, in case they can update their package
  https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCL-13512

I am filing this bug so we can track it internally. I personally think
this shouldn't have been done this late in the cycle, but there may
well have been good reasons for it.

As a result of the change though, it's now not possible to install
  Minecraft on Ubuntu 20.04.

  $ sudo apt install ./Minecraft\(1\).deb
  Reading package lists... Done
  Building dependency tree
  Reading state information... Done
Note, selecting 'minecraft-launcher' instead of './Minecraft(1).deb'
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies.
   minecraft-launcher : Depends: libpango1.0-0 (>= 1.14.0) but it is not
installable
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

Status in pango1.0 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Upon update on 30 March 2020 libpango1.0-0 was removed from the
  system.

Package libpango1.0-0 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
libpangox-1.0-0

However applications such as balena-etcher require libpango1.0-0

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1867639] [NEW] fprintd failed to activate service 'net.reactivated.Fprint'

2020-03-16 Thread Bill (franksmcb)
Public bug reported:

Updated Ubuntu MATE 20.04 on 20200315

Upon boot the option to use fingerprint login was not present. Long
delay in being able to input password.

When trying to run sudo the option to use fingerprint is not shown,
there is a long delay before it is possible to entry password.

When running any of the fprint commands; fprint-enroll fprint-list,
etc... there is a long delay and the following error is show:

"Failed to activate service 'net.reactivated.Fprint': timed out
(service_start_timeout=25000ms)"

To remove the long delay it was necessary to uncheck fingerprint
authentication in pam-auth-update

I can replicate this is Ubuntu 20.04 as well.

Prior to this series of updates, everything worked correctly.

2020-03-05 Thread Bill (franksmcb)
This continues to be an issue with Virt-Manager/QEMU with the 20200306
ISO of Ubuntu MATE and the 20200305 ISO of Ubuntu Budgie.

With VirtualBox 6.1.4 the following results occur:
1. Using VMSVGA there is no crash
2. Using VBoxSVGA the crash occurs.

This does occur with 20200216 ISO with Ubuntu MATE using Virt-
manager/QEMU, however this issue does not occur using VirtualBox.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1861191] Re: System hangs on graphical boot after kernel and nVidia upgrade

2020-01-28 Thread Bill (franksmcb)
nVidia driver 340.107 is available, however switching to that in
Software & Updates has resulted in some issues.

After Apply Changes, I am kicked to the Nouveau driver.

And I get an ErrorBrokenCount > 0

Trying to resolve with sudo apt --fix-broken install as recommended by
apt gives me:

Title:
System hangs on graphical boot after kernel and nVidia upgrade

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
System is Ubuntu MATE 18.04.3 T430 with nVidia

On 27 Jan 2019 nvidia drivers were updated to 390.116 via apt upgrades with
no issues.
On 28 Jan 2919 kernel was updated to 5.3.0-28.30-18 via apt upgrades with no
issues.
  System was rebooted today.

  Expected outcome:
  System reboots into desktop login

  Actual outcome:
System gets to grub menu then hangs on black screen. TTYs are not responsive.

This is reproducible and consistent. System will return to black
  screen and hung state.

  Workaround:
Editing Grub and adding nouveau.modset=0 allows system to boot to GUI login.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1861191] [NEW] System hangs on graphical boot after kernel and nVidia upgrade

2020-01-28 Thread Bill (franksmcb)
Public bug reported:

System is Ubuntu MATE 18.04.3 T430 with nVidia

On 27 Jan 2019 nvidia drivers were updated to 390.116 via apt upgrades with no
issues.

System will return to black screen
and hung state.

Workaround:
Editing Grub and adding nouveau.modset=0 allows system to boot to GUI login.
