[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1011564] [NEW] the document contains more rows than supported in the selected format.

2012-06-11 Thread Chris B
Public bug reported:

Obtained result:

When saving a Calc spreadsheet in Excel format, the message

Warning saving the document xxx:
the document contains more rows than supported in the selected format.
Additional rows were not saved

appears.

However, the document only has 1100-or-so rows.

Expected result: no error message

- A similar bug has been reported upstream
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50471 but not actioned.
- There is an older bug https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=106083
reported against Openoffice.org which states this issue is caused by sheets
that have undefined Print Ranges, which are not truncated properly by the Excel
export filter.
- I confirmed that the error message does not show if the print ranges are
manually sized to the area of active cells.
- It appears that the issue returned in 3.5.3 having previously been fixed.

Can this bug be reported upstream by Ubuntu, as this report may carry
more weight than the single report on the freedesktop.org site?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1011564] Re: [upstream] the document contains more rows than supported in the selected format.

2012-06-11 Thread Chris B
On further experimentation I found that restricting the print area does
NOT remove the error message.

However, in the document used for testing, a template file prepared as
follows gives the error, tested with Libreoffice 3.5.4_2 from PPA and
3.5.3:

- new document
- fill column A with data using fill/increment for a hundred or so rows.
- Select column header and give all cells borders (which extend the to the rows
limit), or perform other formatting to the entire column, such as background
fill
- save as .xls format

Result: unsupported rows

If the cell formatting is restricted to the active area, the error
message does not show.

It appears that the range of formatted cells is not truncated by the
Excel export filter, giving rise to an error for the formatting over 64k
rows.

Unfortunately this technique of cell formatting is in common use by
spreadsheet users to avoid selecting a specific area in their document.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 926940] Re: Visio files not associated with LibreOffice Draw

2012-04-10 Thread Chris B
The first time a user unaware of the ability of Libreoffice to open .vsd
files tries to double-click on the .vsd file, a Nautilus dialog
'searching for application to open file' appears, and concludes with
'Visio document is not supported'.

However, if user forces opening with Libreoffice (in my case Writer,
first of all) then an association to .vsd is created to Writer (but the
file is opened directly in Draw). Files can then be double-clicked and
opened correctly in LO Draw.

Further attempts to open with other application (right-click, open with
other application, 'find applications online' results in the same
message 'Visio Document is not supported'.

If 'cancel' is then clicked (the only option) then a dialog
'Failed to look for applications online'
GDBus.Error:org.Packagekit.Modify.Cancelled:
is displayed.

Well worth fixing this as the ability to reliably open Visio documents
removes a major blocker for business users migrating from Windows to
Ubuntu/Libreoffice/Linux

Further, .vss files do not seem to be supported by Libreoffice. Some
business documents seem to be distributed as 'Visio Stencils' so if
support can be added by changing MIME type assignments this would be
beneficial

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 946531] Re: Rhythmbox stops after every internet radio track on 'Absolute Classic Rock' (first in supplied list)

2012-03-30 Thread Chris B
Attached is rhythmbox log for the duration of the track change.

What the user sees:

Track plays normally: 'Highway Star'
Track ends- there is a 1 second break in stream, then a new notification for
the 'commercial break' 'soon - 3281' is shown, and the break starts to play.
After about 10 seconds, the commercial stops playing.
Stop/start is necessary to resume playback. However, the log continues as if
the stream is actually playing, when it is not.

2012-03-09 Thread Chris B
I still get a Segmentation Fault when running gnome-language-selector on an
AC100 armhf, with updates applied as of 8 March 2012.
Remove/reinstall of language-selector-gnome does not fix the issue, and also
pulls in several large packages of Thai, Khmer, Lao and Korean fonts that
perhaps should not be part of the default install?

This may not be a Gstreamer issue as the station plays correctly with
  other Gstreamer-based players (e.g. Radiotray)

While this may be caused by a peculiarity of the stations' streaming
software it would be an issue worth investigating as the first station
in the configured list is likely to be the first one users try.
