[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2004063] Re: Mouse and shell become laggy after some time and progressively gets worse

2023-02-16 Thread Curt Meyers
I might have to close this. After experiencing it over a few weeks I
opened the task mainly because I saw a few other bug reports that seemed
similar and it was super annoying.

However since my last reply on 2/6 there was a Chrome update that forced
a browser restart and since that time the symptom has not come back. I
can't say that the Chrome update solved the problem however it might
have.

2023-02-06 Thread Curt Meyers
I use a thinkpad keyboard that has the little red pointer stick in the
middle. It is USB and shows the same issue.

When the mouse gets laggy the Alt-Tab switcher also will not come up or
takes a while, depending on the circumstances.

2023-02-06 Thread Curt Meyers
Yeah I noticed the extensions are still loaded so I opened the extension
menu and switched off all extensions globally. I have thought about
using my computer without Chrome but I don't have much to do on the
machine without a browser. Perhaps I could use Firefox temporarily to
see if the problem still persists.

I will continue to try different experiments.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2004063] Re: mouse pointer becomes laggy after some time and progressively gets worse

2023-01-30 Thread Curt Meyers
Here are more details:

For gnome shell extensions, I only have 1, launch-new-instance and I
will remove it but doubt it is the cause of this problem but I can live
without it for a while.

As for recovering, I should mention that the system does recover on it's
own. The laggy system can last from seconds to perhaps 60 seconds. I
have been monitoring for kernel messages and watching htop and have not
seen any load increase or any process come to the top for CPU usage.
Perhaps there is some IO or interrupt storm that I should look for.

My system has 6 cores and the CPU usage is low even during these events.

It happens even without static linking.

Specifying -L explicitely does not help either. However setting
the MONO_PATH env-variable to corrrectly specify all necessary paths,
*does* help. So it looks like just mkbudles search path is somehow
  broken.

  BTW:
On an older machine, using an earlier mono (3.0.6+dfsg-1~exp1~pre) this
worked fine.
Also, using a self-built mono-3.4.0 on a different machine (Fedora) this
works fine as well.

   -Fritz

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 985028] Re: nm-applet stops displaying VPN connections

2013-01-13 Thread Curt Corum
Also now in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx

I just started experiencing as well after a system update. 0.8-0ubuntu3.1
Downgrading to 0.8-0ubuntu3 does not fix, so is not just nm-applet's fault but
some sort of interaction...

kill -1 `pidof nm-applet`
nm-applet &

does work.

Title:
  nm-applet stops displaying VPN connections

Status in “network-manager-applet” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
At first boot, nm-applet shows my (openvpn) VPN connections just fine.
After some number of hours of running, typically after suspending and
resuming, the VPN Connections submenu appears empty. There is still a
submenu, but it's only a few pixels tall, as if it's not populated
with anything. This is a regression from 11.10.

Note that I can still initiate the vpn connection from nmcli without
any trouble, so I'm sure this is nm-applet related.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity

2011-12-23 Thread Curt
Notice most comments are about Natty however I experience the same
problem in Lynx especially if I select F-Spot pictures or just Pictures
as the screen saver. I've run Hypertorus for hours without a lock up.
When it locks I have to shut down to clear. Tried backing up two or
three kernels to no effect.
