[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics

2016-06-16 Thread Dietmar May
I'm running Ubuntu Gnome 16.04, with gdm3. I do not have light-locker or
xscreensaver installed.

This happens almost every time that I fast switch to a different user.
Pushing the mouse to the upper left corner (which shows the Activities
Overview) and pressing Ctrl makes the cursor show up - every time.
Pressing Super (which shows the Activities Overview) and nudging the
mouse makes the cursor show up - every time. Nudging the mouse and then
pressing Super makes the cursor show up.

This combination - in just about any order - seems to reliably make the mouse
reappear:
 * Move the mouse
 * Press a key
 * Show the activities overview

Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Cursor is visible at unlock screen either after returning from suspend
  or just locking.

After unlocking screen cursor is invisible.

Changing to vt1 then back to vt7 (ctrl+alt+f1 then ctrl+alt+f7) cursor
  returns

no matter if you suspend or sleep, to swap or disk when you return
from it, the mouse cursor is missing.you can still move the mouse
and you can see (because it highlights the window) as you move it
around. But the cursor is not displayed on the screen.

i am using a lenovo W540 laptop. I downloaded the latest beta on
  april 8 2016.

this is xubuntu using the xfce window manager.

the cursor does return if i log off and log back in, but that actually
defeats the purpose of going to sleep.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1389159] Re: Clicking on search results doesn't take you to the corresponding page

2014-12-17 Thread Dietmar Winkler
How can this be invalid?

Title:
Clicking on search results doesn't take you to the corresponding page

Status in Evince document viewer:
  Invalid
Status in evince package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
When searching inside a PDF document in Evince, a side panel opens
with the results found (updated live while typing the search string).
Each search result item shows a bit of text and the page number.

When clicking a search result, Evince should take you to the
corresponding page. Instead, Evince does nothing, so you have to go to
  that page manually.

It used to be the case that the current page also jumped to the first
search result (if the current page does not have any), but not
anymore. I guess these two bugs are related.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1) Open PDF document with Evince
  2) Click on search button (or press Ctrl+F)
  3) Type some text expected to be found in the document
  4) Click on one of the search result items on the side panel

  Expected result:

  5) Evince shows the page in which the result is found

  Actual result:

  5) Evince does not change the page that is currently showing.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1136793] Re: GLX extension not found after update

2013-03-02 Thread Dietmar Winkler
The same here. After upgrade I can not run Unity any longer. Even the
fallback via llvm does only partly work since the menues (dash?) are not
loaded. So basically it's desktop background without any window manager.
I had to fall back to XFCE in order to get this working.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1136793] Re: GLX extension not found after update

2013-03-02 Thread Dietmar Winkler
Christopher,

thanks removing all nvidia related packages that had no other
dependencies attached helped. So also in my case the Virtual Box package
update seemed to have caused the damage. Though I didn't need to remove
the Virtual Box package.

Thanks again for finding out,
Dietmar

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 992232] Re: [needs-packaging] libreoffice-report-builder

2013-02-07 Thread Dietmar Poddey
The best way for the moment:

- deinstall LibreOffice as installed from the system
- download the original three packages (mainprogramm, desktop,
translation)from
   libreoffice.org
- install all modules with dpkg -i *.deb

Am 06.02.2013 15:22, schrieb Eglė:
Why libreoffice-report-builder package isn't included in the latest
 LibreOffice 3.6 packages repository
 (https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/libreoffice-3-6 )?
I've added this repository with command:
 sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-3-6 sudo apt-get -qq
 update

But there are no libreoffice-report-builder :(

But I've found latest libreoffice-report-builder for LibreOffice 3.6.5
 in Debian experimental repository, see:

 http://packages.debian.org/experimental/libreoffice-report-builder
 http://packages.debian.org/experimental/libreoffice-report-builder-bin

I will test how these libreoffice-report-builder packages work with the
latest LibreOffice 3.6 from ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-3-6 and if they
work fine then it would be nice to see these libreoffice-report-builder
packages in the main Baltix GNU/Linux repository (ppa:baltix-
 members/ppa).

Title:
  [needs-packaging] libreoffice-report-builder

Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
After upgrading to ubuntu i386 12.04 and installing libreoffice
3.5.2update3 I saw the is no libreoffice-report-builder-bin extention
any more. Although there is one in the experimental brance of debian
  http://packages.debian.org/experimental/libreoffice-report-builder. I
can no longer work without reports as they don't open. I use
libreoffice base as a frontend to a mysql database.

This is not an SRU candidate due to the following outstanding issues:

+ To include report-builder in main:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/992232/comments/32
The root of the problem is the Java-Maven-dependency-mess -- this makes it
nontrivial to enable Report-Builder to be included in main -- I would need the
help of the Java team to get that done in time.

+ To include report-builder in universe:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/992232/comments/35
That would essentially mean rewriting the build system of the extensions it
is currently build inside LO.

  WORKAROUND: In Precise only:
  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa
  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-universe
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get install libreoffice libreoffice-report-builder

I have no expirience with the vanilla-kernel.
I work only with the original Kubuntu-versions and found
the discribed way.
Sorry

 Why is this happening?
One bad thing with the vanilla version is that it doesn't include the mysql
native connector and you have to use JDBC (slow) or ODBC to get a mysql
 connection

 Hi,

the best way I tried is

 - download the original version from LibreOffice.org
 - unpack the file
 - uninstall the installed version with e.g. synaptic
 - install the version 3.6 (sudo dpkg -i *.deb)
 - be carefull, you have to install all file, also the files in the
 subdirectories,
in case of the wrong sequence, you will get an error

 Good luck!

http://packages.debian.org/experimental/libreoffice-report-builder. I
can no longer work without reports as they don't open. I use
libreoffice base as a frontend to a mysql database.

This is not an SRU candidate due to the following outstanding issues:

+ To include report-builder in main:

 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/992232/comments/32
The root of the problem is the Java-Maven-dependency-mess -- this makes
it nontrivial to enable Report-Builder to be included in main -- I would
need the help of the Java team to get that done in time.

+ To include report-builder in universe:

 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/992232/comments/35
That would essentially mean rewriting the build system of the extensions
it is currently build inside LO.

WORKAROUND: In Precise only:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-universe
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libreoffice libreoffice-report-builder

  Report-builder missing in Libreoffice (3.6)

Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Since the change from OpenOffice to LibreOffice ist the Report
Builder extension for LibreOffice missing in the Kubuntu-
systempackages. There is no chance to install separat the Report
  Builder.

The way to work with LibreOffice-Base and the Report Builder is

  - unistall the original Kubuntu version off the LibreOffice
  - download LibreOffice from new from the website LibreOffice.org
  - install this original Version

This is a possible way, but you can't find all necessary connections,
e.g. the automatic call of LibreOffice-Writer within Thunderbird with a
.txt-attachment.

Are you in a position to correct his in the Kubuntu-libraries.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 997114] Re: Airplane Mode is turned on when WiFi is turned off, even though I don't want Airplane Mode: I want to use 3G

2012-11-07 Thread Dietmar
I am still affected by this bug on a fully updated precise. For me, this is
completely unrelated to 3G.
When I uncheck Enable Wireless in nm-applet, I cannot re-check it, and in
Network Settings I see airplane mode is on, which cannot be disabled.
This workaround helps (from
http://askubuntu.com/questions/119195/cannot-disable-airplane-mode):
sudo rfkill unblock wifi

From lspci -v on the affected machine:

When turning off WiFi, Airplane mode is automatically turned on. If I

annoying if I'm about to connect a USB 3G-dongle for instance, whereas
I don't want to use WiFi, but I want to disable it before connecting

12.04 LTS. It was the same in Linux Mint 12 iirc.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 996389] Re: NetworkManager unable to detect wifi when turning on hardware switch

2012-06-01 Thread Dietmar
For me, the problem began without touching the hardware switch, I merely
turned off wifi in network manager. To me, this issue seems related to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/997114 ,
since airplane mode was turned on when I turned wifi off.

Once on, I cannot turn airplane mode back off, and consequently I
can't turn wifi on. Found a workaround here
http://askubuntu.com/questions/119195/cannot-disable-airplane-mode

sudo rfkill list all
shows that wifi is blocked

sudo rfkill unblock all
will unblock it. After that, wireless works again. Until you turn it off via
network manager, or turn on airplane mode, then the problem reappears.
