[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1029209] Re: tidy doesn't support html5 syntax

2015-09-12 Thread Edward Vielmetti
There is a new version of Tidy (5.0.0) which has been released and which
is largely backwards compatible with the 2009 Tidy that ships right now.

See https://github.com/htacg/tidy-html5 for the source repository, and
this open issue

https://github.com/htacg/tidy-html5/issues/252

for the packaging issue. There is a desire on the part of the maintainer
to have distributions pick up and offer this current release.

Title:
  tidy doesn't support html5 syntax

Bug description:
Upstream (W3C?) hasn't updated the code in years, so it doesn't
recognize html5 declaration, and throws warnings or errors
  on valid html5 elements.

  Minor bug, maybe wishlist.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 589574] Re: libtidy creates invalid tags

2015-09-12 Thread Edward Vielmetti
This bug is fixed in tidy-html5 v5.0.0, as noted here

https://github.com/htacg/tidy-html5/issues/256

Title:
  libtidy creates invalid tags

Status in tidy package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: tidy

The following HTML causes libtidy to produce invalid tags:

  http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd;>

   BC

The result of running this through the tidy command line is:
  $ tidy -w0 t.html

  http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd;>
  http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml;>

  B<>>C>

The invalid tags change on each run, looking like use after free kind
  of problem.

This is running on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, updated recently.
  Linux 2.6.32-22-generic #35-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 1 14:18:25 UTC 2010 x86_64
GNU/Linux
  /etc/tidy.conf only contains comments.
there are no other tidy configuration files

  Using LD_PRELOAD I tested the libtidy from earlier distributions;
only the version from libtidy-0.99-0_20051018-1_amd64.deb does not show this
effect.
