Tested kernel 5.11.rc1 on Manjaro. Touchpad MSFT0001:00 04F3:3140 works out of

Bug description:
  Update (#296)
  =

  The latest kernel tree
  (https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git)
has the complete solution to fix this bug. So we can expect kernel
v5.11 to fix this issue without any additional work. Before the
release of v5.11, you are suggested to use #189 to save your touchpad.

The complete solution is three patches,
   - 47a0001436352c9853d72bf2071e85b316d688a2 ("pinctrl: amd: remove debounce
filter setting in IRQ type setting")
   - 06abe8291bc31839950f7d0362d9979edc88a666 ("pinctrl: amd: fix incorrect way
to disable debounce filter")
   - 8dcb7a15a585b6d0fee15751ce11d7a68cfedd56 ("gpiolib: acpi: Take into
account debounce settings")

The first two patches has reached the stable tree. If the last one is
also backported to LTS kernel, you won't need to install kernel 5.11.
But I don't know when this will happen.

  Original bug report
  ===

  Hello

The MSFT touchpad of this Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05 laptop is not reacting at
all (pointer and click never move when touchpad is touched). This has been
reported by other users in various websites, with various linux systems
including other Ubuntu systems, but I saw no launchpad bug so I post one.
Example of websites covering the issue :
  - https://askubuntu.com/questions/1253830/lenovo-legion-5-touchpad (exactly
the same laptop)
  - https://www.linux.org/threads/lenovo-legion-5-touchpad.29536/ (similar

Thanks a lot for your time. It does not help, but I can confirm what
was reported on askubuntu by another user : the touchpad does work on

2020-09-27 Thread Gerald Bachner
Hi,

tested patch + workaround from wangjun (added "static struct task_struct
*thread_hid = NULL;") on Manjaro 5.9rc6:
Touchpad MSFT0001:00 04F3:3140 works perfect.

Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1895217] Re: gnome control center mouse settings don't work in other window manager

2020-09-10 Thread Gerald Gilbert-Thorple
Hi Daniel, yes I was going to resort to that if necessary. Thanks!

One comment though, I found that the setting was not even saved before I
switched to Fvwm.
I had to redo the mouse speed each time I logged into an Ubuntu session.

Hi,

attached the etl tracefile. I could not get the pdb files from the
Microsoft symbol server to view it in TraceView. I hope this helps.

Bug description:
  Hello

The MSFT touchpad of this Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05 laptop is not reacting at
all (pointer and click never move when touchpad is touched). This has been
reported by other users in various websites, with various linux systems
including other Ubuntu systems, but I saw no launchpad bug so I post one.
Example of websites covering the issue :
  - https://askubuntu.com/questions/1253830/lenovo-legion-5-touchpad (exactly
the same laptop)
  - https://www.linux.org/threads/lenovo-legion-5-touchpad.29536/ (similar

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1818899] Re: [nouveau] After Ubuntu Base update tp 4.15.0-46-generic computer freezes after login

2019-03-22 Thread Gerald
Hi,
just an update, probably not related to the nvidia driver issue itself but
perhaps useful for people that stumble upon this page for a similar problem.

The startup hanging et ubuntu logo stopped without updating anything but
grub2 when i switched it to verbose mode.

method :

Edit /etc/default/grub and edit the following line:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

Change it to:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="--verbose nosplash debug"

Then, run the following command in a terminal
sudo update-grub2

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1818899] Re: [nouveau] After Ubuntu Base update tp 4.15.0-46-generic computer freezes after login

2019-03-14 Thread Gerald
I have the same problem

18.04.2 LTS, 4.15.0-46-generic #49

With something perhaps useful :

I have grub for multi-boot, and only this one ubuntu OS installed

-When the computer was on, with ubuntu or another system, a system restart
leads me to grub, that leads me to ubuntu, and it is stuck.
-At this point a command like ctrl+alt+del restarts the system, takes me back
to grub, that leads to ubuntu, and it keeps hanging.

When i perform a hard reset while it's stuck (computer button), grub
leads me to ubuntu that boots instantaneously, no hanging.

Repeated several times.
So for the moment, hard reset is my workaround.

I don't know how apport works so sorry not to feed the issue with one.
(typed apport-collect 1818899, ubuntu replies im not 'abonné' (french)...etc.)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1804333] Re: Cheese detects only low-res YUYV stream from camera

2019-02-03 Thread Andrew Gerald
Thank you!

Cheese should changed to search for and enumerate, or manually select,
cameras by /dev/device#, such as for example:

$ cheese -d "/dev/video1"

Instead of the way it's currently programmed, such as for example:

$ cheese -d "Secret Squirrel Webcam"

(The contents of the "ID_V4L_PRODUCT" variable.)

OR: Perhaps the combination of both methods should be employed to find
and enumerate ALL devices and streams. Perhaps like this:

"Secret Squirrel Webcam (video0)"
"Secret Squirrel Webcam (video1)"
"Secret Squirrel Webcam (video2)"
"Some Other Camera Device (video3)"

Any hope of this being addressed? It makes Cheese essentially useless
for multi-stream cameras because a particular stream cannot be selected.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1804333] Re: Cheese detects only low-res YUYV stream from camera

2018-11-24 Thread Andrew Gerald
Here's the problem:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/cheese/issues/4
Cheese uses "ID_V4L_PRODUCT" to differentiate video devices...
My camera and others have multiple video streams which are enumerated as
"video0" "video1" "video2" etcetera.
In all instances/streams "ID_V4L_PRODUCT" is the same...

"-d" option still doesn't work even in v3.30 -- it always uses video0.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1804333] Re: Cheese detects only low-res YUYV stream from camera

2018-11-21 Thread Andrew Gerald
I forgot to add that on the Cheese reference page...
https://developer.gnome.org/cheese/stable/cheese.html
...under "Invocation: cheese takes a list of options as arguments: Options:" a
command line switch is documented that supposedly permits selecting the video
device...
"--device=DEVICE, -d DEVICEUse the supplied DEVICE as the video capture
device."
...but this has no effect, and even when entering a nonexistent video device
(or random characters) no error message is returned; apparently this
functionality is missing.
I've tried all permutations of video device, ex- "/dev/video#" and just "video#"

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1666264] Re: FFe: Update gnome-terminal to 3.24 and vte to 0.48

2017-05-08 Thread Gerald Nunn
I have an upstream bug report for tilix in Ubuntu 17.10 where the VTE is
complaining about not supporting PCRE2 despite VTE reporting that it is
version 0.48.2 which should support it.

https://github.com/gnunn1/tilix/issues/916

Is this caused by Ubuntu going with the #3 option and reverting the
PCRE2 commits in VTE? If so this is going to cause issues with any VTE
based terminal emulator that is relying on checking the version number
to determine available VTE functionality.

Any plans on correcting this with a hot fix?

FFe: Update gnome-terminal to 3.24 and vte to 0.48

Status in gnome-terminal package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in vte2.91 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
gnome-terminal and vte are still at their 3.20 (and 0.44) versions
because they now hard-depend on pcre2, but the pcre2 MIR (LP:
#163) has stalled because there is already one version of pcre in
main and it would be a major task to convert all of main to use pcre2.

So I reverted 3 commits for gnome-terminal and 5 for vte to make that
MIR less urgent. I am concerned about the long-term maintainability of
this approach - the vte patch is over 1600 lines.

gnome-terminal 3.22 and vte 0.46 have been tested in the GNOME3
Staging PPA for yakkety and zesty for months. I am not aware of any
issues from that. This is slightly different since I haven't tested
those versions without pcre2 until this weekend.

The development cycle for gnome-terminal and vte has been fairly quiet
so I believe it's safe to go ahead and update gnome-terminal to
  3.23.90 and vte to 0.47.90.

  https://git.gnome.org/browse/vte/log

The packages are currently available for testing at

I am sure some files were missing or not all the formats were downloaded

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1592448] [NEW] [Satellite M115, Realtek ALC861-VD, Green Headphone Out, Front] No sound at all

2016-06-14 Thread Gerald
Public bug reported:

I recently installed Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS on this old laptop for my
daughter to use. There are two audio issues, however. The OS doesn't
appear to find the speaker on the laptop, so no sound plays them. While
there is sound through the headphones, it is so low as to be inaudible.

I've worked through some of the sound troubleshooting guide, but run into
issues with it as well. The very first command suggested to run "killall

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 880657] Re: stuck retrieving emails from IMAP

2013-03-22 Thread Gerald Wolczanski
Ditto for me, problems as described above

Worse yet, it's crashing evolution. When this "retrieving POP Summary" is
grinding away, I am totally locked out of Evolution.
I try to cancel the operation - no dice.
Also, I log into a terminal and try to kill evolution - no dice as well, except
that, after about 5 - 10 minutes the kill command
takes effect.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 750429] Re: empathy uses proxy when it shouldn't

2012-05-09 Thread Gerald Nunn
One potential workaround is if you have a choice between defining your
proxy manually or using an automatic URL, Empathy appears to only work
with the manual proxy entry so if you use the automatic setting Empathy
ignores the proxy. The downside is if you have a mix of IM services,
some requiring proxy some not, then this isn't too useful.

Title:
empathy uses proxy when it shouldn't

Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: empathy

Empathy is trying to connect to the Windows Live (MSN) service through
the proxy, but the system proxy settings only apply to HTTP and FTP.
Other applications respect this, but Empathy is trying to tunnel port
1863 (MSNP) through Squid. It therefore fails.

There is no way to set proxy settings within the app and adding
messenger.hotmail.com to the ignore hosts makes no difference
  whatsoever.

Title:
  keyboard login problem

Status in “gdm” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
A fairly new pc running 11.04 with latest updates and BIOS. During
login, each key must be depressed for about one second until a dot
appears. I reloaded 11.04 in June and it fixed this problem but weeks
later, after updates, it came back. All this occurred w/orig BIOS. I
updated BIOS (AFTER problems) but didn't fix it. I tried Sys sets >
Assis Tech > Keybrd and tried setting Only Accept Long Keypresses and
setting it short, but had no effect. I tried disabling gdm by "sudo
sys-rc-conf" and by gdm, put X under ALL run levels, rebooted and no
effect ie same gui with slow key read. Swapped keyboards, no change.
My other pc, running 11.04, works ok. It's 1.5 years old, the problem
one is only 6 months old. After login, keyboard works perfect.

  ProblemType: Bug
  DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04
  Package: gdm 2.32.1-0ubuntu3.2

Not detecting button press at login unless long pressed

Status in “gdm” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
The Login screen doesn't accept a word or letter unless it is long
  pressed. For instance:

Say you want to type 'A', you press A, but it doesnt show it in the
screen (if it is a password, no star there).

If you want it to be typed, then you have to pree 'A' and hold for
about half a second or more until it appears on the screen.

  System Specs:
  Dell Inspiron 1545
  3 Gb Ram
Ubuntu 11.04 (intalled on June 2011)

PS: This error wasn't present initially. Only after the first System
  update, it appeared.
