[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2019501] [NEW] Matebook D15 AMD Ryzen 5500U - Can't find Headphones/Speakers and not working

2023-05-14 Thread Jacopo Damerini
Public bug reported:

My speakers and headphones jack don't work properly: Ubuntu can't find
these audio output and can't of course reproduce a sound. Using USB
audio card [to connect headphones jack/mic] works, and also I can use
the HDMI video and audio output perfectly.

I've tested the speakers and headphones with Windows and there's no problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1021375] Re: Nautilus says the USB stick is read only when it is not

2019-01-29 Thread Jacopo
I can confirm this is happening on Xubuntu 18.10 with Thunar as the file
manager.
The workaround 'killall Thunar' after inserting the USB drive does work however!

Bug description:
First time I use an USB drive since I updated to 12.04 and I found a
really annoying bug on Nautilus. Nautilus claims that the destination
drive is read-only when in fact it is not.

  How to reproduce:

  1. Connect a USB stick drive to your competer.
  2. The USB will appear in the desktop.
  3. Open two Nautilus windows one in your home folder, other in the USB stick
drive.
  4. Select any file from your home folder (small enough to fit the free space
in the USB drive)
  5. Drag the file and drop it in the USB drive window.

-- Nautilus will say that it cannot copy the file because the
  destination is read ony --

If you try the copy the same file with the terminal you will see that
the file is copied without problem, other programs like gedit or
LibreOffice can write in the usb stick drive just fine.

It is not a problem with the USB stick, as shown here:

But nautilus just dennies to copy the file claming that the
destination is read only, when it is not.

I tested it with two different USB sticks in two different computers
running Ubuntu 12.04 and the same result.

But nautilus just dennies to copy the file claming that the

I tested it with two different USB sticks in two different computers
running Ubuntu 12.04 and the same result.

Title:
[Realtek ALC1220 ASUS PRIME X370] Recording is very slow and plays 10x
  faster

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Recording applications (audacity, arecord, gnome-sound-recorder)
record extremely slowly (at what seems to be 0,1x speed), which means
that at playback the sound is played at a very high pitch and much
  faster than the original.

To help you understand the issue, I've attached an archive containing two
files recorded at the same time, one with arecord -f cd and the other with a
stand-alone Olympus recorder.
A video of Audacity's behavior when trying to record is also available:
https://youtu.be/Fe20eQNvZVA
Look at the seconds hand of the xclock and how much it is moving before
Audacity is done recording one second of audio.

  Things I've already tried:
  *  Purging and reinstalling Audacity
  * Purging and reinstalling Pulseaudio following the guide on the Ubuntu Wiki
  * Running audacity with this command: Exec=env PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=30
audacity as suggested on AskUbuntu
  * Reinstalling Ubuntu on a new hard disk
  * Running audacity on a live CD (in Ubuntu version 16.04.3, 17.10.1, 18.04
daily and Xubuntu 17.10.1, 18.04 daily)

The machine is a Ryzen 5 1600 with an ASUS X370 Prime motherboard.

The problem can be reproduced as follows:

  * Boot a live DVD of Ubuntu/Xubuntu 16.04.3, 17.10.1, 18.04 daily (versions
I've tested with)
  * Install audac

Title:
Seahorse won't generate a key when .gnupg directory owned by root,
  only gives unhelpful "General error"

Status in seahorse package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Bug Summary (by nUboon2Age): When the ~/.gnupg/ directory and its
contents are owned by root Seahorse gives: Couldn't generate PGP key
// General error. To get Seahorse working again the ~/.gnupg/
directory must be deleted. This allows Seahorse to run not only new
gpg creation but also run 'Sync and Publish keys' which otherwise
seems to stall indefinitely. Bug fix suggestions in comments below.

  {original bug report below}
  Binary package hint: seahorse

Seahorse will not generate a new key. I have used gksudo to launch
seahorse from the command line. Seahorse opens. I press on the 'new'
button to generate a new key. I select PGP key and press continue. I
fill out the fields for 'real name', 'email address', and 'comment'. I
click on the arrow for advanced options. I select 4096 for key
strength. I remove the check from the box that says never expires. I
click on 'Create'. It asks me for a Passphrase for New PGP Key. I
enter my password two times, the same both times. I click oK.

A box pops up with an error message in it:

  Couldn't generate PGP key

  General error

The html tags are in the actual error message. No key is generated.

  I am running Ubuntu 8.10
  gpg is installed:
  em@leibniz:~$ gpg --version
  gpg (GnuPG) 1.4.9
  em@leibniz:~$ uname -a
  Linux leibniz 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 22:15:32 UTC 2008 x86_64
GNU/Linux

  ===

I too have the similar problem:
right click on folder, select "Encrypt". At this point I get message that no
key are available and seahorse opens up.

I click on File, New, fill out name, email, comment, leave other
defaults alone. Next I get the password box I fill in the password,
and the working bar apears for about a minute or two and then I get an
error message saying that it can not generate key.

I was running 8.10 with latest patches, last night I upgraded to 9.04
to see if it would help, but it did not, still get the same error.

Thanks for any one looking into this.

  Artefacts with nouveau driver

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-nouveau” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
On my laptop, Acer Aspire 7520 with a Geforce 8400m G graphics card I
can't get the nvidia driver working correctly: this driver crashes my
system (brings it to a total freeze, not abililty to start another
session or reboot) totally at least 3 times a day.

With Nouveau drivers it seems to work fine, but after some time, I get
artefacts in programs, on the desktop and the unity bar. It gets
  unusable very fast.

Restarting X solves the problem, but causes (obviously) a restart of
  all running apps.

I have added x-edgers ppa instead of the regular source, but this
brings only a very slight improvement (at least so it seems),

Well, I have includes a screenshot of my messed up desktop.

I have seen that this was a problem in the past as well (found some
bug reports for plain vanilla debian).

  Oct 28 18:00:50 jakob-Vostro-1500 kernel: [ 1454.599145] [drm] nouveau
:01:00.0: fail ttm_validate
  Oct 28 18:00:50 jakob-Vostro-1500 kernel: [ 1454.599150] [drm] nouveau
:01:00.0: validate vram_list
  Oct 28 18:00:50 jakob-Vostro-1500 kernel: [ 1454.599204] [drm] nouveau
:01:00.0: validate: -12
The crashes appear to be nondeterministic:
Most of the time, when I boot the system with external displays plugged into
the VGA port, something crashes. In the worst cases the whole system crashes
and only SysRq keys are working. At other times I'm still able to reach the
terminal via ctrl-alt-f1. Even if the system survived, the window manager often
later on hangs and displays false colors and sometimes recovers. The log files
automatically attached by apport should document the latter error symptom.

I'd be happy to supply more information if you can give me hints how
  to gather them.

Can you post the output of the dmesg log, right after the issue takes
place? You should see some PGRAPH - TRAP_TEXTURE errors listed.

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-nouveau” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I'm using Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal, on my Vostro 1400 with Nvidia GeForce
  8400 GS.

Since installation, I switch to Nvidia driver and it works alright,
but the windows performance is choppy, especially windows animation
effects. Disabling Sync to VBlank and compression make it works a bit
smoother, but still unacceptable. At least there are no screen tearing
  and stuff.

I decide to give Nouveau driver, holy god the windows compiz effects
  are smooth butter.

  - What I expect to happen: Dash open normnally and smoothly
  - What happened instead: screen tearing, graphical flickering unless I close
Dash. The libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental package does not help.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1050455] Re: Eclipse doesn't look for SWT libraries properly

Title:
Eclipse doesn't look for SWT libraries properly

Status in “eclipse” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
If a user uses oracle java 7 (currently in a webupd8 ppa) and tries to
load eclipse, an error similar to that below occurs (as described here
  http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10165693/ubuntu-eclipse-cannot-
  load-swt-libraries-not-opening)

The problem is that the SWT libraries are not located in
  /usr/.swt/lib/linux/x86_64/ (or /usr/.swt/lib/linux/x86) but in
/usr/lib/jni/ and eclipse doesn't look for them hard enough, and
then complains it can't find them.

The workaround is to create a symbolic link

  (for 32 bit)
  ln -s /usr/lib/jni/libswt-* ~/.swt/lib/linux/x86/

  And on 64 bit:

  ln -s /usr/lib/jni/libswt-* ~/.swt/lib/linux/x86_64/

or to use sudo update-alternatives --config java and select to use
  the openjdk version.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1072403] Re: Unity and GnomeShell hang or crash with nouveau kernel error messages fail ttm_validate, validate vram_list and validate: -12

2012-10-29 Thread Jacopo Moronato
I have the same messages on syslog, the difference is that in my case
there is no crash, but graphical corruptions instead.

Title:
Unity and GnomeShell hang or crash with nouveau kernel error messages
  fail ttm_validate, validate vram_list and validate: -12

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-nouveau” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hi,

since I reinstalled my Ubuntu (previous version was 11.04) my window managers
have become very unstable. I believe it is nouveau's fault as I found these
lines in /var/log/kern.log:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1058957] [NEW] Firefox may lose dropdown menu and pop-up menu when MenuBar present on KDE

2012-09-30 Thread Jacopo Di Battista
Public bug reported:

When Firefox has extension Global Menubar integration 3.2.5 and I had
plasma menubar on my panel, Firefox often loses dropdown menu and right-
click pop-up menu. The problem still persist in 3.5.1 version of
globalmenu.

Procedure:
With plasma-menubar active (menu on top panel like mac osx style), open firefox
with any normal web-age, click on clear history and try to dropdown the menu (1
hour ago, 24 hours ...) it doesn't work. Then also right click on web page
don't work.

There are many ways to reproduce the problem, the above is just one example.

I guess the problem lies between Global Menubar integration and Plasma Menubar.
Since everything go back to normal when I disabled the firefox extension
Global Menubar integration. I use Kubuntu 12.04 with kde 4.8.5

The problem wasn't present with globalmenu 3.2, when i used firefox
13...

Thanks.

** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Bug description:

Workaround: manual install of package Gstreamer plugins for mms,

Real solution: totem / Ubuntu should install automagically.

The required software to play this file is not installed. You need to
install suitable plugins to play media files. Do you want to search for a

After clicking on Search, I get the message:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

  Possibly related to bug #383484
I had not configured any search engines for firefox-3.0, but used the default
Google in the Navigation tool bar. After upgrading, the only choice available
is adk.com
[ask.com is rather useless for me, being unable to limit searches to either
my home country or my native language. Anyway, someone else overriding my
preferences for search engines is definitely uncool.]

There is a choice to manage search engines, which again leads to the
general Mozilla plugin search page, where there does not seem to be
any straight google search plugin. I am looking for the simple default
that was there in 3.0, not a new toolbar or some fancy additional
  functionality.

  1. While on the desktop, with no windows focused, press some letter or number
keys.
  2. A small search window appears in the lower right corner of the screen,
just like in normal Nautilus windows.

Ideally, point 2 should not happen.
