[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1669321] [NEW] firefox slow

2017-03-02 Thread Schalk Janus Kruger
Public bug reported:

Firefox is very slow and unresponsive at times. When typing or navigating it
would have a massive delay in responding any input.
It uses around 1GB to 1,8GB on avg. I usually have about 10 tabs open. Not too
many.
I have now disabled all add-ons and extension. Doesnt make any difference

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1495099] [NEW] g_type_instance_get_private: assertion 'instance != NULL && instance->g_class != NULL' failed

2015-09-12 Thread Janus
Public bug reported:

First, my usual network disappeared from the list, and I had to connect
to another. It worked great, but I needed to communicate with a machine
on the old network, so I replugged my USB WLAN adapter, and I could
connect again. A few minutes later, network-manager crashed. The
connection still works though.

This seems to be the problem:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1479913] Re: SRU request: fglrx.ko fails because of backported GPL-only 'pci_ignore_hotplug' symbol

2015-08-18 Thread Janus
I know this may be an useless comment, but I managed to get here only
when I selected another kernel and found fglrx working.

I found weird Xorg log, found weird DKMS module build log (yes, why
doesn't APT get an error on building? We could notice the disaster far,
far earlier!), selected to let apport report an error and found this one
already reported (I restart my machine once a month or like that
usually, so no idea when I'd run into that other way.

It took several hours of going in almost blind (I installed updates, not
much other stuff — what could be my path if I changed many packages in
the system, I only could guess), my luck was that I want to found the
answer. Not willing that thing to any novice, seriously.

[GM965] GPU lockup running OpenGL applications on Dell Vostro 1510

Status in Mesa:
  Fix Released
Status in mesa package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Hello, I'm suffering a GPU lockup problem with Ubuntu 14.10 64-bit on
a Dell Vostro 1510 laptop with Intel graphics. The problem used to
arise also with Ubuntu 14.04 and is always reproducible with glmark2
on the LiveCD. Just to run the ideas benchmark of glmark2 to trigger
the lockup in few seconds (glmark2 -b ideas). Other OpenGL
applications also causes the lockup (e.g. FooBillard++, my self-made
SDL applications). Memory test passed, BIOS at the latest version.
Don't know if the following is a good point but I think that the
problem is not caused by a failing hardware because it works fine on
Windows. I tried with the latest Intel upstream kernel
  (http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-
  next/current/) and upstream X.org (https://launchpad.net/~xorg-
  edgers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa), no change.

  [Personal Notes]
I'm new to Ubuntu's world, I hope I've done things right, if not please tell
me and I will resend the report or supply more information. I've created the
bug report with ubuntu-bug xorg --save from another machine via SSH while the
sick machine was frozen. It seemed to me more logical than using ubuntu-bug
directly when the system is working fine. I've collected other information via
SSH during the same lockup: dmesg, Xorg.0.log, i915_error_state. The latter was
added as attachment.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1388612]

2015-02-03 Thread Janus
Regarding the GPU reset, it is in Linux since 3.19-rc1. So if your GPU
is not resetting after crashing, upgrade your kernel. Ubuntu has
mainline Linux kernel dpkg packages that work well.

This is the patching commit:
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/656bfa3afc14e45e2d9e1624bf60d79b3beb12f2

It sounds like everyone's GPU's are resetting, so I'm wondering if maybe
the Ubuntu guys backported this.

Title:
[GM965] GPU lockup running OpenGL applications on Dell Vostro 1510

Status in Mesa:
  Fix Released
Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Hello, I'm suffering a GPU lockup problem with Ubuntu 14.10 64-bit on
a Dell Vostro 1510 laptop with Intel graphics. The problem used to
arise also with Ubuntu 14.04 and is always reproducible with glmark2
on the LiveCD. Just to run the ideas benchmark of glmark2 to trigger
the lockup in few seconds (glmark2 -b ideas). Other OpenGL
applications also causes the lockup (e.g. FooBillard++, my self-made
SDL applications). Memory test passed, BIOS at the latest version.
Don't know if the following is a good point but I think that the
problem is not caused by a failing hardware because it works fine on
Windows. I tried with the latest Intel upstream kernel
  (http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-
  next/current/) and upstream X.org (https://launchpad.net/~xorg-
  edgers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa), no change.

  [Personal Notes]
I'm new to Ubuntu's world, I hope I've done things right, if not please tell
me and I will resend the report or supply more information. I've created the
bug report with ubuntu-bug xorg --save from another machine via SSH while the
sick machine was frozen. It seemed to me more logical than using ubuntu-bug
directly when the system is working fine. I've collected other information via
SSH during the same lockup: dmesg, Xorg.0.log, i915_error_state. The latter was
added as attachment.

The issue is resolved in Chrome for me; thank you Kenneth, your patch
makes it so that I do not have this issue every day on YouTube. However,
foobilliardplus does make the GPU hang. See my attachment for a
screenshot showing display corruption.

Can we reopen this?

2014-12-25 Thread Janus
I was wrong, DebugWait didn't help. I disabled DebugWait again of
course.

It looks as if upgrading to kernel v3.19-rc1 did though.

I got the kernel here: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v3.19-rc1-vivid/

However, the commit ID of the patch doesn't match the one Daniel Vetter
gave above. I found this though, with the same commit description:
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/656bfa3afc14e45e2d9e1624bf60d79b3beb12f2

In debugfs, I can see that the new code paths are getting hit:

# cat /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_swizzle_info
bit6 swizzle for X-tiling = bit9/bit10/bit11
bit6 swizzle for Y-tiling = bit9/bit11
DDC = 0x000f0002
DDC2 = 0x
C0DRB3 = 0x
C1DRB3 = 0x
L-shaped memory detected

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1393205]

2014-12-25 Thread Janus
I have this chip, running with version 2:2.99.916+git201412 of the Intel
driver from xorg-edgers didn't help. I used the DebugWait trick from bug
37326 and it seemed to help.

Is this a glitch or is my graphics card unsupportive.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1393205]

2014-12-25 Thread Janus
I have 3145990144 bytes of RAM and I think it may also be bug 55000. But
since that bug does not mention the DebugWait workaround, and it works
for me, I don't know what to think.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1391243] [NEW] libg1-mesa-dev doesn't create /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libGL.so link

2014-11-10 Thread Janus
Public bug reported:

Package version installed: 10.3.0-0ubuntu3
Ubuntu release: Utopic (normal upgrade from Trusty)

Trying to build OpenGL-depending program I run ./configure script which
tries to invoke «glBegin» with gcc and -lGL, and it fails.

I have both libgl1-mesa-{dev,dri,glx} and fglrx-updates{,-dev} installed, and
only manual symlinking helps.
Alhough I wanted fglrx libGL.so.1.2 symlinked, none is being symlinked, so it's
bad in its current state.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1386742] [NEW] Additional drivers recommends wrong solution for BCM4318

2014-10-28 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Public bug reported:

On my Acer Aspire 3613WLMi laptop I have the following wireless network
card:

thue@thue-Aspire-3610:~$ lspci
[...]
06:05.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g]
802.11g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02)
[...]

Which is not automatically working on installation. The additional
drivers in the ubuntu control center recommends downloading a
properitary driver (see attached screenshot) - after I install that the
network card doesn't actually work, and the kernel oopses.

But if I after much googling install the firmware-b43-installer package
from the Ubuntu repository, then my wireless network card works! So IMO
the additional drivers should offer that solution for this device, at
least as an option. The additional drivers dialogue actually continues
to say this device is not working after I have done this, even though
the wireless network connection is up and running.

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1185527] Re: Depends on usb-modeswitch-data (= 20110227-1~)

2014-01-12 Thread Janus
Slm!

I'd like to correct it at least locally, but in fact I don't want
that app working at the moment for several months yet, and package
maintainer does not take care of that, and unless we break it thru and
let maintainer correct the thing others won't have it working. Correct
me if anything's wrong with what I said.

В Sun, 12 Jan 2014 20:39:44 -
Søren Holm s...@sgh.dk пишет:

This is as far as I can see not an upstream bug, but merely a
 versioning issue.

 usb-modeswitch depends on usb-modeswitch-data = 20110227-1~, but
it turns out that usb-modeswitch-data's version is in fact
20131113-1. But I'm guessing that that the ending ~ might trick the
 package management system.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
