Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1060888] Re: Web app prompt appears on every single page load
This feels very much like a design flaw. No site should ask on every page load, IMO. On Wed, Oct 10, 2012 at 12:59 AM, Ken VanDine ken.vand...@canonical.comwrote: If this needs to be fixed in greasemonkey, I think we have a design flaw. The user experience of sites with native integration should be first class, if we ever want to convince sites to integrate. IMO greasemonkey should be just a bridge to get us over the hump and eventually die. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of WebApps Team, which is subscribed to WebApps: unity-chromium-extensions. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1060888 Title: Web app prompt appears on every single page load Status in Ayatana Design: Fix Committed Status in Chromium extension: Unity Integration: New Status in Firefox extension: Unity Integration: Invalid Status in WebApps: Websites integration Firefox plug-in: In Progress Status in “unity-chromium-extension” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “unity-firefox-extension” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “webapps-greasemonkey” package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Bug description: 1. In Firefox, go to a Web site that integrates with Unity's web apps feature. 2. Try to scroll the page with a trackpad or mousewheel. 3. Click a link to another page on the same site. 4. Click the link again. 5. Repeat steps 2~4 a few more times. What happens: 1. A web app prompt appears. 2. The prompt blocks scrolling with trackpad/mousewheel. 3. The prompt also blocks your first attempt to click something on the page. 5. The prompt reappears on every single page. This is terrible design. Sometimes Web sites do something like this on the first or second page you visit in a session: putting up an advertisement or an invitation for a survey, that you can click outside to return to the page. But if any site did that on *every* page you visit, nobody would visit that site any more. So this is appropriate behavior only if you don't want any non-Ubuntu Web site to ever adopt the web apps feature. What should happen: either * the prompt appears only once per site per Firefox session, or * the prompt appears only once per site per day. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 926207] Re: Set formats related LC_* variables when applicable instead of LC_MESSAGES, LC_CTYPE and LC_COLLATE
** Tags removed: rls-p-tracking -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to language-selector in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/926207 Title: Set formats related LC_* variables when applicable instead of LC_MESSAGES, LC_CTYPE and LC_COLLATE Status in Ubuntu Translations: New Status in “accountsservice” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “language-selector” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “localechooser” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Up to Oneiric the LANG environment variable has in Ubuntu been considered to represent the regional formats. Hence, in cases where a user wants to use different locales for language respective formats, LC_MESSAGES, LC_CTYPE and LC_COLLATE has been set explicitly. Consequently the installer has set those three variables in /etc/default/locale when applicable. In Precise we are making a conceptual change, meaning that LANG now is considered to represent the display language, and the formats related LC_* variables are set explicitly when needed to distinguish between language and formats. As mentioned at bug #590108, this is the rationale for the switch: * It's how GNOME does it in g-c-c, and considering that we are moving towards replacing the language-selector UI with Region and Language in g-c-c, it would eliminate one of the current differences in approach between Ubuntu and GNOME. * There seems to be quite a few desktop apps/tools, or parts of apps, that ignore both LANGUAGE and LC_MESSAGES for the display language, and let LANG solely determine the display language. (My LANG usually contains a Swedish locale, while my display language is English, and I often see Swedish translations in dialogs and menus.) * Some distributions may prefer the simplistic approach to equal l10n with simply picking a locale name and assigning it to LANG. If we would switch to let LANG represent the language, the LANG variable would be used for language all over, which would reduce the risk for confusion with respect to locale/language settings. Changes reflecting this switch have recently been uploaded to accountsservice and language-selector. Previous settings in /etc/default/locale and /etc/environment of LC_MESSAGES, LC_CTYPE and LC_COLLATE are deleted via accountsservice.postinst. http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/precise/accountsservice/precise/view/head:/debian/accountsservice.postinst For fresh installs that code is skipped, so it's important that the corresponding changes are made to the installer: In cases when the user makes choices at installation meaning that the locale for display language differs from the locale for regional formats, the installer should set LC_NUMERIC, LC_TIME, LC_MONETARY, LC_PAPER, LC_NAME, LC_ADDRESS, LC_TELEPHONE, LC_MEASUREMENT and refrain from setting LC_MESSAGES, LC_CTYPE and LC_COLLATE. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 941229] Re: Scrubbing seek bar causes Banshee, Rhythmbox and Totem to freeze. Error: GStreamer-WARNING **: wrong STREAM_LOCK count 0
** Tags added: rls-p-tracking -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to glib2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/941229 Title: Scrubbing seek bar causes Banshee, Rhythmbox and Totem to freeze. Error: GStreamer-WARNING **: wrong STREAM_LOCK count 0 Status in The G Library - GLib: Fix Released Status in “glib2.0” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Banshee and Totem both suffer from a very annoying bug where they will lock up when trying to interact with them while media is playing. It's hard to describe, but here are the main points: * When the application locks up, GStreamer-WARNING **: wrong STREAM_LOCK count 0 is output. * I have tested this with quite a diverse MP3 library. * This happens **most frequently** using gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3. * This happens less frequently when using lame/mad from gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly. * I am unable to reproduce this issue with OGG/Vorbis audio. Steps to reproduce: 1. Install gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3, as it is easiest to trigger the bug (works with gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly as well, just not as often). 2. Open any MP3 in Totem from the terminal. 3. Seek madly for 5-10 seconds or until it freezes. (Sometimes the freeze is instantaneous, sometimes it takes a few seconds of trying.) 4. Observe the GStreamer warning message and deadlock. This has been *very* difficult to pin down, as it happens seemingly at random. I'm attaching a backtrace of Totem's state during the freeze. Some points of note: * The GStreamer-CRITICAL message is unrelated to the freezing from what I can tell, as it doesn't show up during other traces I've done. * ^C is where it froze. * #10 is libgstflump3dec.so -- could not find debugging symbols for this, but as it happens with the other MP3 decoders as well, I don't think the problem lies in the MP3 plugins themselves. Something I've noticed while testing this: it appears to freeze more often around when threads are created/destroyed. Let me know if there's any more information I can provide. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 820327] Re: Fn+F7 cycling gives external monitor incorrect resolution on Thinkpad x220
** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Rodrigo Moya (rodrigo-moya) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/820327 Title: Fn+F7 cycling gives external monitor incorrect resolution on Thinkpad x220 Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: ## Issue Pressing Fn+F7 to cycle through monitor configuration produces unusable monitor configuration on external-monitor-only mode. External monitor is set to incorrect resolution when it's the only active display. xrandr output does not match resolution of external display that is actually set. E.g., xrandr shows 1920x1080@60Hz, but monitor status menu shows 1360 x 768 @ 60Hz, which it does not support. ## Environment - Thinkpad X220 (T61 also fails) - External monitor attached ## Steps to reproduce: - connect external monitor to ThinkPad X220 (or X61) - press Fn+F7 to cycle through modes - on External Monitor Only mode, compare resolution of external monitor as reported by xrandr and the monitor itself. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 838756] [NEW] new tab on desktop nautilus makes awkward desktop experience
Public bug reported: click on desktop so nautilus has focus. 1. you'll not that in the toolbar, the menu shows if you mouse over it, but it doesn't have a title (this is inconsistent with all other apps). 2. choose 'file - new tab'. you should get an all white screen (see screenshots). The white is actually a new tab in nautilus. you can see in another screenshot that if you move the mouse just below the power cog, there is a close tab button. Pressing that gets you back to your normal, expected desktop. this is really awkward for the user.
