[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1240198] Re: Wrong keyboard layout active after booting into desktop
It looks like Canonical is not interested in fixing essential bugs. This and some other essential bugs (nvidia driver problem, brcm driver problem) caused me to switch to native Debian with Gnome 3. And I was very astonished that Debian does not suffer from all these bugs, because both systems are based on Gnome 3. So it must be Canonical modifications that break the system, but no one at Canonical feels responsible for all these bugs. Instead they wait for someone upstream to fix these bugs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to ibus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1240198 Title: Wrong keyboard layout active after booting into desktop Status in “ibus” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “indicator-keyboard” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I upgraded from raring to saucy. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1315384] Re: python-indicate not showing up in message indicator
Yes, I did it the same way. I asked that question to Gajim developers and they answered, it could be because Gajim uses GTK2, while Unity is using GTK3. Is there some documentation how messaging menu can be used in GTK2? Or is this not possible? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1111884] Re: 10de:0611 nouveau fails at suspend/resume - PAGE_NOT_PRESENT
I have to correct myself. Kernel 3.7.10 does not solve the issues with nouveau. The only difference is: it does not always freeze after resume, but sometimes it also does. With later kernel version it always freezes. In many years as a Ubuntu user my experience is, that the free graphic drivers (nouveau, radeon) never worked satisfying, and this has not changed until now. The proprietary drivers always worked better, and I hope they gain control of the problems with nvidia driver. At the moment I think it's best to downgrade to 12.04 and wait for a half year or a year. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/884 Title: 10de:0611 nouveau fails at suspend/resume - PAGE_NOT_PRESENT Status in The Linux Kernel: Invalid Status in Accelerated Xorg driver for nVidia cards: Confirmed Status in “xserver-xorg-video-nouveau” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Happens when resuming from standby. Is there any progress in this critical bug? My MacBook 5,1 became mostly unusable after upgrade to Trusty because of Bug #1319899. Neither nouveau nor nvidia are working reliable in Trusty. Look at Ilia Mirkins answer. Looks like freedesktop.org is only cooperating with kernel developers. Normal users have to contact their distributions support channel. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1246272] Re: Keyboard layout changing randomly
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1240198 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1240198 Mirko, you are right. And it's also a shame how long critical bugs are unresolved. See Bug #884 . This makes nouveau graphics driver totally unusable on laptops (laptops need supsend/resume for power saving). This bug is reported in january 2013 and still unresolved! When those critical bugs are unresolved for such a long time, you can think about how low long it will take till this bug gets fixed. It's time to think about a switch to some other, more stable system. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1246272 Title: Keyboard layout changing randomly Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “unity-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Just upgraded from 12.04 (raring) to 12.10 (saucy) and keyboard layout keeps changing from pt_br to what I think is en_us. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1246272] Re: Keyboard layout changing randomly
I'm also wondering why this is of low priority. A system with a broken keyboard layout is totally broken and unusable. IMHO this is high! I'm thinking about downgrading to 12.04 which really worked flawless for me. Since install of 14.04 I have lots of problems on my MacBook 5,1. Nouveau is crashing on resume from suspend. Bug #884 Nvidia often does not recognize graphics card and input devices. Bug #1319899 Wifi often tries endless to connect. Maybe Bug #1310746, I'm not sure. Keyboard layout is changing randomly. My MacBook got really unusable with this upgrade. All these bugs exits since months, and my hope that they will be fixed soon is fading away from day to day. This is not what the One Hundred Papercuts claims. :-( -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1246272 Title: Keyboard layout changing randomly Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “unity-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Just upgraded from 12.04 (raring) to 12.10 (saucy) and keyboard layout keeps changing from pt_br to what I think is en_us. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1153488] Re: Treats bluetooth input device batteries as batteries
Is this bug about showing a wrong icon or showing the mouse battery at all? IMHO a mouse battery should not be shown at all. My Logitech wireless mouse has a non-chargable battery (primary cell) which runs a year (or longer) with the same battery. Its absolutely useless to show its status in favour of the laptop battery. My main concern is the laptop battery, not the mouse battery, and I wish to see laptop battery status all the time! This problem still exists in 14.04. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1153488 Title: Treats bluetooth input device batteries as batteries Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “upower” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “gnome-power-manager” source package in Precise: Invalid Status in “upower” source package in Precise: Fix Released Status in “gnome-power-manager” source package in Quantal: Invalid Status in “upower” source package in Quantal: Confirmed Status in “gnome-power-manager” source package in Raring: Invalid Status in “upower” source package in Raring: Fix Released Status in “gnome-power-manager” source package in Saucy: Invalid Status in “upower” source package in Saucy: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] * There are many Bluetooth devices with battery information inside. When they are treated as system battery, it will make the system poweroff/suspend/hibernate when some Bluetooth device has critical low battery. It is a very annoying behavior for the users. Originally, there is no such Bluetooth battery information until Ubuntu 12.04 brings linux-quantal-lts and linux-raring-lts, so those linux kernels also bring this issue. [Test Case] * Pair some Bluetooth devices, such as Apple Wireless Mouse or Apple Wireless Keyboard. * Click the power indicator and you can find Apple Wireless Mouse is listed as system battery, and there is no Apple Wireless Keyboard. If you open gnome-power-statistics, you can find the 'Supply' field of Apple Wireless Mouse is 'Yes' but it should not be. [Regression Potential] * There is no obvious regression as I know. [Other Info] * Most patches are from upstream, modified to fix the conflicts, and made by the same developer (i.e. fourdollars). * We need another patch from https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=d0a934b764c67b4bf626f5b7cf725a6e3066afd2 to make Apple Wireless Keyboard showing. [Original Bug Description] This is a weird one... the system is an HP Pavilion 23 All In One and is powered by a large power supply brick. I currently have an Apple Magic Mouse connected via Bluetooth. As soon as the mouse is connected, the Battery indicator shows up and clicking on that shows that the system is reading my mouse as a battery! See the attached screen shot for what I see in the Power status. Looking at hcitool: ubuntu@201206-11396:~$ hcitool dev Devices: hci0 9C:B7:0D:80:71:DB To make matters even more weird, I actually observed the battery indicator go from full to Critically Low and the system suspended itself. Keep in mind, again, that this system has NO battery, it's reading my bluetooth mouse as a battery device. I disconnected the magic mouse and the battery indicator went to Empty Red outline and status showed Battery Disconnected. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1004841] Re: Thunderbird Icon set is broken (ugly, black and white icons)
I'm wondering why it often lasts so long to fix some simple and stupid bugs in Ubuntu. Some time ago I switched to Debian Wheezy because of this, and I'm now very satisfied. Debian is a very conservative distribution which does not suffer from all these crude Canonical changes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1004841 Title: Thunderbird Icon set is broken (ugly, black and white icons) Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Since Oneiric the standard theme in thunderbird is broken. In Oneiric (and Precise) some of the coloured Icons were replaced by blackwhite pictograms, but not consistently all. For example the Lightning Icons still remain coloured, as they were before. I don't know why some Icons were replaced by pictograms (is this because of a new GTK-Theme?) , this is only in the Linux version of TB, the Windows version still has the coloured icons. It would have been better if the old standard theme remains untouched, and a new theme would have been created for the new blackwhite pictograms. See attached screenshot for the weird icons. Possible work-around: Download Thunderbird from mozilla, extract a file called omni.ja and overwrite the copy at /usr/lib/thunderbird/. I noted the also Deja -dup shows the same behaviour, now it's impossible to complete a backup from the share, it just hangs. It seems to me that a bug in the samba client might be the cause of these issues, since neither nautilus nor Deja-dup have problems with local large directories. my system: Ubuntu 12.10 AMD64 nautilus: 1:3.5.90.really.3.4.2-0ubuntu4 deja-dup: deja-dup 24.0-0ubuntu1 smbclient 2:3.6.6-3ubuntu5 samba-common: 2:3.6.6-3ubuntu5 samba-common-bin: 2:3.6.6-3ubuntu5 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: nautilus 1:3.5.90.really.3.4.2-0ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-18.29-generic 3.5.7 Uname: Linux 3.5.0-18-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu6 Architecture: amd64 Date: Wed Nov 7 12:05:58 2012 GsettingsChanges: b'org.gnome.nautilus.window-state' b'geometry' b'825x550+853+471' InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-10-22 (16 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal - Release amd64 (20121017.5) MarkForUpload: True SourcePackage: nautilus UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/1075923/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hi Stefano, i modified the file usr/share/gvfs/mounts/network.mount with that change you have to wait the first time you click on Network. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1004841] [NEW] Thunderbird Icon set is broken
Public bug reported: Since Oneiric the standard theme in thunderbird is broken. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 13983] Re: Evolution virtual trash / real trash on IMAP server
Boleslaw, you misunderstand. A protocol has nothing to do with a user interface. These are two distinct things. Look at the POP-protocol: it has no folders, it has no trash and it is not designed to leave mail on the server. But many mail clients have local folders, local trash, and leave mail on the server. The protocol is only the transport mechanism for mail, it has nothing to do with the way a mail client offers mail to the user. Now look at IMAP. Many old clients used it similar as POP, they fetched mail from the server as they did with POP. Folders were only local in these old clients. Modern clients work different, they leave mail on the server, they use folders on the server, and since trash is only a normal folder, they can move deleted mails to the trash folder on the server. Why should they restrict the user interface to the technical limits of the underlying protocol? There is no reason to do that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/13983 Title: Evolution virtual trash / real trash on IMAP server Status in The Evolution Mail Calendaring Tool: Confirmed Status in “evolution” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Hi, This bug refer to the bug 12439 of evolution (http://bugzilla.ximian.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6061). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 13983] Re: Evolution virtual trash / real trash on IMAP server
Don't mind about it. Evolution is history. Canonical has decided to make Thunderbird the default mail client, and they did it right. The evolution of evolution got stuck in the last century. If someone is argueing this is the way how imap is designed to work, he is not willing to make his piece of software user-friendly. This is a point which makes Apple so successfull. The user experience has to have the highest priority, not some old fashioned technical arguments.
