[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1926032] Re: [i915] Screen "disconnects" when updating screen buffer

2021-05-03 Thread Johannes Konow
Most certainly not a problem with hdmi connection. I have had windows
installed on the same machine without issues. The behavior is such that
it is very clear that as soon as you move the mouse after a period of
idle, the problem occurs. Also if the computer receives a notification
after a period of idle it occurs.

There is a definite link to activity which renders new information on
the screen buffer. It can play a movie without a problem on vlc but when
I pause, it disconnects the screen (presumably because the "pause" bars
appear on the screen). If I right click to add subtitles or change
something else in the video it also appears at the exact same time I
click. This problem is very repeatable. I can do a phone quality video
if that would be of interest.

If it was a problem with hdmi it would be more random in behavior and it
would be a problem on windows as well.

Bug description:
I have a problem in which the screen will behave as if I pulled the
HDMI or turned the computer off (no source) for a few seconds until
the screen comes back on again. This happens a lot when I open a new
window, moves the mouse after it has been still for a while or I open
a new window or move the current window.

I can watch a whole movie without this problem but as soon as I pause
or touch the controls of VLC or move the mouse the problem reocurr. It
seems to be after a certain idle period most of the time, but not
always. Sometimes it happens many times in a row.

The setup is my home built media PC with intel integrated graphics
  (i5-9400) connected to a philips 55" TV (55POS901F) through a Pioneer
  AV receiver.

I have tried probably every possible resolution and screen update
frequency and the problem is still there.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1533480] Re: banshee stops respondiing during media import

2016-10-16 Thread Johannes Konow
I have tried various scenarios... First I tried with eMusic only
disabled and that didn't work for me. Then I tried disabling all the
suggested extensions and that made the import seamless. Then I tried to
purge the settings folder for banshee and reinstalled it and tried again
with only podcast disabled and it does work... kinda. It crashed on the
first import halfway through and the second one worked but no progress
bar.

Something very fishy is going on here.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1314556] Re: Unable to mount Android MTP device

2016-02-03 Thread Johannes Konow
I can confirm this on two computers. One with 15.10 and the other with
14.04 (LTS version). Thing is, gMTP is working fine out of the box on
both computers so the issue is not the hardware.

I have had problems with MTP ever since android switched to MTP (various
phones, various computers) but have worked around with SD cards up until
now... new phone doesn't have SD card slot.

I feel this is a very important issue that needs solving ASAP if we want
the regular user to feel comfortable using Ubuntu.

Sorry, was too quick. Should add that I have tried various workarounds
with udev rules, the workaround in comment #40 etc, nothing seems to fix
the connection out of the box. I need to rely on gMTP for transfer.

Objective: To access raw photo image files from my Canon 400D digital
  camera, using a USB connection.

Result: GIMP (and UFRaw) produce the following error message:

Could not mount Canon Digital Camera
Error initialising camera: -1: Unspecified error

To explain my route to this error within GIMP, I went to FIle - Open
  - Canon Digital Camera, at which point it then hangs, eventually
producing the above error within a popup message.

The exact same error is produced when trying to select the Canon
  Digital Camera when using UFRaw.

(Related is the fact that the RawTherapee application crashes when
trying to select the camera device using its own folder list.)

I have searched for a solution of the above, but have only found that
this problem may somehow be related to USB 3.0. If so, then this is a
problem for me as I only have USB 3 (rather than USB 2) ports on my
  Asus UX31A.
