[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1002985]

2015-09-12 Thread John Gill
I just tested this with:

Version: 4.4.2.2
Build ID: 40m0(Build:2)
Locale: en_CA

On Ubuntu 15.04.

Saved as docx and it opened fine in Libre Office.

Would be good to test whether it works in Word, but I don't have that :)

Guessing this one is fixed.

Footnotes looked pretty good too :)

totem messes up dual screen setup

Status in “totem” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 with an Nvidia Geforce 8600M GS graphics
card.I'm using the proprietary Nvidia driver 280.13

I'm running in Twinview mode, with a 1280x1024 flat panel and a
1280x800 laptop screen to the right.

When I start up totem it messes up this set up. I end up unable to
get to the bottom 2024 pixels on the flat panel and unable to move to
  the laptop screen.

Firing up Nvidia settings daemon and disabling the flat panel, then
  re-enabling usually solves the problem.

Note this problem is not new in 11.10, it has been there for several
  releases.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1002985] [NEW] Saving documents in .doc format introduces bogus superscript text

2012-05-22 Thread John Gill
Public bug reported:

When I try and save the attached document in .doc format
(97/2000/XP/2003) -- other Microsoft Word formats have similar issues
-- text around some of the endnote markers gets converted to
superscript.

Note also that editing the word version to remove the superscript
attribute as necessary does not help: when the file is re-saved the
superscript text returns.

Further, the first endnote ends up with a larger font and a big gap to
the start of the footnote.

When the .doc is opened with Word there is further corruption.

Note that after saving as .doc you need to close the document and re-
open to see the corruption.

This is making it very difficult to use libreoffice for school work,
where teachers unfortunately are using Word to read the papers.

Apologies for not being able to create a smaller example.

Looking at the xml in the odt version there are lots of snippets like
this:

text:span text:style-name=Endnote_20_anchortext:span text:style-
name=T14 While the West tends to vilify OPEC as having too much power
and control over the worldapos;s oil reserves and prices, they forget
that OPEC was formed in response to the /text:span/text:span

It looks like there are stray Endnote style requests around chunks of
text, with an inner style too. It looks like in odt the inner style
wins, in .doc the outer one wins, but it is probably not quite that
simple.

My apologies for not being able to supply a smaller example of the
problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 903608] Re: [Upstream] LibreOffice text remains superscript if typed right after footnote

2012-05-18 Thread John Gill
This bug is causing serious problems.

My son is using libreoffice on Ubuntu for school work. The school
requires papers to be submitted in .doc format (yes, I know that sucks).

When he saves as .doc, text around the endnote references gets
arbitrarily converted to superscript.

Opening the .doc file and fixing everything up (by highligting the bogus
superscript text and turning off superscript) does not work, when the
file is saved the text gets turned back to superscript.

Looking at the odt file I am seeing things like this in the document:

text:span text:style-name=Endnote_20_anchortext:span text:style-
name=T14 While the West tends to vilify OPEC as having too much power
and control over the worldapos;s oil reserves and prices, they forget
that OPEC was formed in response to the /text:span/text:span

So what is happening is there are strap Endnote style tags around a
block of text. It looks like the in the .doc format the innermost style
wins, whereas in the .doc rendering the outermost wins.

oops -- that should read stray endnote tags around a block of text.
I suspect these get into the document when endnotes are added then
deleted, then text gets added back in.

Did I mention I hate wysiwig editors where you can't actually see all
the formatting that is going on?

  3) What is expected to happen in LibreOffice Writer importing a Word
  created file via the Terminal:

  cd ~/Desktop wget -c

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/903608/+attachment/2630995/+files/footnoteformattingbug_1.doc
  -O example.doc lowriter -nologo example.doc

on page 1 if one clicks immediately after superscript footnote 1 and
begins to type, the characters are not superscript, as it would occur
  in Word.

  4) What happens instead is the characters are superscript as shown in
  https://launchpadlibrarian.net/87353347/libreofficeformattingbug.ogv

WORKAROUND: Click immediately after the footnote and press
Ctrl+Shift+P then begin typing as desired. This is documented at:
  http://help.libreoffice.org/Writer/Making_Text_Superscript_or_Subscript

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 894773] [NEW] totem messes up dual screen setup

2011-11-25 Thread John Gill
Public bug reported:

I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 with an Nvidia Geforce 8600M GS graphics card.
I'm using the proprietary Nvidia driver 280.13

I'm running in Twinview mode, with a 1280x1024 flat panel and a 1280x800
laptop screen to the right.

When I start up totem it messes up this set up. I end up unable to get
to the bottom 2024 pixels on the flat panel and unable to move to the
laptop screen.

Firing up Nvidia settings daemon and disabling the flat panel, then re-
enabling usually solves the problem.

Note this problem is not new in 11.10, it has been there for several
releases.

** Affects: totem (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
