[Desktop-packages] [Bug 788626] Re: Error: Unable to save resume file: File name too long

Hey Robert. I'm also observing this same bug with an encrypted home
directory on Transmission 2.84 (14307) on Ubuntu 15.10 (amd64).

I'm trying to download a torrent (from
http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/48348) but I get the message:

"Error: Unable to save resume file: File name too long"

and I don't see that there is much I can do about that. It would be
nice if transmission dealt with the problem itself and made up a
shorter name for itself, as I have no idea how to shorten the name
  myself.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 512220] Re: cupsd crash Closing on unknown HTTP state 0

Title:
cupsd crash Closing on unknown HTTP state 0

Status in “cups” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: cups

I often get trouble with cupsd crashing and Apport saying the
  following:

  The problem cannot be reported:
The program crashed on an assertion failure, but the message could not be
retrieved. Apport does not support reporting these crashes.

I think the crash is due to my having a saved Firefox session with
Cups' administration window (http://localhost:631/admin) in it. The
crash seems to occur when this session is restored as part of the
session restore when I log in to my desktop environment.

I have turned on debug-logging and can see the following:
  D [25/Jan/2010:08:57:16 +0100] cupsdReadClient: 11 GET /images/cups-icon.png
HTTP/1.1
  D [25/Jan/2010:08:57:16 +0100] cupsdSetBusyState: Active clients
  D [25/Jan/2010:08:57:16 +0100] cupsdAuthorize: No authentication data
provided.
  D [25/Jan/2010:08:57:16 +0100] cupsdReadClient: 11 Closing on EOF
  D [25/Jan/2010:08:57:16 +0100] cupsdCloseClient: 11
  D [25/Jan/2010:08:57:16 +0100] cupsdSetBusyState: Not busy
  D [25/Jan/2010:08:57:16 +0100] cupsdWriteClient: 1354538648 Closing on
unknown HTTP state 0
  D [25/Jan/2010:08:57:16 +0100] cupsdCloseClient: 1354538648

  How to reproduce:
  0) Make sure you have session restore activated. Make sure your favorite
browser is set to restore the last session on reload.
  1) Load http://localhost:631/admin in your favorite browser.
  2) Restart your computer.
  3) Log in to your desktop environment.

Expected result: The CUPS administration window should be loaded in your
browser.
Actual result: The CUPS administration window fails to load. The browser
says: The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

It is not consistently reproducible, but I would say I see a failure
rate of 80 %. It happens on both of my test machines.

2013-05-17 Thread Kip Warner
I'm having the same problem. I'm using Evolution 3.6.4 under Ubuntu
Raring 13.04 (amd64).

If I watch a backup from GDB, this is what I observe:

process 30858 is executing new program: /usr/lib/evolution/3.6/evolution-backup

However, the backup is, as the OP reported, way too small.

$ du -hs evolution-backup-20130517.tar.gz

If I look inside the archive it generated, ignoring configuration files,
and just look at everything else. There's not much, if any, mail.

The process appears to be running as well:

Applications aren't able to use exo-open in Xubuntu with apparmor

  Test case (apparmor):
  sudo aa-enforce /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.firefox
  Launch firefox
  Download a file in Firefox
  Tools - Downloads
Right Click and open the downloaded file, should fail with the old version
and open with the new

  Test case (evince):
Open PDF with a link in it under Xubuntu
  Click the link
Should fail with the current versions of evince/apparmor and work with the
new versions

  -

  Regression potential:
minimal as this should just enable exo usage with apparmor profiles

Using a fresh install of Xubuntu 12.04 beta, I can not open links from
  within evince.

A red bar appears on top and says :
  Unable to open external link
Failed to execute child process exo-open (Permission denied)

I suppose this is due to a bad configuration of AppArmor.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 576059] Re: Gnome focus problem / hanging

2012-02-04 Thread Kip Warner
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 578040 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/578040

X181, I've been having exactly the same problem and it has been driving
me nuts. I'm using Maverick (amd64). I see this bug is marked as a
duplicate of #578040, but I question its relevance because I am using an
external keyboard nowhere near my touch pad.

X181, I wonder if it may have something to do with our peripherials? I
am using a Razer Lachesis mouse and a Razer Lycosa keyboard.

I did, however, find a workaround today. If you can break into a virtual
terminal or shell into the machine from elsewhere, kill gnome-settings-
daemon and then restart the process. Input focus is restored.

  - Keyboard input is on control, its not possible to enter text somewhere
  - Its possible to open desktop icons, etc with the mouse
  - Its not possible to move a window with the mouse
  - Its possible to close windows with the mouse
  - Its not possible to open gnome-panel items like menu, wlan, bluetooth, etc
  - Its not possible to switch windows with alt + tab
  - In the top gnope-panel there is alway a item marked (Applications, Places,

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 593599] Re: Disk Mounter shows shadowed mounts, while it shouldn't

  In Ubuntu 10.04, gnome-applets version 2.30.0-0ubuntu2.

If a GMount is shadowed, which can be checked with
g_mount_is_shadowed(), it shouldn't be shown in the Disk Mounter
  applet.

Currently, I've got a device that when connected, it's shown twice in
the Disk Mounter. gvfs-mount -li shows 2 GMounts for the same mount,
but one of them is marked as shadowed, so it seems the Disk Mounter
  doesn't consider that.

Also, Disk Mounter crashes when unmounting that duplicated mount.

Title:
  firefox ignores browser.display.background_color

Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix
Status in “firefox-3.0” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
To avoid the glare of a full page of white, I prefer to set
browser.display.background_color by means of about:config. This
works fine with the Mozilla package, but does not work at all with the
Ubuntu package. Packages (Mozilla and Ubuntu Gutsy) are both
firefox-2.0.0.11. To reproduce: goto about:config; set filter to
background_color; right-click desired line and modify (I use
  #DCD1BA).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 688245] Re: clock-applet doesn't alert user of EDS version mismatch

2011-09-07 Thread Kip Warner
** Changed in: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
   Status: Expired = Confirmed

Title:
clock-applet doesn't alert user of EDS version mismatch

Status in “gnome-panel” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-panel

The clock-applet's calendar displays no events if gnome-panel was
built against a different version of EDS than installed when the API
breaks. It should probably display a user level notification of this
so users don't think their calendar is actually gone. Perhaps the
calendar GUI could be replaced with an icon of a question mark or
  broken link or something.

See the following for discussion with upstream:
