[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1838151] Re: Poor quality audio with modern Bluetooth headsets in HSP/HFP. Missing wide band speech support (Bluetooth A2DP codecs).

2023-04-13 Thread Konrad Materka
@Christian Mint is based on Ubuntu 22.04 which is from 2022 so uses old
pulse-audio.

> When I switch to A2DP I cannot use the headset mic.
This is expected, A2DP is one direction only.

> When I switch to HFP the sound in conversations is horrible.
pulse-audio is kind of abandoned and actively developed. There are some fixes
added but it seams that all effort goes to pipewire now. Give it a try.

Add repositories for latest version:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pipewire-debian/wireplumber-upstream
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pipewire-debian/pipewire-upstream

Follow instructions to install and enable pipewire. There are multiple guide on
the Internet, for example:
https://trendoceans.com/enable-pipewire-and-disable-pulseaudio-in-ubuntu/

Bug description:
Bluetooth HSP/HFP audio quality is poor on Ubuntu comparative to all
other major platforms (Windows, MacOS, ChromeOS, Android, iOS).

Modern Bluetooth headsets (such as the Bose QC series headphones, many
others) are capable of using HFP 1.6 with mSBC 16kHz audio encoding.
As it currently stands, Ubuntu defaults to only supporting HSP
headsets using 8kHz CVSD, and is incapable of supporting HFP 1.6 at
  this time.

The ChromiumOS team recently tackled this issue -
  https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=843048

Their efforts may assist in bringing this to Ubuntu, however it
appears that there are quite a lot of differences considering they
have developed their own audio server solution etc.

The Bluetooth Telephony Working Group published the HFP 1.6 spec in
  May 2011 -
  https://www.bluetooth.org/docman/handlers/downloaddoc.ashx?doc_id=238193

Patches have been proposed in the past for this issue to the kernel
  and PulseAudio:

  PulseAudio: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/245272/
  Kernel: https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-bluetooth/msg76982.html

It appears that the Chromium OS team applied the same kernel patch:

https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromiumos/third_party/kernel/+/77dd0cb94c1713a8a12f6e392955dfa64c430e54

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2008053] [NEW] Screen corruption and laggy mouse cursor in lower quarter of screen

2023-02-22 Thread Markus Konrad
Public bug reported:

After a software upgrade yesterday, I see screen glitches and a
"stumbling" mouse cursor whenever I move the mouse in the lower quarter
of my laptop screen. When I have connected an external display, the
external display doesn't show any issues, but the problem remains on the
laptop screen.

collect the necessary data. I hope it is attached here somewhere.)

how to do this downgrade? I am affected by this issue too and basically
my business is stopped now :(

Samsung printer can't print after 21.04 update

Status in cups package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hi,

Since 21.04 update, I can't print any document with my Samsung ML-1665
  laser printer.

When I send a 1 page PDF, the printer warms up, the job appears to be
successful, but no document is printed. A few minutes later, the
  printer prints this message :

"INTERNAL ERROR - Incomplete Session by time out
  POSITION : 0x46069 (286825)
  SYSTEM : h6fw_5.37/os_hook
  LINE : 1226
  VERSION : SPL 5.37 09-04-2009
  "

If I send the PDF to the printer twice in a row, the printer prints
  this message :

"INTERNAL ERROR - Incomplete Corrupted Data
  POSITION : 0x38f72 (20)
  SYSTEM : h6fw_5.37/xl_image
  LINE : 154
  VERSION : SPL 5.37 09-04-2009
  "

The problem happens with either Splix or Postscript-Samsung driver.

   Workaround ===
downgrade cups and libcups2 to version 2.3.3-3ubuntu1 (from Ubuntu 20.10
Groovy)

After these 2 package downgrade, all work as expected.

2020-08-25 Thread Konrad
It affects Intel integrated GPUs too.

You can downgrade libmutter package temporarily as a workaround:

sudo apt install libmutter-6-0=3.36.1-3ubuntu3 gir1.2-mutter-6=3.36.1-3ubuntu3
sudo apt-mark hold libmutter-6-0

Remember to unhold after fix comes out!

What fixed that bug for me was simply doing this:
apt-get install -f

apt-get upgrade
apt-get update

apply 'sudo' at the beginning of each command if necessary

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1278223] Re: Mouse Flickering after adding 3rd Monitor

2018-10-29 Thread Konrad
same here, when monitor is plugged in I mouse coursor is flickering on
host display, additionally sometimes sites do not work correctly when on
screen 2, coursor is flickering too (but much less).

When I've tried to apply solution from #108 after the reboot the second
monitor was not detected at all, I had to revert back my settings.

My issues is, after adding a 3rd monitor to Ubuntu 14.04, the mouse

  not 3.

  Monitor 1: 1440 x 900 - Laptop's Native Monitor

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1643282] Re: key-direction not respected on OVPN import

2018-02-16 Thread Bernd Konrad
Ran into this exact issue today myself, 2 years later

openvpn .conf file contains the line
"key-direction 1"

after importing the config file, the key-direction in the vpn profile in
the network manager is set to "none", resulting in timeouts when trying
to establish the connection.

Took me a while to find that...

2018-01-04 Thread Konrad Krawiec
I can confirm this bug on Ubuntu 18.04 (20180104). I checked the auto
log in option in the installer, but I still need to log in manually.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 405294] Re: A2DP Bluetooth audio skips terribly ["Skipping NNN us (= MMM bytes) in audio stream"]

2017-10-02 Thread Konrad Zapałowicz
Hey, let me chime in into the discussion.

First I'm terribly sorry to see that people are affected by this kind of issue.
I remember a similar one on Ubuntu Phone which we have finally tracked down to
the hardware side but were never able to fix completely.

Canonical as a company and we as a developers working on Ubuntu do actually care
about Bluetooth. Myself, Daniel and a few others formed an informal group that
meets regularly and strives to set the course for improvement. Believe me, we
would be delighted to see it working flawlessly because well... among other
reasons we also use Bluetooth devices on daily basis. However, sadly, it is not
that easy as the underlying technology itself is fairly complex and requires
both hardware, software and remote side to click in.

We are not searching for the white flag though :) this would be too easy.
Instead we plan our work in a way that we are able to take down issues and
gradually improve the overall experience. This is a step by step process where
we tackle problems one by one aiming for these that have the best chance to be
solved in order to deliver improvements with each cycle.

In this case the audio in under running, PulseAudio tries to catch up and this
is why you see skipped bytes messages. There might be multiple reasons for this
starting from PulseAudio (and it's Bluetooth modules), through bluez, system
load and such and ending on the hardware configuration itself. For example
hugely popular WiFi+BT combo chipsets are prone to such issues as Bluetooth and
WiFi have to compete for throughput.

If I were you I would start from reporting this issue to Pulse Audio developers
through their mailing list (perhaps also on bluez) and start working from there.
We do keep an eye on these so if there is something interesting coming up in the
discussions we will pick it up. We will also remember about this one and for an
upcoming bluez 5.47 testing we will include high-load tests to see if we can
even experience this issue (so far we did not) with the hardware we test with.
Does it make sense?

Hope that at some point in the near future we will learn enough about this one
so that we can fix it.

Hope this helps,
K

2017-04-03 Thread Konrad Zapałowicz
Hey, to everyone interested we are currently testing and reviewing an
improvement to PA that fixes problems with selecting A2DP mode for BT
headsets.

Right now it is being tested internally with good results for Sony
headsets, QC35 from Bose and BT speakers. Once it is in a silo/ppa I
will share this information for much wider testing. Then it will be
submitted as a SRU and will land in xenial.

Un-installing nvidia-304 gets me nouveau in lsmod, it finds the VGA

I just tried using "Additional Drivers" to switch to nvidia-304, but with
exactly the same result. Before I removed the package, I looked through the
system logs, and copied out that which looked relevant.
(I will attach the full file of log-excerpts that I created.)

  What seemed most important were:
"nvidia: module verification failed: signature and/or required key missing -
tainting kernel"
"(EE) NVIDIA: Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module."
"(EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (module-specific error, 0)"

Can anyone say why nvidia-304 appears to install, but never makes it into the
kernel, and how I can fix this situation?

[Also, I know that it may not be nvidia-304's

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1634802] Re: Could not insert module

2016-11-04 Thread Konrad
I've found a hack that will enable nvidia module to insert into kernel:

Uncomment this line:
#PATCH[1]="buildfix_kernel_4.3.patch"

in file /usr/src/nvidia-304-304.132/dkms.conf
then sudo dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-304

In Ubuntu 16.04 it was uncommented, because there were some mtrr changes
in 4.3.0 kernel. This patch works for 4.8.0 kernel also.

Module works, but something is wrong with acceleration, because Unity is
not working. This should throw some light on it:

$ glxgears
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 155 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 3 (X_GLXCreateContext)
  Value in failed request: 0x0
Serial number of failed request: 30
Current serial number in output stream: 31

but running as sudo works

$ sudo glxgears
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
303 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.420 FPS
300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.928 FPS

I'm currently using gnome-session-flashback with metacity.

Could not insert module Unknown symbol in module

  and:

nvidia: Unknown symbol mtrr_del (err 0)
nvidia: Unknown symbol mtrr_add (err 0)

It looks like the buildfix_kernel_4.3.patch, which is supposed to be
dealing with those calls, is not applied in this release of the
  package.

The package was working fine with the previous fully updated Ubuntu
version 16.04 prior to the upgrade to 16.10.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1543179] Re: Audio does not get routed to BT headset/speaker

2016-08-30 Thread Konrad Zapałowicz
When tested with a2dp music such as mp3 playback the following scenario
works as expected, i.e. the audio is transferred to the correct output:

connect BT headset
play music
disable BT (audio is transferred to the phone and paused)
enable BT (playing audio is transferred to the headset that connects
automatically)
On the other hand, the same steps fail to produce any audio in step 4 [through
both phone speakers and headset] if it is call audio instead of a2dp.

Perhaps ofono is breaking the way the streams are set up for subsequent
connections.

2016-05-17 Thread Konrad Zapałowicz
This is reported against an old version of Ubuntu and many things has
changed since then. Because of that we won't fix this issue however if
this behavior repeats on a modern version please fill a bug report
against it and we will take it from there.

Bug description:
I have an android phone (2.3.6) and a DELL E6500 running kubuntu
  precise.

The phone has been paired to the computer in order to use bluetooth
for internet access (as I prefer this to the wifi hotspot to do
  tethering).

Unfortunately, at this point, whenever the phone is close to the
computer, the two autoconnect for audio transfer and it gets hard to
use the phone, as the audio is routed to the computer (that
incidentally does not seem able to propagate it to its speakers and
  microphone).

Is there some way to prevent PC with bluez to announce itself as a
headset or audio device and autoconnect for this?

I get this error and I guess bt stands for bluetooth. I don't have

Beside the error message I get a very short something out of my

  WORKAROUND:

Remove bluetooth alsa completely, if you don't need bluetooth.

  sudo apt-get purge bluez-alsa

Hey Alok,

thanks for your report and we will look into this one soon. In the
meantime would you be so kind and collect syslog for us with the
Bluetooth and Pulseaudio logging enabled. For the details on how to do
this check the "Generating log files with debugging information" section

The further test have concluded that the line

1. [pulseaudio] sink-input.c: Successfully moved sink input 0 to
bluez_sink.68_76_4F_6C_31_E9.

is missing because module-switch-on-connect skips switching for default
sink

device, returning...
3. [pulseaudio] module-switch-on-connect.c: koza: not switching to default

and when that happens the line that produces the 1st optput is never
called.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1546310] Re: In CAR bluetooth not working

2016-03-02 Thread Konrad Zapałowicz
@Uranicus

Yes, citrain device-upgrade is the command you should run.
The 'pin' in this case is the code that you use to unlock the screen
which also happens to be a user password. The citrain needs it for sudo.
The 'silo' is 47 for this fix.

Best,
Konrad

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1494225] Re: Call audio is not routed to headset with HFP

2016-03-02 Thread Konrad Zapałowicz
I confirm this with krillin running rc-proposed from 27th of Feb with
silo 47 [pulseaudio fix].

During the call audio in not in the headset however it is possible to
transfer it between the phone [works ok] and back through the Bluetooth
[silence]. Will capture and attach logs later today.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1428328] Re: nvidia-prime needs sddm support

2015-03-31 Thread Konrad Materka
Aaron Honeycutt, sierdzio - this is differnt bug, you need nomodeset option
in kernel options.
As a workaround in grub press e and add nomodeset in the line when splash
is. Then hit F10 to boot - should work.
You can add this option in /etc/default/grub to make it default.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1256511] Re: Sounds settings lost after reboot

2014-03-06 Thread Konrad Ludwig
I have a similar problem. I found this thread while trying to find out
why pulseaudio isn't saving my settings on boot.

When I start Xubuntu my Built-in Audio profile defaults to Analog
Stereo Duplex and I have to manually set it to Digital Stereo
(IEC958) Output. I don't use HDMI or analog, and both of these ports
are unplugged. The only sound device plugged into or attached to my
computer is the digital out.

When I reboot my system or restart pulse-audio, all of my pulseaudio
settings are lost and I have to manually change the profile again.

I tried editing /etc/pulse/default.pa and selecting my default sink to
alsa_output.pci-_00_1b.0.iec958-stereo. When I restart pulseaudio
using that configuration, pactl list short sinks no longer lists the
appropriate sink, and pulseaudio defaults back to Analog Stereo Duplex
(aka: alsa_output.pci-_00_1b.0.analog-stereo).

Title:
  Sounds settings lost after reboot

Status in PulseAudio sound server:
  Confirmed
Status in “pulseaudio” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I recently upgraded from Xubuntu 13.04 to 13:10 (64-bit), and since
then I have no sound when I start my PC, because it's being sent to
the HDMI output (my TV). I want it to go to the Analogue output (my
PC) like it used to on 13.04. I can change it using the pulse-audio
Volume Control program, but my settings are lost after I reboot.

The pulse-audio Volume Control doesn't have my Analogue Output as a
valid option in the Output Devices tab; it appears only after I select
Analogue Stereo within the Configuration tab. I then choose it as my
fallback device (which I think means default device?), but my
changes are not saved between reboots.

After changing the output device to Analogue Stereo using the
Configuration tab, I then have to change the output of the individual
program using the Playback tab, since it uses the current default
  (HDMI).

I've tried setting my default audio device using pacmd, but it hasn't
helped: my Analogue device does show up as the active sink when I run
pacmd list-sinks, but it's not the selected device within the Volume
Control (in the Configuration tab) so I don't get any sound unless I
manually change it using the GUI.

Here's the output of some pactl commands after I start my PC - note
that the Analog Stereo source is missing:

  $ pactl list sources short
  0 alsa_input.usb-046d_08b2-01-U0x46d0x8b2.analog-mono module-alsa-card.c
s16le 1ch 44100Hz SUSPENDED
  1 alsa_output.pci-_00_1b.0.hdmi-stereo.monitormodule-alsa-card.c
s16le 2ch 44100Hz SUSPENDED

  $ pactl list sinks short
  0 alsa_output.pci-_00_1b.0.hdmi-stereomodule-alsa-card.c s16le 2ch
44100Hz SUSPENDED

After I open the pulse-audio Volume Control and select the Analog
Stereo item from the Configuration tab, running the same commands
  again gives:

  $ pactl list sources short
  0 alsa_input.usb-046d_08b2-01-U0x46d0x8b2.analog-mono module-alsa-card.c
s16le 1ch 44100Hz IDLE
  1 alsa_output.pci-_00_1b.0.hdmi-stereo.monitormodule-alsa-card.c
s16le 2ch 44100Hz IDLE
  2 alsa_output.pci-_00_1b.0.analog-stereo.monitor module-alsa-card.c
s16le 2ch 44100Hz IDLE

  $ pactl list sinks short
  0 alsa_output.pci-_00_1b.0.hdmi-stereomodule-alsa-card.c s16le 2ch
44100Hz IDLE
  1 alsa_output.pci-_00_1b.0.analog-stereo module-alsa-card.c s16le 2ch
44100Hz IDLE

The Analogue Stereo source is present and I can hear sound through my
PC's speakers. But when I reboot my PC these settings are lost, and I
have to do this over again. I wouldn't mind so much if I could fix
this from the command line, but I haven't found a way to do that.

I'm not 100% certain this is a pulseaudio bug - that's just my best
  guess.

  Thanks.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1249265] Re: foomatic fails printing from Windows Client using Word

2013-11-08 Thread Konrad Hofer
Followed instructions above, but did not get a problem printing. Maybe
because I used libreoffice instead of MS Word.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1085310]

2013-01-28 Thread Konrad-bernloehr
I can confirm the behaviour reported on x86_64 and x86 versions of
Mageia and Mandriva, with different LibreOffice versions up to 4.0 pre-releases,
under different desktops (xfce and lxde):
a) With the option
   LibreOffice = General - Open/Save dialogs - [X] Use LibreOffice dialogs
activated, new paths are added as expected.
b) With that option de-activated, all attempts to add new template, gallery etc.
paths end in the HOME directory being added. Replacing the new $(home) entry
in the corresponding .xcu file manually does not seem to have any effect.
c) Uninstalling a libreoffice-gnome package, where it exists, removes the
option mentioned above entirely and results in a working configuration.
   On Mageia (Cauldron), there is no libreoffice-gnome package though;
the relevant files are part of libreoffice-core and cannot be de-installed.
d) Apache OpenOffice 3.4.1 has the same behaviour; so this bug probably goes
back to common ancestors and is not at all new.

Title:
LibreOffice paths dialog always sets /home/user

Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite:
  Confirmed
Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
In the LibreOffice Tools→Options→LibreOffice→Paths dialog the
following occurs. Select Templates , then select Edit… Select Add… and
add a path which is not the home directory. The path added is
/home/user, irrespective of the path selected.

This appears to be an instance of upstream bug
  https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=55323, which
describes the same behaviour *when the LibreOffice dialogs are not
used* (See comment 6 …I just found out that this bug only occurs if I
don't use the LibreOffice dialogs for opening and saving files….

The impact is that there appears to be no way of setting any path to
anything other than the installation defaults.

Ubuntu is 12.10, LibreOffice is Version 3.6.2.2 (Build ID:
  360m1(Build:2)), desktop is gnome-session-fallback 3.6.0-0ubuntu1

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1060310] [NEW] Unable to create folder for files being extracted from archive

2012-10-02 Thread Konrad Świat
Public bug reported:

If you try to create a folder for files you need to extract into folder
that is modified by downloading something, field where you type a name
for new folder quickly disappears, folder is not created. Archive type
does not matter.

This does not occur, when folder is modified by extracting something
else into it.

1. extracting archive.rar into new_folder you try to create in for
example /home/ttt/Downloads/, while downloading sth.yyy into
/home/ttt/Downloads/ - unable to create new_folder

2. extracting archive.rar into new_folder you try to create in
/home/ttt/Downloads/, while extracting something else into
/home/ttt/Downloads/ - able to create new_folder

Title:
Unable to create folder for files being extracted from archive

Status in “file-roller” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
If you try to create a folder for files you need to extract, into
folder that is modified by downloading something, field where you type
a name for new folder quickly disappears, folder is not created.
  Archive type does not matter.

This does not occur, when folder is modified by extracting something
  else into it.

  1. extracting archive.rar into new_folder you try to create in for
example /home/ttt/Downloads/, while downloading sth.yyy into
  /home/ttt/Downloads/ - UNABLE to create new_folder

  2. extracting archive.rar into new_folder you try to create in
/home/ttt/Downloads/, while extracting something else into
  /home/ttt/Downloads/ - ABLE to create new_folder

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: evince

On my workstation (10.65.4.190), my $(HOME) is mounted from an nfs
server (10.65.21.2) and for some reason apparmor denies evince-
thumbnailer to do its work. This causes _long_ delays blocking the
complete desktop for many minutes every now and then:

This is on maverick, but also on oneiric
