[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1961523] [NEW] Removable media is separarted from nautilus
Public bug reported: Upon opening inserted USB stick with nautilis using notification window or directly in nautilus window the dot in the dock appears next to the USB stick icon and not the file manager icon. This is different from default GNOME behaviour that displays the dot next to the file manager icon regardless of the location opened. For one thing, to have a dot next to USB device is good in terms that it indicates clearly that the device is mounted. On the other hand, this is very confusing as the dot jumps from file manager icon to the USB stick icon in the dock back and forth simply by changing location in the same nautilus window. The very first time that happened I just lost my nautilus window with the USB stick location opened and could not find it until I hit the Super key to call the Activities menu. It took me a while to figure out that my nautilus window had been detached from file manager and re-attached to the USB stick icon in the dock. Since it is the nautilus process owning the removable media, and the window the user interacts with belongs to nautilus app, I would expect the dock to comply with the GNOME behaviour and to display the dots corresponding to nautilus windows next to the file manager icon, and not jump them around. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1961452] [NEW] [Wayland] Super + nubmer doesn't switch windows
Public bug reported: In Wayland session using Super+ number key does not switch to the window if the app is not pinned to the dock. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1568410] Re: Double-clicking .desktop file makes nautilus show bogus file
Thank you Sebastien for pointing this out. My understanding is that as of now the old version of nautilus is paired with new GNOME desktop, making this bug specific to Ubuntu. There is no problem with native GNOME desktop or the Ubuntu 14.04 so I am not sure what upstream is supposed to work on. I'm afraid that mixing GNOME software is specific to Ubuntu, and the bug is the result of that integration. Correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, the upstream bug report follows: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=764891 Thank you for your time an co-operation. And, is there a way to integrate the two bug report systems I wonder so that to make it a sort of "Report to Bugzilla" button for Launchpad bugs? ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #764891 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=764891 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1568410 Title: Double-clicking .desktop file makes nautilus show bogus file Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: When double-clicking a .desktop file in nautilus, bogus file briefly appear and the original .desktop file "jerks" because of that. The file briefly appears, marked as no read/write access (the little lock and cross icons attached). I could not catch it with screen capture to see what it was but you could see it for yourself. I believe that this is a temp file. To verify, follow the steps below. 1. Make sure nautilus is configured to hide hidden files and that you can reproduce the bug as has been described to this point 2. In Nautilus, .ts files are always mapped to text/vnd.trolltech.linguist file(1) command reports them as either FoxPro FPT or data files Nevertheless those .ts files are being played correctly when dropped into Totem window. Program description .dvr files are mapped to video/mpeg in Nautilus, while file(1) command reports them as MPEG sequence, v2, program multiplex. The only exception is info.dvr file not specific to any program and used by the TV set, which is mapped correctly to application /octet-stream in Nautilus and is reported as data by file(1) command. Attached are the samples of the problematic files recorded by the TV set. ** Affects: shared-mime-info (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: 234.dvr https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1487859/+attachment/4451219/+files/234.dvr -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to shared-mime-info in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1487859 Title: MPEG4 .ts files are recognized as text/vnd.trolltech.linguist and .dvr files as video/mpeg Status in shared-mime-info package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I record DVBT2 TV shows as a set of two files, one is the .ts MPEG4 transport stream and the other is .dvr binary file containing EPG program description. Thank you Lars for your prompt reply! This fixes the issue for me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1314967 Title: Thunderbird entry persist in indicator-messages menu with no email account configured Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: On Thunderbird startup the Thunderbird menu entry was created within indicator-messages notification envelop even though I had closed the Thunderbird application right off without configuring any email accounts. It turned out that thunderbird had created a new user regardless so I went off and removed the entire ~/.thunderbird directory as well as ~/.cache/thunderbird and restarted the indicator- messages-service. The thunderbird entry still persist in the menu with no apparent way to remove it from there. Logging off and back on does not help. I conclude that this must be a bug displaying the menu entry for application that is not being set up. In particular, there should be no Thunderbird entry in the indicator-messages menu provided there is no ~/.thunderbird/thunderbird_user directory exists. At the very minimum there should be a per user configuration file to alter the menu entries manually. And perhaps right clickable menu entries to choose an action. At least some way to remove entries that should not be there. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1295526] Re: disable touchpad while typing doesn't work
Actually, neither starting syndaemon via rc.local nor enabling SHMconfig in xorg.conf helped. The only way to disable touchpad while typing was to start syndaemon from a graphic session as a user. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1019340] Re: GPU Lockup. Xorg? nouveau?
I've got the same graphics card, and am getting GPU lockups whenever 3D is involved (Unity desktop). Screen glitches while logging in for once. Internal error reports on launching Software Centre or Printers settings menu. Bringing up the Dash breaks it to the point where I have to re- login. Launching LibreOffice causes graphics distortion, windows go blank, including other open apps, global menu disappearing and so forth. This is in 12.10 64-bit Ubuntu. Never had a chance to test it in 12.04 as Nvidia proprietary driver was offered by default. On a side note, I can see that Xorg is not properly configured, as it tries to load nvidia module first, then nv module, and finally falls back to nouveau module as the other two are not available. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1019340 Title: GPU Lockup. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 816669] Re: encrypted-home support in new user dialog
The problem still exisy in Precise. I'd say don't bother with swap encryption and hybernation related issues, as it is way too complicated. After all, what we do here is create a new user and it's home directory if required. There is no need to look beyond this, and any provisions beyond user home encryption are inappropriate and are not expected, really. All we need is normal gnome-system-tools functionality. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/816669 Title: encrypted-home support in new user dialog Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “gnome-control-center” source package in Precise: Triaged Bug description: seb128 asked me to file this bug... He noticed that the Gnome3 new user dialog does not support the encrypt-home-directory feature that was present in previous versions of Gnome. To solve this, the new user dialog would have a boolean checkbox (defaulted to un-checked), which asks if this new user's home directory should be created. Talk to mpt about the wordsmithing. If checked, then you need to add --encrypt-home to the 'adduser' invocation. Before running adduser, you'd also need to ensure that ecryptfs-utils is installed. For real security, you would also need to run (as root) ecryptfs- setup-swap, which would encrypt the user's swap space. This is necessary, as any files/data that gets swapped out to disk could be written in the clear, thereby circumventing the user's requested encryption. Further note that if swap is encrypted, hibernation should be disabled (suspend continues to work just fine). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 921145] [NEW] Brasero: no way to change default destination when creating disk image
Public bug reported: When burning a project to an image file on disk, there is no way to change default destination path. It is always set to $HOME/brasero.iso for data project, $HOME/brasero.cue for audio project etc. There simply may be no room under user home directory or the user may prefer to change the default destination path for one reason or another. It is pretty standard for an application to allow the user to choose destination for the resulting output. The same applies to the working temporary directory which defaults to /tmp. I do not have enough room in /tmp which is mounted as tmpfs on my system, and have no good reason to grow its size. Scroll down to any page containing commands to be entered into the terminal on the command line. Any text after the command prompt is invisible. For instance, at the bottom of page 58 the fdisk command does not appear after the # (root prompt) on the command line. swaponcommand cannot be seen at the bottom of page 62 and so forth.
