[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1839136] Re: Temporary freeze / delay with some dialog windows

2019-08-23 Thread Logix
This bug happened to me for months, I think even in previous Ubuntu
releases. But recently it stopped happening, I'm not sure what caused it
and what fixed it... but for the last few days the bug is not present
any more, so I'll mark it as fixed.

** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Fix Released

Title:
Temporary freeze / delay with some dialog windows

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Some dialog popups take a while to open, as if the system froze for a
bit (even though journalctl -f doesn't show anything related) which is
  extremely annoying. Example:

  - the dialog shown if a file should be saved when trying to close a tab in
Gedit
  - the popup confirmation dialog when using Shift + Delete in Nautilus
  - the dialog shown when trying to close a terminal that has a running process

This does not happen every time, but I'm not sure what triggers it.

I made a video showcasing the issue: https://streamable.com/xqjlf The
first time I try to close a Gedit unsaved tab this issue happens, but
the second time it does not happen.

What I tried and did not solve this issue:
  - using modal or detached dialogs
  - disabling all Gnome Shell extensions (including those that ship with Ubuntu
by default, by removing the packages)

This seems related to using multiple monitors. I have two monitors,
one using 2560x1080 resolution, and the other 1920x1080 (both with the
default 100% scale). When I mirrored the displays, this issue no
longer happened. It only happens with extended (using the "Join
  Displays" option) display.

To replicate, just click (focus) on other windows multiple times (on
both monitors), then go to the window that causes these issues and it
  should happen, like I explained.

  Notifications do not disappear

Status in GNOME Shell:
  Incomplete
Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I frequently have notifications that do not disappear after being
shown. This is particularly prevalent with power management
notifications. Most of the time when I wake my computer from suspend,
I see the following notification at the top: "Automatic suspend -
Computer will suspend very soon because of inactivity." that never
goes away. Presumably, this was shown before my computer went to
sleep, and should have disappeared but didn't. I have to either click
on the notification, or click on the time to open the notification
menu to get it to disappear. Occasionally, the same behaviour occurs
  with other, random notifications.

This is a long-standing issue for me, that I'm just now getting around
  to reporting. I'm on 17.10, gnome-shell 3.26.2-0ubuntu0.1, and
running the gnome-session (not Ubuntu). I don't know if the issue is
present on Gnome 3.28, but plan to find out once 18.04 final is
  released.
